Actual Customer here, Honest Review. I was given Action Mechanical Services by my warranty company and was Immediately concerned with their review median. I told Nick straight up I was concerned about it and he understood and did everything he could to make the median incorrect. He was polite, straight forward, to the point, gave me ALL of the options, broke down price and non covered charges (even though I argued some of them), he is meticulous and cleaned up after himself, Kept me up to date with warranty company antics and got out as fast as possible. I never had an issue getting in touch with him. The reason I gave him 4/5 stars which is debatably a good or bad thing is, he wouldn't budge on me wanting to just leave the junction box to my Condenser. Granted it did need replaced and I just didn't want to pay for it, but non the less he ended up changing it. He stated if he is working on an older unit and the electrical is just as old as the unit, its always best to replace it. (just the whip). He ended up replacing the junction box itself as well which I don't see that he charged me for. Overall a great experience, would recommend. read more

They were contacted through my home warrant. I had a leak from my water heater. They came out to look at it and gave my home warranty and estimate to replace it. I gave the go ahead and was told by the home warranty to contact them to make an appointment. I called for a week straight during their hours of operation it always go to a voicemail and they have not responded back. I even contacted the home warranty company again and they tried contacting them as well And still no response read more

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE A FARCE. I would have rated this company zero only there was no option to give a zero star. On July 19th I called my home warranty company and requested service on my central air telling them that it had been making a loud clanking noise and now humming loudly and finally stopped working. They set me up with Action Mechanical and told me I would receive a call back on Monday. I did not receive a call I ended up having to call them. I explained that I had health conditions and that it was important that I get this fixed and they didn't have anybody to send until Wednesday the 23rd. Jeremy showed up on the 23rd and stated that he flipped the switch and it came on after he change the air filter and sprayed the unit off. I told him the unit has been sprayed off two weeks prior and the filter had been changed 6 weeks prior. He told me that's all he could do that it was working. Granted it's been about 100° out so I expected the AC to take a while to cool down. It took over 12 hours to go from 89° to 72° and that was overnight. I was excited when I woke up and it was 72°. As the day went on the temperature continued to climb I chalked that up to the fact that it was over 100° outside so I didn't make a call. When I woke up the next morning it was 78 degrees in the house. I immediately called and spoke with the ever so professional Lexi who stated she can't send anybody out until Tuesday I told her that was unacceptable she finally gave in and said she could send somebody Monday. Now mind you when Jeremy left Wednesday he told me that if it's stopped working to call back and the boss would come out. So when I talked to Lexie Friday morning and let her know that it had gone back out again and I expected to talk to the boss she said sure enough she'd have the boss call me. Didn't hear a word from him. Jeremy shows up Monday late in the afternoon he takes his time out there at the AC unit comes in and tells me it's the fan motor. He said they would have to get one ordered and it would be shipped on the truck in the morning to the office it will be unloaded and somebody would be out the next morning to install. I asked for confirmation he said unless the truck carrying the part fell in the river it would be there. I waited till about 11:00 in the morning Tuesday morning, I hadn't heard anything or seen anyone so I called. When I talked with Lexie she said oh did Jeremy say we have the part and he's installing it I told her no he said that you guys were going to have the part in stock today and that somebody would be out to put it in today. Her comment to me was if we have the parts the earliest we have would be August 8th another 10 days later, that would be a total of 20 days from when I put in my first request for service. That is so very unacceptable. I got on the phone with my home warranty company and told them I do not want to work with this company any longer I've explained to them numerous times I have health issues and their dilly-dallying around and not being straight up honest about what's going on. So they set me up with another contractor who I highly recommend. Walker Heating and Cooling out of St Louis. Mr Walker was here for less than 2 hours diagnosed the problem had the part in stock on his truck and repaired it. Jeremy from Action was here probably 2 hours each time he was here and I still was sitting without AC. I don't recommend this company at all if you're using a home warranty for their services. I don't even recommend them at all because they were very unprofessional not being honest about what was going to happen and not caring about my health. read more

I had 2 other companies come out and both of them gave a diagnosis that was the same but different from Action Mechanical. They tried to get me out of extra money that was not necessary. In March had issues with work they did and bogus charges they tech said he could not ad coolant by law unless I paid for a sealant thing that was true owner got involved I got a refund for the bogus charge. They did a supposed tune up and cleaning owner told me to call them if it died again this summer Ac died I called them like the owner said instead of warranty company who sent them first time. In March 4 months ago the second time they came out that the fan motor died and they replaced it back in March Now they said that had to be replaced so I once again had to pay deductible for the warranty again they replaced the motor again it's working but they also said the compressor is dying and needs to be replaced they are claiming the cost to do that as well over $2000 more than what the warranty covers for changing the lines and fittings that go to it. I strongly advise against ever using them. Had the same thing done at another property and did not cost more than what the insurance covers and that one's an older unit way more complicated unit. read more

When our hot water heater began leaking, our home warranty company sent a technician from Action Mechanical Services for an evaluation. A technician from the company diagnosed the need for a replacement. Unexpectedly, I was handed the technicians phone with a representative from the home warranty company on the line, informing me of an $800 out-of-pocket expense, with no prior transparency from Action Mechanical Services about what these costs entailed. When I sought clarification from the home warranty company, they cited "code violations, re-piping, the expansion tank, and more" as reasons for the additional charges--none of which were communicated to me by the technician. Adding to the frustration, the technician's manager had promised to provide a bid for upgrading to a hybrid water heater. Despite my proactive follow-ups, the bid never materialized. Then, out of the blue, I received a message from my home warranty stating that the service request was complete as of June 26, 2024. This lack of follow-through and transparency regarding costs and services is unacceptable. It has left me questioning the reliability and integrity of Action Mechanical Services. read more

My home warranty sent someone from here for my AC and he charged me am additional $100 for what he says was the issue. Nothing changes. So I call after 6 hours to let them know nothing changed. They make me wait until.the next day for him to come back. He says nothing is wrong with the unit and he can't figure it out. So he changes my thermostat and calls it a day. Home warrant won't send anyone else because their diagnosis says nothing is wrong. Fucking BULLSHIT. So I call someone myself. Pay them $99 for the diagnostic and the guy comes and figures it out within an hour and my AC has been running right ever since. Never use this company. They'll do the bare minimum and still try to swindle some money out of you while they're at it. read more

Do not use this company I ended up being serviced by them thru my ho.e warranty company. I scheduled my appointment for a time I'd be available and they had a time slot. My complaint is he arrived 30+ min prior to appointment. I was informed by some one else working in my home that he was there I allowed him to enter my residence he wondered thru my home looking for other jobs they could complete in the future. As well as completing the job he was sent to complete. When I arrived home he was in my driveway undressed from waist up just sitting there. He precedes to roll down his window not wearing a shirt and tell me about the other things he found and photographed in a completely different location. I emailed the company expecting to receive an apology and letting me know they would speak to him regarding his (Jeremy) actions instead I received a call from Nick I believe telling me he was justified I wondering thru my house because he was looking for the sump pump but he didn't ask the person who allowed him to enter the residence. He then suggested he was looking for the breaker which is on the wall less then ten feet from the sump pump. Then precedes to tell me he had taken off his shirt because there was sewer water leaking in the second location which is yet another lie because I went to wear he stated there was a leak and it's completely dry and covered in dust not moisture of any kind. And I photographed the area as well. If you are referred to use them by your home warranty company do yourself a favor and ask that they be listed as do not send out. Our home warranty dispatched this company to check and fix the issue with our AC unit. A technician came and was professional and stated that refrigerant and stop leak needed to be added but the warranty only covers $10 and the rest would be up to us to pay. We wanted this issue resolved so we agreed and the tech proceeded to add those items. The tech came back and stated that the AC kept freezing as he was adding the refrigerant and stop leak. The tech inspected the inside unit and stated that a coil was clogged and needed to be clean in order for the AC to work properly. The tech mentioned he would check with the warranty company if they would pay for this and will follow up. We did not hear anything back and our AC was not fixed. The same day we proceeded to create another work order through our warranty and was waiting on an authorization. Work oder was process on a Thursday, it was a three day weekend, did not receive a call until Tuesday early morning. Did not have a problem with this but I guess the owner John needed to explain how a three day weekend works. The owner John called back to set up an appointment and stated the tech would be out there to inspect and see what needed to be done. I told him that someone had already been there and stated the coils needed to be cleaned. John started to get very defensive and said that they do not do cleaning this time of year and only do repairs or replacement. I asked why would the technician say that? and John continued to be very unprofessional and stated that I was asking too many "weird" questions?- This was laughable to think that the owner just said I was asking too many weird questions. I did ask if they only did warranty calls, or if they have some idea of what the process is with warranty claims since the warranty company contacted them and I wanted to know what to expect next. The owner then stated it seemed that we were having problems and that I was unhappy with their service and would cancel the call to the house. I was more than happy, after his unprofessionalism, to get someone else to come and fix our problem. Our AC was not fixed, the technician was very professional maybe uninformed, the owner was very unprofessional and would never call this company again. Because of the owner, I would avoid this company completely. It seemed like the company is doing very well that they do not care for great customer service. read more

Adin was great and super nice! Turns out the repair was not done right. They then indicated that the drip we reported was condensation and then had to return a 3rd time after indicating that no, that is a drip and clearly not condensation. At that point they fixed the leak but left us with no hot water to 2 of our sinks and are trying to stick us with a bill to fix the work to fix what they did that left us with no hot water...super disappointing. Asked to speak to a manager multiple times and never received a call. Was told they don't offer discounts, I never asked for a discount, I'm indicating that this should be made right. Example, we'll not charge you for the pex or shark bites for that part of the repair, but we will charge for the new faucets etc. But, no one ever called so...great customer service ***eyeroll*** Just a simple callback and attempt to make us feel like they aren't trying to rip us off would have fixed the scenario. read more

Called my home warranty company about my sump pump - guy came out, took pics and left. Called the home warranty company a month later, they had heard nothing from Action. I called Action, he tells me I don't have a sump pump, its a "sewage ejection unit" - and since I didn't have a sump pump it was "Not my problem." So just took my $75 and walked away. My warranty company made me use these jokers. I had to pay the deductible (fine), then they tell me they need to come back and add a clean out and it will cost me $400. Dustin was there 20 minutes and left. He didn't fix the issues, he told me he wasn't sure how to fix the issue and that he would call me the next day after he talked to his boss. He left and then called back about 10 minutes later and said that he didn't tighten the "clean out", and not to use my sink or washing machine or I would have water pour out, it could worsen the problem, and it may not be able to be repaired. This was January 14th. I'm still waiting for him to call me back. This place is a joke and they will take any money you will give them. He came to the door and I ask him if he had a mask and he said "nope don't wear them". Even the way he said it showed he has an attitude. You should never call this guy. They arrived at my home, was there for less than 5 min and told me that the home warranty wouldn't cover my damage. They collected my deductible and did not do anything. I don't often write reviews this detailed, but I felt the service I received, or rather, didn't receive, from this particular contractor needed to be shared. Perhaps other customers of Action Mechanical have had better experiences, and if so, I invite them to share. In my case, their misguided diagnosis and apparent lack of interest in actually solving my problem forced me to take extra steps and additional time off work to get my furnace working properly . Specifically, I had a furnace that would periodically go into lock-out mode - a safety feature that automatically kicks in when things aren't working right. I would cycle power to the furnace and it would work again for a few hours or days. After a preliminary diagnosis by the HVAC technician that had installed my humidifier, and some experimentation on my part, it was my best guess that there was a problem with the 27 year controller board - the brains of the system. After waking up to a cold house a couple times, I called my home warranty company to get the problem fixed. Enter Action Mechanical. They sent out a technician that poked around a little, called back to the shop, and submitted a diagnosis to the warranty company that claimed that the "problem" was the result of having a humidifier and Nest thermostat connected to my furnace. Of course, that doesn't explain why everything had worked fine for the previous year. When I called the office of Action Mechanical to get a more detailed explanation, I was treated with utter disrespect and asked what qualified me to diagnose the problem with my system. My response could have been a) I spent a number of years working for a custom home builder, 2) I am an engineer with a bachelor's degree, and 3) I live in the house and have done several things over the previous weeks to isolate parts of the system in an attempt to determine the root cause, but I wasn't really interested in arguing and they didn't really seem interested in listening. The qualifications of Action Mechanical's technician, on the other hand, was to be able to use a phone to call back to the the office so somebody could diagnose the problem over the phone. After that call, I did some of my own fault isolation testing. I switched the Nest thermostat with another. I verified the Nest was wired with five wires rather than having a shared common wire (a common source of problems). I also turned off the humidifier. The furnace still failed after eliminating the two elements that Action Mechanical blamed. I called the home warranty company and asked for a second opinion. They sent another contractor which diagnosed the problem as a faulty controller board in the furnace. Surprise! It was replaced the next day, and my furnace has been working fine for a month - with both the Nest thermostat and humidifier connected. At the end of the day, I have to wonder why this company that has supposedly been around for over 11 years according to the BBB site cannot be found on Google Maps, does not have a website of their own, and doesn't even show up on a Google search (except for the BBB listing). Seems like an odd business model, but maybe they're just that old fashioned. On the other hand, maybe they're not really looking for any business other than warranty service calls - which also seems like an odd business model. Your experience may be different, but I don't plan to let the warranty company send Action Mechanical back to my house. read more

Wow, where to begin. 1st off the "co-owner" John has to be the WORST person to deal with on the phone. My home warranty company sent these people out to us to repair leaky faucets. To set up an appointment was like pulling teeth! He was truly just a cantankerous fellow to start with, and got much worse as dealing with him got more involved. I received notification from our home warranty company that a contractor had been found for our stoppage issue (we can not flush either of our toilets and both of our showers are backing up). Action Mechanical Services Inc was the contractor accepted. I clicked on check status and the service request was deleted. I then contacted the service company and the gentleman said they have not received anything from the home warranty company and I might want to find someone else due to them scheduling out until next week. Well...I called our home warranty company AND they informed me that the contractor had cancelled the service request! American Home Shield not only put the request back in, they expedited the request due to us not being able to flush our toilets! This company was assigned to us from Cinch, the guy came out with an iPad in hand, no tools whatsoever, and said well before we con do anything we will need an additional 300.00. He did not even run any water, flush the toilet, or do anything other than ask for more money. He came back 30 minutes later and just walked into our basement area stating he had left an expensive wrench behind. I told him he only had an iPad the whole time he was in my home and he was insistent he left a wrench which the cam footage on our ADT shows was untrue. When he returned for the 300.00 visit he was there less than an hour and said he would need to come back again with a camera. We decided to go with Tiger Plumbing, and we are super glad we did!! read more

I hate even giving 1 star to Action Mechanical. The owner, John, is dishonest, and lied to me during scheduling an appointment. I asked him a question, and he said that he just worked in the office, and wasn't able to answer any plumbing questions. Later learned that he is a plumber, and owns the company. He scheduled for a plumber to be at my residence between 2 and 5 pm. His employee arrived st 4:50 pm, which was within the time frame promised. The employee was unable to take a card or check, advising that they only accepted cash or money order. The owner, John, was called, and he said that he has been burned numerous times by people canceling checks, and that he has to pay for card transactions. The owner yelled and complained, was very rude and disrespectful. Yelling at me that after 5 pm, his employee is on overtime. I said that his employee arrived at ten minutes to 5, and did he expect his employee to diagnose and repair the issue in 10 minutes? I was able to pay in cash, and the plumber ran a snake thru the drain, and advised that he ran into, "spider roots," and doesn't have the necessary equipment to finish the repairs. He further advised that I would need to have my basement floor dug up with a jackhammer, to replace pipes under the house. He left without repairing the issue. The next day, I called Roto-rooter, their plumber came out, was professional, respectful, and advised that there were no roots in my pipes, that it was a buildup of sludge from oils, and lint from the washer. He cleaned the drain, and reccomended an enzyme to use monthly to reduce buildup. I believe that this company has absolutely no intention of reparing anything, and is only interested in obtaining the $100.00 copay, then bailing on the customer. I have never been treated so horribly by a service provider. I am appalled that any home warranty company continues to utilize this wretched, shady, company. read more

Warranty company sent these people to my house to diagnose a problem with our kitchen sink. Which we already told them The faucet was leaking water and needed repaired or replaced. The technician took a few pictures looked at sink was there less than 5 mins. Charged me $100. Never gave us price qoute to fix it. Told us they would have to wait to hear from warranty company and we would hear back in a few days. We called to check to see what was going on the Owner was rude and treated us like we were idiots. We tried to ask what a normal service call and diagnosis would entail and he wouldn't answer. Finally got him to give us a price on replacing the faucet and was qouted over $319 in addition to the $100 he had already charged us. But he would give us a deal and take $50 off after screaming at us. I hung up on him because why should anyone have to deal with this sort of treatment? Then he calls back and leaves a message saying when we want to have an intelligent conversation. All I can say is do yourself a favor CALL SOMEONE ELSE. AVOID THIS MAN. Action Mechanical was assigned by our Home Warranty company for work on a kitchen sink not draining. Waited an hour after request was submitted and logged into my account to find there was no longer a service request. I called home warranty and they stated Action Mechanical cancelled the service because I was not within Waterloo City limits. I was never contacted telling me they were cancelling the service request so I could re-submit or find another contractor. I would have been waiting around for a call that would never have come. I had to request a refund from home warranty company and put in a new request, ensuring this company would not be assigned. Also put in a complaint with our home warranty to do to their contract services department due to cancelling without notice or contacting me as the customer or my home warranty company to re-assign. I am so very tired of horrible customer service. The reviews for Action Mechanical Services as the company to stay away from are true. My home warranty chose them and I should have listened. I am not allowing you to come in my house without a mask. You refused and I refused your service. He said to me, "I choose not to wear one". Then his rude boss called and lied about hearing the conversation and stated that he isn't going to wear a mask as long as he maintains social distancing. I'm ok with social distancing AFTER you get downstairs to the HVAC, However, that isn't what the service guy said. I'm good with not using them and I do not recommend using them either. John Covalesky and Dustin Martin, you must reserve your manners and professionalism for a select group of customers. They can have you.
