Though no fault of their own accucare was unable to get a clearance from the medical examiner to cremate my mother. I called after 2 weeks of her being there and not cremated. Kristin and Israel went above and Beyond Making calls and great efforts to determine what the hold up was. After many attempts on their and ours it was finally determined that hospice had neglected to notify the medical examiners of her death. Every single time I inquired they showed great concern and sympathy for me. When it was finally straightened out they rushed her cremation for me and returned her ashes with in days. Plus when we went to pick up her ashes they gave me at no cost a beautiful cedar box to carry them in . They said this was to help me since we had gone through so much ! This was never their fault yet they offered constant help and support and sympathy. Horrible horrible experience. They couldn't get the information on the death certificate correct after 3 attempts - which delayed cremation significantly. Then they FAILED to notify me of the cremation date although I specifically asked to be notified. I called for an update and they said, "oops! Our bad. We cremated your dad two days ago." I asked them to "make it right" and give me some of my money back at a minimum. They refused. My family and I missed the opportunity to be "with" my dad emotionally and mentally when he was being cremated -- something we will NEVER get back. BEWARE BEWARE! Spend a little more money and get a better, more caring, more careful, more respectful experience for your loved one. This was a nightmare and they didn't care to do anything to compensate for their mistake. read more

Was referred to Accu-Care by a local hospice where my Dad passed away. Not knowing any other funeral home or cremation facility, I agreed to use Accu-Care based on the hospice recommendation. My father was cremated late July 2021, and I purchased a TSA approved container from Accu-Care to fly with the ashes back to Connecticut after I received the death certificate, which took a month. At 3:00 am in a hotel room in Connecticut, 3500 miles away, to my shock and absolute disgust, I opened the container I assumed contained my Dads ashes to transfer to a permanent urn, and discovered another persons paperwork in with the ashes. I can not explain the sickening feeling, and shock and horror when I realized I had no idea who's ashes I was looking at. There was a sticker with my fathers name on top of the travel container, and two stickers or papers with someone elses name inside the container with the ashes. I called Accu-Care and spoke to the 'manager' , Mark Jordan, who was completely UNAPOLOGETIC, unprofessional, almost zombie-like, and seemed unconcerned and not even overly surprised. I do not understand WHY - when ashes of someones loved one - are being given back to a customer, they are not double and triple checked. Is there ANY MORE IMPORTANT JOB than making sure a loved ones ashes are not 'mixed up' with someone elses??? And given to the wrong person??? Obviously someone (or several people) completely dropped the ball on this. Judging from Mark Jordans cavalier attitude, as well as the initial conversation with the receptionist when I explained what had transpired, I get the impression this is not the first time there has been a "mix up" like this. There was no element of surprise or any sense of urgency whatsoever in the receptionists voice when I explained I was given one set of ashes and two sets of paperwork that state "these are the certified cremains of XXX" with two different names. (see pictures attached) The office itself is very small, low budget, and looks almost like a temporary or pop-up office, and the two times I have been there, there were at most 3 employees in the place total, and no other customers. Yet when I called and asked for the manager of that location, and explained why I needed to talk to him, I was then told he was 'in meetings' and 'in and out of meetings all day' and just given a runaround. Go figure. I will be filing a formal complaint with the State Board of Consumer Affairs and I suggest anyone looking for cremation services for their loved one stay FAR away from this sh*t show. I attempted to attach pictures of the sticker that was on the outside of my Dads cremation container, along with pictures of the stickers that accompanied the cremains inside the container but was told due to 'privacy concerns' they needed to be removed. Mark Jordan claims I "definitely" have the correct ashes and mix ups just don't happen there. You can judge for yourself. read more

I never would have imagined being treated so coldly after the passing of my mother. I was spoken to rudely by Kristen DeLima multiple times, never once did she show compassion. My friend who was with me when she spoke to me on the phone was appalled. A sorry for your loss or anything caring would have been nice, but nope, not from Kristen. I would have given them zero stars if that was an option. She didn't understand my situation, nor did she care. It was all about the money. After letting my dead mother lay in their facility since her passing on November 22, 2023. she should not be talking to the grieving public! I contacted accu-care for cremation on recommendation from a hospice nurse and spoke with lance. He was very helpful and kind on the phone, in emails and in person when I came in to make arrangements for my father. But when I came back to pick up my dad's ashes (a very sensitive moment), the woman who did the final paperwork at reception was merely transactional and cold. She had just finished with a couple ahead of me in reception and I could here say the body was tracked through the process and say "sorry for your loss" so I'm not sure why she was cool and disinterested with me but of all times to be that way with someone, this is not one of them. read more

Accu-care was pretty helpful when we called after hours on the Friday before Memorial day when my dad passed. They were the last people that I ever wanted to talk to in a moment of grief, but it was quick and painless. I went to pick my dad's ashes up this afternoon and there were two people in the office. It took about 8 minutes before anyone acknowledged that I was in the building as I paced up and down the halls, waiting. The lady appeared to be on hold as she did not talk but the phone was in her hand. As I gazed through the door at her she never looked up or acknowledged me. She knew that I was waiting but she did her best zombie impersonation with blank eyes. You get what you pay for at Accucare, and you are not paying for or getting good customer service and the price can not be beat. read more

Accucare was referred to us through local hospice as well as the series of many phone calls to other locations after my father's passing. He passed just before Thanksgiving and we had to make many calls to find a timely funeral home to accommodate his service and transport his remains. Most funeral homes were booked out three weeks, and it was not possible to refrigerate my father's remains for that long. The state requires filing for a death certificate within 8 days. The holiday weekend was very busy in general and Accucare staff was able to come to our rescue within the 8 day window. The team answered the phones and returned calls within the day. Kristan in particular was the most helpful, and she compassionately explained the process to my bewildered family. They treated my father's body with respect and care as they transferred him and his remains were ready the very next day since I wanted to transfer a part of my father to Idaho where he would have loved the rugged country. Accucare contracted with Greenwood crematory for the cremation and the logistics were done perfectly. I don't think there is a more delicate and horrible business to be in - and if everything goes well and in a timely fashion it is worth it, but if the staff are prompt in returning communications as well as empathic and considerate, it is even better. Having glanced at the other negative reviews of the zombie receptionist, which is funny, I don't recall that same experience with the front office staff, so there must have been some staff turnover since those reviews. read more

Wish I didn't have the opportunity to review this company, but I do. My husband passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly and I had no idea what to do. I found Accu-Care from a brochure left with me by the TIP person. Thank you. I called several places and Accu-Care was by far the least expensive and least pushy about up-selling. I did most of the paperwork via email and only had to go in to sign the final papers and pick up the urn. They were very kind both over the phone and in person. They would not pick up any of my husband's effects from the Medical Examiner, which was a trip I really would have preferred to avoid, but they were very clear about it and I understood it before signing anything. I have used Accu-Care 3 times now - for my parents in 2011 & 2014 and my brother in 2018. When they met us to transport my parents after they passed, they were understanding and didn't hurry my brothers and me to finish our "good byes". I know it sounds odd, but the pricing is great and they don't try to up-sell - the cost of cremation services vary greatly. At a time that is usually quite difficult, I have found the Accu-Care people to be professional and compassionate. I must give a personal tribute to Tish Underwood and Accu-care for the amazing kindness and love they shared with my family over the past six weeks. We would never have made it through this horrible time without their support. My father was on Hospice and was near his time of passing. Tish came to our home and put all the plans in place for my parents burial. It was very stressful for us to take on this task but Tish made things so easy. There was no high pressure tactics just the facts. Little did we know my husband would die unexpectedly in two weeks and once again we turned to Tish and she wrapped us in her arms and went right to work taking care of all the arrangements for him. It was a seamless process and I highly recommend her to help you in this very emotional time. Last week my father went to heaven and once again we were knocking on Accu-cares door. Since it was pre-paid every thing was super easy. In California the wait time for cremation is 7-10 days and that is exactly the time frame my husbands remains were returned. Tish hand delivered my husbands remains and was so tender and kind to my children and I. It has been a rough 6 weeks but without the love and kindness from Accucare and Tish we honestly would have been in worse shape! They get a two star deduction for the cold nature and lack of any sort of compassion that they showed us when we returned to pick up my Mother's ashes. I realize it's a business, and that they handle cremations everyday, but a simple "I'm sorry for your loss." or "My condolences to you and your family." would have gone a long way. They were unable to adjust to requests and then used policy as justification which just felt uncompassionate. My family and I are very upset with our experience here. My father is a very prepared guy and had his cremation planned and paid for for years, even before he knew he was sick. He died after being on hospice for 6 weeks. When my mom called to notify accucare of my dad's passing we got stuck with an employee named Christopher Shields. He is in the wrong line of business. He could be a decent used car salesman. I understand this is a business but one of the first things he mention was a payment. NOT what a person wants to hear after someone very close just passed. Especially when it was already paid for. If he would have taken 5 more seconds to flip through all of my father's files he would have know it was already paid. My mom made an appointment that day because we "had things to finalize" and I went with her. Christopher was the most cold-hearted person I'd ever met. For a person that deals with death on a regular basis, you'd think he'd have compassion for others going through a tough time. All you could see in his eyes was $$$$$. There was one paper we needed to review for spelling errors. There were various spelling errors on the page. One thing that caught my eye immediately was what was written under education. It read "some college". To some, including Christopher, this may not be a big deal, but to our family it is. My father and I have the same Alma Mater and it was always something we bonded over. Not to mention, one of my father's proudest moments. He graduated and even started a Master's. I told Christopher that that was incorrect. His response was "well your dad already signed it so I can't change it now". He argued with me for a bit. I was so upset that I started to cry. My mom asked me what was wrong and I told her what I felt. It wasn't until then that Christopher mentioned sending a copy of my dad's diploma over. Something he should have mentioned the moment I said that part was incorrect. Next was an urn choice. My father wanted a handmade one from our neighbor, but it wasn't completed. It would be $35 for a plastic urn and $35 to transfer the ashes from urn to urn. My dad hadn't even been cremated yet so why would we need the urn right then and there? Why couldn't we just bring it within the next couple days? Christopher tiptoed around the answer and concluded with, "well you're already spending 70 dollars and we have a 70 dollar urn here so you could just get this. I replied, "it's not the money, it's the thought and it's what my dad asked for". We decided on just the $35 plastic urn and would transfer ashes ourselves since some of my dad's brothers wanted ashes and since some would be spread in the ocean. That left us with a positive balance of $20 dollars. Nothing there was that inexpensive but he said you should just use the $20 on something else. My mom bought a mini urn and ended up spending another $20. Christopher was too much of a salesperson and it saddens me that is has to be that way. Instead of being caring and compassionate, he just wants to make money off you. Like I said before, it's a business, and I get that. But, there's got to be a way to show 1 ounce of care or compassion. It could make me more inclined to make a purchase of something I may not even want or need. It's called customer service and just being a good human. I'll make sure that none of my loved ones go through this bad experience. I would not recommend this business to anyone. read more

We had 6 months to prepare for my Husbands passing. Chose Accu-care because they were close and seemed to offer the simple serivces we needed. They came very quickly and were very respectful, unrushed and prepared to make the situation as easy as possible for me. They handled him very kindly and it was gentle. They offered me time to feel safe and OK with everything. They called one week to the hour to gentley tell me his remains were available. As I entered the office they treated me great respect, didn't once prod me or try to sell me other services. I felt secure that his reamins were complete. They also checked to see if they could provide me with the Death Certificates so I wouldn't have to drive back again, just as a courtesy. It has been six months since my husband passed away. We thought we had more time, and had not pre checked cremation services. Received a "short list" from our church, I looked on line, called a few, one "well known" was very pushy, and expensive, felt very slick, really turned me off. The folks at Accu-Care had a decent web site, they were significantly cheaper, but mainly were nice on the phone. I called our church office, they said they had dealt with them often, and they had never had a problem. When my husband passed, they arrived within the time they said, were extremely polite and reverential. I left the room while they moved him from the bed to the gurney, but before they left a clergy friend stopped to visit, the team was more than happy to "unwrap" my husband to our friend could spend a few minutes in saying good bye. A few days later, I went to pick up the death certificates at their offices, again, very cordial and respectful, and later again when we went to pick up the ashes. They did not try to up-sell me on anything, were very kind and I was very comfortable with the whole procedure. I would, and have recommended them to anyone. read more

When someone pass either from old age or in my case an unexpected death, as was the case for us as my husband was killed by a drunk driver. The grief and disbelief are paralyzing and you are not sure what to do next. I knew from the moment I made the first call that Kimberly Pierce and Accu-care would help to make this difficult process a bit easier. Kimberly had to work with several of our family members grieving in their own way and she took the time to listen to each persons concerns and help us to come to agreement on things where there was more than one point of view. Kimberly was compassionate and understanding, she listen to each and every one of us with this tragic event in our life. She went above and beyond to take care all of our request and to make sure that everything was taken care. I picked up my husbands ashes a while ago and the memorial will be later this month, and even though Accu-care is finished with their part in this tragic matter, I have still be able to call Kimberly several times to ask questions that have come up along the way. My mother was living in an assisted living facility in Vista Ca. when she passed away at the age of 100. While death is certainly expected at that age it still is an emotional experience when it's your own mother. My sister lived near-by and saw our mother every day so it was especially hard for her. I live on the east coast but was fortunate to have just visited my mother about one month before she passed. I had already done some research in locating a cremation facility to fulfill my mothers wishes to be cremated and then buried next to her husband in a NYC cemetery. I contacted Tish Underwood who had provided some general information to my sister some months before my mother passed and I asked about pricing I had seen in an Accu-Care brochure. She immediately told me that the cost would be less than what I had seen in the brochure---just the opposite of what one would expect to hear at a moment like that. Tish made no attempt to sell anything additional than a basic service and an urn suitable for burial which was what we wanted. From the moment we informed Tish of the death of our mother to the handing over of the ashes all arrangements were made smoothly and without any need on our part to be involved. When we did have questions they were answered quickly and with sensitivity. Communication with Tish was efficient and timely which is very comforting at such a time . Be careful when contacting this Crematory. They will promise you anything to get the business, and once they do be prepared to do everything yourself. We recently used them to arrange a cremation and coordinate with the Navy, Rosecrans cemetary. They told us they would coordinate the honor guard, burial at sea, and communication between all parties. We would up arranging everything with the Navy, cemetary and following up to make sure everything was scheduled. Just today, I called the Navy Honor Guard to verify they would be there and they told me they had faxed Accu-Care that it was arranged. I was on the phone twice before that and they didn't say a word which would have saved me two long distance calls. read more
