I can walk there if I need to and their roof top, outdoor seating, indoor lounge/tv, and several comfy booths are a great place to do my work if I am going to wait around for the repair. I had an oil change done here which resulted in damage to my engine oil cooler that required replacement at another shop the next time I got my oil changed. The technician at the second shop documented that the mating surface was visibly bent -- consistent with a severely over-tightened filter from the previous service. I reached out to Bobby & Steve's with photos, both service receipts, and the technician's written finding. They dismissed the claim, suggesting it was a known part defect -- one that only affects the 3.6L V6 engine. My car has a 4-cylinder, so that explanation doesn't apply. After a follow-up email, I received no response. I'd recommend going elsewhere for service. read more

This business is positioned right on the edge of the University of Minnesota. So, it goes without saying that they likely get a lot of students. It appears as though they charge a premium even without actually fixing anything. Not good business and not a reputable shop I'd recommend. Most auto shops will diagnose at no charge and then, if there is an issue to resolve, talk to you about a possible fix or solution. When I spoke to the service agent and asked for a detailed breakdown over the phone he advised that the technician, "had to look up stuff". No breakdown, checklist, punch list or anything. I DO NOT recommend this operation. It's unfortunate though as they seem to have the only shop in the general vicinity of campus. read more

Do not bring your vehicle here they will rip you off $205 for a picture diagnostics when they didn't even drive. The vehicle told me the vehicle would start, but yet when I come back to pick it up, it didn't start absolutely the worst excuse for a mechanic shop. Trying to charge dealership prices and almost trying to charge us over $4000 for something that we didn't even request to be fixed when our vehicle wasn't running. read more

I have mixed feelings about Bobby and Steve's Auto World. I live really close to this gas station, and while I almost never actually get gas here (because prices are so expensive), I do visit quite a bit for other reasons. The car wash is probably the top reason that I come here. While it's not the best automatic car wash I've ever used, the price is right and it does a descent job of cleaning our cars. I do appreciate how there are actual brushes in the car wash; the "touchless" car washes that seem to be gaining popularity don't do as good of a job at getting dirt off. We had our car detailed here once; again, the price is right, but the service matched the price, meaning the result was above average but nowhere near perfect. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on a detail but the inside and/or outside of your car is really dirty, this is a good option. The convenience store is another reason I visit a lot. From buying a newspaper to getting cold drinks to car supplies, the store here is pretty well stocked. All of my interactions with staff here have always been extremely pleasant. While there are *definitely* cheaper places for gas in the area, Bobby and Steve's offers competitively-priced vehicle services and a well-stocked convenience store. read more

It was a fail all around. I should have brought a man. They overcharged and gave me a new problem. They pretended to fix my exhaust and left me with a rattle and a loose heat shield. I came back twice in the next three days. They were rude and disrespetful and didnt even pretend to care, they did nothing, not even tighten the screws on the muffler. Ladies, stay away!!! Came here for lunch seen as how I was working down the street. They have hot sandwiches to go and a great selection of chips and drinks. Gas station looked clean and they even have an auto body shop. It's kind of out of my way unless I'm working down there. It's right off 35W but is on the other side of the median so it can be tricky to get to and from depending on which direction your going. read more

I was not pleased with my experience here. I came here to get my car door handle fixed and explained to them that the driver's side cable had been broken. I was initially charged 200$ for them to do an inspection on this and tell me that the driver's side cable was broken. I was then charged another 200$ in labor for them to make the repair on top of the 13$ for the part. While these labor prices seem to be very high (175$ before tax) even in the Minneapolis area, I was made aware of them fairly and agreed to them because of this shop's convienent location. I became frusturated when they told me, after making the repair, that there was a spring in my door handle that was also broken. But because they noticed after putting the door back on, this would cost me another hour or two of labor + parts to fix. I would expect something like that would have been found in the initial 200$ inspection. I did not get this fixed here. Also, from what I have read online a door handle cable fix does not seem to take most mechanics two hours. Not a fan of the price or quality of the fix they provided. read more

Sigh...I really love Bobby & Steve's...been supporting them for years. Especially late at night after concerts, bar nights, etc. I love the atmosphere, the design of the store is dope, and you always run into someone you know. BUT they kinda had me f***ed up today. Every month we pay for roadside assistance through our insurance and Bobby and Steve's has a contract with them to help when needed. So in my time of need, they left me high and dry. Now, on the flip side, I understand that there were a TON of ppl in distress over the past couple of days due to the extreme weather conditions here in MN (-30 degree temps, extreme windchills etc. ) They had a tremendous deal of calls and request for tows and other help; numbers I cannot even fathom. However, my disappointment comes because they actually sent out an ETA as to when they would be there to assist me and they NEVER SHOWED. I had already been sitting in my location for about an hour already when they sent the ETA, because I was on hold with my insurance the entire time. Luckily, I didn't have my 3 year old son with me...I was just off of a super busy street with no where to walk safely. I waited almost four hours before I could get help, and that was because my fiancé and a friend of ours came to the rescue. They took the tire off, bought it to the tire shop, and replaced it. Seems simple right? Actually, we had to pull a ton of strings to make this all happen...Thank God for good friends!! Our insurance was apologizing like crazy for not being able to secure a rescue; she said that's never happened before where they contact a provider, commit to a service and never show up. The killer part is she also couldn't understand why they wouldn't even answer the phone. She stayed on hold for an hour trying to contact someone in customer service and just had to give up saying, "I don't think they're coming." I caught a flat around 12:30, and we got home at 6:30 that evening. My entire day was ruined. Around 9:55 during family night, I received a call from the tow truck guy from Bobby and Steve's saying he was ready to tow the car...only reason I gave them two stars is because he called. My car broke down on a Sunday so I was strapped as to where I could take my car. I had another place in mind, but my tow truck driver (who works for Bobby &Steves) told me that they do an hour of diagnostic assessment for free and offered a discount for AAA customers. None of this was true. When I mentioned all of this to the mechanic at the front desk he just rolled his eyes at me and bitched about how much Volvos suck... ok Whatever, I'm not here for ambience... but still, incredibly rude and also this is my first hiccup in several years with an old car so come on guys. Anyway, 3 days later I finally get a call informing me that the repairs to my car would total almost $1700, saying the part itself was $1400 and that cost was only if "they didn't find anything else wrong". Also that it would take an additional 2/3 days to even get the replacement part. I was pretty shocked so called around and found Tommy's garage in Hopkins. After two days my car is back up and running for $900 total, they charged about $800 for the part. These a-holes are the reason people don't trust mechanics, avoid at all costs. read more

*01/02/2023* Please read this before you make the horrible decision to bring your car here. Majority of these reviews are fairly close to my experience as well. My vehicle is a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. While driving, my oil light started flashing due to a sensor being out. My car began doing a safety shut off to prevent further harm. I had my car towed to Bobby and Steve's because it was close to my job. My car arrived on their property after hours and I was told to call them in the morning. When I called the next morning, I was told that because I own a Hyundai Elantra (very commonly stolen) they were going to charge $50 per day for "storage". I thought this was crazy but money wasn't a concern as long as they fixed the issue. I explained what was wrong and was told they would run diagnostics on it "today or tomorrow" They didn't expect me to later on that day show up at the shop. I take extremely good care of my car so I arrived to see where is was "stored". It hadn't even left the spot it was towed to. I walked in and said "if I'm being charged for storage why is my car in the middle of a parking lot still" and was told "we just tell people that so they know we're serious about fixing their car". What. I'm not sure what this persons name was but it started with a B and he works the front desk. He proceeded to read me notes the mechanic Paul had written about my diagnostics. He stated "vehicle has been driven 10,500+ miles since last oil change and oil is black". I perform my own oil changes and it was changed 3,000 miles ago but sure. He then said "When car was started and accelerated, oil thinned out and engine is failing". So I need a new engine on a car that still runs and had no prior issues at all? His response was "yea that's what most people say when they need a new engine". I was beyond irritated at this point because the mechanic Paul couldn't even look me in the eyes and walked away. I'm not a mechanic but I am a female that knows more about my car than you think. The following morning I called a tow truck with my AAA to take my car directly to a dealership so I wouldn't have to deal with these people thinking I'm incompetent. The tow truck driver calls me and says I need to go inside the shop for an outstanding balance on my vehicle. This is when I found out my tow truck is one of Bobby and Steve's tow trucks. Of course it was. I walked in and I was visibly shaking from how angry I was. They told me my estimate for a new engine would be $5,800. I said I'm currently towing my vehicle out right now and I want my keys. The outstanding balance I owed was $174 for the diagnostics. I paid it and left. This happened yesterday and today my mechanic from the dealership called me and said it's my cam shaft sensor. They drove it for 8 miles with 0 issues and is now available for pickup. I just paid $800 for a sensor and an oil change VS a $5,800 new engine on a car that doesn't need it. I'm so disgusted in the fact that Bobby and Steve's employees think it's a joke to mess with peoples lives. I could afford a new engine if that was truly the issue but what if I couldn't or someone else couldn't. They'd be paying for nothing. $5,800 could be someone's life savings. From the other reviews I've read it's clear that this is a reoccurring issue that needs to be addressed. This is an extremely unprofessional business and I'm surprised they haven't been sued yet. In one review they "forgot" to bolt someone's brakes properly and almost killed the driver. I'm going to be taking this complaint as high as I can go with it. Take this as a serious warning to never bring your vehicle here. In my case, I saved thousands by taking it to the dealership. read more

If your waiting for services on your vehicle you can stop by the full kitchen restaurants, including God Fathers pizza's and light ready to eat meals like chicken wraps and fresh made sandwiches and even a BBQ grilling burgers and dogs in the summer. if that not enough options for you they have a mini super market in the back with everything from Ice Cream to frozen Pizza's. The upstairs has a seating area and a balcony ( open in the summer.) This is your once stop shop if you are on this town and need to accomplish allot in a short time. I would highly advise not bringing your car here for service. We called ahead and spoke to the service tech, letting them know we needed a transmission flush and fill as the fluid in our newly purchased car was running low, and wanted to get this done asap to avoid any damage to the transmission. We dropped off the car, and an hour later we got a call saying they couldn't do it because it needed a special tool (which doesn't seem accurate after some research) and the fluid was very expensive (but they didn't ask if we were just willing to pay more) - even though we had given them the make and model of the car on the phone. We said ok, went to pick up the car, drove the car 30 feet, not even out of the parking lot, and realized it was making a clicking noise that it wasn't making when we dropped it off an hour earlier. We turned the car right around and went back inside - the tech said that he noticed the clicking when he did a test drive. The car was not clicking when we dropped it off, it needed a transmission flush and we told them the issue with it, so why a test drive? It seems that the tech test drove the car, tried to recreate the issue we explained to him by slamming on the brakes but with low transmission fluid, he ended up destroying the rear-differential in the vehicle. They said they'd have a master tech look at it the next day, who confirmed the rear differential issue but took no responsibility. We talked to the manager/owner on Monday who again, took no responsibility, told us they wouldn't work on the car and then forced us to leave. The car is no longer drivable so we had it towed to another shop where we got a quote for $5000 to fix the issue that didn't exist when we dropped the vehicle off. We have a video from our security camera that shows us heading to the shop to drop the car off (barely 1 mile from our home) and the car is not making any noise, which they wouldn't even look at. My wife and I both work in the service industry and my father in law owned an auto-shop for almost 30 years. I know this is a tough business and these shops deal with a lot of flack from people. But we are not those people. We simply have a $5000 issue on our vehicle that didn't exist when we dropped our car off at Bobby & Steve's. The dishonesty is maddening and I'm so disappointed in the service and the lack of accountability from this company - I cannot imagine running my business like this. read more

I had been (up until now) a loyal Bobby & Steve's customer. They have done work on several of our cars over the last several years. Fast forward to today: my son in college had some major work to be done on his car - so we took it to our friends at Bobby & Steve's - or so we thought. While we were in the process making the decision to go forward or not with an engine rebuild, the aptly named BS unilaterally decided to tow his car to their impound lot where it began to accrue $35/day in charges. We had no idea - until they sent us a registered letter dated 10/15 - but of course, they began the charges 10 days earlier on 10/6. Total bill was almost $600 to out a car that is basically totaled. If you are thinking of using Bobby & Steve's for ANYTHING - and you don't have a crisp plan and all the decisions made in advance DO NOT USE THEM AS YOU CANNOT TRUST THEM. They will tow your car at your expense to their caged impound in Bloomington and proceed to charge you by the day without your knowledge. Absolutely ridiculous. They just lost yet another customer, and I hope this review opens others' eyes as their marketing belies the truth - that they are not honest brokers and are going to make their money one way or the other. Bobby and Steve's probably has the nicest group of people working here. I'm never let down. I frequent this place because its close to my work and I like the people there. I'm always greeted, and almost always thanked by name at least when I'm using my card. There is one individual,Braden,who always makes my day when I go in. He's delightful, friendly and a joy to see when I go in to purchase whatever convenience I need for the day. Also enjoy their promotional cookouts that they have every once in awhile. As a disclaimer, my review's purely focused on their fried chicken and nothing else. I've never gone there for their auto service so I can't comment on the quality of that portion of their business. With that said, I am absolutely hooked with their mighty damn fine fried chicken. I guess I lucked out since they just finished making a new batch when I got there. When I took the first bite, I was in a five-second bliss with the perfectly crunchy and delishly marinated piece of heaven in my mouth. Ok, maybe that's a bit too dramatic, but that chicken had me at the first crunch. I never thought a pitstop of a place like this would have much of a foodie potential, but who knew? I should also mention that I went there on a random week night around 11PM and they were still open. With the convenience of this type of a round-the-clock service, how could anyone resist?
