Came on national donut day which landed on a Fri this year. The shop was busy but line moved fast. I got the strawberry buttermilk and a latte this time. The texture on these donuts is still 10/10. I think the flavor fell a little short this time. The "strawberry" donut component barely had any strawberry pieces. If you walk past The Melt, which is right down the street from Sidecar, there are plenty of shopping options, grocery stores, and other places to explore. I've always been around this plaza and have wanted to try Sidecar, but unfortunately my experience wasn't the best. The staff wasn't the friendliest, and I felt like you had to know exactly what you wanted right away. It was also a little confusing figuring out where the line started because there were so many people gathered around the donut display, and there wasn't really a clear line. They do have samples available, but it's somewhat hidden on the far left side near the kitchen counter. I'm not sure why they don't have it more visible for guests, but I was able to try their blueberry donut, which I thought was really good. The texture was amazing and the donut itself was super soft, but I did feel like it was a little too sweet with the amount of sugar and icing. Overall, I think the donuts are good, but I'm not sure I would come back. At around $5 to $6 per donut, it's definitely on the pricier side. It's a nice treat if you're already in the area and want to stop by, but I would hope that my next experience would be better with the staff and that the layout of the shop would feel a little more organized. read more

Found myself on a rare trek to N County today and that was a good excuse to finally try this hyped donut spot. I really liked the setup, where you can clearly see all the different donut varieties arrayed upon an outer ring counter while servers on the inner ring efficiently dish up donuts to the guests in line. The options were diverse, so I chose a six pack including chocolate, huckleberry, blueberry cheesecake and vegan Samoa. My favorite was the blueberry cheesecake since it was a lighter, yeast donut and contained a generous blueberry compote filling with a fresh tasting cream topping. Unfortunately, the other donuts weren't to my liking since they all featured dense, cakey and slightly dry crumbs which made me feel like I was eating a sweet bread instead of a light and fluffy donut. Can't knock Sidecar too much for my donut texture personal preference, but at $30 for a half dozen, I was expecting to enjoy more than just one out of six. read more

You know what's a great way to end a busy night? Grabbing some sidecar donuts. My friend and I arrive pretty late after dinner and yet there was still a good amount of donuts available to choose from. The small shop was busy and had a decent crowd, but the service was so good that everyone was taken care of relatively quickly. I got a variety of donuts and so did my friend, everything looked mouthwatering (despite us being full from dinner). Great service by Aadan! Came with a small kid who he offered some Sidecar stickers to. I know that's not a thing to hand these labels out but every kid loves stickers! I was also debating the size of chocolate milk for my kid and ordered small and got confirmation from Aadan that small would be the ideal choice for kids. Excellent iced Banana Bread Latte. Couldn't detect any banana bread flavor to it but as someone who does not like standard "plain" lattes, it was good coffee! Kid inhaled a Vanilla Bean Glazed and I had the Blueberry Cheesecake doughnut (both yeast doughnuts) for lunch (yes for lunch!) and I usually do not like eating more than a quarter of a doughnut even as dessert. I was hesitant to get the Blueberry Cheesecake because I saw the giant blob of cream on top but it was more like whip cream than actual cheesecake and sweet enough to compliment a doughnut without being heavy and overly sweet like actual cheesecake. I also like the dollop of blueberry preserves on top. The yeast doughnut was plump airy goodness. We didn't need it, but I appreciate that this shop always has free cold water available for guests. We have tried different flavors by now and each time there is something unique along with the classic and traditional flavors we have come to love. Their butter and salt is so simple but delicious. my husband who usually does not like donuts, was happy with this flavor. my daughter likes their chocolate celebration donut. All the donuts have a higher quality to them than the typical pink box cheap donuts, normally I'd taste a lingering sugary flavor after eating donuts, but I don't get that with these. Halloween afternoon, Sidecar was offering free donuts to people dressed in costumes. As a single person ordering donuts, followed by a large group of young people, I was lost in the shuffle. From there, the process was fairly smooth. Waiting for my espresso drink was also hectic as there was little room to stand and once called to the counter, it felt like pushing through people to get there. For 2 donuts and a 12 oz coffee, our tab was $16.00 before tip. This price felt steep for the a small order. The donuts were good. They are made in-site in small batches so they were fresh. The coffee was also good though not complicated: shot of decaf and hot water. We sat outside, facing a busy parking lot,. Limited seating. Not a particularly enjoyable experience.
