Upon arriving, the staff warmly welcomed me and quickly directed me to my family's table, as they had arrived first. Our waitress was friendly and happy to answer any questions or offer suggestions. We visited on Mother's Day, so the restaurant was offering a special menu. While it would've been nice to also view the regular menu, we understood it might be due to the fact that everything is homemade and made to order. The calamari was perfectly cooked--not overly breaded--and the bruschetta was delicious, especially since it's one of my favorite appetizers. The complimentary bread paired nicely with the olive oil. My personal favorite was the stuffed salmon, it was flavorful, and served with an orzo-style grain. The food came out all at the same time (not sure how they did that) and I felt like there was always someone nearby to help with any questions or issues. Everyone loved their food and many took some food home because the portions were large. And honestly compared to a lot of other places I thought it was quite reasonable. Acquaviva is soooo close to being a great restaurant. The vibe is upscale suburban chill. Good energy and welcoming decor without an ounce of pretension. The service was exceptional. Attentive, responsive and knowledgeable. The food has potential, but is not quite there. Bigger portions and great value. It's just missing that little extra to get into the 5 star category. Example? Lamb chops ordered medium rare shouldn't come medium well. The octopus shouldn't be grilled like it just came out of a Jules Verne novel. Cut it, then grill it, so that huge portion cooks evenly. Ease up on the capers on the chicken pinata, and plate your delicious tiramasu like it wasn't the last portion out of the pan. The value for Acquaviva is very, very good. With just a little more attention to food detail it would be between exceptional and incredible. read more

So the renovations here definitely make this restaurant look a bit better but it's still has awkward seating with very little privacy and it feels very crowded. The menu does not impress me. Nothing on it caught my eye or made me excited to eat here. I had the chicken saltimbocca and it was extremely salty, and I like salt. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. Stopped in a bit early because I knew the restaurant would fill up quickly on a Saturday. Seats open at the bar. Perfect. And televisions with college football games on. Better yet. Our server was solid. Granted it was pretty quiet when we arrived, but the bartender was friendly and attentive. Now on to the food. Started with baked, breaded clams in white wine. Terrible. They were too large for starters. Chewy too. I prefer little neck clams. Not a good start. I opted to go with one of the specials for my entree, veal with artichokes in a lemon, white wine sauce. It was quite good. The veal was tender. The sauce was a perfect accompaniment. Started off the evening with a wine tasting. There was no reservation needed for this. We tried 6 different samples of wine of our choice from a loat for $12. Following the tasting, we stayed for dinner. They were very flexible with adjusting our dinner reservation that evning. Our waitress was extremely friendly. She offered recommendations and helped customize some items, for example, adding spice to something when it did it come spicy. Everything was delicious, and we left happy and full. Had another great experience and great food at my last visit here. Took my son and his wife and they loved it. I had the Salmon, son had the lamb chops and his wife had the white fish. We all gave the food a and the ambience 5 stars. It ws also half price wine (bottle) night and we had one of their reds which was excellent. If I could I would take of a half star because of our waitress. She was great except she seemed to be hurrying us to order. Not sure why the place was only half full at best. The last two times I have been here on a week night the place was less than half full. Hope they make it, they have great food for a reasonable cost. read more

Slower than slow service, average food and drinks and just ok atmosphere. Dinner with a group and I was incredibly disappointed. I felt as though our table was constantly forgotten about. I would notice our server look at our table as she's passing by to get to another table and then come back to ours (as if oops, I forgot about them). Every time!, whether it was drinks, food or dessert. I ordered a pizza with arugula, prosciutto and cheese which was average. I wish the cheese was browned more. Since I'd never been there before, I wasn't sure what to expect. Two people at my table had pasta and that tasted better than mine (hence the 2 stars). The second martini I had seemed as though it didn't have as much liquor in it. I probably should've gotten the wine but, oh well. Dessert time, we had to ask for a menu instead of our server taking a cue that our table was done with dinner so, bring on the menu.... Atmosphere was slightly loud but overall nothing amazing. This is a favorite for family birthday dinners. The people who work here are super nice, I believe many are family members. We love the grilled calamari and octopus. Lots of pasta options and good steaks. They make their own wine and while it's not something I'd buy for home, we always get a bottle. read more

We started off by sampling their red wines and warm bread and olive oil for dipping. We only had apps (the artichokes and mussels) and they were simply amazing. The white sauce had great flavors and compliments the Prince Edward Mussels. I have never had Prince Edward Mussels before. They were the largest smoothest tasting mussels I've ever had and they almost melted in your mouth. The artichokes was served in a creamy cheese sauce and I'm sure the calories of both apps were off the chart! Post pandemic, businesses such as these are having a difficult time finding help. Understanding this may help you to understand service can be slow at times or items to not be available at times but Chloe seems to have that in check as our food arrived quickly and she stepped in to serve and fill In elsewhere. Again this was my first visit so when I heard this singing like opera man at the corner of the bar I was then educated that is the owner Vito. He often sings to patrons. We've been going to Acquaviva Batavia since December 2024 and EVERY MEAL HAS BEEN DELICIOUS. I was raised Italian, so I'm very critical of Italian restaurants, but not this one: it's the best Northern Italian food AND WINE in a really beautiful contemporary setting. The seafood is outstanding, be it Chilean sea bass, shrimp, scallops, salmon, etc., although the lamb chops, Italian sausage, and steak were equally good...and their Italian bread with olive oil and grated parmesan is the best. We always top the meal off with cappuccino and double expresso with a lemon twist--coffees are always hot, not tepid. As for their deserts - equally tasty and their tiramisu is the real deal, quite yummy. The wait staff is always friendly, food is served timely and with style. What more could you ask for? We will continue to be regulars. read more

What happened!? I have been to this restaurant 3 or 4 times in the past few months. The first visit was after hearing conflicting complaints from friends. I generally order pasta and have enjoyed it here previously. Last night I visited celebrating someone's birthday and I was very disappointed. I ordered Pacherri Mixto de Pesce, which is a thick pasta with a mixture of seafood (monkfish,shrimp, salmon), side of calamari and bruschetta. I won't comment on anyone else's dinner but the appetizers were shared. An impressive plate of calamari was brought to the table first. Every piece of the calamari was as tuff as chewing on a rubber inner tube. It was sent back and credited. I do remember on previous visits the calamari has tended to be rather chewy. I love it but won't be ordering it here again. The bruschetta, amazingly to myself and my wife, was completely tasteless. That i can't understand! My pasta, which was the nights special and most expensive except for the filet, was completely tasteless, like the pasta water wasn't even salted. How do you make seafood pasta tasteless? Two others at the table tried it and agreed that it lacked basic flavor. Wanting to be fair, I took home the pasta and tried it today thinking it would have more flavor today. NOPE. I've generally found that if the food has good flavor, customers will generally not complain too much, so I'm sorry but tasteless pasta? There are no reasons for this, only excuses. read more

On a bit of a whim we ended up at Acquaviva. We had been to the winery & restaurant out in Maple Park previously and knew it to be good. We showed up at 6:30 to dine in and were greeted and seated right away. The menu and specials are Italian and seafood. We ordered the baked clams for an appetizer, the stuffed shrimp special and veal Marsala. Timing was a bit off on the shrimp showing up at the table but everything was great. Good service in these strange post-covid times and really good entrees. Cannot ask for more. Pricing seems a tad high but not bad for this elegant restaurant. read more

A pleasant surprise! A bit of an obscure location tucked away off the main street but the reviews are accurate in the quality and flavor of the food! What a gastro delight Acquaviva was. It was no special occasion- simply getting out more and more as time moves on and it had been a LONG time since we had good old school Italian flair. Ventured out to Geneva because my son recently moved to that area and we were a bit tired of the Schaumburg standard--been there and done a lot of that too many times. It is nice to try new things just outside of your comfort zones! So the entrance is not very attractive but lots of outdoor seating. We opted to sit inside. It is the classic Italian dining room, dimly lit but warm friendly atmosphere and were were seated right away. The bread won us over right away- crusty and warm with a nice olive oil for dipping. We ordered The special sausage with orecchiette, cannelini beans and escarole-absolutely delicious--the classic chicken alfredo- another creamy and delicious dish done right-- and my son decided to go with the zuppa del mar--you know because it was a regular Sunday night LOL. That dish was quite a quite a presentation as it is supposed to be and we couldn't stop reaching into his dish because it was that good. The marinara was light and fresh and surprisingly not fish but rich tasting. The noodles were perfectly aldente and each type of seafood was perfectly prepared and delicious. There was no sand in the mussles, the shrimp tasted fresh, and the calamari was so soft and not a hint of chewyness. Overall it was a great evening of good food and a very nice staff. Parking is a little iffy. I would go back when I am due for some classic Italian home type cooking! read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Need I say more? Well, I will. To start off, we got seated and immediately noticed that there was nowhere near as much food on the actual menu than the online one. We had to ask our waitress for their real menus. Like, why should I need to ask for your full menu? Unbelievable. Next, they were actually out of many of the items on the full menu. So, we ordered. We got our food, everything's alright, until I cut into my steak. I ordered a medium rare, but got a completely grey steak. Not a big deal, but the steak came with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and carrots. On the menu, the steak came with broccoli, PARMESAN-CRUSTED TOMATOES, and a choice of mashed or roasted potatoes. I ordered roasted. But, how do you put the wrong assigned side on your menu? My mother, who ordered a chicken marsala, was unpleasantly surprised with the taste of it. I know, it's not something the cook can really control without changing the recipe, but this did not taste like a chicken marsala. It also came smothered in onions, practically buried in them! Next, my father ordered the baked paccheri, which came very overcooked. Somehow, it also came with an entirely different type of pasta in it! How is that possible? In this whole time, our waitress had not checked in on us once. When she did, she somehow couldn't see how everyone had barely touched their food. She just walked away, and proceeded to ask the next table how everyone's food was. This whole dinner was just unbelievable, and overall it was a terrible experience. Never again. read more

I had such a great tour and dinner at the Acquaviva Winery in Maple Park, so we made Valentine's Day reservations at the Batavia restaurant. There was a special V-Day menu for the evening, semi-dim lights and candles on each table.  Nice ambiance.  The service was friendly and attentive. I ordered a glass of Christmas wine, which was delicious (reminds me of Glogg - yum), and then a glass of sangria.  I don't know if they had their usual meals available, but we only received menus with the V-Day specials.   I was a little shocked at the $30 price of pasta with stuffed shrimp, but I ordered anyway.  The crab tasted as if it were from a can or frozen, so I wasn't a huge fan, but the shrimp was cooked perfectly.  There were about 4-5 large shrimp atop the pasta.  I would have maybe priced it at $20 at the highest.  My leftovers didn't heat up as well the next day.  Hubs devoured his entire steak, scallop and veggie meal.  All in all it was a nice experience and dinner, but I'm not sure we will be back - there's far too many restaurants to try these days! read more
