Well, I was wrong. I placed my over and nothing happened for over a week. I called and spoke with someone in what appeared to be the Philippines, and they gave me a canned template response. I also called a couple of times a week later and again, same response, verbatim. It was that they closed their warehouse without notifying anyone who had placed orders. I guess they just didn't want to work during that 2 week period. I despise dealing with people overseas when they couldn't care less about your concerns. I canceled my order and went with another company. I fear that if one of the Phenix Rods breaks, I will have to deal with this again.

I took the boat in to have everything replaced in the lower drive, bellows, gimbal bearing, hoses, gaskets, gear oil change, shift cable, trim senders and more. I wanted everything replaced as a preventative measure, after looking at the old parts, everything still looked new and didn't even need to be changed- my fault for trying to be too cautious and i could have waited a couple years. All the other shops from OC to LA were booked up for months, so i went ahead with Boats Plus, even though the quote was nearly twice as much as everyone else- $1200 vs $2200 at Boats Plus. Bad mistake. Boat was operating very good before they touched it. Now i have to deal with: - Binding shift cable - hard starting - rough idling - gear oil leak coming from inside - forgot to reconnect the speedo tube - forgot to tighten some screws - spray paint overspray on the side of the hull - dirty greasy footprints all over the deck - greasy fingerprints everywhere - swim step bracket base broken - and more i cant think of right now And i cant be 100% sure the stuff on the inside is good, seeing how horrible the stuff on the outside looks. Did they even perform the work? Do i trust the bellows not to slip off? Called them, took it back, only for excuses and not accepting what they did wrong, tried to blame me. Tired of dealing with this old man jerk off, if they touch my boat again they will prob mess something else up. Save yourself major headaches, time, and money. Take your beloved vessel to a real marine shop.

Update: After receiving the boat back and it would not start while on Lake Elsinore pulled it out…read moreand primed the lines (they failed to do so after changing the fuel pump) another boater and I pulled the spark arrestor to ensure that fuel was making it into the bowls, because Ronnie (mechanic at allen marine) switched the plug wires (removed plugs to clean them) it caused an open intake valve to fire and ignite the the fuel in the carburetor causing Breeze Grass to receive 2nd degree burns to 40% of his body and to be hospitalized for several weeks and received numerous synthetic skin grafts. In addition virtual all the parts installed on the motor by Allen marine are automotive grade and should not have been used. Again the people seem nice but i would highly discourage anyone from using them.

It's more challenging to find opportunities to learn surf fishing, so I was thrilled to find Ben, a professional instructor who was a perfect fit for us. I highly recommend following Ben's suggestions for timing and location. His extensive knowledge about the best times and places to fish is something you can't fully appreciate. Although I learned a lot, it was still overwhelming to grasp everything at once. Trust his expertise. We even postponed our first scheduled appointment due to wave conditions, but I'm completely convinced it was worth it.
