Achilles Coffee in the Carmel Valley area has become one of those coffee shops I can always count on. It's consistently clean, quick, and most importantly, the coffee is excellent. What really makes this location stand out, though, is the staff. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely personable. They remember an impressive number of regular customers by both name and order, which gives the place a neighborhood coffee-shop feel that's becoming harder to find. Natalie especially deserves recognition. She's consistently outstanding, friendly, attentive, personable, and always makes you feel welcome rather than like you're simply the next order in line. Great coffee gets you through the door, but employees like Natalie are what keep you coming back. The location itself is always clean, there's plenty of outdoor seating, and parking is incredibly easy. Between the consistently great coffee, quick service, and staff who actually care about their customers, Achilles is easily one of my go-to coffee spots in the area. read more

We came here around 8a during Comicon week and boy, was it packed! The line was out the door. Despite it being so busy, the line moved fairly quickly. The staff was nice and the system for ordering drinks and food were efficient. The drinks were as they should be- well balanced and the food (we ordered breakfast burritos and bagels) were also good. They have very minimal inside seating and more outdoor seating. Overall, a friendly environment and would come back the next time I am in town. read more

I visited the Carmel Valley location (although they are several locations across San Diego) on a Sunday morning around 8:30am, and there was already a line + people dining in. The menu and variety of goods/drinks offered is what I love most. There are so many drink variations but remaining true to coffee purism with earthy, natural modifications. I ordered the El Cortez (Cold brew with Brown sugar, mint, cardamom, and silk cream) and Lox bagel (can't remember the exact name). My boyfriend ordered the Three Sisters Matcha drink (ceremonial grade matcha tea, lemonade, and simple syrup) and an egg scramble dish with sourdough toast. Everything was 10/10!!! read more

DELICIOUS coffee. It never misses the mark. I have heard very good reviews about their bagels but haven't had the chance to try them yet. I have had their pistachio latte in the past and their blueberry bliss which is the current seasonal drink. Both were REALLY good. Their baristas however are very rude. I really wanted to like this place. carmel valley needs a good coffee spot and this was a cool location for it because it's big, comfortable, indoor and outdoor seating, lots of people working and hanging out but the drinks just didn't do it for me. I asked the barista for a recommendation and ordered what she suggested, the east village (cold brew with vanilla cold foam and caramel drizzle). it tasted overly sweet and artificial to me, even though the syrups are housemade. it actually made me feel sick after. i wanted to order the el cortez but they were out of mint syrup so maybe i missed my window on the better order? my friend got the julien (house made vanilla syrup with orange sweet cold foam). she thought it was fine but said she wouldn't go out of her way to come back for it. food was fine! My new favorite coffee spot! I like to try new places for coffee. I'm no aficionado, but I do like a good flavored coffee that's not too sweet and not filled with just store bought syrups. Achilles gave me just that. I got a windnsea cold brew concoction, with oat milk. One of the things I don't like about iced coffee is how watery it gets. At Achilles I got a pint glass full of coffee, just enough ice and topped with a cold foam. The chocolate was creamy and delicious and even though I took my time drinking it, even the last sip wasn't watery. I am gluten free so couldn't try it, but was excited to see they serve NY bagels delivered from NY!! If you are a NYer this is amazing. I didn't get to try one though so you'll have to come in for yourself and see if they are good. Lastly, the customer service we received from Chris and Sabrina was great. Went there for the first time yesterday. $5 Guatemala pour over coffee was a generous portion. It was slightly under extracted, but I can taste subtle flavors of actual coffee without the harsh after taste (which is present in a competitor pour over big chain coffee shop down the street). I think the portion size was great and the ingredients tasted very fresh. I think this is a great sandwich with relatively good value. It definitely tasted better than expected since I wasn't sure how good a sandwich would be at a coffee place - I was definitely pleasantly surprised! The staff was super friendly, and this turned out to be such a great spot to study and work. They have lots of indoor seating as well as some outdoor tables. The atmosphere was lively, and I had a latte along with a jalapeño red pepper bagel with cream cheese--both were delicious. Loved the ambiance of this place. It's small, cute, and modern. Also, bonus points for having a parking lot. Both the food and drinks were delicious. We got the Honey Cinnamon Latte with Coconut Milk and Finest City which is pretty similar but has vanilla, cinnamon, and cream. The Cove is a lox bagel and the Acai bowl had really delicious granola. I have been a fan of Achilles Coffee Roasters since their inception and continue to support their expansion. At this location, I had a cortado, properly served on a gibraltar glass container. It was very smooth and rich in coffee flavor. It was well balanced. With the cortado, I had a toasted sesame bagel with butter and a fig jam. The bagel was very good and came with a good toast. The fig jam was lighter than I expected and tasty. It was a very good bagel, too. I liked the chew that it offered. The service was friendly and quick. First time at Achilles Coffee Roasters. The space is nice, minimalist but with some fun colors all around. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating along with a large menu for a cafe. The food: - The strand, Ham, havarti, tomato, on toasted sourdough. Large sandwich , definitely enough for two. - Tourmaline - avocado, heirloom tomato and arugula on sourdough. I was a little disappointed the tomatoes were served as giant slices as they didn't botter to cut them. It made it a little awkward to eat. The tomatoes are amazing though! Their matcha latte with oat milk was really good as well. When I ordered my food their cook was on lunch, they did give me a heads up and told me he would be back in 10 mins. What a great addition to Carmel Valley! We love Achilles coffee and have been to other locations but this one is great for a coffee and breakfast! We love their menu. Chilaquiles is a favorite of ours and a new addition to their menu. They nailed it! So good!! We also love the Encinitas sandwich and the hillcrest. The breakfast burrito is also excellent! They have some amazing pour over coffee options too as well as a variety of teas. It was a busy morning with a line to the door but after we ordered we got our food and drinks quickly. I'm love Ahillies coffee in Solana beach and I'm glad to see that the old location of The Coffee Bean in CM was finally converted to Achiller Coffee. This location is quite larger with a outdoor patio and plenty indoor seating as well. The menu is pretty extensive covering all the breakfast staples, such as bagels, egg scrambles, breakfast Burritos, French Toast, Pancakes, and waffles. The shop is designed with a minimalist aesthetic, large windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the space, making it feel bright and airy. Baristas are friendly and helpful. This is a much-needed addition to Carmel Valley's lackluster coffee scene. I'm hoping they are here to stay. read more
