I normally like Acme. Decent prices and they are conveniently located to my home. BUT. 15 items or less in self checkout. Ok. I have more. I don't want to wait in line or deal with a cashier. I want to do it myself. There isn't a single customer using self checkout and I'm told by someone that I have too many items and I can't do it myself. Why?? I was told I have to use a cashier. But at night there is almost never a cashier on? So I'd have to use self checkout. Seems a little ridiculous. I was told if we let you then we have to let everyone. But you force people plenty of time when cashiers aren't on? I like this location and I will think twice about shopping there going forward. I simply love this ACME! They have everything. When they have sales? WIN. Employees? So very helpful. A recent example: on 5 January, Iasia in the floral department did an awesome job dressing up my bouquet. She took the time to add three bows and I was thrilled. So was the recipient! Produce dept is questionable. Bought "Fresh Picked" Green Beans today. In special display with fancy packaging. Wife cleaned and had to throw out 1/2 as moldy and black. Shop here every week and generally good but cleanliness is slipping. Buyer Beware read more

This is a 2-star establishment, at best. But, for the most part, the staff is very friendly - they've created a real community grocery feel here in that way. I seldom go, though, because Acme is ridiculously overpriced compared to all of the other nearby stores; I worked, a few years back, for a food distributor, and Acme was a client, and they had the biggest product mark-up of all the stores my former company dealt with. But you didn't need me to tell you that. You can tell within a few minutes of browsing the aisles, but you will be off guard for a few because they'll have a high ticket item in their lobby marked way down (today it was Ritz Crackers, which are usually $4+, on sale for $1.99. But everything else is at least a dollar more than what you'll pay at ShopRite. The good crew members are quite good; the others, maybe not so much. Here's my story. Last month, my not-quite-7-year-old son and I went into Acme to order a Minion cake for his birthday. I ordered it 2 weeks in advance and called the day before to make sure it would be ready. I was assured it would be. I went there to pick it up the next day, and it was not made. At all. The woman at the bakery was mortified and apologetic. We found a cake in their grab-and-go bin that was similar to the one we ordered, and she offered to write "Happy Birthday" on the cake for my son, and then changed her mind and said she really didn't feel comfortable writing in icing...which later made me wonder: did her shift just start when we arrived, or had she been there for awhile? Was SHE the reason the cake wasn't made? No matter - disaster was averted since there was a Despicable Me cake in the case, but come on. Why offer custom cakes when your employees don't like writing in icing? I decided to file a complaint before posting a review on Yelp to see how the company handled this. And, impressively, I got a call the next day from the assistant manager; we were out that day, and I figured I'd call back the following day. But before I could do so, the manager called me back, and he offered to refund the price of the grab-n-go cake and give me a $25 gift card as well. He was incredibly apologetic and admitted his staff "fell down on the job." Stuff happens - it's not the end of the world, and I was pleased with his offer of reparations. HOWEVER, the day I went in to collect my refund and gift card, I was greeted by a patron who leaned over her cart conspiratorially to tell me, "Cash only. The computers went down." She walked on, shaking her head. The store was bedlam. I headed over to the customer service desk, hoping that the chaos wouldn't affect me. HAHA. After 30 minutes, the manager came over, introduced himself -- he was VERY cordial, friendly, and apologetic not only about the cake, but the state of the store as well. He asked me to come back another time. As I headed out, I saw a very thin, young girl gathering carts. I've worked retail in the past and have done this task - it's not brain surgery, but cart wrangling CAN be tricky. But not when you use common sense. I was parked next to one of those raised beds with shrubs and a tree; no other cars were parked around me. Yet this employee opted to LIFT two carts (two carts are harder to steer than one) on to the raised bed, where she promptly lost control of them, and they fell into the passenger side of my car. I just felt broken and exhausted, so I stood back, watching, hoping she couldn't figure out that I was the owner of the car. I really don't like confrontation and there is no joy in attacking a young cart pusher at Acme. My car is not a luxury model, and did not sustain much damage at all. But I couldn't believe that this company dissed my kid by not making his cake, then couldn't make good on its make-good, AND dinged up my car while I wasted a half hour of my life. I finally got in again today, though - without any damage to my stuff! I spoke with the assistant manager, a very nice woman who apologized again, profusely. She had one of the crew members process my return and the gift card and I was able to shop (mindful of their pricing structure as to maximize the card's value) for many of my weekly groceries, without spending a cent. I really appreciate that. Management's care in fixing this issue is the reason why they get 3 stars rather than 1 or 2. read more

I love this store and the employees. Especially the seafood department and an employee named Racquel. She will go above and beyond to make sure you get a fresh quality product. She has a bubbly personality and always aims to please. She sets the bar. I'm a yardville acme customer for life. read more
