To be honest, I was not really in the mood for pizza, but something just seemed interesting to me about Acqua e Farina. The minute I walked in the door, I knew my instincts wouldn't let me down. They have a small but very inviting atmosphere, friendly staff, open kitchen that you can view from the bar (as with most places in this area, it's BYOB with wine and I assume beer can take the ride with you too), and really good food. They have a nice philosophy of making sure that guests have something to sample as soon as they are seated. From my understanding, they normally have warm focaccia, but on the night I visited, they were out, and I'm so glad they were. Instead, they served a room temp bean salad consisting of canalini beans, red onion, and cherry tomatoes. There are a few other ingredients, but I'm sworn to secrecy (you're welcome Nancy). Next was the arugula salad. Crisp, great olive oil, perfect acidity. Plenty for two, but I ate the whole thing. On to the Bronzino. Cooked in the night heat of the pizza oven (in a covered pan, no worries, the fish does not touch the pizza oven cooking surface). Then the fish is presented whole, deboned out of sight, and delivered to your table sans bones. Perfect. The pizza is perfect. Thin middle, thicker outer crust, and all of it is light and airy. They use excellent ingredients so yes, you'll pay a little more, but you're worth it, right? I hope you get a chance to visit soon. If you're lucky, Nancy will serve your table. Probably one of the cutest places I have been to in a long time. This small mom and pop place has everything that will be a successful restaurant in Newtown. Great food and service. Excellent service, very clean, friendly upscale atmosphere. I am partial to the wood-fired pizza with a chewy, succulent dough. They're very open to customization, and since I eschew cheese I heaped on loads of veggies instead. Keep in mind this is not the crispy crust some others might prefer. The ingredients are high quality and the cheese aficionados in my party were fans of the mozzarella. I liked seeing the wood oven in the middle of the restaurant. I also appreciated the complimentary house wine. Their salads are huge and will fill you up when paired with a personal pizza. My kids enjoyed the Nutella pizza afterward. The space is small, including the parking, so it might be tight on certain evenings. We did an early lunch and didn't have to wait. This pizza was DOUGH-licious!!!!!! I know some people have said that the pizza dough was wet in the center of the pizza but the dough was honestly the best part!!! It was so light and fluffy it felt like a was biting into a cloud! It was amazing! The atmosphere is small & cozy. The wait wasn't too long on a Saturday night. The entire staff was super friendly. I absolutely loved how they gave you free sautéed veggies...I think eggplant...to start out with & a basket of tasty & unique bread (the little dark balls were my fave). We ordered the Tagliere Napoletano as an app., the Capricciosa pizza & Al Forno calzone for the main course. I wish we would have gotten more pics but everything was so delicious that we quickly devoured it. We got takeout, and everything was fabulous. We walked in to packed tables, a family waiting to be seated, and some Italian guys speaking in Italian. I felt like I was in The Godfather or something. They're gonna make me a pizza I can't refuse. We had the Bufalina (prosciutto, arugula, buffalo mozz, grape tomatoes, shaved parm), Sasicc' e Friarell' (broccoli rabe, buffalo mozz, sausage), and the Margherita (buffalo mozz and sauce). Everything was great, but the Bufalina was my favorite. I've had similar pizzas with way too much arugula, but this had the perfect amount of ingredients! The kitchen is open, so you can watch them make the pizza. It's very clean. There are only 8 two-person tables, seats up to 20 because a few kids were there and they pulled up extra chairs. So, we came here on a whim for our anniversary dinner. Turns out someone my boyfriend works with brought a pizza from them today, and he just had to go back for more. We've been to Italy and had the pizza there - this is basically identical but with a few more options, and of course the menu is in English so that helps! Plus they only use buffalo mozzarella, which my boyfriend can eat since he has problems with dairy. So it's a win win for him. We were seated very quickly at the pizza bar on a Friday night around 7, which was surprising because it is a very small place. It didn't take long for us to get our order in - our waitress was extremely nice. It was neat because we got to watch all the food being made. The downside to the meal came when we got our food. First, my boyfriend got his Saltamboca CIAMBOTTA, but then when they came to deliver my pizza, they realized they delivered mine to another person about 10 minutes earlier. IT was funny because we actually saw that happen. They said they'd make me another, and my boyfriend started eating his sandwich. Now, this was disappointing because we came here for our anniversary and couldn't even enjoy dinner together. I totally understand the mix up, but did inform the waitress of our special occasion. She was so apologetic, told the owner, and she apologized directly to us and said they would make my BF another sandwich so that we could eat together. On top of that, they offered us a glass of wine, and gave us a complimentary cheesecake and chocolate-ciello for dessert. The food was most certainly worth the wait. In fact, I've never seen my boyfriend so happy with food. He actually told the people sitting next to us, the cooks, and I think another couple how good the food was. It was like he enjoyed his dinner more than the 3 years we've been together! LOL. The whole ride home that's all he talked about in the car. In summary, the food is delicious, but the service is spectacular. You feel like you are in someone's home and that they will make sure they take care of you and that you leave happy. How did I forget to write this review?! Everything about this place was great....so great that my husband and I came Friday night to try them out and we returned Sunday after for lunch with friends so they could try it out. The place gets busy on the weekends and they don't take reservations, but it is definitely worth the wait. Check out their specials board for new and unique pizzas. They offer complimentary red wine while you wait and a new complimentary app for that day. The place is family owned and you get the family feel in their service. The guys making the pizza are really nice too. Try and get a seat at the "bar" to get a first hand look at your pizza being made in the oven. Save room for some dessert because the nutella pizza is so yum. The owner makes this yummy chocolate-cello that is also complimentary. Service a 5. The food a 5. The most needed thing in Newtown was REAL old school pizza. Not since my last trip to New Haven CT for Pepe's have I had such good pies. Prepared from the owners hands direct to your plate. Sat at the bar, given a welcome glass of wine as a welcome to the place. We had the antipasto traditional - the eggplant is not to be missed. They don't use the high-gluten flour that everyone else uses. It is much lighter. You don't feel like you ate lead after you finish. The sauce and cheese have so much flavor. Perfect amount of salt and spices. We had the Sicilian. The eggplant melts in your mouth. I was in Italy last month, and this is as good, if not better than anything I had there. Really authentic. First time here, came here based on reviews- as always. It was pretty small inside and very very crowded at 6pm on a Friday, super loud atmosphere almost like a bar at midnight. We ended up sitting at the bar top closest to the door which is where everyone stood who was waiting for a table, which was claustrophobic. Stopped in the other night to some true Italian pizza! I love the space, and the pizza oven is absolutely amazing. Ordered an eggplant parm., which was fantastic, and a traditional margherita pizza- yum! The pizza was so flavorful (I'm Italian, grew up in NY and have eaten pizza all over the world- including in Italy), and very much up there with some of the best pizzas I have had... Like someone else reviewed, I do have one complaint however: the pizza was not cooked enough. The entire bottom was a soggy mess, and I couldn't even cut the dough. I basically had to tear pieces apart to eat it. When I asked the server about cooking it more, I was told this is how pizza is in Naples. For me, watery cheese and saturated dough just doesn't make for a great pizza-eating experience. Next time, I will have to ask for it well-done (which I don't typically do), and I'm sure it will improve everything for me. Perk: BYOB! read more

This pizza place isn't one for everyone, it depends how you like your pizza dough consistency. I would say the pizza here is definitely soft, doughy; you'll have to fold the slices in half to eat. If you're one that likes thin and crunchy crust, you won't be a fan. I got the diavolo pizza and it was very good! I loved the salami and cheese but I also tried a slice of the brocolli rabe and sausage and the broccoli rabe was SO BITTER, i couldn't even eat it and I'm a huge fan of broccoli rabe. Although the pizza still is good it's not a great takeout pizza as fresh from the oven. it's Just the nature of Neapolitan pizza. We just left the restaurant after waiting an hour for a simple pizza which never arrived. Experience started out OK as we were promptly seated, told the specials and ordered. The order was very easy: a salad and a pizza. Salad arrived promptly but the pizza never came. We asked our waitress several times and she did check on it and said it would be coming shortly. Shortly never happened. At one point the busboy even asked us what happened to our pizza. After seeing that all the tables that sat down after us were already eating, we gave up. The waitress apologized again (gave us our bill for the salad which we paid) and we left. Very disappointing experience.
