I needed someone to check our Gaggenau oven so called Gaggenau and was given three local, certified repair companies. After reading through the reviews, I decided to give Ace Appliance Service a call. They were able to schedule an appointment within a week. On the day of the appointment they called to update me on the time and promptly showed up as scheduled. They charge $250 to come out and take a look which is fair since I don't expect them to drive to your place and work for hours without getting compensation. Our almost new Bosch dishwasher stopped running suddenly last week. Lights flashed, it would start a cycle, but then it abruptly stopped. The user booklet suggested several things to try, none of which worked. So I called Costco's warranty service line. They were very professional, and walked me through several suggested fixes. None worked. So with the Costco service rep serving as intermediary, we received a service authorization number from Bosch, which then provided a lists of five companies authorized to do service work under the Bosch warranty. Two of the five are on a different island, and one of those was reported to be out of business by other Yelpers. Of the three remaining, I noticed that Ace Appliance Repair had the most reviews, so I went with them. I spoke with Lynn in their office and got our service request underway. There was a little glitch setting it up, and Lynn was so pleasant to work with. She was good humored and I enjoyed working with her. In the end, we arranged a service call at the beginning of the week. Today Justin arrived right on schedule. He was pleasant, seemed very knowledgeable, and shared why it was taking him a while to run the diagnostics. But it didn't take too long for him to figure out that something had sent our dishwasher into "demo" mode. He said an electrical blip could do it, but other things could trigger as well. After several tries, he was able to get it out of demo mode and running properly. He then wrote out the instructions for what to do if this ever happens again. All in all, I give the company, and Justin, the tech, very high marks. I mentioned to Justin that I had enjoyed his mother's good humor. "That's my mom," he said. Our 12-year-old Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer recently starting giving us problems. Although it still works, ice crystals would form inside the right side of the freezer, and food items in certain areas of our refrigerator would freeze. We had a hunch that maybe it was time to buy a new one, but wasn't sure if it would be just a simple problem to fix. Who can we call? We checked Yelp and gravitated toward Ace Appliance Service (AAS) with a 5-star rating of 57 total reviews. Then, just so happened, my sister-in-law mentioned that she was pleased with Ace Appliance Service, whom she called from her friend who referred them to her, that fixed her dryer. I then researched the business and was satisfied with what I could find. With both testimonials and research, I anxiously called Ace to make an appointment. AAS is a family-owned business that has been operating for the past 7 years. The Tsugawa Family has Lynne taking care of appointment scheduling and the processing of payments, while husband Alan and his son, Justin, as well as a son-in-law that make up the technical team that does the repairs. We found the entire process seamless and were very satisfied with the end result and highly recommend AAR! Calling to make an appointment was easy peasy! Lynne was so gracious and understanding of our situation as I gave her our refrigerator brand, model no., and serial no. She noted that there is an automatic $99 charge for the house call, that they are normally busy, and that the next appointment available was about a week away; however, if there were any cancellations, she would call me. And she did! Someone had cancelled the next day, and I happily rescheduled for a two-hour block from 1p to 3p. While I mentioned to Lynne that I had a dinner reservation at 5p and was concerned that the repair guys could be still working at that time, she assured me not to worry, as she would note my commitment on the appointment. On the day of the appointment, Justin calls at 12:50p to tell us he's on his way. So prompt! He arrives, and COVID requirements in compliance, as he wears a facial mask and gloves, and social distancing in place. He quickly goes through the process of diagnosing the refrigerator/freezer. He noted the following: door gaskets torn and need replacement causing ice buildup with the leakage of air; thermostat control and sensor were stuck and needed to be replaced; plus labor. Total estimated cost to repair was not feasible as compared to just buying a new one. Justin presented us all the options and his suggestion, but ultimately, the decision was ours. We decided to purchase a new fridge, as our existing one was already 12 years old, and cost wise, it was more practical to buy one. We then asked Justin our many questions: what brand he would recommend, comparison of brands, where to buy, what to look for, whether to get the extended warranty, refrigerator life, etc. He also noted that major appliances such as fridges don't last as long as they used to, as environmentally friendly materials are now used which may compromise the durability of parts used in them. He patiently provided us with so much information that it made it so much easier to narrow down our choices for our next fridge, which we did purchase and will be delivered in a month. Justin then noted that because we paid $99 for the house call that can be applied to repairs, he offered to melt all the ice crystals in our freezer and grout our gaskets to seal them as a temporary fix until we get our new fridge. He stayed for another hour just to do this, as well as answer any further questions that we had. Just $99 and nothing more! We were so pleased with the service that Justin provided! He was well trained by his father and very knowledgeable about fridges. What was important to us was how honest and genuine he was, as we trusted him with the info that he provided us. He was professional, reliable, helpful, polite, and humble in his actions. Loved that he was on time and worked quickly and efficiently to diagnose the problem. And the price charged for what was done was very reasonable. AAR services most major household appliances, including clothes washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, stoves and ovens. Very best experience I've had with appliance repair, ever. Dishwasher not working properly in new apartment; called Monday morning, date set for Wednesday afternoon. Justin arrived on time, identified the Bosch dishwasher as 1999 model, listened and determined circulation motor not working, took apart the minimum to detect it was frozen, was able to un-freeze it, tested and showed it worked, educated me about the machine and how and where to get a new one while he listened to it, wrote down stores to replace it if necessary. I was having issues with my refrigerator ice maker for some time. The ice maker wouldn't cube the ice anymore and it would come out in clumps. There were times when it would get stuck and I would need to open the ice bin inside my refrigerator to try to loosen it up so it could drop. With French doors that can't fully open because of the wall right next to it (thanks previous owners), the ice bin is rather hard to get into, but luckily my arms aren't too big and I managed to clear it out by jamming my arm in there. The condensation would also drip down through the dispenser and sometimes overflow if I wasn't home to clean up the water or leave a rag to absorb it all. While irritating, I just dealt with it and never bothered to call someone to take a look at it. But while in conversation with my building manager one day, he happened to highly recommend Ace Appliance Service for appliance troubles so I decided to give them a call. This is a family run business. Lynne (the mother of the family) fields the calls coming in. She retrieves all the pre-appointment information (e.g., model, serial number) needed for them to have an idea of what the problem is. Keep in mind that while they service most brands (Kenmore, Whirlpool, Fridgidaire, Electrolux, KitchenAid, Amana, Maytag, Bosch, Miele, Wolf, Gagganau, Subzero, Thermador, Asko and Major Home Appliance Repairs - clothes washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, stoves and ovens), there are brands that they do NOT service (Samsung, LG, Fisher Paykel, GE Monogram brand appliances). They are pretty busy, so you may not be able to secure an appointment until a week or two later. Justin (the son in the family) came to my home to service my ice maker. He called ahead of time to let me know he was on his way. While young, he is very knowledgeable about appliances. He talks you through the issues your appliance may be going through and the types of options you could look into, as well as options that would just be a waste of money and time so you don't have to bother. Basically what I learned is that no matter what type of refrigerator you buy, the life of the appliance isn't very long and you'll always run into the same type of issues (e.g. ice clumping, water freezing inside, water condensation that drips through the dispenser). So unless you have a $20,000+ refrigerator, it's probably more cost effective to just buy a new one rather than repairing it for a temporary fix. Justin took off the door of my refrigerator so he could pull out the whole ice bin and defrost it as some water had frozen over in it, which was causing it to not cube the ice anymore. He also took a look further back to see if there were any other issues lurking, but he said luckily it looked okay considering my refrigerator was already 6 years old. So while I feel like I paid a lot for him to basically clear out (which I had already been doing, but in just a harder way) and unfreeze my ice bin, I was thankful that he explained a lot of the other issues that could happen and whether it would be worth it to get it repaired or not. While I did my best to follow along what he was telling me, I will admit some of it went over my head. It was nice that he wrote down a summary of all the things we talked about on my invoice so that I would have a record of it to look back on later. He actually recommended to just turn off my refrigerator's ice maker to avoid any future problems and buy a countertop ice maker from Costco. This is my current solution to ice making for the time being. Still trying to decide if I want to make it my permanent solution, though. It's a little sad to know that no matter what brand or type of appliance you buy, they're always going to give you issues. For something that you spend quite some money on, you'd think you'd get a better value. But if you do run into issues, Ace Appliance Service is the company to call should you own one of the brands that they service. They won't try to overcharge you or try to get you to keep calling them if unnecessary. They provide guidance on what steps you should take next. My Bosch dishwasher stopped emptying water after a wash cycle creating a big mess and making it unusable. The DW was 18 years old but it looked and ran like new...until now. After a series of phone calls and online quote requests, it turns out only a few repair companies will work on Bosch appliances. Ace Appliance service repairs Bosch: For a fixed diagnostic fee they will come out and check it out and of course apply the fee to the repair. Expert Diagnostics: Justin systematically checked the operation and concluded the drain tube was clogged and attempted to unclog it. He gave me a quote for further unclogging efforts and possible part replacement including labor. Advice: He could repair it but it would not be cost-efficient since it was 18 years old. A new DW would probably made more sense because it would cost about the same as the repair. Long story short: Lynne, the dispatcher, communicated quickly and clearly and gave me a same-day appointment. I had the option to repair or replace. But Justin was obviously experienced and knowledgable. I should have figured this out myself...realistically any 18 year old appliance may not be worth fixing. I just couldn't accept that my quiet reliable most favorite DW needed replacement. He worked hard to try to unclog it. I'm glad I found Ace Appliance and they will be the first call I make in the future. Be Aware: There are certain brands that they will and will not repair. So check the list online. Bad experience. We phoned to have them look at the 'down draft' which is a fan connected to our stove. We knew it was broken, we thought Ace could fix it. So the worker shows up. Spends an hour or so working on it. Tells us it is broken (which we already knew). Suggested may be better for us to replace it , but that he would come back to us with a quote for potentially repairing it. Nearly 3 weeks have gone by. Never followed up with a quote, or even to tell us that he is unable to fix it. So we paid $209 to have him tell us our appliance is broken, which we already knew. 1- they never replied to the quote request, so i had to call 2- i already know that my washer drum/tub is unbalanced because it is tilted to the side....the lady on the phone said they will charge $95 to "diagnose" and $25 for every $15 min after that 3- when I told her i know what is the problem i just need to fix it, she repeated the same prices.. and added that " unbalanced tub is almost impossible to fix and she just wanted to let me know up front but they will still charge me for diagnosing and estimation" 3- after i hung up with her....i searched youtube, found a 6 min free video, a random guy saw me at lows and offered to come and fix it, and he did in 10 min for free.
