About 3-4 months ago, my girlfriend and I were looking for a new place to go for our Friday night dinner date (a weekly tradition we try to maintain). Since that first trip, I believe we have been back 7-8 times now - which is saying something, given the plethora of strong dinner date options we have locally. Firstly, it is BYOB - which is a big plus for us, we love to save money by bringing beer/wine with us. Secondly, the service is a 10/10. We like sitting at the bar (which is exceedingly enjoyable at Acqua e Farina as this allows you to watch Sal and the team prepare all of the food) and we were greeted by a friendly young girl named Polina. She was super friendly and personable, and was quick to give us recommendations from her personal favorite menu items and specials (we love to ask what the servers like). We have yet to order a pizza that we haven't loved, and the desserts are outstanding as well. On our most recent trip, my girlfriend asked about a fig pizza that was not listed on the board of specials, and Sal was kind enough to make it for us anyway. I stopped in a few days after opening. There wasn't an outside sign yet, so I knew they were just at the very beginning of what promises to be a very successful business. The place is small but very comfortable with a few tables and a counter facing the charming brick oven. They even had the windows open on the crazy warm winter day last week. The service is very good & very prompt. I ordered a special pie of the day with fabulous sausage, spinach, porcini mushrooms & buffalo mozzarella & a soda ($21 plus tip). The pizza was served within minutes of ordering due to that brick oven. It was delicious! My only complaint was that it was totally wet and sloppy on the bottom whereas I like it crisp. I watched a guy next to me try to eat a slice out of hand and noted he couldn't fold it and it collapsed into a mess. He looked frustrated but soon gobbled it up using a fork. The pizza is served on a flat pizza plate that might have caused it to steam. I took half home & reheated it to crispy! Although soggy on the bottom, the end crusts were delicious and the toppings first rate. No doubt it was a pricey lunch! Had I been with someone else I would have split the pizza and tried one of their delectable looking salads. I'll be back! I love Osteria Veccia & this new effort certainly lives up to it. Wow how has no one told me about this place? A wood fired oven from Napoli, pizzaioli that speak Italian, and a really good seating layout! woah, i never knew a pizza place like this in Newtown existed! I was craving pizza after watching the first episode of Ugly Delicious, and didnt want to get some random take out pizza, but my friends brought me here for dinner on a friday night, and wowza, i am definitely coming back and recommending it here! there was a slight wait by the time we arrived, but we were seated pretty quickly. from the outside of the restaurant, it seemed like a random old house or something, BUT once you open the doors, everything is so modern, clean, neat, and feels like you're transported to a homey italian household (who has an imported brick oven from italy if they're rich lol). everyone was super friendly, and it definitely made me excited to try all the dishes! we ordered the BURRATA (a great appetizer if you love the mozzarella family cheese! it was just one baseball sized ball of burrata, on a bed of random salad out of a bag, and a couple slices of prosciutto. great starter, but the salad was kinda wimpy), and two types of specialty pizza (sorry don't have the names) - but it was the SEAFOOD PIZZA (a red sauce pizza, very seafood-y, stronger smell than you think) and the PANCHETTA PIZZA (a white sauce pizza with panchetta and truffled mushrooms). i recommend getting one white pizza and one red pizza to just go back and forth and have fun with your taste buds. the flavors are spot on, and the dough of the pizza, it is to die for. if you love chewy dough, very chewy dough, with a bit of char from the oven, it is your place to come for pizza. for dessert, we got the NUTELLA DOUGHNUTS (its essentially 3 huge doughnuts, or pizza dough, fried up and covered in plain white sugar, and drizzled with a ton of nutella. the dough is SO chewy and has the same fluffy chewy texture of the pizza dough. how many times can i say chewy in this review. ill say it one more time though because thats how much i love the word to describe this pizza. CHEWY there is very limited parking here, so park in the lot across at the car shop past 6pm! great excellent service here, everyone is so friendly, they provide house wine only if they have, but BYOB for sure, and so so awesome that they serve limoncello at the end too if they have. i feel so appreciated with that house wine and limoncello, just makes me feel like they care and host to each individual as family rather than a customer. will definitely come again! read more

Really cute place. Great for a casual night out, best part is that this place is BYOB. My husband and I ordered the Calamari which was perfectly crispy. I had a pizza with truffle cheese, mozz, salami, and topped with a drizzle of honey. I was skeptical at first about the honey, but the waitress assured me it was not too sweet and it was actually one of her favorites. I couldn't agree more. It was SO good (only thing I would tell them to hold off on the meat -personal preference). My Husband got a calzone, which was Huge. Great flavor, filled with lots of cheese and meat. The Bad: This place is very small, so you can end up waiting a long time. The prices are probably more than your usual pizzeria or pizza from an Italian restaurant. The dough is soft and has a slight chewiness to it while still maintaining the toasted portions from the high heat oven. If you like crispy thin pizza this is not that. The ingredients used are high quality. Other food: We only had the arugula salad, and it was fresh and delicious. We sat at the high top watching all appetisers and pizzas being made and all the ingredients and processes are high quality. Atmosphere: Once you are seated, the aromas, the interior (country/rustic/modern) is pleasant and comfortable. Service: Depending on how crowded it is, and how much wait staff is there, it might get a little slow, but the food makes up for it. NOTES for your visit: - BYOB, and if waiting in line, ask server for a glass so you can start drinking - If you sit at the bar, the guy making pizza can take your order (speeds up total time) - One pizza should fill up the average person. We had one salad and two pizzas and three people were perfectly stuffed/full. - Try to go at a non-peak time to reduce wait time. - I don't think they do reservations In a nutshell, this place is definitely worth visiting. Wife and I thought we would try this restaurant for dinner. The inside intimate -- not a lot of tables but they did have outside tent dining. So we ordered the Margarita pizza (one size only) it was like a 14" pie good for two it had nice mozzarella blobs of cheese and the sauce was tangy with a good taste of fresh tomato along with a couple pieces of basil- crust was wood fired but very floppy and soft but good flavor. We also ordered the eggplant tower- this is where the dinner was a let down. It came stacked with mozzarella cheese and prosciutto - The fried eggplant coated in bread crumbs was COLD-- we asked the young waitress concerning this she said it's supposed to be that way they fry it up ahead of time-- huh??? Any fried food should come HOT and hopefully a little crispy not soggy cold- we didn't argue but was disappointed. Visited last night with wife and daughter. Was not crowded and sat immediately. Got the same as others have with the free mini tomato pie and bruchetta (sp?) aps for the table and they disappeared quickly as we looked over the menu and the server described the specials and the menu. Brought a bottle of wine with us so was not offered the free wine but would not expect it. We ordered 2 pies, both specials. The first was the Julia with a butternut squash sauce, smoked buffalo mozzarella and sausage. Delicious. The second started with an M but cannot remember the name, it had tomato base with fresh mozzarella, basil and fried eggplant. Also Delicious. Both were cooked perfectly. Not sure what other reviewers were talking about regarding wet and undercooked or lack of sat in the dough. It's a little floppy on the first bite and you may need as assist with a fork to get that one up to your mouth but all ahnds from there on and not a problem for us. If anything I would say that the dough is a little saltier than most WHICH IS GOOD by my account. I ate all my crust if that is any indication and I do not normally do that. I was a bit surprised at how long the pies took to come after we ordered ... at least 20 minutes after we ordered. It was pretty slow and the pies cook in 60-90 seconds. Not a big deal as we were not in a hurry but it's not like we ordered antipasta or salads. We were too full for the delicious looking Nutella and S'mores Pizzas and Nutella doughnuts that my daughter was drooling over but the adults were treated to a small sample of mulled apple cider with a grain kick ... kind of a twist on the lemon-cello aperitif. Very nice. Service was great, so friendly and happy to explain anything on or off the menu. The daughter / proprietor (sorry, did not catch her name) was one of the the servers and you could tell she took pride in what she did and treated her customers accordingly. Well done. Some of the best pizza and service that I have ever had! The place is small, but when you step inside it feels like you are stepping into a home kitchen in Italy and you are greeted by the most friendly people. They obviously have a lot of love for what they do and the food that they serve. They told us the story behind the oven and the chef (apparently the purchase was a package deal haha), and made sure we understood everything on the menu. The pizza was out of this world. I am bias in that I love this style of brick oven pizza, however their pizza beats Syracuses Peppino's PS2 which won worlds best pizza a few years ago. It's great to have a high end Napolitan pizza house in Newtown! It's even better that the enterprise is owned by Pasquale and Anna, the proprietors of Osteria Vecchia, the excellent casa Italiana right down the street. This shop is for the daughter and son-in-law. Thus, begin empires. The building is on the site of the former Minuteman Press. That old structure was taken down to the foundation, and a new Euro-Country Casual establishment arose. Attention to detail is obvious, as the space is beautiful, with quality stone, wood, glass and a "just off the boat" wood burning hive oven covered in red glazed tile and contrasting white ceramic lettering that shouts, "Pasquale & Anna/Acqua e Farina!" We were greeted by Sal, the maestro de la casa, who sat my son and I at the corner table where we could see the whole operation. We ordered a Siciliana pie, and as we waited, other servers brought thin slices of red sauced bread, and a small plate of Brussel sprouts that were soft and delicious from their time swimming in olive oil and spices. I was even offered a glass of red wine on the house. Very cool touch! The pie arrived with steam shimmering above it, on a large white platter. It was cut in quarters, and covered in mozza, afterburn peccorino and chunks of eggplant. Truly, a work of art with the bubbled crust and scorched undercarriage. The special deal with these ovens is that they hold extremely high heat, such that the raw pie is placed in the oven for less than three minutes, while baking everything quickly and capturing all the flavor of the ingredients before they burn off and escape. The result is a wonderfully textured and tasty crust that is flavored by the ingredients you choose. It is all about the dough (thus, the name, Water & Flour), and secondarily about the toppings. Quite different than the better known pizza experience provided by most joints. So it was here. A beauty to behold, and a pleasure to consume. Of course, there is a downside to this approach to baking. While the crust is excellent, the more ingredients you put on top, the wetter the center of the pie will be on the plate, because it is not possible to fully cook the veggies and meats in such a short time, and as a result of the lack of evaporation in the oven, the finished product will be softer that normal, and the drip from the collected moisture under the hood will be noticeable, and require care to avoid making a mess. The secret is to order a simple pie with minimal topside accessories, so that the crust, cheese and sauce have the maximum opportunity to vent off the moisture. This provides a drier bottom and optimal crustiness. Dining at Acqua & Farina is very different than eating at pizza parlors. It is designed as a feast for the senses. There are more moving parts, and the resulting cost enhancement is noticeable. There is a time when "two slices and a soda," is what you want, but there are also times when although you yearn for pizza, you want a more rousing experience. At those moments, Acqua e Farina will be calling your name. read more

Today they let us host a baby shower for a friend, their first yet. The team opened up early for us, hand selected a pre-set menu and easily accommodated 22+ plus people! Best Neapolitan style pizza in the region! Definitely worth a trip if you haven't been there before.

If I had to sum up the food in one word it would be "underwhelming". We ordered the margherita pizza and the vodka pasta. The pizza was lacking flavor and very underwhelming. The vodka pasta was tasty, but we've had better elsewhere and prefer our go-to spot for vodka rigatoni. Overall I don't see myself returning and will not be adding this place to our regular restaurant rotation. I think this spot could be nice idea for a cozy date because of the atmosphere.
