Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I brought in my computer for a usb problem. First told it was software issue and that the hardware diagnostic was good, next call says I need a new mother board. Next call says they have a workaround so no new motherboard needed. Next call says I do in fact need a new motherboard. They put in a new motherboard then call and say I don't need a new motherboard but it's an OS issue. They backup my data to their server, do a clean install of my OS and replace my data files. I get home to find they only replaced a portion of my data files so back to the store I go. I am told it's simple to finish the backup, come back tomorrow. I come back and am told it will be another day and I will need to sit with a tech to pick and choose what data I want to save due to some reason I could not comprehend nor could the tech really explain it. "That's just the way it is." Next call is that the machine is ready and I don't need to come in to sit with a tech. to pick over my data. Whew! I did get a small discount but this took 2 weeks, too many phone calls and too much brain damage. I think if I worked with one tech instead of 4 there may have been less confusion within their shop. Not sure if I will use them again. I have found some great bargains in the store for our company but as far as service, not impressed. I will give them credit for store hours as they are open 7days, most until 7 pm.. read more

From 1 star to 5 overnight. Out of sheer personal frustration, I wrote a bad review for Action. I admit this and I am sorry I did it. Daniel Kelly contacted me immediately and told me that they would do what was necessary to make me happy. This is important since the laptop was out of warranty. I should have contacted them first and asked if they would help me, instead of taking up pen so quickly. This place advertises that they buy used computer hardware; don't even bother. I went in with a nice GPU that currently goes for $400 on eBay (used) and asked what I might get for it. They refused to give me a ballpark figure until they tested it. They wasted 5 hours of my time before they bothered plugging it in, then offered $100. The thing that got me was the salesman saying it was a huge risk for them to even offer that. Guess they've never heard of the internet? Needless to say, I walked out the door with the card. Got home and found they damaged a molex connector on the thing too. read more

Brought one of our computers in thinking it was most likely a fried hard drive. Ben diagnosed the issue and gave us a few different options. We chose to go the new hard drive route instead of a new computer. Ben took care of it and the computer is working wonderfully. All at a much lower rate than we were expecting. Very helpful! I have an 8 year old Mac that had a virus, I was unsure initially of of going to a brick and mortar store that advertises on the radio because, as a small business owner I always seek out mom and pop businesses to support, this is one to support, the customer service was exemplary, my Mac, which I was ready to throw in the trash is like new, they found 7 viruses.....7......in a Mac? My old pc died and I needed to replace it. I went to Action Computers, and am very happy with my experience and my "new" pc. Cornelia Snyder was knowledgeable and really listened to what I needed before she suggested a new tower for me. She didn't try to get me to purchase something more expensive or add on anything that I didn't need, but directed me to the best tower in my price-range. The computer came with a 1-year warranty, so I can be fairly assured that, should I encounter a hardware problem, it will be corrected by this business. I need to add that I have actually shopped here for years, for anything from replacement cables to speakers to computers, and have never had a negative experience. read more

Edit: after my review was posted, I was contacted by Jeff at Action Computer to figure out how to make things right. We negotiated a free replacement battery which I thought was an acceptable way to fix the situation. Jeff was very helpful and professional. ------ Original review: I needed a new computer back in April because my Dell from '08 was on its way out. I use my computer mostly for photo storage and music storage, surfing the internet and using Skype. The folks in the shop were helpful and courteous and answered every question I had, helping me make my decision to go with refurbished instead of new. Overall the machine I got wasn't anything special and the battery that came with it was defective, yet not covered under warranty. I really wanted to like Action Computers but I had a frustrating experience and will certainly never be back there. The details: I started by purchasing a hp still on windows 7 and was immediately unimpressed. The system worked at about the same speed as my old Dell and wasn't anything special, so I exchanged it within 30 days an upgraded to a more expensive touchscreen Toshiba on windows 8. Definitely faster and more pleasant to use, but the battery didn't keep its charge. If it was plugged in the battery %age would remain the same but wouldn't get higher. The battery reduced when not plugged in, but never got higher when plugged in. I brought it in for warranty covered service and they couldn't reproduce the problem, they just told me the battery wouldn't charge past 87% and that batteries aren't covered under warranty. Annoyed, I took the computer home and googled a fix that involved taking out the battery, unplugging the computer and holding down the power button. After that, the battery would charge fully to 100% (not 87) but the same issue continued to happen. About 2 months later, the computer started freezing immediately after turning it on. After a day of several restarts and no improvement I took it in, also letting them know about the battery workaround. 2 days later they let me know the computer was fine, no freezing and their diagnostics showed no issues with the hardware. Same deal on the battery - a new battery might fix the issues, but they weren't positive. I understand that irreproducible issues are hard to diagnose but no motion was made to make things easier. A few days later (likely due to my complaining) they said they would order a battery for testing. A 3rd trip to action computers to find out that yes, the battery originally sold with the computer was garbage but not covered under warranty, but I could have the new battery for $110. Again, no effort made to right what I felt like was a wrong- battery didn't work on purchase, made 3 service calls to figure out the fix and still nothing was done to make the process easier for me. The folks in the service area were patient and kind, but that's not good enough. read more

Anytime I'm dealing with a company about a problem I know little about, my primary judgement is made on their honesty. Yes, their expertise is important, but you have to be able to trust these specialists. For example, your personal physician, your auto mechanic that understands the electronics built into late model vehicles, and yes, computer people. I just had my first experience with Brian at Action Computers (at their Arvada, Colorado store). They passed with flying colors. I had a problem with a laptop and from my past experience, if I tried to fix it, based on what I saw of training videos on the Internet, I would probably have to spend one to three hours on the task. I figured it was something they could do in less than an hour. I explained my problem to Brian while he was turning the computer on and as I finished my comments, he told me it was fixed. Boom! He showed me what to do if it ever happened again and charged me their minimum service charge and I was gone in less than ten minutes. Talk about a happy customer. Not just because I got away so quickly and so inexpensively, but more importantly, I had found a computer place to deal with that I knew I could trust. He could have given me a runaround and charged me considerably more and I would not have been unhappy. But this result makes me want to brag about Action Computers and I plan to do just that with friends and neighbors. read more

I was only purchasing a $4 monitor cable, but they treated me like I was the queen of England.

Since my review, Action has contacted me with an offer to reload my erased hard drive, for gratis. That's as it should be, they replied very quickly, and I feel much better about them now. First, let me say that the folks at Action Computer (south Colorado Blvd) were always cordial. That said, I cannot recommend them. My wife bought an iPad accessory that did not work well. I bought a reconditioned mouse that was worse than my own problematic one. The real gripe is: I have a new Mac desktop so thought I might sell my previous one. I took it to Action to have my info deleted. The fellow asked if I wanted a DOD (dept. of defense)/military wipe. [Military wipe? Were they offering me sand paper?) DOD wipe, I found, was to completely erase your hard drive to absolute zero, brain dead. I said no, just my own info. He replied 'Fine, we can do that". I also asked what value my Mac desktop had and he said I might be able to get $200.00 to $250.00 for it, whereas if they sold it in Action computer it'd likely go for $350.00 to $400.00. So, a few days later I picked up my Mac and two days later sold it for $200.00 at a neighborhood yard sale. Great. But that afternoon the purchaser brought it back saying he couldn't get it to work so had taken it to 'his computer guy', who informed him that the hard drive was absolutely empty, nothing to work with. Just great. So, I took it back to Action but the manager said no, we could never take off just your info, can't be done. (I've since been told that yes, it IS possible to delete personal info only). I suggested Action buy my computer for my lost $200.00 but he declined intimating they couldn't sell it for a profit. He was sorry, he said, for the confusion. Told me my statements of what all transpired was heresay, that he had not heard it. Then he offered to replace the proper setup for my Mac for 'only $80.00' instead of the normal $160.00 or $140.00. I replied ' you are going to charge me to put back what wasn't to be taken out in the first place? Your mistake, right?'. But that was the best he could do for me. Thus, I had already paid for an inadvertent DOD wipe and now I was to pay a sizeable chunk for them to correct their mistake.......no thanks; AND SO, I would steer clear of Action. If you do go, be VERY clear what will happen, and ask more than one person there since they seem to have different ideas among different people. read more

We had a laptop that stopped working. We were going to buy a new laptop for school, but then we were told about this place. Really just wanted something cheap that would work for school. We spoke with Dean who showed us inexpensive computers and gave us a quick education on computers. We spent a little more than what we had planned, but ended up with a better laptop. They had a good variety at affordable prices. We appreciate the time Dean took with us and we're satisfied with our laptop. We'll be back to have a data transfer done in the future and update Yelp. read more

The monitor was below what I wanted to get, overpriced, and quit working within a year of purchase (everything turned blue, the resolution refused to fix itself - help desk support for the monitor explained it was dead). Was able to get a better, cheaper, newer monitor on Amazon and that one is still going strong. Will not ever go to this place again. read more

The staff makes the company and the leadership hires the staff as is evidenced by Action Computers. I have purchased a laptop from them, a computer and have had them service everything as well. My PC's OS crashed last January. They installed the new system and it has worked great. I have called them every now and then because I have a question regarding a product, system security recommendations etc. I am not a tech person and these people never make me feel stupid. Took in a laptop for screen issue on a Thursday. They told me they would not get to it till Monday. I called Wednesday and they had not gotten to it yet. They called Saturday and said they needed to order a part which turned out to be the wrong one. I called a couple more times and they finally got it back to me after 3 weeks from drop off. Here's the kicker, they left fingerprints under/inside the LED glass, ya...reallllly!! They said bring it by anytime and they would take care of it while I waited. I drove 15 miles based on that promise only to be told I'd have to leave it. I threw a hissy fit so they begrudgingly cleaned the screen while I waited. An hour later I left and will NEVER to return. Total cluster ****. Oh, while I was waitng, another customer came in with the same issue of false promises and total inefficiencies. read more

I bought a used computer several years ago from Action and it work for about 5 years without any problems and the price was very reasonable, I have been going there for about 12 years and found their service and prices are generally reasonable as well as the service. If you want a new car then you buy a new car, but if you want a used one you buy a used one. It really isn't fair comparing used with new, and Action does a great job selling and servicing used computers. read more

I wouldn't even give them one star: I called in to ask about building my own rig and the guy said to come down and talk to their tech people. I drove down there and the sales manager wouldn't let me talk to the tech guy and I talked to him instead. He knew nothing -- absolutely nothing. Then they said I could talk to their tech guy at $60 per hour and all I was going to learn was the specs of the different computer parts that you can get on NewEgg or pcpartbuilder. I have used Action Computer in the past for computer repairs and they have always been fine. Even in spite of always trying to sell me a new computer. This time however they had my computer for two weeks before they were even able to look at the computer. They told me there would be a wait of 8 days but when I called them on the 10th day they said it had not yet been looked at but they would look at it tomorrow. Two more days pass and I called them and they said they had not yet looked at it but assured me it would be the first on the list the next day. Two more days passed and the same thing. So the next day I went and picked it up. I took it to another shop who looked at it the same day, told me what was wrong with it and replaced the keyboard on my lap top within that week. This level of service from Action is not what I expect and I won't be using them again. read more

I stopped by Denver Action Computers about a week ago looking for a school/work laptop. I usually go to Best Buy, but my last experience with them was negative. I am extremely happy that I decided to choose Action Computers instead. A representative, Dean, assisted me and was absolutely wonderful! I get a little anxious when shopping for computers, as I know very little about them. Dean was patient, kind, and got me the perfect laptop for my needs. This place is like a little mafia. Everybody is running around scared and has to ask the "boss" if they can make a deal. They always do. No one is allowed to make a decision without the approval of the "boss". I have been there 3 or 4 time and everything I have purchased has gone bad just minutes after the warranty has expired. Everytime my gaming pc needs any fixing of any kind Action does a sub par job. I had a graphics card problem so I bought a new one of similar performance only to get back my pc with problems of an occasional black screen and any games not utilizing the card at all. Another time I needed my motherboard replaced, Action said I needed additional parts replaced that I realized later didn't need to be. Action does half ass'ed work and likes to trick people into buying more than they need. read more

Great customer service, they even have a sign in their window to please call and someone will come and carry your computer into to the store! Extremely friendly, knowledgeable staff. Purchased used computer from these guys and within a week the battery went dead. They stated that they don't check batteries which I thought was pretty lame excuse when buying used equipment. Asked if they had a battery and they checked their database said the had one in the store somewhere for $89.00. While waiting checked Amazon ordered new battery and it will be delivered tomorrow to my front door for $23.00. Found trip to store waste of time. read more
