Needing a plumber is never pleasant. Needing a plumber because your basement backed up with sewage is about as unpleasant as it gets; however, Tim from ActionPro made it as easy as possible. He was recommended to me and I first called him to fix my kitchen sink and replace the leaking faucet. I called on a Sunday, he came out Monday on time and was done in under an hour for a reasonable rate. The next night, Chicago had some torrential rains that caused us to get sewer water and actual solid sewage in the basement. I called him and he came out the next day. He actually said he could come that night but I wasn't going to be home till late. He rodded the main line and catch basin and everything was flowing just fine when he left. That same evening we had another flash flood, and the basement started backing up again (infuriating)...We called and he came back out at 10 o' clock at night on his way back from another job and did not charge because he had just been there! He flushed everything back out the main line and we have not had a problem since. It is very reassuring to deal with someone who is so responsive, and stands by his work. He calls back quickly, he's flexible, will come out evenings and weekends, and he's honest. You can hire him knowing that he's not going to screw you, even if he has to come back out if something goes wrong. Another thing that is good to know for anyone who is looking at major, expensive plumbing repairs (like install new copper lines for X thousands of dollars...) he can take a credit card for big jobs. Mark is very friendly and has been helpful in working on the weekend to try to fix our sewage problem. Unfortunately, the more they dig the more they charge, and my costs went up from a simple rodding ($275) to clear the drain (you know with the mechanical snake looking thing) to having to redo 10 feet of pipe which made my total costs go from $275 to over $5,000. I think the team has done a great job but their pricing is very counter-intuitive. This was kind of how our decision making happened: Something is broken! Fix it please! Cost to do rodding 1st time: $250 Uh-oh the pipe is broken-- better fix it! Cost to do 4 feet of pipe: $2425 Uh-oh the pipe is more broken than we thought...better fix it! Cost to do 8 feet of pipe (4 feet more than original): $1700 Let's do 8 feet! Uh-oh the broken pipe is longer than we thought... Cost to do 10 feet of pipe (2 more than planned): $850 But it's still blocked so we need to rod it again... Cost to do rodding 2nd time: $275 It's fixed now though, so I'm glad that I went with them! read more

I found Tim on craigslist because I have had no hot water in my shower/tub for almost a week. Not only was he able to come and troubleshoot my problem - which turned out to be (probably) a mechanism that needs replacing, he did NOT - I repeat DID NOT charge me more than he quoted over the phone. He's a guy trying to make it, like we all are. And more than anything else, he's HONEST. He's going to get back to me with the cost of the part and labor which I imagine isn't going to be in the hundreds of dollars. In most cases, the reason to call a plumber is not inspired from things which make you smile. My water heater went out less than 24 hours before the arrival of weekend guests. I called around (and Yelped) and found Tim. In a nutshell, he did a great job and was reasonable. He was professional, direct, and had a simple approach - "tell me where you want me to buy your water heater, you buy it, and I'll pick it up and then I will put it in for $XXX fee". His rate on top of the water heater priced the complete job of the heater, installation, and removal of old one, more than $100 under other reputable guys out there. He arrived when he said he would, brought in the water heater that he picked up (which I paid for at Home Depot over the phone). He was in & out in less than 2 hours (takes time to drain the old tank), and carried the old tank out to the alley (poof - watch it disappear). Tim is no-nonsense, honest, reasonable, and I will not hesitate to call him with any other of my plumbing needs. read more

Anytime you have unwanted water coming into your home it's a scary and stressful time. But if you're looking for an easy and great experience, then Action Pro Plumbing is it. I called them about a kitchen sink that was leaking in the early afternoon and they were able to have someone out later that day. The guy that showed up was very nice and helpful and even pointed out some thing's we might want to keep an eye on in the future. The price seemed ok... I was just happy to have the issue resolved. Tim is very courteous and attentive. I looked into having a water filtration system installed under my sink. I called a professional water filtration service and was quoted around $1,000. I decided instead to buy one on Amazon for $140 and planned to install it myself. For due diligence, I decided to call around to see what it might cost for a professional installation. Tim quoted me a perfectly reasonable price to avoid the relatively likely event of catastrophe should I have attempted the installation myself. He was very amenable and willing to work around my schedule, first scheduling to do it while I was on vacation. I was off the grid, but when I got access to my voicemail, there was one from Tim, saying he looked at the system and it entailed a bit more than he previously thought and he was studying up to make sure the job was done right. I appreciate Tim's entrepreneurial spirit and hustle. With that said, we called him in August to fix a leak. The leak forced People's gas to turn our gas off. Since Tim's low on cash, he doesn't have a lot of official equipment so he relied on us telling him where we thought our leaks were. He listened and fixed only the areas we nonprofessionals showed him, and said he pressure tested to People's Gas standards. I paid $500 bucks plus other costs for materials. Next day, People's Gas comes and it's not to the pressure they require. Tim can't come out, so we're with no gas/hot water. I have to pay People's Gas to fix other spots. So problem #1 wasn't ever really fixed yet I paid $500. Flash forward a month later, we smell more gas. I call Tim. Tim comes, again, he has no official equipment so he's relying on us to tell him where we "think" the gas is coming from. Or he's spraying water looking for bubbles. He finds some spots, and says it's going to cost another $500 to fix - it's apparently a deal. I can't afford to pay this guy every time a new appears so we pass. I call another company, Perrin Gas and he has official gas detection equipment, pressure testers, and finds several leaks. He charges me significantly less than Tim to fix the same problem, + repaired an air vent that Tim literally duct taped to my basement chimney base. Perrin provides a "satisfaction guarantee" in that, if the problem persists, he comes back out to fix with no hassle. I don't recommend Action Pro and really felt like we got hustled to some degree, but fully accept that Tim is likely working very hard to feed himself and his family - just not very thorough or official at what he's trying to do. read more

I called another company to come out and fix a tenant's water boiler/heater. They told me it was not the thermo coupling and probably a valve that would costs hundreds of dollars to fix. They then told me it I might as well replace the whole unit for $1,000.00. Then Action Pro stepped in. They came out and within 30 minutes the heater was fixed. In fact it was the thermo coupling and some wires. These guys are efficient and honest and i'll be using them again. read more

The garbage disposal at my place had been leaking for some time before I actually decided to do something about it. I looked on yelp and saw that Action Pro had some decent reviews and had offered a lot of their clients same-day service, which was important to me given my busy schedule. Tim came out with his son that same day to take a look. He was friendly, professional and quick to identify the problem with the disposal. He offered me two solutions - 1) he could remove the garbage disposal entirely and seal up the leak or 2) he could swing by home depot, pick up a new disposal and install in time for me to keep the dinner reservation I had that night. I went with the new disposal and Tim headed over to home depot, fronted me the cost of the new disposal and installed it correctly and swiftly all for just a few hundred bucks. He even sawed out the rotted wood that remained under my sink free of charge. I'm considering replacing my toilet pretty soon and when that time comes I'm definitely going with Action Pro. I would highly recommend their services to anyone considering them for hire. read more

I appreciate his concern and he sought my opinion for what a fair price would be and offered to reimburse me my money. I am grateful that he was able to fix my smaller problem without having to replace the entire faucet. After another flooding incident, I decided to change-out my kitchen pipes from PVC to chrome. Unfortunately, I didn't have the right tools to cut the pipes to size. I called Action Pro for help. Tim (the owner) was able to help me out on a Saturday at short notice. He called numerous times to advise when he would be arriving. When he did arrive, he worked quickly and at a reasonable price. I was searching for a plumber to work on a backed up balcony drain and two faulty tub diverter valves. After checking out some reviews, I called up Tim and he quoted market prices. He charges by job rather than hour, so that worked for me. Tim was courteous and efficient in fixing up the faucets. It wasn't a standard system, but he was handy enough to understand the issues. The balcony drain was a challenge. Heads up for future reference, you will want to have him commit to using the stronger "snake" in the event that his normal snake machine isn't able to clear the clog. Tim managed to get it all done in the end, but I did have to pay an extra $90 for him to use the bigger machine. All in all, satisfied with his upfront approach and quality work. I called Action pro on a Sunday afternoon and Tim actually picked up the phone. I was in the process of making the appointment, and he's like when do you want us to come out? Sarcastically, I said today and he said sure what time is good? I was pretty surprised. He came out on a Sunday afternoon and fixed a flush mechanism problem with the toilet and slow water draining in the shower. He was quick and was able to fix the problem. We have used "Tim the Plumber" 3 times. The first was back in April 2010. I was pleased with his service and stated I would write a good review, but got busy and lazy. On this particular visit, he fixed 3 running toilets and an annoyingly dripping sink. He came on time...on a Friday night nonetheless, drove to Home Depot for additional parts, and worked efficiently. The charge for all 4 issues was $420 for all parts and labor. More recently, one of the previously mentioned toilets began running intermittently again. I remembered that Tim guaranteed his work for 1 year. So, I called him and he came out later that week. The problem seemed to have been part related and Tim actually replaced it at no cost. Also, we had a leaking pipe under our wet bar sink. Tim said it was just a "nut" and he replaced it at no cost as well. Last weekend, we called Tim because there was a strange buzzing sound coming from the common sump pump in our condo building. Tim came out to give a free assessment and estimate. He was honest and encouraged us to find out if the part was under warranty before he went to purchase one for us. Although we are still in the process of figuring this out, it's nice to know that he has our best interest in mind and didn't just jump on the job to benefit himself. I like this guy...he's honest, knows his stuff, is fair with price, and works efficiently and cleans up after his work. I dfinitely recommend him if you need a plumber. read more

I was trying to take my outdoor water spigot off today and clean it to increase the pressure. Just my luck, I broke it off internally (behind the wall). So, I had to leave my water main shut off until I got it repaired. I called Tim after reading his reviews on here and scheduled a appt. for later this afternoon. He came out, fixed my problem for a fair price, and even cleaned up where he was working (after I told him not to worry about it). I used them again to unclog a drain that was running slowly. I requested Tim based on my previous experience with him. He was in the middle of doing personal errands and brought his elementary aged son along. Not only did he diligently work to clear the drain, but it was great to see him walk his son through every aspect of what he was doing and allowing him to learn through participation. I had a different plumber install a ejector pump and he suggested to make the ejector pit bigger so the pump wouldn't run as much. So I found Tim and he came and deepened the pit. Great job on that. The problem i had is he was supposed to be at my place finishing up the job at 10 AM so i waited until 11 and he still didn't show up. I had to call my boss and let him know I wasn't coming in to work because Tim said he was on his way when he finally answered my call. So that is turned into a PTO day, not happy about taking a PTO day for a plumbing issue that should have been done the night before. When he finally did show up he had a lot of trouble getting the new pump to work, why the pump never turned on was because the electrical cords were wrapped around the float and he couldn't see that. He had to duct tape the float to the pump because he said that the previous plumber who installed the new pump broke the float screw off the side of the pump, which I don't think happened the pump worked fine until Tim put the pump back in after digging out the pit. Using duct tape in water isn't the best idea. The tape started to fall off the pump after one night. He had to come back out and then he wired tied the float to the pump. I am going to get a new pump in and install it myself. read more

Tim and his son came to our rescue when we found the kitchen sewer was backed up. This was the night right before scheduled carpet installation before we moved in our new home. It had to be dealt with. It was late at night when we stopped to check on the new place. We were so glad we did. The leak buckled the floor and seeped through the ceiling dripping downstairs, leaving a puddle. Tim quickly identified the issue - clogged common sewer line. He used electric snake drain cleaner and unclogged it in no time. The bill came out to be $325, a bit higher but for a late night emergency call, it's understandable. read more

I found Tim on Yelp because the toilet in my guest bathroom broke and I was having 12 guests over for dinner in two days. Initially, I contacted Tim via e-mail. He responded that evening once he completed his jobs for the day and was able to get in front of a computer. He provided his cell phone number in the e-mail so I called him the next morning. I explained the situation to him over the phone. He assessed the problem by asking me various questions. We agreed upon a meeting time later that afternoon. Tim is extremely professional. He called because the job he was working on prior to visiting me was taking longer than expected. He stated that he was still willing to fix the toilet that evening and was flexible with scheduling a new time as I had plans for the evening. He called when he was few minutes away to notify me of his arrival. Tim and his partner arrived with the required part and installed it immediately. Another part was necessary which he did not have on his truck. He said that he would stop by the next day (a Saturday) with the part and installed it because he knew that I was having a party. On Saturday, Tim called to say that he would be at my house in approximately 70 minutes. He arrived just under that time-frame. Again, he immediately installed the part. When the toilet was completely fixed he called me into the bathroom to explain to me what he did and to show me that everything was fixed. I would highly recommend Tim for your plumbing needs. As previously mentioned, he is extremely professional. He presents quite well and he will issue a receipt if you require one. He's quite knowledgeable. Most importantly, he is reliable and honest. I called Action Pro Plumbers at 8:30 on a Sat. morning with the fear that I had flushed my sapphire ring down the toilet in my Son's home. He came to help at 11:00. It was a below grade bathroom, so Tim thought he could empty the ejector pit and locate the ring. He worked very diligently for almost three hours, but could not locate my ring. I must have lost it in the airport the day before. He tried so hard, even using a camera to scope the lines. He a did a wonderful job of cleaning up the mess as well. I called with some easy plumbing work and got a quote for $135 and they said that they would be at my place at 530 the next day. 530 rolled around, no call nothing. i reached them and yada yada, 2.5 hours later they finally showed up. They wanted more money then what they quoted me which was somewhat fair seeing there was slightly more work to do. Overall, they were there an hour and they charged $250. Nonetheless, everything is working well. The below average service might have been just a fluke this time who knows. read more

He understood what I was saying and we both agreed on a time when he would come by. My mom was able to meet him and his son and they were able to get to work with rodding out the main line of roots. On July 8th I phoned Tim @Action Pro because of a leaky toilet. Tim sent his Uncle out the next day to fix the problem. The problem was fixed and in the course of the Uncle leaving my bathroom - his arm hit the shelf and he knocked off the clock and broke the toilet tank top. Of course I was unhappy but felt like accidents do happen. Tim's Uncle was most apologetic and we called Tim. Tim assured me that he'd have the toilet tank top replaced and all would be well. Well it is now almost October and my toilet tank top has not been replaced by Action Pro. Tim has repeatedly avoided my calls. I was told he had a family emergency - then I was told the tank top was in and I was told on more than 1 occasion that Tim was on the way. What is most disturbing about all of this is the blatant disregard of me as a repeat customer. I am really saddened by Tim's total lack of professionalism. I could understand that it may take time to find a replacement but to totally not return any of my calls and not have any interest in resolving the issue is most disturbing. So if you call Action Pro (and you're lucky enough to receive a return call) - make sure that you proceed with caution. The fact is Action Pro maybe will fix what is the plumbing problem, but God forbid THEY break something in your home - they will NOT respond or be held accountable. In all this trying to reach out to Tim, I found out he is not licensed as a plumber in the City of Chicago - the address provided on the yelp site and others is not a valid address. I cannot speak highly enough of Tim and his services. I contacted him for a second opinion after my hot water had been flickering in and out, and eventually entirely out. The original company I had over looked at it and told me that my tankless heater had been installed improperly, therefore voiding the warranty and requiring a new one, and this one would have to have new ventilation installed which would be drilled through my ceiling. Tim came by, carefully looked around my system and the area it is stored in, and figured out it just needed to be reset (fancy word for UNPLUGGED) and was overdue for a servicing. He literally saved me thousands of dollars for what turned out to be something that could just be unplugged and replugged. He was completely flexible with my schedule and actually came back in the evening of the same day for the servicing because I had to go back to work after his morning diagnosis. He answered all of my questions patiently and gave some helpful tips to preventing future problems, and even changed my air conditioner filter because I mentioned I didn't know where it was! Aside from being grateful for Tim saving me so much money and hassle, were I to not have had that nightmare experience with the first company I still would think Tim was wonderful, knowledgeable, and professional all on his own. He's the equivalent of that honest mechanic that knows you probably don't really understand if you need a new specific part but would never use that knowledge for his gain. He was very knowledgeable and was able to resolve our problem quickly. They were incredibly easy to deal with and knew just what to do to get our drains flowing again. Tim stopped by today to look at a broken bathtub faucet handle. He talked to me about a temporary fix for the handle instead of recommending a costly replacement of the hardware. I was able to put in the temporary fix myself and best of all, he didn't charge for the visit or his advice since he was already in the area. We had a small gas leak in our condo. We shut off the gas and called an HVAC guy, which ended up being a mistake. Even though he said he could deal with it, he showed up with only a gas meter, said he couldn't isolate the leak, then charged us $100. So then we called Tim at Action Pro. Tim was upfront about what he was going to do and what the cost would be. He showed up and had the leak isolated within 30 minutes. Because we didn't need the line, he had the problem solved within an hour. His rates were reasonable and he was friendly and courteous the entire time. I'd highly recommend him based on my experience. read more

If you want to pay $740 to have your kitchen sink rodded out, get Tim and his helper. OK, they also rebuilt a few pipes to straighten out the twists and turns under the sink- but $740 ? !!! ? They came for about 2 hours one evening and maybe 2 hrs the next day. They opened a 2 foot hole in the wall under the sink, and said I'd have to have that repaired myself. I agree with the fellow that said he thought they sized up his condo and charged accordingly. I live in Lincoln Pk, and though I have some nice art pieces that I inherited, I am also retired on a disability pension , which i didn't feel the need to tell Tim. Was his partner an apprentice? Because all he did was watchTim and fetch one or two tools from the truck. They were very polite and successful...but I don't see the justification for that fee! read more

Tim charged me $740 to rod out my kitchen sink pipes. He was there with a helper who did nothing but watch, and fetch some equipment from the truck. Was I charged double for that? Granted they could not get it to work the first time in the evening, and came back the next day. They broke through the wall to get t the pipes, and left it open because they don't repair wall work. They suggested that I let them reconfigure the pipes under the sink for easier rodding in the future. So I did. I think they thought I was wealthy based on some nice stuff I inherited, and charged me accordingly. I am anything but well off. They did tell me the price might be $740, but could be less. It is my own fault for not asking them before they started the job how much they charge an hour. They are polite and personable, but they should be for $740 ! read more

I would have given this company and owner 5 stars for the good work they did a year ago but now I must resort to 1 star. After installing a new ejector pump for me last year and clearly stating in my receipt there will be a 2 year parts and labor warranty, the company hasn't fulfilled that promise. When my ejector pump stopped working (18 months after installation), I called Tim and he stopped by to take a look. He couldn't fix it and said he will call Menards, which is where he said he bought it, to get a replacement through warranty. I called him a couple of times to see what the status was and on the second call, after hearing me speak, he hung up. After that, he wouldn't answer the phone or reply to my texts and voicemail. I've tried to contact him for over a week and reached the point where I needed a replacement. I got a new pump installed from another plumber, spending hundreds of dollars on something that was supposed to be under warranty. So in the end, I'd highly NOT recommend this company. read more
