They misdiagnosed & fixed what wasn't broken CHARGED US $685 for it. Then fixed the correct part and left my cigarette lighter cords out. My consul display is now DIM and they charged an additional $1800 after taking over a month. We finally got in touch with the manager & requested a discount he never returned our call. But did leave a message saying they were gonna start charging a STORAGE FEE!!! He made sure he was not there when we picked car from shop. NEVER AGAIN read more

I have been going to Action Auto on and off for about 3+ years now. Every time I bring my truck in, they recommend repairs way before they become a huge problem. I like to call them the "Car Whisperers" because they truly know what they are doing and they know what your vehicle needs. David was the mechanic that worked on my 2012 Chevy Tahoe and he did a phenomenal job! I will always support family-owned businesses like them, because they are the backbone of the United States. I live in the neighborhood, and admittedly went there the first time due to convenience. Now, 2 years later, I am so lucky to have found such a great auto shop. My wife and I have given them our complete trust and we know if they say it needs to be fixed, it really does. Family owned, great business, great prices, extremely prompt on service and phone-call updates. Lastly, their mechanics don't earn commission, so they have no incentive to up-sell or lie to you. I'll first say that the work done by Action Auto seems good on our vehicle...no worries about quality at this point. We had brakes done on our car and the quote they gave us was about $500 less than what the total cost would be (Quote was $350, actual was $850)...the part that's really challenging is they went ahead and did the work, prior to telling us they'd surpass the quote. I was really disappointed because we could have had the same work done which they ended up doing somewhere else, for about $300 less. All told, I feel a bit like they did a bit of a bait and switch. If I knew before what I do now, i would have pressed them more on if they're quote really included everything they said it did. They did give $50 off the bill because of it, but we're still out $250 more than we could have been. Shame on us for not being more careful...just sad, because we were recommended this place by many of our friends. Guess we'll have to take our business elsewhere. :( read more

I brought my car in for a brake job after a couple years of general negligence. I am just over 100k miles so it was no shock that they had many recommendations for additional repair other than brakes. They called before doing any work and explained in detail what was needed. I was able to decide what I wanted done and what I would like to postpone or do myself. When I advised what I would like them to skip doing, they didn't lecture me or question why I didn't want that particular service done. They were very patient. I felt that their prices were very fair. Much less expensive than chain shops. My total ended up being less than what was quoted as a particular job (replacing a seal) took less time than they had anticipated. Through personal experience, I know a lot of shops charge for the hours that is standard for a particular job regardless of the hours it ends up taking. I almost expect it at this point and was shocked that they were honest about the hours worked. I tend to avoid car repairs due to the fear of getting ripped off and generally dealing with poor business practices that are common with car repairs. I was so pleasantly surprised that this is not at all the case at Action Auto. I will absolutely be back and will likely take better care of my car because I feel comfortable with the staff and the business. read more

Kurt and his guys are the best. They don't make up issues and give you the honest details. This is pretty much the only place we go with any car past warrantee and they have done great things with some of our oldest cars. read more

Hands down a 5+ star auto shop. By nature I think most people are suspicious of auto repair shops thinking they have financial interest in mind. However after coming across Action Auto over a year ago I will not bring my car anywhere else. As someone who takes a lot of pride in their car, I leave my car with them knowing it's in great hands and that they will not miss a thing. These guys have mastered customer service. I mentioned my car had an oil leak so they provided me with something to dry up the oil on my garage floor. And they have more than 15 loaner cars! Which makes my life so much easier. These guys always go above and beyond and treat you like you're their only customer. They remember me every time I come in. I recently left my lunch box there after picking up my car. I moved to Minneapolis this winter and was looking for a highly recommended mechanic. Action Auto had great reviews and was close to my new home, and when I called they were always polite and accommodating. They repaired two burnt-out headlamps and one of my wheel bearings on my car, but they also insisted on other repairs I wasn't aware of, which with these other repairs would total over $2000. I was only able to do half of the repairs because- truth be told- I don't make very much and I had some serious medical expenses this spring. I told them I couldn't afford to do it all and would return in June with the rest of the money. When I called back I was told my struts still needed to be replaced for around $1200. I asked a friend for some advice on how to pay. Instead he referred me to a mechanic friend of his who specializes in struts and alignments in Golden Valley to check out how serious the problem was. When I arrived he put my car on the hoist and tested the struts for bouncing and leakage. "Wait- what was the problem with your struts?" he asked. I explained to him what happened and he informed me there was nothing wrong with my struts at all and had been taken for a ride. "Unfortunately, this is a sad reflection on other people in my business," he informed me. "In the future, when someone tells you that there's a problem with your car, make sure they show you the problem and research it yourself. You can't trust everyone." I drove away from his garage feeling sick to my stomach. Although I had avoided being ripped off of $1200, it didn't feel too great. On top of that this the mechanic, my ride and myself had been inconvenienced by setting aside the time and traveling to meet one another for nothing. I won't be returning to Action Auto again. read more

This is the best auto shop I've ever visited! The family atmosphere at Action Auto is one-of-a-kind, whether you're actually part of the family who owns and runs the business or part of their family as a customer. I have been helped time and time again for nearly a decade by Action Auto and although I now live three hours away from Minneapolis, I still go out of my way to make sure they are the people who are doing repair work on my vehicles or giving me advice about my automotive questions. Trust and respect for their customers appear to be their top priorities and they deliver an excellent experience every time, which has included a loaner car, occasionally same-day service, and quality I can count on at prices they clearly communicate. When it comes to my car, I'm very skeptical about who does the work and who I would refer people to visit and Action Auto earned my trust and my respect from day 1 and I would tell anyone who's looking for a trustworthy and fair mechanic to visit them. Not to mention, they also do fundraisers for families in need where they donate profits from work to the families! I've been at their shop on a day when they've raised thousands of dollars for a family! I met john and the team at Action Auto when they were doing a benefit for a friend of my wife's and they were donating all of the profits to he cause on a Saturday!! I got a great feeling from the family owned shop an have since only gone there and have referred many others there as well. Just recently I was driving out to seattle and wanted AA to give my car the once over. I knew I needed breaks, but when he called he said there was a couple of other minor things, but that I didn't need them fixed now, and could hold off for another 6 months...he didn't try to get me to fix anything that wasn't needed! I picked the car up on Friday, the. on Saturday evening I noticed it was pulling. I was able to get ahold of the shop, and john knowing I was leaning early Monday morning CAME IN ON SUNDAY TO FIX MY ALIGNMENT!!! Unfortunately I've moved to Seattle and will have to try and find another honest mechanic who CARES MORE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, than making a profit.
