DO NOT RENT FROM ACE RENT A CAR!!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!! This was one of the worst rental car experiences I've ever had. I booked through a third-party website, and the total shown to me at booking was $97. What I ended up dealing with was completely different. At pickup, I was pressured into adding gas coverage that I did not want. I was also charged a $300 deposit, which I was told would be returned. I have still not received my deposit back. Then, instead of the $97 I originally booked for, I ended up being charged nearly $500. After all of this, I was told they would give me around $250 back -- which still does not explain why I was charged so much in the first place. The absolute worst part is trying to get help afterward. You cannot get anyone on the phone. When a company takes hundreds of dollars from you and then becomes nearly impossible to reach, that is completely unacceptable. The entire experience felt deceptive, from the unexpected charges to the deposit situation to the lack of customer service afterward. I booked expecting a $97 rental and walked away dealing with charges approaching $500 and a deposit that I still haven't received back. I realized the charge the next day, so I called corporate and was given the runaround. They only gave me a partial refund, so I now need to file a chargeback for the rest. I found out the agents get credit for their upsells so make sure you're checking your receipt before you leave because they're stealing from customers! Avoid ACE Rental Car at the Tampa Airport location.** I purchased the optional insurance coverage when I rented the vehicle, which I was told included up to **$1,000 in windshield damage coverage**. When I returned the car with a cracked windshield, the employee checking the vehicle back in told me it **should be covered** under the protection plan. A short time later, I received an email from **Rockport Auto Claims** in Texas claiming I owed additional money. The appraisal they sent showed **more than $1,800 in damages** for a cracked windshield on a Nissan Altima. In my opinion, the appraisal was grossly inflated and did not accurately reflect the actual damage. I disputed the appraisal and informed them that I believed it was fraudulent. Despite my dispute and despite having purchased the additional coverage, they proceeded to file a claim with my personal auto insurance company. Based on my experience, the handling of this claim has been completely unacceptable. I have filed complaints with the **Florida Attorney General** regarding ACE Rental Car and with the **Texas Attorney General** regarding Rockport Auto Claims, and I intend to continue pursuing the matter through the appropriate regulatory agencies. If you're considering renting from ACE at the Tampa Airport, I strongly recommend reading the fine print and understanding exactly how damage claims are handled before signing anything. If I could give this 0 stars I would. I had one experience with this place with no problems, the next was nothing short of a nightmare. Do not, I repeat do not rent from this place. They are scamming people left and right. When I returned the car, it was in perfect condition. Four days later, I received an email from the company they use for damage/ claims - Rockport Claims regarding the vehicle's damage. The damage claimed was damage to the windshield. The photos they provided showed specs of dirt/bird poop on the windshield that they claimed as damaged, worth replacing the windshield at a staggering $1500. This whole situation has been extremely frustrating and upsetting to say the least. I took photos of when I picked up the vehicle, and I have a video of when I returned it. And yes, there are those marks on the windshield but it is dirt, NOT DAMAGE?! After thoroughly looking at the paperwork provided by Rockport claims, the company Ace used to do the appraisal for damage seems to be a fake/fraudulent company. They also did the appraisal in Fort Lauderdale, 3 hours away from Tampa days after I returned the vehicle. The paperwork provided by the appraiser has the wrong dates, I have tried every number provided on their paperwork and spent time looking into the company, and none of the 3 phone numbers I found on my own research work. I searched the address; it does not exist. The business address is a PO Box on the paperwork, and when you look up the company used the address is actually someone's apartment. I saw from another person's review, this has happened before at this exact location for the exact thing. Unfortunately, everyone I have reached out to at the company over the past month has not been helpful and has been unresponsive. I have been practically harassed by Rockport claims for weeks over this fraudulent claim. They then proceeded to try and get additional money from my car insurance company, in addition to the coverage on my CC (which it was fully covered), which I did not give them permission to proceed with. I will be reporting Ace Rent a Car, Rockport Claims, and Coastal Appraisal South to the Better Business Bureau for fraud and scam. read more

My experience at ACE was so easy. It's part of the airport so the train took you directly to the location. The staff was patient and kind. The car was newer and fuel efficient. Deceptive and Shady. I booked on priceline- paid in person. 588.00 for a 3 week rental. I agreed verbally to the amount (same as priceline) then i added my husband as a driver- at no point did he tell me it would cost more to add him (otherwise i definitely wouldn't have) i signed for everything on an i- pad. There was no dollar amount on what i signed, i just assumed they were honest. But when i got my final bill and it was 928.00, which was way more than the Priceline quote. They added a bunch of fees, and 299.00 to add a driver. You can tell by looking at the rental agreement that there was not an amount by my signature. They added that in later... on top of that, they're trying to hit me with 1800.00 claim saying i curbed a tire! (I didn't, but if i did I would be honest- unlike these crooks) The damage was likely already there, my mistake was not taking a picture of the entire car before I left. Stay away! I rented from here early morning January 23, 2026. I gave 3 stars because the car was nice and clean as well as the staff in the garage where you pick up the car. It lacks the other 2 stars due to the rude, rude man who was in the "office." Very poor attitude, talked to me as if it pained him to do so. Couldn't wait to get away from him. Luck has it, I needed to rent for an additional day, called Ace, and unless they have another rude man working there, he answered the phone...once again rude. Oh and the extra day cost me almost as much as the original rental 1/23 to 1/26 $98, included all fees, 1/27 $70 plus fees!!!!I would not recommend this rental company based on these 2 factors. read more

Someone recently posted a photo of the same working in the last 30 days who tried to bullshit me. I came down with my wife for 5 days and being I go to Florida often I have my own sunpass. He tried to tell me I could not use it and had to use their tolling device no explained that is factually wrong and illegal tactic. He would not back down and said the plate was tied into the Florida state dmv. I said that's great but you are incorrect and I work for a major insurance carrier plus I worked for enterprise for years. I also wasn't going to take their insurance so he wanted proof of my insurance. What I didn't realize at the time was my policy was renewing in the middle of my rental so I had to call my agent to get my new digital policy card 3 days early or he wasn't going to give me the car. They lie and use deceptive tactics on renters. DO NOT rent here. Spend the redrew money at a reputable company. Even more than guy was all hot and bothered because he knew I saw through his BS so I tried to de-escalate the situation and make small talk and he was even more of a jerk. I just went through getting a car at Tampa, FL location. The absolute worst experience renting cars, ever. First time ever I was asked for a proof of insurance. Usually a name of the insurance company suffices. The agent named Andy was incredibly rude to me, rude to my husband who was assisting me on the phone, and refused to speak to him. He also refused to specify what kind of a document would satisfy him. He refused to give his last name and prevented me from taking a picture. The supervisor was equally unhelpful. We are insured with Travelers, and it took my husband 15 minutes on the phone with an agent to get a document with my name. We only booked with this company because the rate was ok, and they are located at the airport, not offsite. Don't make our mistake! They are doing this obviously because they want to charge an extra $20 a day for liability insurance. This is a scam. read more

If I could give zero, I would - I paid for this rental with expedia rewards. When I picked it up, I had 3 add ons - Gas, Toll and Phys damage. All this was $400!!! But, They ended up charging me more than the car rental for hidden charges!! Concession recovery fee - $70 - This is what they get charged for being in airport itself. Tire & windshield coverage -$60! I already have physical damageand never mentioned it!! Addl driver husband (no one else charges for this) $74.95+ . Then a random $78 bucks they cant explain but said its gas tax - I prepaid for gas at 66.42 - Now add $78. OMG' PLEASE READ I believe I was scammed by ACE rental car in Mpls. When I picked up my car the agent (a young guy) was standing in at the back of the car with the trunk open as id he were a chauffeur, which I thought was odd because I've rented several cars ans never seen such a thing. I also had a small carry on that could go in the front seat. We chatted about Minn etc and I got the car and left. When I return the car on May 25th a different young guy was standing waiting as I pulled in and as soon as I opened the door he said "Do you know how YOU scratched the front of the car?" I was so puzzled and shocked I was certain I didn't scratch the car an any way! Long story short I signed off on the paperwork they said they be in contact etc. Nope they reported it immediately to my insurance, I spoke with the insurance adjuster and made it clear I wanted to fight this and asked Ace to pull the camera for the pick up/ drop off and they never did. My insurance company paid them because I had sign the paperwork with ACE they couldn't do anything. I now have a bill for $700 on top of the $1600 my insurance company paid and my monthly payments for car insurance has gone up $80 more a month. Also ACE reported me to collections so I'm being harassed and staked by KMS. What a shakedown!! read more

Ace Rent a Car in Tampa makes you bring in a statement of your current car insurance (your insurance card is not enough) and then you must have a certain amount of collision coverage or they will not rent to you. By the way this is not a Florida law if you were an out-of-state resident this is not required this is a requirement of Ace. I always use my own insurance out of never had to buy additional coverage so although the price may seem reasonable you better call them in advance and find out if the insurance you have meets their requirements or you will have to pay them extra. read more

Specifically, first off they very aggressively try to up sell you on insurance, for example not accepting your company proof of insurance card, saying that isn't definitive proof. Next, I called because my flight was late, I spoke to a gentleman who assured me they would extend the reservation the needed four hours, when I showed up they said no one called and there is no record of the call and if I had called, there would be a record. This is a company with a management style of gouging in the short term rather than looking to long term relations. The guys there when we returned it even confirmed there were no issues. 1 week later their insurance department calls us as said we returned the car with broken glass from the windshield leaving glass pieces everywhere. This was total B.S. So, the contract we signed since using our car insurance says a deposit of $200.00 was required, which we totally understand and signed. The guy who helped me get my paperwork going was insanely pushy and getting me to upgrade and pay for more insurance. At one point he told me there was "no chance" my insurance would be acceptable, and that it would be required for me to pay for more (which was proven to be untrue once I pulled up my policy). Then when I wouldn't take the car upgrade he insinuated that the car I would be given was poor quality, which is an odd move for a car rental service. I paid for the "unlimited tolls" package just so he would leave me alone and stop hounding me for $20 extra dollars at a time. After a long travel day this was the worst possible guy to deal with. I would have preferred to rate it o but they did give me a car. I booked a car from ACE through Expedia. When I arrived at the Tampa Rental Counter the Person I dealt with was less than friendly. As I filled out the rental form he demanded I provide Proof of Personal Liability or I would be charged per day for it. This was a first. No car rental company ever asked for Personal Liability coverage. Biting the bullet... mad...Who carries with them Proof of Personal Liability? The card sits in my auto glovebox. Next I get to the car. I check the license plate number and feed it into my Florida Sunpass App so that I can use the toll road. The reply comes back that the auto has unpaid toll violations from January. I go back to the rental office. They say they can do nothing about it...call Corporate or pay for a Sunpass transponder. A stock answer from everyone at this location is "CALL CORPORATE". I again bite the bullet. Later I contacted "corporate customer care" and got the run around about their contract agreement when I rented the vehicle through Expedia. I checked the contract terms--no mention of needing to provide or pay for Personal Liability Insurance. My opinion given what I believe to be the less than honest ways you get taken for additional costs after renting is do not ever rent from ACE. I have rented from "big name" car companies for most of my car rental experiences, but I decided to give ACE a try based on price and my knowledge of car rental procedures and policies. The cost to rent a 7 person van from ACE on Maui was HALF the price as Budget (which was the lowest price COSTCO offered). I knew ACE was not going to provide me a brand new van, so I tempered my expectations. The van was fine for what we needed, and in fact, because it wasn't new and shiny, I didn't panic about getting sand in the van, which we did... a lot! The van was reliable and easy to drive. I will say, the agent at check out did want to see proof of coverage, but I was expecting that. Some people rent cars on Maui and trash them by stupidly deciding to take the Road to Hana. The rental company has to look out for its own interests. I respect that. If you just want a car to get you around and don't want to pay a fortune, check out ACE or other brands. My experience with ACE was an absolute nightmare. This company and my experience was a disaster. Horrible customer service, shady billing practices, and zero accountability. Save yourself the stress and frustration and rent from literally anywhere else!! I was waiting in line, when the customer finally finished she looked at me and mumbled "ugh what horrible service". When I finally reached the desk, the agent was rude and condescending. He asked for my name and I usually say it first then spell it since it's uncommon. He rudely interrupted me demanding that I say my name. Saying "I need to HEAR you say it!" Wow! Then when he offered us a larger car and when I started to ask what the cost difference was he cut me off mid-question and snapped, "If you let me finish, I will tell you!" Definitely not the customer service I expected. Next he asked I wanted to pre-purchase a half-tank of gas. I agree, but after charging my credit card, he suddenly canceled the transaction claiming my credit card name did match my driver's license. It did match and I showed him. He said ok and told me to put my card in the card reader again. More frustration! After that awful experience, I later noticed two separate charges to the pre-purchase gas on my credit card on-line statement. I tried calling ACE to remove the additional charge. After waiting 1 hour (seriously - on speaker as I worked) there was no answer. Then I used their website to chat and explain the extra charge. The representative said he would follow up with the local Tampa agent. A day later I received an email stating the local agent told him I was only charged once. Not true. Later that day I called my Credit Card company and explained the issue. They confirmed I was charged twice (it was not pending it was POSTED) I'll say it again - This company and experience is a disaster. I had never heard of ACE car rental prior to renting from them in the Tampa airport. And now I know to NEVER rent from them again! I had reserved the car ahead of time but was not able to pay online like all the other cars that I have rented before. I found that a little odd but didn't think much of it until we arrived. The reason is due to all the up sales that they try to do. We told them we did not want the unlimited toll package as we knew we would not be going over but 1 toll bridge and the rep started to get ugly. He became extremely angry and hateful when he went through all the up sales and we told him no but especially on buying their insurance. He would not take a No for an answer until I finally told him that I have insurance and do not want his on top of it! Hours after returning the car we receive an email stating that we did not pay the toll fee and per our agreement we were charged $18.63 for a $2.08 toll. Thankfully, I had my receipt and responded back with proof. Still waiting to see if they reverse the charges or try to pull anything else! Rented from here for 8 days through priceline, and everything went well. I was hesitant because of some of the negative reviews, and there lower price compared to some of the more name brand places. If you go in with the following knowledge then you can get one of the best deals in car rental. First, If you want to avoid getting the insurance then just bring a copy of yours showing full coverage. Second the sunpass is optional. Just put avoid tolls on your Google map and you'll be fine. Third take a video of the car when you get it and mark any imperfection on the sheet they give you. I should have known better. Why didn't I know better? Never go with the cheapest rate - somehow and someway you will always end up paying more in the end or getting low quality service or something else. There is always a catch. We're getting hit by a hurricane and yesterday morning my flight got cancelled. Yikes! And my car is in the shop so I figure I would go to Orlando for a couple days to wait this thing out since I live by the water. I rent the car through UberRental and bring my drivers license and insurance, all standard stuff. I was even planning on getting the supplemental insurance in case a tree branch feel on the car due to high winds. I go to the airport and to the Ace Rental counter. I show them my license and insurance. Everything fine so far. Then they hit me with "do you have electric bill or water bill." I tell them no, the water is paid for by the building and electric is in my roommate's name. I ask them if there is anything else, and they say no, those are the only two they will accept. I've never heard of such a thing in my life, even when I rented a car in Canada. So now I'm stuck in Tampa and today (the next day) thank god the hurricane will not have a direct hit because I was trapped. But it gets better, they won't give me a refund. Ace Rental says I have to get a refund from Uber (3rd party). But Uber says I have to get it from Ace. So I didn't get the car and no refund. I can only imagine being stuck in a storm surge, on my roof, because I didn't have a utility bill to rent a car. I thought maybe I was crazy but I went to the other counters of the bigger car companies to ask if they require that (maybe I was going crazy) and they laughed and said no.
