My review definitely needs an update.  I've been here several times because I'm in Appleton and I have time to get some work done.  I do like going to different coffeehouses, but they all have different hours on when they're open...especially the weekends.  Acoca makes my life easy. They're open until 9pm every day of the week. The only other place that comes close to that is Starbucks, and I want to stay away from that if possible. The service has also been consistent.  I recognize the staff, and they all work very hard plus they're pleasant. Tip them, they deserve it!  Lately the music they play has been fun to listen to. Lots of oldies or newer music with that nostalgic 50's, 60's sound. read more

Driven by this coffee shop many times and never stopped until I did on a Sunday morning. I wish I stopped a lot sooner. This is one awesome coffee shop! The layout is perfect. They have lots of couches and chairs along with tables to sit at. They also have two tables outside. They have a shelf of boardgames meaning they dont care if you actually take a seat and stay a while. Coffee- Coffee is some of the most delicious coffee I have had. I ordered the Chai Tea with Espresso and it was perfect. I also got a light roast coffee with cream the next day. All of their coffee is pour over meaning that they grind enough beans for your cup of coffee and then pour the hot water over the freshly ground beans. So, you get the freshest coffee with the most flavor. Food- They have a lot of freshly baked goods. I should have paid attention to who makes them but the muffins are where its at. The barista made a comment that she finally tried one after working their for a few months and finally discovered why they always sold out. I also can see why as I wanted to eat all of them. Service- Service was fantastic. Even being pour over which understandably does take a little bit of extra time I got my coffee quickly. If you want a fantastic coffee shop in downtown Appleton, this is one of the good ones. I will make this one of my regular coffee shops to visit. read more

Hippie Coffee for the Win. Not sure what it is about hippies and coffee, but put them together and you get some great coffee places. Everything here is either a pour over or an espresso - no drip coffee sitting in a pot, so you will have to wait while they make it for you. They also have some really nice coffee options (pick whichever you want, they brew it for you right then), including real Kona (which is a little pricy, but hey, it's real Kona, and no, the Kona "blends" you have had are not real Kona). Inside is fine, a little scuffy (hippie coffee, remember?), but the wifi is free. Food is....well, it is as good as Starbucks, which means not really that good. Overall, the coffee quality makes up for the food being meh, so it has to be five stars. Plus it's kind of fun rocking the place in a suit amongst the hippies. read more

I ordered takeout from Acoca for the first time today. I ordered a iced latte with peppermint and chocolate with skim milk. They had a lot of flavors and milk options. I love peppermint mocha, but most places only carry it around the holidays. However, I was able to get it here and it was delicious. I also ordered a Nola bagel. I'll be honest, I thought the food prices were kind of high. But... it was well worth it. My bagel had so much meat and cheese. I could barely get my mouth around it for a bite. It also had an olive spread and some dressed greens. It came with a small fruit cup and a pickle. It was amazing. I wanted to take a picture of it, but I scarfed it down before I could. The cashier was also extremely friendly as well. She offered to get me some silverware and a bag. I will definitely be back. read more

Decent place and friendly staff. It had high potential for me with on-site roasting. However the bottom line for me with coffee is brewing it correctly. Unfortunately, the pour over requested (With Costa Rica) was very weak / thin & nondescript. You can still taste a bit of the green bean as if it wasn't roasted long enough. Regardless, whether it's the roast or incorrect brew technique such as too light weight of grounds to water ratio, or poured too quickly, etc, it was a bit disappointing. I'd probably give it another try as they were friendly and the potential exist for execution, but today the coffee didn't deliver. read more

Great local coffee shop. Coffees are outstanding, great bakery items and local ice cream for hot days. I'd love to try more of their snacks but they are pricey compared to similar places. I'm willing to pay a small premium for local businesses, most of their prices are in line with what you'd expect. read more

My first time here. The three other coffee shops that I know of on College Ave. were closed, this was the only one open on an early Sunday morning. Glad I stopped in. Seating is just a smidge sparse, but comfy. A few tables, a bar, and a few squishy, sink-into-them couches. The coffee roaster is right out front, where you can watch the process- kinda fun. Their menu is pretty standard for a coffee house- coffee and tea, smoothies, bagels, biscotti, and scones. Don't think they make sandwiches or anything more substantial. But thats ok, its good to keep focused on the beans. They also serve Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, a local super premium brand. Its good stuff- I highly recommend giving the brand a try if you haven't yet. As mentioned above, they roast their own beans. Not being terribly knowledgeable about coffee, I can't really compare or contrast it to other places. But, I do know its delicious and hits the spot. The service was friendly and prompt. The mocha I ordered was pretty good, not overly sweet like some other places, but just right. Overall? I wasn't wowed, but definitely wasn't disappointed either and couldn't find fault with anything. It's a convenient location downtown Appleton, making it easily accessible. The barista board of recommendations is super helpful when indecisive on what to order. The coffee and espresso are smooth and roasted to perfection (not smelling over roasted or basically burned). The cooler is always stocked with unique and delicious snack options. The coffee is good, although served in styrofoam to go, paper cups is my preferred to go cup of coffee as it doesn't seem to change the flavor of coffee. Very eclectic shop, somehow coffee and fast has escaped these folks, like I already said the coffee is good but getting that coffee is an exercise in patience, with one customer in front of me it took over 10 minutes, I won't be back, especially with a show at the theater, one employee behind the counter seems cruel to the employee. 5 stars for product, one star for service, no half stars allowed so this place gets overall two stars read more

I'm from out of town. I came here because Yelp told me they have good coffee. And they do! My Americano was made well, and judging by the roaster in the window, I assume that their coffee is relatively fresh. The vibe is cozy, which is nice on a cold Wisconsin winter day. But styrofoam cups? Even if I order my coffee "for here"? I can't bring myself to revisit this place for that reason alone. If I do come back, I'll have to remember to bring my own mug. read more

Pretty tasty, had the espresso a few times and an Americano. Roast the beans in house, resulting in some very good coffee. I think I payed two something for a double espresso. Don't know much about coffee, but it was quite good. Nice atmosphere in the place, some comfy seating in the middle and some metal chairs with cushions. The tables were heavy and stable, which is awesome... Nothing more annoying than trying to read/write/do anything with a cup of coffee on a rickety table. It was a bit cold both times I was there. I love this place!! I have been going there frequently for the past two years and the quality of their coffees, teas, and bakery has always been consistently good. The baristas are friendly and willing to help you pick a drink if it's you're first time or if you're looking for something new to try. The only downside is the parking which is expected since it's downtown. It can be near impossible to find a close spot on a Friday evening and Saturday morning (especially if there is a show at the PAC). read more

Visited the new location. Great vintage vibe, however they are still working out some kinks. Was not acknowledged first couple minutes after I arrived. Could not see a list of flavors for espresso drinks. No bakery items that I could see. The coffee was very good, but very high priced. $6.22 for a small 12oz cappuccino. Not including the $1.00 tip. I live in the neighborhood so was hoping to visit frequently, but at that price point it will be hard to justify. Also, from a marketing stand point, might be helpful to replace the generic store bought styrofoam to-go cups with some paper cups that have their logo. Styrofoam is terrible for the environment. Again, just some kinks to work out. I did enjoy the taste of cappuccino. read more

Really great staff - gave recommendations for my first visit and very friendly. Relaxed atmosphere with couches or tables. Wifi for study sessions and snacks for when you need a break. Beans down my favorite coffee shop in Appleton. Relaxed vibe, friendly staff, and good coffee. I also love that they carry Chocolate Shoppe ice cream (a Madison based ice cream maker) and typically have one dairy free flavor. Most of their other treats also cater to gluten and dairy allergies. It's not the coffee shop to see and be seen, but that makes it an even more desirable location for some quiet reflection and a caffeine fix. read more

Wow, I love this place! It takes a while to get the groove, but once you do... my kids love it and I love it. They have higher quality specialty flavors for the lattes, lots of ice cream, and they roast their own coffee beans. Don't forget to ask about getting on their frequent coffee purchase list; you'll get a free coffee after buying so many. The baristas take pride in their work. One of them can make lots of designs on the foam/coffee top, they are works of art. You won't get the artificial "welcome to Starbucks" with a fake smile here. Whenever you find yourself peeking in the window to see if it's the"good barista" or the "bad barista" that's working it might be time to try something new. I don't like giving bad reviews but I got excited when I saw that this place roasted their own beans. I got a latte like I normally do at coffee shops. I like giving smaller shops a shot because I hate Starbucks but I honestly would have rather had Starbucks than what I had here. The roaster gave an allusion of quality coffee but watching the barista quickly pull a shot and dump some lukewarm steam milk in a crappy to go cup angered me as I am someone who is practicing my espresso skills. It just saddens me to know people give this place good ratings believing this is good coffee. My advice would be for the workers to turn their job into a form of art and work on your skills. read more
