I stayed at this hotel from June 12-16, 2025, and was really disappointed with the experience. I booked Room 303 for myself and added Room 304 for my sister. Both rooms had serious cleanliness issues Room 304 was especially bad. There were stains and peeling paint on the walls, and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly. There were black spots throughout that made it feel really unsanitary. Room 303didn't have a working iron. We let the front desk know, but it took several calls before one was finally brought up. What really pushed things over the edge was my sister's late arrival on the night of June 12. I had already checked her in, knowing her flight would be delayed and she'd be arriving after midnight. But when she showed up around 1:30 a.m. with her two young children, she was left standing outside knocking on the door for a while. No one answered at first because the staff member at the front desk was apparently asleep. I've stayed here before and used to trust this hotel, but this visit fell way below expectations. Between the cleanliness issues, poor response from staff, and the unprofessional late-night check-in experience, I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

This was my second time staying there. It's hard to find a hotel in NYC with balconies, but this one has not disappointed. Newer and clean and great staff. They don't automatically clean your room daily, but I'm not used to having that at home, so it's not really a disappointment. Love the balconies and the convenient area. read more

I stayed in this hotel for 4 weeks with my sick son when we had to vacate his nearby apartment. The Allen Hotel staff were incredibly kind and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. David, the manager, was willing to accommodate us in whatever way was needed to ensure a pleasant stay. The housekeeping staff were hardworking, pleasant, professional, and took pride in their work. The grounds of the hotel were very clean. They always took our trash, empy bottles, dirty linens whenever we left them by the trash receptacle or outside our door for pick up. The gym has so many amenities, weights, machines. It's true that there may be some peeling of wallpaper or some traces of mold in shower, but overall, you're not paying top dollar, and it was a comfortable stay. They also allow guests to use a lobby area that used to be a restaurant. So if you need a quiet place to do work or heat up food, that comfortable space is made available for guests. All the front desk people are pleasant and willing to go the extra mile to try to accommodate your requests. When I needed extra water bottles or something to be printed, they were happy to do so. A seamless check in, quiet, friendly, and very informative to guess. I will most definitely stay here again.

This one is hard for me. I normally don't like to speak negatively about businesses. However, after staying here, I had to put this out for others to be aware, especially with how much the stay cost. Here are a few major points to my rating. 1. rooms/beds - so unfortunately when we first walked in we realized the room felt really cramped. It was way smaller than we remember seeing listed in the description. The beds were also smaller. The listing said full, but there is no way the beds were that big. We checked other online discussions and realized we weren't the only ones to notice. We are pretty sure the beds are double/Twin XL 2. Bathroom - at first glance, the bathrooms looked decently clean, but we ended up finding mold throughout, especially in the sink. 3. Walls - the wallpaper across the entire room was peeling off of the walls. It was quite a lot. 4. Window - After staying we heard rumor of mold within the curtains. Upon checking, we sadly found mold in multiple spots on our curtains. It was specifically on the inside in-between the two curtains. We think this is partly a reason as to why more than one of us encountered some breathing issues during our stay. 5. The hotels key/light system is frustrating. To have any power within the room we had to have a room key at the door at all times. This is frustrating because we had three people and only two cards. So if people wanted to leave the other person had no power In the room. If a key card has to stay, at least give us enough cards for the people there. 6. In a positive note the staff we encountered was nice, and it seemed like a decent enough area. read more

This place is a rare gem in the middle of Chinatown. I stayed here for a friend's birthday party in the area. It was a staycation right here in New York City. I was able to reach here by the B/D trains. There are several restaurants and bars in walking distance. I never explored the area before so this was a nice way to start. As soon as you enter you are greeted by the staff at the front desk. The waiting room is gorgeous with high chandeliers. If you are arrive early and are waiting for your hotel room this is a great area to relax. This hotel is a standard New York City hotel. By that I mean high prices and tiny rooms. The hallways were super narrow and room was small even for two people. I expected as much staying in New York City. There was one room for the bed and a common room to eat and relax. The positive was a balcony which provided a nice view of the surrounding areas. We were able to see both the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center from here. It was a Friday night so I expected lots of foot traffic in the hotel. The restaurants next door were packed with people enjoying outdoor dining. We were able to walk out, explore the area, and come back without any trouble. If you are looking for a nice hotel stay in the Lower East Side/ Chinatown area this is your spot. read more

I came to NY for a concert and chose to stay here just for one night and kind of glad it was a short stay.. Checking In: My room wasn't ready when I arrived around like 3:40 so I had to wait an hour which was a bit bummy. Staff was sweet and said they had a lot of check outs today and only two cleaners so I understood but still sucked. Cleanliness: The room looked really nice! The bathroom didn't have hand soap and instead they gave me two body bars which I thought was weird but I think I've seen that before at another hotel so it's not like that taboo. The shower had a weird funky smell that seemed like it was maybe coming from the drain? It also didn't look like it was cleaned? Like it wasn't dirty thankfully but it looks like it was maybe just wiped down with like a dry cloth and that's it? The glass door had dust on it and so did the shower handle. The toilet also had brown stains on them that were hardened. Bedding/Sheets: There were a couple of stains on the comforter that could potentially be ink and food. Also, one of the pillows also had two small holes in them I also noticed they had slippers in one of the draws under the tv so I opened one of the packs but saw the slippers had stains on them towards the heel. I opened the other pair and saw the same thing. Even though they're in packages, it looks like they just reuse the slippers and just wash them which I think is a bit gross especially with there being a stain. The photos sadly don't show them as good cause of the lighting. Lighting: Good amount of lighting throughout but the light in the bathroom in the shower section flickers which can be annoying. They don't have breakfast which is totally okay! At the front desk, there's a small sign that has food recommendations and the woman at the desk said that same sign was in my room but I didn't see one in my room. Totally okay! If you're interested in seeing the list, definitely stop by the front desk. Noise: The walls are pretty thin and I had trouble getting a good amount of sleep. You can hear conversations in the hallway pretty clearly and I can even hear other peoples tvs. I was on the first floor and my little pop out window was right above the storage room that's by the front desk -- like when I open the window I can see everyone's bags. So I can hear when people were coming into the hotel and also leaving since the front door was right there. I could also hear when people were getting in/off the elevator. Deposit: I paid my $150 deposit in cash so that I can get it back when I checked out. I asked if I could have a receipt or some kind of confirmation that I paid the deposit but was told they don't provide that if it's cash. Definitely something that should be changed because handing over $150 with no proof of the exchange made me a bit uneasy. It's in a good location with a lot of restaurants nearby and it's a 5 min walk to the train but I definitely don't see myself staying again and am a bit bummed for the experience overall. We snagged 701 for four nights and then opted to extend one more night in one of your lower-floor rooms. Both rooms were great, but of course the penthouse terrace is a remarkable bonus. Your lovely Front Desk team was helpful at every turn. We called before arrival and got great info, and when in town every member (including all the "Jennifers") was consistently pleasant and adherent to any requests we had. We've already started plans to return in August; we definitely will spring for 701 and those amazing views for this coming summer. My first room was beautiful, very bright, spacious, and a great bathroom. The second room was actually the handicap accessible room and it was not the same. My towel had a spot on it. The seat in the shower and shower curtain were gross and the door to get to the patio had a lip making it inaccessible. Staff were nice and helpful. You can hear every door open and shut in the hallways all night which kept me up. Also the smell of someone's weed on the patio next to mine came in all night in the second room. read more

Have only been here a few hours and we are already impressed. Beautiful, new hotel with lots of charm and personality. Got a decent rate online, but saw the prices drop even more (below $100) on discount sites like the hotel tonight app. Rooms have floor to ceiling windows (and some with a balcony) and either 2 double beds or a king size. Hardwood floors, a spacious armoire, mini frig, electric stainless steel tea kettle, tons of wall outlets/adapters and modern bathroom with a stall/glass shower. Rainfall shower head is quite high up, perfect for taller people. My boyfriend is 6'5" and he was thrilled. Room also had a couple of complimentary waters, plus toiletries like a razor, toothbrush and toothpaste, just in case. There are even electronic door indicators instead of the traditional hanging "do not disturb" or "please clean" signs. They let us check in early with no issues and gave us a complimentary breakfast which is usually extra. Customer service is clearly a strong point. Location is great as well. Definitely plan to return here in the future. read more

On checkout day I woke feeling sick probably from food allergic reaction or poisoning. Or maybe the bump on my head from when I bent down to fry my feet in the tiny bathroom I could barely stand straight and had extreme vertigo, vomiting and headache.I called the front desk to ask to extend stay because I was I'll and they said no. So I asked for later checkout and after a short pause they said noon. But shortly after getting the OK for noon the hotel manager knocked on my room door and said I had to leave, no extension on check out, leave now. Of course she could clearly see I was sick but the answer was no. She did not ask if I needed a doctor or was there anyone she could call, nothing. I don't remember how I did it but I was able to get a room at another hotel nearby and an Uber to take me there. I spent two days recovering in the much more comfortable hotel where a friend came by to help me feel well enough to get back home. Pros: Clean. Cons: where is the humanity?The beds are hard, there are no lamps, all lights are ceiling. No dressing mirror in the bathroom. The classic Asian wooden interior is beautiful. The staff are friendly, professional and polite. The area is completely surrounded by restaurants, bars, and plenty of things to do. Worst night ever and only because the guy that is working here Reggie is so rude and nasty it really crazy he is a rude person and does not need to be n the business of serving people at all what happen was I checked in around 3:30 I turned my heat on turn my TV on and left back out. Came back in around 6:20 PM when I got back in here I noticed that my heat was lower than what it was when I left out because when I left out, it was on 73 or 74 and when I came back in, it was on about 69 so we turned the heat off. And turned it back on and then noticed there was an error code that came up, so I looked the error code up online for this machine, and it said compressor doesn't work and then proceeded to call the front desk. The guy answered and told me to wait about 5to 10 minutes because he was on lunch break. so I waited for about 35 minutes then I called the front desk again and he answered and told me that he forgot he's on his way now. When he gets here I let him in the room. He comes over to the heat and presses the on and off button and cancel button and the mold button and the fan speed button and then proceeds to tell me that the heat just jumped back on that. I should wait about 10 minutes. I then told him that it just did the same thing to me and there's no heat pushing out of the vent at all. I also told him that I looked the code up online and it maybe it's broken. he then proceeded with a attitude and started to get very argumentative with me saying that give him 10 minutes in a very rude voice and. Start yelling at me telling me how he don't need this job. He doesn't need to work here. He told me to look at him. Does it look like he needs this job? Does it look like he cares and then told me to just be cold I didn't think that was a part of me staying here tonight to be cold. He then proceeded down the hallway, screaming threats. I am an obvious lesbian woman. He proceeded telling me how I needed some penis and begin threatening me on his way, walking down the hallway to the elevator as I noticed my room key was locked inside my door. I went downstairs to get a new key. He was on his phone with his supposedly manager telling him a whole different story but also stating that. he again wasn't the one to be played with and he doesn't need this job his manager, then began to laugh with him on the phone and as I got closer, I asked for a key for my room. He began to tell me no, he doesn't have a key for me. His manager that was on the phone told him to stop it and give me a key. This is very unprofessional and that should've made the manager honestly do something. Nothing was done at all. I'm still waiting for the room to be heated. We don't live around here. We drove three hours to come here and I chose this hotel because it seemed clean and it seemed like we would get respect where we were staying at, but I was wrong. I will give this place no stars if I could. so then I went outside to smoke a cigarette and when I walked back in the door, I was given a tiny little space heater and a card saying that that was the manager's card and phone number, but it's not it's the phone number to the hotel. We stayed here for 6 days/5 nights. I don't know how but we got the most beautiful room. We were on the corner of the 3rd floor and had large windows overlooking the area. The room was surprisingly spacious and the bathroom was amazing. The shower has high pressure and very hot. The bed was a pillow top spring bed. We tend to like a firm bed so we slept great. Their pillows were large and fluffy. Housekeeping doesn't come into your room until check out but the front desk was great about giving us more towels. Actually, the front desk was very tentative and kind. They provided us with more toothpastes, waters, towels, and masks. The area is Chinatown, which can look rough. Of course, the more diverse areas have been neglected in the past by the City due to the minorities. BUT my husband and I thought we stayed in a great spot. The food options were terrific, especially Dudley's. We felt like we were surrounded by locals instead of the tourists. We had no issues with safety. There was a subway within 5-6 min walk and the tourists destinations were accessibly easily. My only complaint is that the AC could be a bit more powerful because the lowest it got was 70. Of course, I think this hotel is old and remodeled. We are also staying in NYC during the summer so I'm just happy to have AC. All in all, the price was well beneath what I expected. Hmm this hotel - I'm a New Yorker who wanted to do a staycation and explore Soho/Chinatown and Little Italy more. This hotel is conveniently located at the foot of LES and can easily walk to all of these neighborhoods. That, I was really happy about. The hotel also had everything I wanted in a hotel room - a fridge, a balcony, water pot heater to make tea in the morning, nice towels, a big screen tv (although channels are limited and Bluetooth wasn't working), two water bottles, toothbrush + toothpaste, comb, shower cap, razor, lotion, shampoo/conditioner, soap, body wash, needle and tread, qtips and cotton balls. I was highly impressed with all of these amenities, something I never got at a Marriott for example. The hotel is super clean and well-kept. The bed was too firm for me but I didn't have a bad night's sleep; the pillows helped a lot since they were very fluffy and soft. Now the reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because of the excessive noise from guests on my floor and the very strong odor of marijuana throughout the hallway and from the balcony that entered into my room. The first night, there were people coming in and out of one room who kept slamming the door and talking very loudly until 3 in the morning! I had to call the front desk two times and both times the guy said he would check it out but it seems like nobody came because the guests were still loud and slamming the door. The next morning I went to the gym which was very clean and nice. When I was ready to go to the sauna and steam room, neither turned on. I called the front desk and they said because of COVID it was off. BUT before I booked the hotel I called them and they said guests could use it until 1:30pm. I was highly disappointed. The next night was a lot better but there were still moments that people were loud and slamming the door just this time it was until like midnight. The smell of marijuana was still prevalent which I really didn't appreciate. Overall, it seems like a lot of ghetto people stay here - I'm not against urbanism, shit I grew up in the hood but I really dislike when people are so incredibly inconsiderate. We had a reservation confirmed thru hotels.com. Then they said it was cancelled 3 days before our checkin date. Which was not true. Then they tried to say our credit card was declined. Also not true as we had set up to pay at the property. When hotels.com tried to call them they lied several times. We were listening to her conversation and were shocked. Luckily Hotels.com got us a new hotel. In the end we were glad to move on. read more

The Allen Hotel needs to get rid of the entire first floor of rooms. Starting early in the morning I can hear everybody in the lobby and seating area speaking in normal voices, not being loud in any way, as if they were on microphones with speakers directed right into our room. The windows don't face the outside, they face the lobby. The lobby has echo, the echo goes right into the room. I can hear people walking up the stairs right now as I type this, **clunk clunk clunk clunk clunk**, as if they were right next to me (they ARE right next me, actually). Last night I asked the people at reception to keep it down. I realize now, they really weren't being loud, it's just that the placement of this room is fucking stupid. Also, it sounds like they hired somebody to throw big metal pans around in the hallway. Seems ridiculous, but that is 100% what it sounds like. REALLY GLAD we paid $200/night for this horseshit. This is a very nice hotel nestled in the L.E.S. Its so many things to do in the area, if you decide to leave your room. I booked my room on booking.com so I saved a bit. I didn't have any issues with confirming my reservation!! Shout out to John that accomodated me, he was so sweet and helpful. We got there around 2 pm and our room was ready we stayed in a King Balcony Suite on the 6th floor. The room was perfect. We had to use key card to ride elevator up and to use utilities in the room. It was quiet and our stay was lovely. There are so many eateries and shops nearby if you plan on getting out. I plan on coming back in the summer time. This was definitely worth it. read more

We had a very nice week-long stay here. The rooms are no tighter than expected for the area and the noise was exactly as I had presumed it would be. Not terribly loud but certainly NYC noisy. The location is great. The Allen is surrounded by great food and good prices and plenty of nightlife opportunities. Subways are very close by and you can get anywhere you need very easily. The rooms were clean and had all of the necessary amenities plus some nice, just in case, extras. Staff was friendly and helpful whenever I spoke with them. The only downside are the beds. The mattresses we had were so hard it felt like camping on a foam pad. Luckily the pillows are long, I was able to lay beneath me to get some semblance of softness. read more

No Windows / False Advertising, No Response from Customer Service :( On March 15th, 2019, (a week after my initial stay), I had sent 3 separate emails associated with the Allen Hotel's customer service, however, I have not received a response. Therefore, although I have never written a negative review prior to this one, I feel it is important to warn other potential guests who are looking to stay at the Allen Hotel so they do not find themselves in the same situation as myself. After researching various hotels throughout Manhatten, Jersey City, and Brooklyn, I finally decided to book a "Deluxe King Room" off of "TheAllenHotel.com" for my boyfriend's 27th birthday on March 6th, 2019. Unfortunately the gorgeous balcony rooms were sold out, however, I felt there was nothing comparable to the Allen Hotel's "floor to ceiling windows, Brazilian cherry wood floors, and a sleek walk-in marble shower" which is advertised on the hotel's website, (please see screenshot here: https://screencast.com/t/Pz4Iy1Ao ) After hours of research, I was initially very happy with my decision to stay at the Allen Hotel, and couldn't wait to check in! I read many reviews before booking; most reviews were positive with customers raving about the friendly staff, perfect location and large rooms considering we were in Manhatten. However, a few of the negative reviews reported damaged furniture, thin walls, and limited space. One review, in particular, reported the first floor not having windows, which was extremely alarming to me as a window with a view of the city is the main reason I would stay in Manhatten, (we live in northern jersey and travel to the city frequently, but do not often book hotels). I chose to ignore these negative reviews as there was a very small percentage of them and decided to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt. Upon arrival, the hotel looked gorgeous - beautiful antique furniture, tall ceilings, an adorable cafe for breakfast and even free street parking! As we checked into our room at the front desk, I noticed our room number was "104", which meant we were on the first floor. I asked the front desk if there were windows in this room and the receptionist said no. I immediately explained I was extremely disappointed and asked if there was anything she could do, however, the hotel was sold out. The receptionist apologized and suggested booking a room with a balcony next time... Once inside our room, I was extremely frustrated and upset to say the very least. I felt the Allen Hotel's website falsely advertised the "floor to ceiling windows," as not all "Deluxe King Rooms" have this "luxurious" feature. In replacement of a window, our curtains revealed a giant mirror. It felt extremely claustrophobic and uncomfortable. There seemed to be a small vent or window in the top right corner of the mirror which opened about 2 inches leading into the cafeteria. The walls were so thin that we were awoken around 3 AM to the sounds of another guest vomiting very loudly from a room next to us for about 20 minutes. Between 6-7 AM, we woke up again to the sounds of pots and pans from the cafeteria as the staff prepared breakfast. Although the staff was extremely friendly, the room was clean, and both the breakfast and location of the Allen Hotel were fantastic, I honestly would have never booked this room if I had known this was a possibility of receiving a room without a window. I feel that if there are a selected number of rooms that do not have a window, the hotel should be transparent about this vital detail beforehand so other guests will not find themselves in the same situation as myself. I also feel it's very strange that the Deluxe King rooms with windows are the same price as those without since the quality of each room was completely different. Is there something that can be done to prevent this from happening to other guests? Please take caution. read more

False advertising and loud. Very pleased that the front desk was able to accommodate us at such short notice. Concerned that that our room on the 2nd floor felt like we were sleeping in the lobby. The constant banging, the loud music, and the noise made this is really bad experience not to mention the guest who were in the lobby; I can tell you verbatim what they were talking about because it was so loud! The shame of it was when I mentioned all of these things to the staff they did nothing but offer a smile. The view was just ok. I wish the staff cared more. I stayed at The Allen Hotel overnight on Thursday December 13th, 2018. The hotel is conveniently located near the B/D train at the Grand street subway stop and in the Chinatown area. My reservation was for a king suite and I was not disappointed upon arrival. I called to confirm the reservation that morning and spoke with David the hotel manager. The room was not only ready way before the 3:00 p.m. check-in but David made sure I got the corner suite. Upon check-in David greeted me at the front desk. The hotel is very new, under 2 years old. The decor has a tasteful Asian theme. The lobby, elevator, hallway and room were all very clean. I was beyond happy with the terrace connected to my suite which was spacious and cozy. This place was ok - clean, small room but well organized with lots of drawers and cupboards to put your stuff in. The only place to sit in the room is your bed and the lobby isn't really comfortable. The noise coming from the hall, neighbors and outside was loud. read more

I have stayed here multiple times practically since the day the hotel opened, and have made it my NYC HQ. Here's why: 1. The staff (David, Jimmy and the rest) couldn't be friendlier, or try harder. 2. As everyone has pointed out - it's brand new. That means a few kinks here and there, but again this is not the Ritz, nor is it intended to be. 3. Location. From Congee Village for late-night Mandarin to the Meatball Shop a few blocks away, you can't beat it. And there are several major subway line choices. 4. The decor: It's kinda funny, and the ultimate Pan-Asian hodge podge. But the spirit of that makes it funky. 5. The breakfast downstairs in a pinch. Perfectly serviceable and the price is right on a cold or super hot/humid day. 6. The prices: Make sure you investigate all options (direct, online, etc.) - it's still reasonable for NYC and really the only other option in this range is a 5th floor walk-up Airbnb on the L.E.S. 7. Danny has taken care of us! He has stepped up as a manager and made sure our reservation for this hotel was booked. It was a very smooth transition. Danny is a very well spoken, nice and understanding person. I could not ask for anyone better to talk to for booking up my stay here. I was going through something tonight and Danny has heard us out fully and was very well understanding. He has went above and beyond for us and I hope it's recognized by the owner. read more

I would really like my money back regarding my stay last night at the Allen hotel. I live in NYC. My apartment had a gas leak so I booked the closest thing possible last minute. Upon arrival, the person at the front desk couldn't find my booking, even though it was confirmed On booking.com. It took about 20 minutes to clear that up at 12:30 am. When we got up to the room it was absolutely FREEZING. I tried turning it off but nothing worked and when I called the front desk there was no answer. There was an interesting stain on the sheet that I couldn't recognize, when I called down for new sheets no one picked up (I am assuming it's because it was late but still). I am really upset with my stay and just wanted to feel comfortable while my apartment is unavailable. read more

Beautiful, clean, friendly hotel. Stayed on the 7th floor in a king balcony room (highly recommend). The 7th floor only has 2 rooms so it was very quiet and pleasant. Comfortable bed and pillows, nice shower. Bathroom included toiletries that most hotels don't (tooth brush, tooth paste, nail filer, q-tips, shower cap) just to name a few. Coffee maker and mini fridge in room. Would definitely recommend this hotel read more

So, I am writing this now from another hotel room at 2:30am because I was just kicked out of the Allen Hotel due to a new vaccination "law" for hotels. I was able to easily book a reservation through one of their partner sites & as of today, nowhere on the site does it state that vaccination is required for check-in. I explained to the front desk person that I'm here bc of a family emergency & that I just moved out of apartment last minute & had nowhere else to go at this time of night. He talked over me most of the time & told me it does me no good to "come at him". When I asked where am I supposed to sleep at 2am - his answer was "I don't know." Told me I could call the manager tomorrow. He then went back to speaking loudly & happily on the phone with his friend as I'm standing in the lobby trying to figure out what to do with myself. Zero empathy. Terrible customer service skills. Proved my point by letting me know this "happened to another guy earlier". Well, common sense would say that their website & any affiliated sites should be updated so that this doesn't keep happening to guests. Especially since this has" been in effect for a week." Funny that 3 other hotels in the area were ready & willing to book my reservation right away. I suppose they are all lawbreakers? This was extremely disappointing as I'd already had a physically and emotionally draining day, and then had to spend more time & energy dealing with this nonsense when I wanted nothing more than just to sleep! I hope someone quickly teaches this man child how to properly handle special circumstances. I chose this hotel because of its good reviews. Sadly, this experience has left me disgusted and even upon vaccination I would never return. read more

Bathroom had a reeking urine smell our entire stay. We asked the hotel service to clean it but the smell came back after just a day. Hotel room was fine. read more
