Ken is the Miele Whisperer! So personable and just a joy to work with. My 17 year old Miele washing machine mysteriously filled with a bit of water overnight while sprinklers ran. Ken replaced the intake valves. Voila! Works like a charm. Spins the clothes so dry now. Dryer takes half the time now. Ken is a wizard. She arranged an appointment, and had Ken call me back so that he would know exactly what he was dealing with, and hopefully make sure he had the correct part. Ken showed up on time. My Miele dishwasher began having drain faults. It's still within warranty, so I called Miele, who assigned my repair order to Acclaim Appliance. Acclaim never reached out to schedule the appointment. I also called several times with no answer and no call back. More than a week later I finally called Miele back, who told me the service order had been cancelled by Acclaim (and neither Miele nor Acclaim felt the need to let me know). read more

Ken from Acclaim Appliance is amazing! Our 15 year old Miele clothes washer had recently had its shock absorbers changed by a Miele technician (not Ken) but it was still making strange noises. Ken not only fixed our clothes washer, but took a look at our 15 year old Miele dishwasher, too (which had been declared "unfixable" by another Miele technician). Miele dishwasher is again not working. I called and Ken was able to get the part and fix it. He also spent time to again stabilized the dishwasher as I have euro made cabinets with tile floor and it just was not installed correctly originally. Also he fixed my Sears nepton washing machine. Acclaim services Miele! Its is a one man show (Ken), but I had the most pleasant experience ever with appliance repair. I called Miele when my dishwasher stopped completing cycles, and heating water... (I'd had a random appliance repairman come previously and been unable to fix it.). Miele referred me to Acclaim and Ken, who clearly has a lot of Miele experience. He came the next day, listened to the cycle for a bit, and then whipped out a computer. Ken read off the error codes, and made some needed software changes to adjust water levels and what have you, as well as adjust my drainage to solve a related plumbing problem. Genius! He knew just what to do, was super polite, totally honest, and the machine has run like new since he left... charge was modest for the expertise he brought to the table, $190. Ken clearly has a gift for the work he does. I'd trust him to work on anything! read more

This is a five-star review on Ken Preston from Acclaim Appliance & Home Repair in San Mateo. We have a seventeen-year old Miele washer and dryer all built in into the decorum of our compete kitchen. A week ago, two plastic clips holding the glass bowl on to the customized door broke. We now know that the shock absorbers were totally gone, hence the severe shaking breaking the clips. We called Miele USA, sent an e-mail to Miele Headquarters in Germany, contacted an international parts company in the UK, searched e-Bay and finally went to a reputable seller of appliances in the local area. Every time we were told that these very expensive machines were obsolete, and therefore the parts were obsolete as well. This has made me realize how wasteful this all is as "intended" obsolescence causes millions of households all over the world to replace their home equipment in general within a ten-year period. If we truly want to attack climate change, the manufacturers of all this equipment need to change their goals: sustainability versus constant steep revenue growth. As a result, we ordered a new Bosch washer and dryer. Even though the Bosch machines are excellent, I was heartbroken, because the Miele machines were built in and had customized doors. I love my kitchen. On Sunday-evening we had pizza with wonderful friends, who told us that they always call Ken from Acclaim Appliance and he has fixed all their Miele kitchen equipment. I called on Monday, and Ken returned my call within one hour. He understood our situation and told us that he was sure he was able to repair the washer, since he did have the specific clips. He also told us that he ordered three more clips from a Miele warehouse in New Jersey, which meant the parts were not yet obsolete. On Tuesday, only one day later, Ken arrived at 4:45 P.M. and by 6:00 P.M. he had replaced the clips, installed new shock absorbers, checked the rest of the washer, made sure everything worked and was done. Is anyone surprised that, in addition to the very reasonable invoice, we gave him a financial gift to take his wife (who handles the phones and appointments) out for a nice dinner, a good bottle of red wine, and a healthy tomato plant. This man is a wizard. He is magic. And, most of all he is extremely knowledgable about Miele equipment and he deeply cares for his customers. I would give him ten stars, if that were possible. So glad I found Acclaim Appliance to service my ancient European washing machine. I checked the manufacturers website for authorized service vendors and cross-checked those with Yelp...and called Acclaim. They actually called me back promptly (how often does that happen?). It did take a short while to order parts (this is a very old machine-- parts available only by mail) . As soon as the parts arrived, they called and scheduled the repair service for the next morning. Ken also recommended that I replace some parts that were clearly defective but still operable, and the whole service was extremely reasonable. Everything was done on-time and under the estimate! (Again: how often does that happen?) Since I believe that good repair and service is the greenest way (instead of just replacing at the first problem) Acclaim Appliance Repair is now on speed-dial. I could not be happier with Ken at Acclaim Appliance Service! I would give him more stars if I could. We have used his services twice. The first service was routine, but the second could be described as "above and beyond the call of duty". Our refrigerator had a noisy fan, so we had scheduled a service. Ken had to order the part, so his visit was delayed a few days. Little did we know that before his visit, our stove would go out, too. So when he arrived, we had no refrigeration or cooking capabilty. Thankfully, our neighbors were able to store the contents of the freezer. Ken was able to fix the stove, which was a very complicated diagnosis. I have lived in San Francisco for 20 years and endured all manner of appliance service, including a service person pulling out my stove onto my newlly refinished hardwood floor and putting a big scratch in the floor. In my experience, KEN IS THE BEST. I won't go into the details of how he diagnosed and fixed the problem with the stove, but my wife and I agree that if we had called another service person, we likely would have ended up purchasing a new stove. read more
