This man has no bedside manner, is gruff, doesn't explain anything to you, and has zero compassion. When he diagnosed me with severe cataracts 9 months ago, because I'm relatively young, I was shocked and became emotional, mostly due to the fear we naturally have when someone tells you that you need surgery on your eyes. And THAT infuriated him, which made it worse for me. Guess he forgot about the Hippocratic Oath. No doctor should behave like Dr. Shafik. Find another doctor like I did at the Eye Care Group (Dr. Kostina is wonderful) in Waterbury or wherever you feel comfortable. It makes a huge difference having a doctor who actually cares not only about your eyes, but about you as a person. And your fears about cataract surgery? It wasn't that bad with the right doctor!

The problem comes after your office visit and they try to pressure you into buying glasses or contacts here . They also went as far as putting a hold on ny VSP benefit when I only wanted an eye exam. I went to use my VSP plan at another eyewear provider and they said this fine office put an authorization hold on my benefits so that I could only use them at this provider.

Very disappointed with how this office handled our appointment. We had an eye exam scheduled for…read moreour son that was booked nearly a year in advance. When we arrived, we were told they no longer accept our insurance. This was extremely frustrating because they previously did accept our insurance, and no one contacted us ahead of time to cancel or notify us of the change. We left work early and took our son out of school early for this appointment, only to be turned away at the door. That level of inconvenience could have easily been avoided with a simple phone call. This felt unprofessional and showed a lack of respect for patients' time. Insurance changes happen, but communication is the responsibility of the office.
