    My SHINY BOOTS
    Tiffany K.

Jay is the KINDEST, most generous, absolutely genuine man you will ever have the pleasure of needing repair services from. He has such a huge heart which is totally matched by his skill. I thrifted these boots which were in serious need of repair and Jay put on new heels, replaced the inner sole, and also gave the boots a stellar shine!!! He even painted the heels bc there was damage to one of them. I picked up and dropped off in 3 days!!! The best part was that I got to meet such a hard-working small-business owner, what a wonderful neighbor!!!! Really feeling love for Burlingame!!! Thank you so much Jay!!

    Boots

Every time I come into the shop, Jay is friendly, knowledgeable, and quality of service always exceeds expectations. He has cleaned leather coats, refitted boot shafts, and repaired purse straps for me. In the photo attached, he changed the boots from 15.5 inch shaft straight across to 13.5 inch shaft with a slit in the front (to allow for my large calves) per my request. He also has cleaned my wool coats with leather trim. Great work and I'm always happy to come visit him for my needs and trust that he will do an amazing job!

Brought in my bag to have an issue w/the zipper teeth separating fixed - was told it was fixed, charged $35 - this happened one day later.

TLDR: Do NOT bring your items here! If I could give zero stars, I would. I brought a bag which was having zipper issues (teeth would separate even when zipped, so the bag was always open) to the shop. Jay explained the issue was with the metal zipper and said they could either lubricate the zips or replace the zipper. After trying the lubrication and finding it didn't work, I opted to replace the zipper. They said they would call once ready the following week. A week passed and I received no call from them. I called multiple times, but was not able to get through. I finally just went to the shop to check in (after a week), only to be told the zipper couldn't be replaced after all, but they had fixed the issue and charged $35, despite initially saying it would be $25. That turned out to be a complete lie - the FIRST time I went to zip the bag, the teeth separated, just as they were before. Terrible service, terrible quality "repairs."

    Messy glue

I have had a few things altered here and done perfectly. I spoke with them about restoring a LV bag and I had seen great reviews. It turned out to be a mess and my bag is ruined and LV can't restore now that someone else has. They painted the leather (not sure why) and glue all over the corners. I wouldn't take any luxury items here just to be safe. Edit: this was 4 years ago (put the bag away) and just took out and was compelled to review. Will find receipt but I won't be taking it back.

Off white color that ruined the shoe. Shiny snake skin shine is now gone. I didn't even ask for this part to be painted

Don't trust this place with your precious/valued belongings! I brought in a pair of expensive shoes and asked for two simple things. 1. Glue/Re-seal the soles and 2. Repaint the bottom as it was discolored due to old age. I specifically pointed to areas of the shoes where he should focus on and he immediately cut me off by saying "I don't like people telling me what to do, I'll fix it to my liking, and if I like it, I know you will like it too." I didn't think too much of it, but after I left my shoes with him, something inside me immediately regretted it. I should've trusted my gut because when I picked up my shoes, I realized that he did more than what was originally asked (in a BAD WAY). He painted the front with a totally different color ruining the original color of the shoe. He also painted/touched up parts of the shoe that had natural "snake skin" shine that he covered/dulled with paint. This destroyed the integrity of the classic shoe. The worst part was that he thought he was doing me a favor...He simply didn't listen to my instructions and ruined my shoes by doing more than what was originally requested. Furthermore, he charged an arm and a leg and took a whole week to return my shoes in worst condition. Lastly, I was not even called when my shoes were ready for pick up -- I had to call myself to find out it was ready. I suggest that you listen to your customer's specific request in the future and don't try to do more than what is asked to prevent future customer dissatisfaction and disappointment.

    Cool leggings.
    Bob K.

Made a great pair of leggings for a 12-year-old out of some spandex fabric that I brought back from NYC. Basically copied a pair she already had, but did a really nice job and got them done on time. Nice that he communicated through Yelp and super friendly and open about what he could and couldn't do. Would definitely trust him with any alterations.

Painted one sandal to match the other and it's a tricky color!

Look, I wanted to give this store 5 stars due to the technique and skill that Victor possesses. I do not doubt his skill AT ALL and am NOT at all trouncing him craftsmanship-wise. It's just, as a business, I felt the customer service end was very lacking, hence the 3 stars. He did a wonderful job repairing the pants and it is in much better condition than before, having him even explain how the prior shop used glue which is terrible for leather. I appreciate his explanations. He will give you a ticket with a number on it, with a agreed on price written on it that you need to pay him in CASH when you pick up (more on this later). It's the customer service and experience that needs work. He originally said when I first consulted with him and dropped off the pants on April 14, that it would take time and would be done in about 3 weeks or so. I was fine with it as I was going on vacation for awhile. When I returned, I dropped by May 19 to pick it up. He just shoos me away and says that it is not ready, give him 10 days. At that time, I noticed someone else picking up her shoes from him in front of me. Her ticket number was about 200+ after mine, meaning he potentially doesn't do the orders in consecutive order. I return on June 3, 15 days afterwards, and he still says it is not ready. I did see he just started as the zipper was finally off but nothing new was sewed on. 2 days later, he calls me saying it's finished. This means my order was delayed multiple times with other orders prioritized, taking nearly 2 months to finish compared to the original promised time. Therefore, if you need an order soon, you probably need to reiterate it to him many times. Now the cash part. I did not mind it was cash or check only. However, MAKE SURE YOU BRING NEW BILLS. I had an older printed $100 that I used to pay. He has this "bill reading machine" that I'm not super clear what it is that he inserts bills into that tells him if they are real or fake. My $20s read fine but then my $100 read fake. He shouts at me "Hey, this is fake!" in a pretty rude tone. I asked him to re-read it a couple times but he insisted it was fake. Therefore, I ended up having to wait till the following week with a brand new $100, which read fine. The catch was, I deposited the $100 in a bank and the teller checked, proving it was real. My issue is not that he doesn't accept the old $100, it's more of his attitude towards the situation, which given the delay from an overpromised return multiple times, already compounded my frustration. TL;DR - Overall, Victor does excellent work just like other reviewers have said. I sincerely think his customer service demeanor can use some work, as well as having a better way in organizing his schedule or deadlines, perhaps even capping his workload, so that he does not overestimate the time he has to finish projects. Overpromising return days are also something that can be problematic. Otherwise, I do thank him for the excellent craftsmanship. Cash or check only.
