This place makes great pastrami sandwiches but anything that is salted is waaaaaaay over salted. Tonight's dinner was "southern night". The mashed potatoes were like a blob of glue with some skins and a side of this horrid gravy from a can or more likely a bucket.see photo. When the drinks were delivered incorrectly made, the replacements drinks were about 1/3 less in quantity and the oh so friendly waiter bartender asked if there was anything else we wanted from the bar as he was closing it down - though they were open another hour. The collard greens were tasty but the cornmeal fried chicken was the toughest (and saltiest) piece of chicken I have ever met. Frustrated with how the meal was going I just sent it back and asked for some fries which arrived very promptly but over salted to the hilt. With a napkin I was able to wipe off enough to eat some of them. My assumption is that there was no management owner type on site, or they were unaware. Acme has been our favorite breakfast place for the past year, but it was truly upsetting to see hate symbols worn by staff at breakfast. As our neighbors have to worry about their families being ripped apart, their rights being taken away, and whether or not they are safe in their community...it made us sick to our stomach to see MAGA hats and have to wonder if staff would hate the people that we love. Food should not be political - and no one should have to feel unsafe in their own community. We spent a week in Salem and visited surrounding areas. This was by far the best place we ate. In fact it was so good, we went back twice for breakfast! We had a large group both times, and the service was excellent, the food was so tasty and such generous portions. I wish I had room to try some of the baked goods that looked amazing! This was our favorite breakfast spot, but to see a staff member wearing a MAGA hat was very disheartening and uncomfortable. Whether Acme supports MAGA or not, I don't know. My wife ordered the medium roast, and I ordered the dark roast. The waitress placed a paper coaster under my cup so anyone refilling coffee would know which blend to pour. It's a simple system, but it shows attention to detail that many restaurants overlook. Check out the photos of the different sugar and sweetener selections available for coffee and tea, along with the variety of jam choices served with toast. Those small touches help create a welcoming breakfast experience. At 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday, the restaurant was packed, yet we still managed to find a parking space and a booth. Even with a full dining room, the service remained friendly, attentive, and efficient. Two years later, Sybil's continues to deliver a consistently good breakfast experience. That's becoming harder to find, and it's why we'll continue coming back.
