This is the worst experience I have ever had with Acme Market in Denville, NJ. I been going there for years and this will be the last time I ever go. I just went in to purchase money orders and the employee at the front end/customer service desk said to me that he didn't know how to do them and will try to find someone to help me. He came back and gave me a bullshit excuse telling me that no one can help with my money orders due to a accident happening with the so called front end manager or employee working at the front end earlier today. Well I was pissed I told him that it is fucked up and walked out. Before I left I went back to the desk and said to the gentlemen I want to talk to a manager he repeated to me the situation I said I don't care I want to speak to an actual manager and again repeated to me the same thing. I love this supermarket. It's well-stocked and not overcrowded. If you use their app, you can save lots of money. My favorite feature is the pharmacy. Not only is it convenient, but the pharmacists actually recognize our faces (even though we don't have too many prescriptions), and they are knowledgeable and friendly. We get all our immunizations there, without waiting in line. And we get a 10% off coupon for a whole order for every 10 prescriptions filled, and for every vaccination! read more

Not the go to supermarket in the area because it is so expensive. Comparing prices the mark up is wild. But...if you use the app it balances out. I literally spent an hour of my day just clipping every possible coupon and on my first snow trip supermarket run I saved $45. My complaint is that I have to plan for this and it's not always priced that way. I haven't purchased ready made food as I feel like this is what may be good. Having grown up in NJ where there was always an A&P I was sad to see the chain declare bankruptcy last year and have their stores bought out by other supermarket chains. Our local A&P is now an ACME. I've never been an ACME fan, simply because all of the ACME stores I had been to previously were kind of dumpy, but when they took over our local A&P they brightened the place up a bit, moved around some of the produce to make it look a bit more appealing, and I think they did something with the lighting in some parts of the store. So here's my deal with this new ACME. I was glad to see that they pretty much kept all the employees in place (I think) and didn't seem to let people go just for the sake of bringing in new blood. There has been an overall increase in prices around the store-not crazy, but noticeable...especially with produce-the produce is expensive. I was also not happy about them taking out the self service registers. This is probably the biggest reason for the 2 stars as I hate standing in line when I've just run in for a gallon of milk. Maybe they are trying to be employee friendly and provide more paid positions, I don't know, but I DO know that it's annoying to have to wait in line with 3 items in your hand when the people in front of you have a full load...even if you are in the 15 items or less lane. Anyway, this place is fine...well stocked, Boar's Head deli meat, seafood and meat areas are fine, lots of selections...I just want my self service to come back. read more

ACME is a very solid grocery store that's always well stocked. This isn't my main marketplace to do weekly food shopping but it's a good store to grab stuff and go. I stop in now and again for meats, fruits, vegetables, milk, & eggs and I've never had any issues with the quality on anything that I've purchased. Service is helpful at this store and check out is usually pretty fast, except for the occasional fart who writes out an 'old fashioned check' in the express lane. Come On People it's called an "Express Lane" for a reason, lol. Parking can be tough at peak times as it's a shared parking lot in a strip mall with a ton of other stores and banks. read more

I find this store has improved over the years. More commitment to organic products and I love their private label organic frozen fruits and vegetables for making healthy smoothes. If you sign up with their app you are sent coupon offers for products plus they keep track of what you buy if you put you phone number in at check out so most of the coupon offers they send you are for products that you usually buy. Is it perfect? No, but no grocery store fills every need and I shop at other stores for other items I like such as Wegmans and Trader Joe's. But I think Acme is a good solid local supermarket. read more

There are times when I only need an item or two so go there as it's a mile from home. Then I remember why I don't shop there. The staff are the rudest in the industry. You can tell that they hate their jobs. There is literally no customer service. You say hello and they ignore you. There is only one cash register open at 9:30 am on a Saturday with a line of customers at self-register. if that's not bad enough, there's an employee in the middle of the isle with a cart of bins playing on her phone and you say 3 times "excuse me" hoping she can move to the side for you and others to pass. I really wanted to LIKE the Acme grocery store in Denville NJ and make it my go-to local grocer. But I can't spend half my time in the store waiting for the cashier to call 3 times for a price check, or go to Customer Service on my way out because I realized I was overcharged after paying. In 8 out of the last 8 visits, there was an overcharged item. I learned a while ago to NEVER pick up any items that had no price tag - the item next to a $3.00 competitor could ring up as $6.99! Really want this to be our local go to grocery store as it is 1 mile from my home. However, Staff is seldom friendly and the Produce is constantly covered in fruit flies. Usually it is the onions but yesterday I just needed a quick stop hoping for a few fresh ears of corn on a Friday. The ears of corn were covered and I mean covered in fruit flies!!! It was disgusting. They lay their eggs on everything- I told customer service of the issue which is a constant issue at this Acme, and left. I avoid stopping at this store unless I need something quickly. The GM and franchise owner needs to address this chronic issue. read more

I feel like this place gets a bad name mainly because it's not A&P. Out of the other two food markets in this town, this one is my favorite. Grassroots is too expensive and Food Town is the size of a convenient store. I stopped by to pick up a few things, spinach, bananas, deodorant, etc. Only a hand full of items. The prices were reasonable, & the service got me outta there quickly. I don't mind bagging my own stuff. On a side note; another reviewer complained about the produce being "too ripe" that's probably one of the most ridiculous minute nitpicking complaints I've ever heard. People are seemingly giving out negative reviews because this place isn't an A&P anymore. read more

This place is a garbage fire. They removed the self-checkout registers. Now the place is a crowded nightmare regardless of the time you go. They are horribly under-staffed, so you'll never find what you need from an employee in a timely manner. The food goes bad within a day or so of purchase. Produce, milk, anything perishable goes bad much sooner if purchased from here as compared to any other grocery store in the area. The worst...The older woman/manager that has been there since Denville was founded is nasty at best. There is NEVER a person around to assist and if they are there, it's either a "no" or "I don't know". While the produce seems fresh, it's overpriced. This is true with ALL other products. They are way over priced, routinely out of stock of basic Items like bagels, scallions, avocados.. etc. Tryinng to get someone to help in other depts is futile. My review is mainly for two things about this place. 1. I stop every other day for their fresh fruit. You cannot beat it! It is $5 for a generous sized tub of chopped fruit (I get the pineapple) and it is always fresh. 2. I stopped in the other day to get flowers for a friend. The woman in the florist asked me "Are those a gift? Let me wrap them nice for you, you can't bring them like that." She OFFERED to do this for me. She turned a $9.99 bouquet into a beautiful gift adding colorful ribbons and nice wrapping. I now have a new place to get my flowers. This is a quick stop to get a few special items without waiting on lines. I'm very happy with this new Acme. read more

I like coming to this Acme because the lines are never out of control and the staff is great. The store is clean and you can find most products you need. You can get your weekly groceries fairly quickly without it being an hour long trip to the super market. Its a great place to go when you just need to pick up a few things. The prices are average but they always have great promotions/ games going on so you can save up bonus points and win products. read more

This is one of a very few supermarkets in my area so I don't leave this review lightly... I truly WISH it was a good one. Horrible. The cheese we bought was still not expiring for over a month and since we bought multiples, we unfortunately didn't inspect each and every one. Well, we get home to find mold and fungus on one of the packs before we ever opened it. Well, we can even be reasonable to know that it happens...it can happen to the best of us... so we went back for an exchange. The manager was ABSOLUTELY rude to my husband who went in with a receipt showing that it hadn't been purchased for over 12 hours and asked him how he could be sure it didn't happen in our fridge... and that he doesn't know. He had just taken over the store 3 days prior. UNACCEPTABLE. My husband left the pack on the counter and turned around and walked away. 2 days later, my poor 2 year old had diarrhea really really bad all day. Well, something told us to check the milk. The organic milk which also wasn't set to expire for another month+ smelled awful. That's why this review is happening. Not because of a pack of cheese. Not even for rude management. But again in the same week and making my son that sick? Come on... you are a major supermarket in an area that really needs a good one!! You are feeding people and children! My husband was sharing the story with his local gym buddy and he said that he had also heard horror stories about their food being bad. Completely disheartening. And yes, I agree with others that the prices are ridiculous. Yet again, I would not complain about the prices if the food was safe and if we had decent management. Shame. read more

Since it's changeover from A&P, I have really come to like Acme for their quality, convenience, friendly staff, late hours, easy parking, and great promotions.. (like Monopoly and Sunoco gas discounts). Their iPhone app is very easy to use to get coupons that you clip electronically. Their house brands are all very good and they are related to Safeway and Albertsons out west. I give them a a wholehearted five star rating. read more

I dont know what lack of service upsets me the most, the bakery or the deli. There was two people working in the deli, one cleaning a slicer the other serving a customer. I stood there for over 5 minutes not being helped. I guess you can't stop cleaning a slicer to help a customer. I rarely find anyone in the bakery who can slice bread. The store manager wasn't around either. It's not the first time, but this was one too many times. I worked in a bakery, for several years and the point of having these types of customer facing jobs is to assist people, not hide or ignore them. I try very hard not to go to this store, but it is a little closer than the ShopRite when we need a few items. read more
