This hotel has a lovely setting and has very nice lobby/reception area. The reason for the two-star review is horribly soft beds and street noise. I could not sleep. Unfortunately a weekend getaway for rest and renewal turned into the exact opposite. If you have any back pain and can't sleep on a super soft bed without being in a whole lot of hurt the next day, this is not the place for you. Acqua Hotel truly was a surprise and a breath of fresh air. My Family and I spent two days here with the intention just taking the bus or any other public transportation to downtwon San Fo; we inded up missing a lot of the places where we are supposed to go and just stayed in the hotel as the hotel is very relaxed, tranquil and serene. Customer service here is top notch and attention to detail of the CS team is admirable. Our room AC was leaking, they transferred us to another room and discounted our stay there. In this day and age where common courtesy is forgotten, this place has proven itself as one of the last bulwark of good hotels with impeccable customer care and service. If you want to go tour San Fo, this would not be the hotel for you as this is rather far from the city and nestled in a quaint liitle town in Sausalito, but if you want to relax and chill, this place is pretty hard to beat. read more

Wow! What a gem! I stayed here for four days during an on-site conference, and am so impressed. My room was spacious, well-appointed, and immaculate and had a veranda and lagoon view (as do all the rooms). Even though the hotel is (conveniently) located right off of and parallel to highway 101, you don't hear any traffic noise in your room (the room entry doors and living room area are closest to the freeway, while the bedroom is in the back, overlooking the lagoon). A/C is powerful and whisper quiet. The included breakfasts are filling (hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, bagels, croissants and muffins, make-your-own-waffle station, coffee, juices, water), and the complimentary nightly 5-7 p.m. wine/cheese/cracker reception features surprisingly good wine. And the freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies after 7 p.m. are divine. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful (shout out to Joshua!) and the sales manager, Judy, is the ultimate professional - remaining unphased regardless of any situation or request - and she has thought of and planned for everything in advance, creating a perfect, customer-focused experience. No restaurant on site; sushi and Italian within walking distance. Or, a short drive (or bike ride, provided by the hote!) to Sausalito and SF. AND ... they're dog-friendly!!! read more

This hotel was fine. I was looking for a hotel in Marin County for our staycation weekend with my family. I had a hard time deciding on which one to pick. I asked my brother (he works in Tiburon) and he made a few suggestions. I've had Acqua hotel bookmarked for a long time way back when they were a joie de vivre hotel so I decided on this one. it's quick to get to and very close to Muir Woods and many of the other beautiful things Marin county has to offer. I love that it has a beautiful body of water right behind the hotel and is within walking distance to a couple of restaurants. We checked in a bit early and they were able to accommodate us. We brought our bags to our room and settled in right away. My son loved their hotel lobby and was memorized by the beautiful water installation they have. He kept pointing at the water and joyfully exclaiming "water mama" and ran around excited. I requested for a quiet room on an upper level floor and we were given a room on the second floor with a partial view of the water. The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept for a total of 8 hours uninterrupted. They have a beautiful big bath tub which my son loved. They also provided bath salts for your use in the bath. They have earth friendly body soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner dispensing machines which was great! I love this and saves the earth from those tiny little packages most hotels use. They also provide q-tips, cotton balls and a hair dryer as well as a robe. Even though our room was close to the freeway, it didn't bother me at all. I didn't even hear any cars in the middle of the night and slept soundly. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because they don't have an onsite restaurant but make up for it with their great amenities with a wine and cheese hour, freshly baked cookies in evening as well as a breakfast with excellent choices (eggs, bacon, fruit, bagels etc). The staff were kind and attentive. Our room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. As other guests have mentioned, the rooms are designed in calming tones and simple modern furnishings. I appreciated the glass hallways meant to focus on the views of Richardson Bay. The wine and cheese was fun along with the fresh baked evening cookies. The breakfast was better than other hotel offerings and cooked fresh with nice additions such as an oatmeal bar, cereal bar and waffle station. Sausalito and Tiburon are both only 5-10 minutes away (if you plan to visit any of those locations). They do have bike rentals for the path just outside their doors. I think it would be fun to include yard games for guests during warmer months since they have such a nice lawn area (croquette or maybe corn hole). The Acqua Hotel was great and we would definitely stay again if in the area. read more

Clean and effective layout but not something you wouldn't see at a 3 star hotel chain. Closet drawer space limited. Nothing in mini bar and no snacks or water to be had apparently. Nice breakfast selection even a waffle iron. Coffee and water and green apples are available free in lobby and there is a wine and cheese table in the evening. Views are great. I don't know how I came across Acqua Hotel, but boy am I glad that I did. We purchased the junior suite option (~$188 for AAA members) for a special birthday occasion. The location is a bit hidden if you are not familiar with the Mill Valley area. If you exit from 101 N, the location should be on your left immediately after the freeway underpass. When we checked in, Jordan (front desk guy) delighted us with news of a room upgrade to a fireplace suite. He also wished me a happy birthday. What welcoming, cordial service! Our room was 303, which placed us in the corner and opposite from the freeway (we didn't experience any noise). We adored the room, especially the large and comfortable sofa for a casual reading area. The fireplace was also a lovely, quaint touch merely for its presentation. I wasn't quite sure if its function did its part to warm the room, but the room itself was cozy enough. I have to admit that the main reason I went for Acqua Hotel was the bathtub option, and I was very satisfied when I saw its large size. The tub should accommodate for two but we're also not 6' tall. The balcony view was gorgeous at any time of the day, though we wish the outdoor chairs were a bit more comfy. We enjoyed all of their valuable services. The wine and cheese offered the guests plentiful choices (4-5 different bottles and a generous tray of various cheese in addition to strawberries!). We took our treats outside to enjoy the cool breeze, tranquil night, and stargazing. The morning breakfast was fabulous! Hot dishes like eggs, bacon, sausages, or oatmeal; cold dishes like greek yogurt and fruits; orange juice, coffee, tea; you name it, they've got it. Overall, it was an excellent stay. Our only problem was met by the two abrupt instances from housekeeping. We were initially alarmed but Jordan not only reassured us but also compensated us by giving us a discount. My company put me up here for a business trip so I can't speak upon price. It's a small hotel right off the freeway, easy on and off access. It has two restaurants in walking distance. Checked in later on a Sunday night. Guadalupe was AMAZING, made me feel welcome, was helpful and efficient. The rest of the staff I encountered was just as friendly. Stayed for 4 nights. My room~ I ended up with a junior suite. Had a balcony (fit 2 chairs,) with a water view, fire stove and duraflame log provided every night. Desk with large TV, sitting area with chaise lounge and chair, armoire, and all the usual extras. Bed was comfortable, room was clean. Bathroom was great, soaking tub and large shower, nice dispensers that carried EO brand shampoo/conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and hand soap. The also provided bath salts, scrub soap and additional bar soap. Very well stocked. Wine and cheese hour in the early evening (great wines and super great cheese, crackers and fruit.) Staff made sure you were topped off at the end of the wine hour and one hotel guest even sat down in the lounge with the rest of the bottle, staff put it on ice for her. Great view from the lobby overlooking a nice patio and the water. Cookies in the evening. Tea/coffee/water bar, available and fully stocked 24/7. 1 computer desk with internet available. Complimentary mountain bikes also available for use. Elevator or stairs, hotel is only 3 stories. I had a 3 night stay recently. I had my dog with me. We were given a room on the first floor with a patio overlooking the water. It was breathtaking! We were able to take 3-4 mile walks around and near the water every morning. The views were gorgeous. The hotel is centrally located. 1exit away from Tiburon and 1 exit away from Sausalito. A short ferry ride to San Francisco. They have a wonderful full breakfast every morning and a wine and cheese happy hour every night. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The staff was able to tell me about local hikes and restaurants that were delicious and dog friendly. I can hardly wait to return to this beautiful area! read more

Beautiful hotel located 5 miles from the GG Bridge. The staff is outstanding, notably front desk support. Comp breakfast is perfect to start the day and the wine/cheese in the early evening was an outstanding touch. My room was very clean and comfortable with a nice small balcony overlooking the water. Walking paths around the water provide some exercise and scenery, and the use of 29" Mountain bikes are complimentary as well. A wonderful place to get away without being far. read more

I love this boutique hotel! Stayed here for a weekend celebrating my wedding back in April. It was very convenient since my reception was at the nearby Mill Valley community center. Coordinating the rooms with Kristi was a breeze. She was very responsive through email. The only downside to the reservations was that guests had to reserve a minimum of 2 nights, so guests attending my wedding couldn't book a room for just that night. But it was fine since I also had a block at nearby Marriott. The view of the water from the hotel is beautiful. I specifically remember that weekend to be gorgeous, some clouds rolled in but other than that I was so happy with the weather for our wedding. I love how they offer breakfast, and a wine, cookie,cheese hour. The rooms are nice, a tad small but it wasn't bad at all. The bridal suite I had was lovely. We have had so many travel disappointments during this post-pandemic times, but it was so refreshing to stay at a place where the room was clean, well-maintained and the bed was super comfortable. The front desk staff were so friendly and genuinely cared about our stay. I never had a maid tell me that she will get me some ice from the kitchen. The breakfast was a wonderful spread, and we also could order specialty coffee drinks at no extra cost. What a great selection of wine they served at the evening reception. We used the bikes to ride around the water and was given a late checkout time to accommodate us. The only reason I cannot give a 4 star is the noise from the freeway, which didn't bother us at night when we slept, but it is a bit annoying. We may have a new place in the Bay Area. This is a clean and comfortable hotel with a friendly staff and a good breakfast that is included in the reasonable room rates. All of the rooms face Richardson Bay and offer nice views, even on the first floor. While the 101 freeway is on the opposite side, it isn't an issue. read more

Excellent staff (Chris was welcoming when we checked in). For being right next to the freeway, the sound is blocked well with a glass barrier and we only heard sounds of cleaning carts in the morning (no traffic sounds). We stayed in a junior suite and loved the location and the room's overall design. The hotel had free tea, coffee, and cold water 24/7, along with a 5 pm wine and cheese reception and freshly baked cookies each evening at 7 pm. Delicious. The rooftop patio lounge was pretty and cozy, although I avoided it after finding dog hair on the sofa (allergic). It had a lovely view of the surrounding bay. I had emailed in advance with a special request and our room had that taken care of in advance. I knocked off a star because the floor next to our bathroom was warped and I tripped on it and the bathroom shower handle was mildewy (gross). I did notify the staff (Ceara?) about it when we checked out so I'm sure they'll take care of it. read more

My wife, our two dogs, and I enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is beautifully located right on the water. The hotel has an amazing pet policy with no weight limit and a very small fee of $35 for the first night and $15 for every night after. Our dogs were greeted with a very warm welcome and treats every time we passed through the lobby, and they were even given toys as well! They serve wine, cheese, and crackers in the evening as well as freshly baked cookies, which were delicious! breakfast was also very good and had a large variety. The only concern was that, although the rooms were clean and big, they were extremely outdated. read more

Now on to the complimentary breakfast: scrambled eggs, mango chicken breakfast sausage, bacon cooked to perfection, vegetable frittata, deviled eggs, hard boiled eggs-so much fresh fruit, waffles, juices, coffee, rolls, muffins...and the service in the breakfast area picking up dirty plates and cleaning so quickly and efficiently. Beautiful hotel- very serene, great location, nice architecture, clean, with very friendly and helpful staff. I had the pleasure of meeting Jordan at the front desk- such a pleasant and professional fellow. I also spoke with Genevieve on two occasions, also very professional. The rooms are spacious, clean, with super comfy beds that have high thread count linens, and down comforters. The hotel provides bath salts for the soaking tub, as well as toiletry items (body wash, shampoo and conditioner) in dispensers so there's no waste. There is hot a hot coffee/tea station 24/7 in the lobby and cheese/wine reception from 5-6:30. Piatti for Happy Hour/dinner is a great choice and is within walking distance. One of the highlights of the trip was the nice breakfast served on the 2nd floor. (Bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, walnuts, brown sugar, waffle iron, boiled eggs, a huge assortment of different pastries, bagels, toasts, jams, a fresh fruit platter, tea and strong coffee. Truly something for everyone. At the end of my stay, I did a walk around of my room to make sure I didn't forget anything, and on my way home, the staff called to inform me that I had left my iPad. We got room 307 junior suit with fireplace, great view from the room, beautiful sunset. it is next to the highway, but the room is so quite so don't let that worry you, when we arrived I was worried at first but it was so nice and peaceful I was amazed we even slept with the patio door cracked open all night with a nice breeze flowing through. Big bathtub and a stand up shower next to it which I love. When we arrived they put out freshly baked cookies that made the lobby smell heavenly the ladies at the desk were very sweet and the cookies were delicious! also served us wine as we had just missed the wine and cheese they put out we got here a little late being it was a last minute decision to leave town and come here we loved the complimentary breakfest! More then what most hotels I've been to give very big selection, they have coffee tea orange juice breads pastries scrambled eggs vegetarian frittata variety of fresh fruits sausages bacon waffles and even freshly made oatmeal and three kinds of cereal. We ate and headed back to the room to enjoy the sun rising and the view of the water and mt tamalpais. We will def be back. Service is great very friendly ladies. "Convenience meets bayside oasis" is what it says on Acqua's website. And I can't think of a better description for this Mill Valley hotel. It's located right off the highway 101, just a 10-minute drive from the Golden Gate Bridge. So you're close enough yet far enough away from the streets of San Francisco. Per its name, the hotel boasts beautiful waterfront views of Richardson Bay and Mt. Tamalpais. Although they don't have an in-house restaurant, you are walking/driving distance to a number of nearby restaurants (eg Piatti, Robato Grill, etc). The rooms aren't fancy, but they're clean and comfy with all the basic amenities (internet, cable tv, shower/bathtub, AC, ironing board, etc.) . And let's face it, that's all you really need. This isn't a resort. You don't come to Acqua for a weekend getaway. This is a place to sleep/relax before you venture off to a business meeting or a day of play in SF/Marin. Rooms range in the $250 - $280 price range/night. They have plenty of ample meeting space if you're here on business. They also have a free wine happy hour every day in the lobby. When ever I have guests in town, I always encourage them to stay here instead of an expensive SF hotel. And for the record, every one of those guests has been satisfied with their Acqua experience. read more

There are Pet Friendly hotels that "allow you to bring a pet" and then there are Pet Friendly hotels and "welcome your pet". I was quite surprised to find that Acqua is in that latter category. We were in Mill Valley for the afternoon and dinner this Saturday and were also invited to join my parents in Napa for some wine tasting on Sunday. So at the last minute we decided to do both and to stay up there in order to avoid 2 days of driving. But what to do about our dog? Too late to find a sitter, so for the first time we brought her along for an overnight hotel stay. So I made the reservation on-line at Acqua and noted the dog would be joining us. (BTW, Mill Valley Inn was my other choice but they were booked up). We arrived at 6:30 - having just missed the wine and cheese hour. But the gentleman checking us in ran over and got us each a glass of wine anyway. We then went to our 1st floor room (pets stay on the 1st floor) and were very pleasantly surprised to find that not only were we upgraded to a small Junior suite with a King bed (probably because I am a member of the Joy of Life club), but that there was also a dog bed for our lab - and a water bowl! I was concerned about the proximity of the freeway and frontage road, but once in the room we didn't hear a thing. And when I took the lab out of the slider on to the lawn area facing the bay, there road noise was a low murmur. Speaking of the bay, the view from the room is great. The location is very nice. And there is a walking trail that runs right by the property and a little mini-pier that had a fisherman in the morning trying to get some striped bass. The lawn area out back is perfect for the dogs to run around, there are benches facing the water, and a second floor landing area you can relax on in nice weather. The next morning I saw three other dogs walking their masters, yet during the evening and night I didn't hear a peep from any of them. BTW, they have you sign a contract when you check in with a pet agreeing to pay for any needed cleaning and that you will pick up any messes on the grounds. And as I mentioned, all pets stay on the first floor - I assume this is to keep the other floors free of smells, dander, etc. The "continental" breakfast the next morning was one of the nicest continental breakfasts I have had in a while. As one reviewer pointed out, there are no hot eggs/sausage/etc - but it is advertised as a continental breakfast. And they delivered more than what was expected. They had many types of muffins, a selection of bagels and breads with a toaster and the various spreads, waffle makers, lots of fruit (bananas, strawberries, citrus, melons, etc), yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cereal, juices, and so much more. And yes they do have an espresso machine and will whip you up a latte, capacino, or whatever else you request. So in summary - Pros: - Pet welcoming - even including a dog bed - Great view of the water - Friendly staff - Excellent continental breakfast - Espresso machine in breakfast area - Wine and cheese hour - Spacious bathroom - Comfortable bed - AAA rate for room saved us $18 - 1st floor room has patio that leads right to lawn area - quality bath products including bath salts for the tub Cons: - Wine and cheese hour is now only from 5-6 - A couple more towels in room would have been nice - Sliding door to patio difficult to slide I would definitely stay here again. read more

Pros: - Hot Breakfast comes with the rooms and is served at a decent hour. -Beautiful trails right along the water. - Clean - Pretty quiet - Lobby is very pretty Cons: - Right on a busy highway so you can't open the windows without hearing the noise - Rooms are very bland...almost like a dorm room. - Curtains were ripped is multiple places. Really bad. - Fireplace is not a fireplace but a small potbelly stove. - The room was really hot at night even with air conditioning. - In an industrial area...the hotel seems like it might have been an office building that was converted into a hotel. The shape of the rooms are odd. - Shower head was not adjustable. Could not adjust the fact that the water sprayed directly in to my face. You're better off staying some place else if you can. This hotel is amazing! What beautiful views. Everything is clean and smells nice. The couch is the roomiest I've ever seen. Another person could sleep in it because it's honestly the size of a twin bed. The breakfast is my favorite part. Every little attention to detail was nice. The usual continental buffet stuff: bagels, toast, oatmeal, waffles, yogurt, fruit, and cereal. But here's the thing...they have a little refrigerated case where they keep the butter, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and cream cheese. I've never seen a hotel do that before! The breakfast deserved 5 stars. The only reason this hotel isn't a 5 for me is because it doesn't have room service. It's a little thing, but I didn't get in until 9pm, and I was hungry and exhausted. I didn't want to go out again after flying and driving so long. It would've been nice since there aren't any fast food places around. The other reason it's not a 5 is because of closet space. There is really only room to store one suitcase. read more

We just recently had our wedding there and had the best experience with the hotel and staff. Most of our family and friends flew in from the east coast and stayed at the Acqua for their entire stay. Everyone commented on how relaxing and beautiful the hotel was. Their morning breakfast set up is perfect after a long night celebrating with friends. As a person who openly admits his caffeine addiction, I can honestly say that Acqua has some of the best coffee! There is even someone there who can make espressos and lattes if that is your preference. Another big bonus is that they have soy milk. As for the rooms, we had one of the largest suites and it was a great size with a bathtub that could easily fit two. The staff was excellent and always accommodating. They handed out all of our "out of town" gift bags with amazing efficiency. Not only were they always on top of our guests needs they also called everyone from our wedding party taxis so we could go out after the reception. Summary: I would recommend this place to anyone. We needed a place to stay for our back to back Holiday parties and were not trying to pay $250+ per night just to set up home base somewhere in Marin County for the weekend. This hotel has modern decor, is clean, offers a hot breakfast buffet, and has wonderful customer service. Just what we needed! :) Vibe: The lobby has a fireplace and a waterfall wall which provide a serene environment. Since it's Christmas Time the lobby is decorated with a tree, lights, poinsettias, etc. Rooms are clean, have comfy beds and pillows, have EO Products, and over look the water and Mount Tam. Other stuff: A stay here includes a hot breakfast buffet which includes crispy bacon, chicken apple sausage links, scrambled eggs, sweet- sweet fruit assortments, waffles, coffee, ( amazing) orange Juice, oatmeal, and all the other basic breakfast items like muffins, cereal, and yogurt. They even have someone on deck who can make you a mocha or latte! Coffee and tea is available all day, they make fresh baked cookies mid-day, and have a wine and cheese reception in the evening. They even have complimentary bikes you can use during your stay to explore Sausalito, Mill Valley, or even the Golden Gate Bridge. We went for a bike ride through the redwoods nearby... Beautiful! The only thing I would change would be adding a mirror of some sort in the bedroom (the only one is in bathroom) so I had to wait for my bf to finish showering before I could continue to get ready and the rooms are a little on the small side compared to others, but realistically it's enough for two people. But other than that, this place comes highly recommended when looking for a cozy hotel, that is clean and offers breakfast in the Mill Valley area. (Tip: check Hotel Tonight when planning a last minute getaway.. We got our room about $80 cheaper per night doing that.) read more

We splurged and stayed in the king suite for a friends wedding. I'm not sure this is always the case, but we had to stay a minimum of 2 nights. I was OK with that, my bank account probably wasn't so happy haha. The king suite view was amazing, the terrace overlooking the water on foggy mornings was amazing. Their breakfast, which was included, was one of the best I've ever had. You were able to order espresso drinks if you'd like, which was a big plus for me. Exactly as advertised! We came here for a romantic getaway weekend and it was fabulous. The breakfast had so many options and had all the good stuff. Coffee and tea 24/7. The wine and cheese happy hour is wonderful and we definitely indulged in that and the fresh cookies! Beautiful views of the water, great staff and service. Really lovely hotel with everything you would need besides a gym. Wine+cheese every day at 5:30 and cookie at 7. Breakfast has nice spread but a cappuccino I asked for just never came. Rooms are large and beds are comfortable. Check-in ladies are really nice but can make strange comments. (One of them hates Bard College LOL) She also made a huge deal about giving me free upgrade for a fireplace but honestly I couldn't care less about it. They have Equator coffee here but if Equator is the best coffee you can find in this town I recommend just going with Starbucks. Great WATERFRONT views. My walk around the shore was so lovely (don't miss out on the geese and flowers etc). I am forever jealous of the people living on this bay. 5 stars for the location alone. read more

We stayed here for our wedding weekend, and we were very impressed with the hotel, the service, the delicious breakfast, and their location. The staff was friendly and helpful. When we asked questions they figured out the answers & when we asked for things to be brought to our room they were there quickly. Simple but wonderful. The breakfast was better than almost any other continental breakfast I've ever had! They had a large variety to offer: waffles, bacon, espresso, fresh fruit, cereal, etc. . . The location is extremely close to the freeway on/off ramps. This might make you think the worst, but we didn't hear any traffic and it made our journeys away from the hotel a breeze. Hiking, movies, shopping, & sight seeing are all only 10 - 15 minutes away! Plus, their included bikes are a great way to get around for a little extra exercise. read more

It is a really well put together hotel, but definitely not worth the price at the service level and with a number of downsides. First of all, the decor past the lobby is virtually nonexistent. Both of us are from Eastern European countries and it is quite....familiar. The hallways are literal grey concrete, from the floors to the ceiling, no carpet, no art. Quite dreary. No pool, instead, they have a ridiculous empty field. Yes, priorities. No turn down service or maid at all, due to Covid. Staff is very nice but what kind of hotel has no earplugs on hand, even to buy? Breakfast was very good but there is definitely no refills on food; what goes out at 7am goes out, and any later, you get the left overs. No pastries at all available even at 830am. No dining table in the rooms, which are very Spartan, forcing you to eat on the bed or at the desk. Parking is sparse and the satellite lot is very empty and does not seem properly secured. Location is....strange. On the end of a road in Mill Valley on the edge of Corte Madera, not centrally located. The benefits of the hotel are the amazingly nice staff and the quiet. Rooms are very well insulated and you hear nothing. I'm not really sure what the hotel is marketed at or intended to function as. read more

This was such a beautiful hotel! Our room (a junior suite) faced the water and Mt. Tam in the distance. The staff was helpful and friendly, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. Since their bar was closed, they had given us a goody bag filled with water, cookies, and wine! They also still provided free breakfast, and due to COVID there was no buffet, but we were able to easily select which food we wanted for breakfast and hotel staff prepared it for us separately. We will definitely come back here again. You can easily overlook this hotel off the freeway but it is honestly a gem! read more
