Like so many of the other reviews, I have only positive things to say about Oceanside Mortuary and their team of compassionate representatives. As I live in Northern California, when my father passed away I did not know who to select for his mortuary needs and went with another service. My initial interactions with that company's representatives were so disappointing that I contacted Oceanside Mortuary. Within the first few minutes of our phone conversation, they exhibited such care and professionalism that I asked them to take over my father's arrangements. When I met in person with Mary a short time later, she walked me through the process, explained options (all of which were very reasonable in price), and did not try to pressure me into selecting one option over another. My father's service, while brief, brought comfort to my mother and all who attended, and this was due in large part to Mary and her colleagues. Had my interactions with Oceanside Mortuary stopped there, I would have gladly given them five stars. Now, I would double that if I could. Let me explain. Several months after my father's passing I learned that my mother, as the widow of a veteran, might qualify for additional benefits if we could show one of several conditions had contributed to his death. While he had suffered from the listed conditions, they were not included on his death certificate. Not knowing where to begin, I contacted Mary and explained the situation. She soon took the lead with hospice, the physician who completed the death certificate, the county, and state, and was able to obtain a revised death certificate. She also put me in touch with an expert on veterans benefits who discussed with me my mother's situation. Mary's efforts helped my ninety-nine year old mother receive double the military benefits she had been receiving, which will allow her to stay in her current assisted living facility. As Mary worked to get the revised death certificate, she showed the same concern and attention to detail that she did when I first met her. Without any hesitation, I would unequivocally recommend Oceanside Mortuary to anyone who has suffered a loss in their family. read more

Our mom passed away and we were looking for a mortuary. We read many Yelp reviews online and decided to go with Oceanside. The reviews all spoke of Ray and the great work that he did. I cannot express enough in words about the care, the timeliness, the thoughtfulness and the professionalism that Ray and his team provided our family. If you are within twenty or thirty miles of Oceanside DO NOT and I mean DO NOT call any other mortuary. In this important time they fired on all cylinders, anticipating our needs, speaking thoughtfully and caringly as if they were going through a death in the family. I love these people because they treated us as people in need with understanding and compassion. They called and updated us without us asking. Monica was lovely as well. I cannot remember the name of the gentleman that picked our mother up but he was a sweetheart as well. When I die I hope Ray and Monica are around and my wife calls them. I give them 100 out of five. I want to take time to express our appreciation for Savannah Turhan who helped us through an extremely difficult time. Savannah went well above and beyond what we even expected from a mortuary. We had difficulties getting a doctor to sign the death certificate for our loved one. Savannah worked diligently to get the doctors office to do what they were supposed to do. Where do I begin?! So I recently became a 30 yr old widow when my husband was in a fatal motorcycle accident. Having never expected this- I was obviously unprepared. I am an Oceanside local, my husband used to build motorcycles across the street from the mortuary. Well, when it was time to decide where his body would be taken to, I made some calls and,Oceanside mortuary was the obvious choice. This was the toughest thing I've ever gone through, and they did an outstanding job. In particular, Mary was the one who really walked me through everything. That woman is an absolute godsend. She gracefully navigated through our family dynamics, and treated me with so much patience, kindness, and respect. She was accommodating to my requests- and she made his final preparations beautiful. I truly feel like he was honored in the most "him" ways. We did an open casket viewing- and he looked so handsome, peaceful, and proud. I couldn't be happier with the way his final arrangements went. I am so so thankful for Mary, and for the Oceanside Mortuary team. My husband got the send off he deserved. We were treated with respect, patience's, compassion, and they went above and beyond. I rarely write reviews, but this time I really felt like I had to. Oceanside Mortuary helped my family and I during one of the most difficult times. Ray and I believe his name is Mclen (a young man) were extremely helpful, and that is just an understatement. They were very informative and helped us look for resources to pay, since death is a very unexpected tragedy. We were not prepared for the fees, and like I said, they provided all information needed. We had gone to different places before coming here (for information) and we felt the warmth and patience from them, not to mention the prices. The other places were crazy expensive! I'm usually too lazy to leave Yelp reviews, but I saw that there were no reviews here so I figured I might as well. We initially chose Oceanside Mortuary primarily for the cost - they were about 2/3 the cost of another mortuary we called in Sorrento Valley. We needed a cremation with no service, so our largest concerns were cost and cremation policies. They gave us a cost (down to the cent) over the phone before we ever came in, and that was exactly what they ultimately charged us. The staff at Oceanside mortuary were very kind and professional. We interacted primarily with Danielle, who provided us with all of the information we needed. I'd never have pictured myself feeling comfortable discussing arrangements at a mortuary, but the experience was actually smooth and much more pleasant than I would have thought. Danielle didn't push us to go for an expensive urn or add any sort of options. In fact, she repeatedly stated that we shouldn't feel pressured to purchase an urn from them at all. In the end, they took care of everything very quickly and exceeded our expectations in all regards. read more

I feel kind of odd reviewing a mortuary but in recent years my family has used this mortuary for funeral services and we've referred them to friends. interestingly, the funeral business is a very lucrative business and when you call some places, they want you to come in so that you can look and pick their packages. Or some places want you to prepay or give a deposit before even getting information on the deceased. Don't do any of these things. Hang up and call a different place, a mortuary that is family owned, such as Oceanside Mortuary. The staff at Oceanside Mortuary is compassionate and professional. Their embalming and memorial service prices aren't the cheapest but they are competitive. The prices of coffins as an industry is insane - I'm definitely getting cremated after learning about the total cost of a traditional burial (embalming, service and burial) being upwards to $20k. They are responsive to emails and phone calls. The day of the service, they are nothing but professional and the best at what they do. I can't say enough about this business as they really helped my friends and family through a very tough time. read more

My mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly and without doing any research I picked a different local mortuary. I became outraged by their disregard of her wishes and their administrative disorganization so I started looking around. Thankfully, I found Oceanside Mortuary. I thought I would just stop by with some questions. I had no appointment, but Jesus spent an hour with me explaining things and, really, just talking to me and letting me talk. He was very compassionate and understanding. I left there knowing that I had found the right place to take care of my mom. I recently went through the unexpected death of my mom. As strange as it sounds to say that the staff at Oceanside Mortuary made my mom's passing easier to handle, it's true. We have an out of state friend in the business, and he gave us wonderful insight into what to look for in choosing a mortuary. Oceanside Mortuary was everything he said to look for... transparent in the process, options, cost, and timeframe. Ray worked with us on the arrangements. He was very patient and compassionate. We also met with Danielle later to discuss some developments we hadn't anticipated and we found her to be very accommodating. My experience was so pleasant with the staff that when I drive by the mortuary, I can do so knowing my mom's remains and our family were cared for empathetically and professionally. I can't believe the terrible experience I had with this company. I had a very delicate case where there was the loss or a pregnancy at 23 weeks. I decided to have her cremated. The first time I called I spoke with Danielle and she seemed to know what she was talking about and helped with paperwork and the process. However every time I called after that I talked to a ambiguous person who asked a lot of personal and unnecessary questions about me and why I was calling. Repeatedly having me spell my dead daughters name. It turns out, I was talking to a call center and they were leaving messages for the mortuary. I had an urn delivered to the mortuary from amazon and was assured by Danielle it was received and labeled correctly. Fast forward a month, when I finally muster up the strength to pick up my baby. It was a disaster. I walk into a creepy empty mortuary and wait for Ray, who comes out with his sleeves rolled up, hands in pocket and asks what I need. He will act like I am intruding and bothering him the rest of my time in the building. I tell him why I am there. He comes with paperwork and tells me she is in a box. I tell him I had an urn delivered and assured it was taken care of. I received a call from Danielle saying I could come get her. Ray goes in the back and looks. He comes back out saying he found an urn and does this look like the one. I say yes, and he responds over and over again, " you need to contact whoever sent them and tell them they needed to label this better". Well, Ray, Danielle told me it was handled. Then I ask him to put my baby in the urn, and leave half the ashes out to be scattered. He disappears for over 10 minutes. I have my 2 year old growing impatient and start walking down hallways and knocking on doors looking for him, calling out "hello!" This could not have been creepier. He comes out from a locked room and yells "what!?" I ask why is this taking so long?, he responds with "this is a delicate process", "you need to be patient". Well, again, Ray, I thought this was done! Unacceptable. He resurfaced another 5 minutes later and hands me a bag and has me sign papers. He is much nicer now as a new couple/fresh business has entered the building. I tell him I had expected this to be done and when you leave someone in a business you should give them a estimate on how long this would take, he said "ok". Bottom line is this company charged me $350 to mishandle the remains of my dead baby. I later find out this is a free service provided by many churches. Shame on you Oceanside Mortuary for taking advantage of a grieving mom and then for caring even less after you had my money. read more

I have just finished up dealing with the second worst day of my life....and Oceanside Mortuary was there, once again, to help me through the process. Our family used this company with both my fathers passing 5 years ago, and with my mothers passing this last month. They are ALWAYS kind, helpful, sensitive to your needs, and willing to do anything they can to make the process as easy as they can for the family. Danielle K was AMAZING in her attention to details and keeping us all updated on what was to be expected. Jesus was kind and a wonderful support at the viewing and the service. My husband and I chose Oceanside Mortuary after speaking with Ray over the phone. He gave me clear explanations of the services and costs. Our biggest concern was our granddaughter's feelings over her father's death. Ray met with her, he was kind, thoughtful, and patient as he walked her through the necessary paperwork and procedures for the cremation. Later, she said, "Grandma, Ray was so patient with me. Today we buried my mother. She was 97. She lived in Carlsbad Ca and had instructed us to use Oceanside Mortuary when the time came. My mom was not right right about everything in her life but she was about this. We dealt with Krystal Maldonado at Oceanside for our mom's needs. As many times as I thanked Krystal it will never be enough. Here was a perfect stranger who at the end of the process felt like a family member. Her sensitivity, frankness, excellent advice and even her sense of humor made what would otherwise have been an extremely painful addition to an already awful time problem free and almost effortless. I cannot more strongly recommend Oceanside, and Krystal in particular, to anyone who faces the task of caring for a departed love ones final arrangements. Having to bury a loved one is the worst thing in the world. Unless you know your loved ones wishes you have to make all these decisions and hope it's what they would want. I lost both my Grandmothers, and my Father in less than two years. My Grandmothers both were sudden and 2.5 months apart. My Father we ( fortunately) actually had time to plan. During this difficult time Danielle and the entire staff at Oceanside Mortuary were amazing. They never once rushed us into a decision, and answered every question we had so we were fully aware of all decisions we were making. They were compassionate and not about making a buck.
