How have I not rated this place yet? I LOVE this bar. I drive or uber from the O Park area of Denver sometimes just to go here and have a great time. I wish I could say this place is great, but alas. The service, and this is coming from a server, is abysmal. My friend and I left at 1:30 when lights came on. Realized a debit card was left. We called at 1:40. The woman answered, yelled "CLOSED" and hung up the phone. We tried to call again they answered, we spoke, they hung up the phone. We aren't from golden, so the drive there and back is a huge hassle when not going for a reason. We played the call and hang up game for another 5 minutes. 1:52 am we arrive back at the bar. Every employee is standing there, I can physically hear them saying "oh she's here for her card" and talking about the situation before yelling through the door "we are closed! Come back at 8 am!" Posted hours being open to 2:00 am. I deeply get it, we are tired. Want to go home, serving drunk customers all night. We both had two beers each. That's it. If I could leave zero stars, I would. Horrible experience last Sunday afternoon.....The bartender was obviously intoxicated; we could not even get her attention. I have been coming to the Ace for years, as I live in Evergreen. I have always had a great experience...until Sunday. We noticed that the bartender was paying special attention to one table, which seemed to be positioned right next to the bar. I brought friends from out of town, raving about how cool and fun the Ace is......they were NOT impressed. We could not even order a drink and ended up at the Buffalo Rose. Cool bar, great ambiance. Karaoke was a blast and the crowd was so much fun. Lots of laughing and smiles all around. Downside was that the bartenders were really, really rude. Eye rolling, huffing and slammed the glasses on the bar when we ordered drinks. Both of them were clearly not happy to be there and very put out to get our orders. I'm not sure why because it was a really fun crowd. Still had a great night there despite of it but I'm not sure I'd come back because of that. read more

No frills, no fuss. Ace-Hi Tavern is a quintessential dive. Golden is lucky to have a place like this in the heart of downtown. 50 years young with no signs of slowing down! We walked in to a lively Saturday night crowd around 8pm. The entire female crew behind the stick were hustling. They were cranking out drinks faster than you could ask for one. Seriously, my Dale's Pale and the lady's whiskey ginger instantaneously appeared in our hands. What else happened while we were here? Karaoke was in full swing. Hot dogs were appearing out of the blue behind the bar. The 6'5 bouncer was fun to watch. The registers went down. Customers were inebriated and doing entertaining things. This was the first place we found open for a drink in the morning. We checked it out while we waited for the Coors Brewery Tour to open. It's walking distance, which was prime. They serve pints of Coors for like $2 on Friday mornings! Great deals. Cool dive spot. Seems like a nice mix of locals/tourists, young/old, etc. Everyone was friendly, but especially our barkeep. The 2 bartenders were awesome and kept our large group satisfied with excellent service and I tried a new NA beer called Coors Edge based on their recommendation!! I don't know how to explain it but something just happens at this bar. Its terrifying and magical. It takes your mind and puts it aside for you and honestly you don't get a say in it. You don't need a mind here. Ace-Hi knows best. It just pulls you into its zone, hard to describe. You have to be ready for it. A few weeks ago we went and my mind went straight into the abyss and we had the best time singing karaoke I think. Met so many new friends. We forgot the credit card there and we were so wrecked we couldn't make it back to get it til 7pm the next day. Turns out we ordered 13 well vodkas ... sounds about right. Felt about right. The divey-er the better and this one is pretty divey. Three star is like a five star in dive bar world. Stiff drinks, sticky floor, interesting bathrooms and on and off key karaoke. Golden. (No pun intended since this is in Golden.) The keep was fast and friendly but not too friendly because too friendly takes away from the dive bar experience. We went on Saturday and it was packed. Thanks his is one of best Dive Bars I've been to. We went here for an after party from the wedding reception. The bartender rocked. She was fast and friendly. The quintessential image a "True" bartender. They had karaoke which was entertaining and fun. The doorman/bouncer was friendly and kept a safe, fun environment. Still the classic dive bar. I have hung out on the patio with my dog for years now. Michele is the best but they're all hard working no nonsense bartenders. You'll almost always make new friends here or at least good conversation with locals or visitors of all ages. The bad news - there's a quilt store (I am not kidding...) opening next to it and the patio will be reduced to about half its current size which will SUCK. My hangout since living nearby the last couple years and yes it's a sort of dive bar in the classic sense. You don't get all uppity at the Ace! I love it because the lady bartenders all love dogs, get to know you and your preferred beverage, are friendly when not overrun, and just make it that 'where they know your name' kind of experience. Same for the patrons and they are a TRULY varied bunch. Not many below 30 (maybe at night, I only do afternoons there mostly). Bikers, tourists, regular folk, old timers (like me) etc. Come on down and hang out on the patio especially on a weekend afternoon. Watch the world go by, pet the dogs, make some new friends. This is definitely a dive bar. We came to visit from California, first time in Colorado. Great service, Michelle the bar tendre was great. The bar was almost empty when we got here but it got pretty busy in an hour and she was able to handle a full bar all by herself and she never seemed frazzled. We were meeting some friends for lunch at Woody's across the street and had arrived a half an hour too early. "Oh no!", we thought, "What ever will we do with ourselves?!?". So we Yelped up the nearest watering hole and Ace Hi was clearly the spot. We figured it was Saturday around noon, so Bloody Marys were probably in order. We sidled up to the bar and ordered two. The place is rather narrow and long - typical of old western town construction, and hosted a bevy of local regulars - a few of them clearly well on their way to Tipsyville. A delightful gal brought us our libations. Delicious. One of the better Bloody's I've had in a while. Within moments, a friendly banter was struck up between us and a couple of old timers. I was here on a Saturday afternoon during Happy Hour. The Ace-Hi Tavern has a great Happy Hour every day between 4 and 7:00 PM - that doesn't exclude weekends like a lot of bars. $1.75 for select pints / $6 for a pitcher. They have a great outdoor seating area right on Washington St. They've posted signs warning that "table service" might be a little hit or miss on the patio and giving you the option of going inside to get your drinks which is what I did. Service inside was extremely prompt and courteous - the ladies at the bar where quite friendly. I was there only for drinks and can't attest to their food offerings. It is, however, a great drink to sit on the patio and to enjoy a beer while watching the sights. read more
