We love Middle Eastern food and *usually* it is good at Achilles--we live close by, so we've gone several times. My issue is that they are inconsistent -- sometimes the falafel is moist and delicious, sometimes it's kind of dry. Sometimes the chicken schwarma salad plate is great, sometimes it's very very salty. The people are nice, I remember that during the pandemic they lowered prices for folks who needed it -- that shows a real sense of community, to me. But they are not my #1 choice for Mediterranean food. read more

This is a must if you are looking for good Mediterranean food to go. My partner and I stopped here after my class. We were super hungry and found this place on yelp. It's is located in a small plaza with plenty of parking. They have a couple of items on the menu to pick and choose from. You can also customize a lot of your items. I ordered the gyro wrap which was delicious and filled with lots of meat. I asked to have it with hummus, baba ghanouj, taztziki sauce, tomatoes, pickles, cucumbers, olives, and their spicy sauce. This wrap was very filling and the flavors all complimented each other. My partner is a vegetarian and ordered the falafel wrap. He loved it and devoured the whole wrap. We shared a small order of the waffle fries which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Very happy with the service and food. Very delicious food! We came here on Tuesday to grab lunch and there's no wait! The staff was very friendly. I ordered the beef gyro plate with coleslaw, cucumber, tomato, hummus, and tzatziki sauce, they were extremely fresh and delicious! My husband got a combo plate (Achilles chicken and beef gyro) with Baba Ghanouj, Achilles Spread, cucumber, tomato, and pickle, yummy as well but I like my plate more. I don't know how this place has so many five stars. Something is fishy. The first thing you'll notice when you interact with this place is how stingy they are with everything, from the food to the point of sale. The inside has no seating, and is filled with random junk. Okay, I'll forgive it if the food is good. Then you look at the menu. You can pick some proteins. Getting the food in a plate costs $2.50 extra, which is weird, because the plates are tiny. See the picture. The proteins. The menu claims they have beef gyro and chicken shawarma. But the "chicken shawarma" is not really chicken shawarma, it's some under-grilled chicken they take out of a metal container. There is no chicken shawarma gyro in the back. The beef gyro is also not cut from the gyro, but served from another metal container. It tastes like generic supermarket gyro strips. The rice. It's yellow and it's a very small portion. Not much to say other than I was still hungry afterwards. The hummus. They just filled half of the plate with supermarket hummus. They don't even provide pita bread, so you just eat it with a spoon. Such a weird experience. In the end, on top of the overpriced cost of $18.25 for a plate with 2 proteins (very little of each, and poor quality), they also sneak in a 4% "service charge" for using a credit card. This is in violation of their credit card agreement. I ended up paying over $20 for a tiny, tasteless portion of food I could get at a Safeway food bar. Maybe it's changed management since all these reviews were written. Stay far away from this place, it's on its way out. read more

They failed to put all the toppings I requested in my pita. Overall, I think this place is okay, but not worth the money spent. I do not think I'll be returning. The pita bread itself was good, nice and soft. We added tomatoes, cucumbers, hummus, and tzatziki (we requested lettuce and feta too but they didn't add it). The mix-ins were not very flavorful I felt, they do not season the veggies with salt or anything and make the bread kinda soggy. The tzatziki and hummus however were pretty good and were the only ingredients that made the plate decent. Chicken also didn't have much flavor but was cooked well. The food here got authentic greek style, mainly the Achilles chicken, I'd recommend having the Achilles chicken instead of regular shawarma and consider eating with the salad. Very Delicious and the service is fast too. More like you get to pick your toppings on your plate. They also have outdoor seating close to the road and signal, gets a little noisy but its fine during lunch time with the group. In my ongoing quest for for good falafel in the south bay, Achilles had come highly recommended by a Yelp fave. Like it's sister restaurant Araklis, the falafel here was most excellent (9/10). And the balls were indeed heart-shaped, as advertised in so many pics. (The engineer part of me wonders if this has something to do with maximizing surface area...?). Unfortunately I was not as enamored with the vibe and space here as I was with its sister restaurant. Achilles was located in a smally, semi-seedy strip mall. The seating was limited, and the service was on the grumpy side (for 3 of my 4 visits). The seating was outside-only, where they had speakers playing either local radio or Middle Eastern music. Typically the volume was low, but on one visit they were blaring static-ridden top 40 radio so loudly I had to finish my lunch in my car. No bueno. I tried falafel in both forms, the "plate" and the wrap. The plate was a bit of a dissapointment - no pita or other bread included to go with the side dollop of hummus/dip, so I stuck with the wrap after that. It took a few visits to dial in the right order. (I initially found the option of both a "spread" and a "sauce" to be confusing). Unfortunately their wrap is not as packed with falafel as the one from their sister restaurant, though it was still delicious. Note: For garlic lovers, the Achilles Spread is worth a try (though I found it a little too sweet and oily). My only other nit with Achilles was the lack of dinnerware and silverware. e.g. their "plates" were served in a styrofoam clamshell; and forks were plastic. Get a dishwasher guys! But if good falafel is the goal, these guys definitely hit it out of the park. 5 stars for that, with one star off for the aforementioned shortcomings. read more

I don't typically like Mediterranean food but this was actually pretty good. I liked the falafel with the Achilles spread, and I guess the heart shape was cool lol. The beef was good but the chicken was just ok to me. Next time I'll try the chicken shawarma. The Achilles spread, hummus, spicy and tzatziki sauces were great! ...but the baba ganouj was definitely not my cup of tea hahaha. Everything is complimentary with your dish, but I do notice that they tend to be a bit inconsistent with their portions. For example, my rice plate had much more hummus than my boyfriend's rice plate. My favorite was the Achilles Spread! I can see why it's their house specialty. It's very creamy, fluffy, and tangy. My favorite place to grab a quick and delicious bite when in the area. There is a small parking lot, so we try to come during non-peak hours and have never had an issue getting parking. I like how you can order exactly what you want and how you want it, as opposed to other places where they aren't as flexible about sauces and stuff. The only bad thing about this place, is that everything is sooooo good and flavorful that I find myself having a difficult time deciding what to order. The interior is a little small, but it's always clean. Due to its size, there is limited seating inside, but they have more seating outside in their patio area.... I got the combo plate with gyro beef and falafel. I was hesitant to get the gyro beef: my only point of reference was having gyro from Nick the Greek. The meat was juicy and seasoned well. Falafel is always a must, and it was crispy with a vibrant green filling. Achille's sauce is what tied the dish together. Creamy, garlic-y, and cooling. Helped cool down my tastebuds which was spiced up by Achilles' homemade pickled peppers. My critique is the amount of food they give, particularly with the meat, but the sides fill you up nicely. There are many options available for you to choose whether it's a plate or a wrap. Orders: Achilles Chicken Wrap- this had a special Achilles marinate for the chicken so I thought I'd try it, unfortunately I did not taste the special sauce bc of the overwhelming Achilles spicy sauce. While the baba ghanosh , hummus, lettuce were fresh, the olives really captivated my taste buds with that lingering after taste. This place is a great, quick stop, Mediterranean find outside of San Jose. We dropped in and the staff was very friendly, quick to help us learn how to best order. To try a few things we got an achilles chicken pita sandwich and a chicken shawarma meat plate. Both were fantastic. I would recommend the shawarma chicken over the achilles chicken. Both were good but the shawarma chicken had more flavor and tasted more authentic. I liked their style of choosing your type of meal, then loading it with a certain number of toppings. It is extra to add the fresh feta, but YOU MUST ADD IT! It is so creamy and delicious. The only thing I would change about the sandwich is asking for less sauce. I got what the staff recommended which was a combination of tzatziki, hummus, and a spicy sauce, so it was very saucy. Achillies was a pleasant surprise. After bouldering with a couple friends it was the perfect healthy option less than ten minutes away. We got the Gyro Wrap and all the ingredients was fresh and flavorful. What I would probably try next time is their plates because that seems to be the bang for your buck. Casual Mediterranean takeout with great service and "Chipotle"-style choose-your-own meal. I'm about this. It's clear why this place seems to be a community staple. Parking was easy enough with a small parking lot, as you probably won't be here for too long. Pretty much no indoor seating that I could see, so seems to be takeout only at present. Service was great as the staff noticed our processing time of the menu and walked us through everything with recommendations; she also gave us some on-the-house extra to our order since it was our first time here! The place exudes hospitality. Then to top it all off the food was also pretty swell. My brother and I ordered a Gyro wrap, an Achilles Chicken plate, and a side of (heart shaped) falafel. Freshly fried too, as I could see the staff member literally molding and popping our order into the fryer as we ordered our things. The heart-shaped falafel were cute and also tasted pretty smooth (plus creamy with the copious amounts of tahini). The variety of the included toppings has me singing praise, and I'm something of a sucker for baba ghanouj. Everything in the platter was fresh and tasty, and the portion size upgrade with the plate warrants the added $2. The Achilles chicken in of itself has a very strongly fragrant marinade though (which smells delicious in the car), so something to keep in mind as it changes the balance with the sauces/spreads. The Achilles spread is a bit more of a mayo-like consistency, so I did not need as much of that one to be happy with my balance. The Gyro wrap was cleanly wrapped and the gyro was nice and juicy, so I was quite happy with the bites I managed. My cousins and I were in town and wanted to grab a bite to eat before checking into our hotel. We saw many reviews here and decided to come. All 4 of us ordered the combo plate, I got chicken while they got beef. I got the tahini and amba sauce. The chicken was quite dry. Lacked flavor. Sauce was just ok. My cousins also thought theirs were ok. We also got to try their falafels. It was also dry, I've definitely had better. Unfortunately we didn't really enjoy our food and wished we went elsewhere. It was the first time my friends and I went here, and when they heard that, they gave us 3 pieces of falafel for free. The portion size of the plate was also really good. They gave lots of meat and a lot of sauce and toppings. I did think they went a little overboard on the sauces since it felt a bit too heavy, though the flavors were all pretty good. The food was well packed and came delivered exactly as pictured. The gyro beef was flavorful, but kinda pricey as the plate mostly consisted of rice and sauces. I also noticed that the rice was of the short-grain variety vs. the long-grain that's typically served at other places. The star of the show was the falafel which were heart and star shaped. Rated 9th from Yelp's top restaurants in the US in 2019. I had sky high expectations for Achilles. I ordered all 3 different types of proteins on 3 different plates and got a side of falafel. My favorite part of ordering is the variety of the sides. At other places I would normally have to choose between 2, but here you have over 10 different toppings and sauces. In short, I ordered the whole menu. The order of 4 falafels came shaped in heart-shaped, but it was a little on the dry side and not as crispy as I liked. My ranking of the meats in order are the beef, chicken shawarma, and Achilles chicken. There was nothing that stood out from any of the meats and comparable to other Mediterranean restaurants. The portion of hummus and baba ghanoush were good and also my favorite part of the dish. Achilles definitely does not taste like a top 9 restaurant and I wouldn't come out of my way to try it. The restaurant itself is also pretty small, not a lot of tables. Regardless the food was great. I'd think of it as a more tastier halal guys. They have a lot of toppings and are generous with the portions. They seem to have complementary pita bread for to go as well. The rice is delicious. Service was okay, the cashier was super friendly but it's really hard to be audible inside the restaurant so they can't hear you too well as they build your order - which was especially difficult with it being my first time there. I've recently been really into Mediterranean food and have been wanting to try Achilles after multiple recommendations from friends. The service here was amazing! You can really tell that the workers care about your dining experience, and they even offered me a complimentary falafel for being a first-time visitor. All the ingredients in the pita were fresh and the achilles spread and tzatziki sauce were especially tasty and added good flavor. The pita that housed the ingredients, however, was hard, which was disappointing after reading multiple reviews about how the pita is usually soft and fluffy. The shell of the falafel was crisp but didn't have the nuanced flavor that my favorite local mediterranean place has; overall though, the taste was pretty good. My friend got the gyro beef plate and enjoyed it. There is a parking lot with more parking in the back, although it seemed to fill up pretty quickly.
