Absolutely first rate. Larry has done numerous jobs for our house - installed a new garbage disposal, replaced flaps and pumps on toilets, repaired a slow leak in the basement, and probably a few other fixes I've forgotten. Most recently, we had a pesky leak in the upstairs bathtub. The tub is over the kitchen, and water would drip from one of the recessed lights in the ceiling. Yikes! Larry and his assistant had to cut a hole in the kitchen ceiling, but they almost instantly found the problem and fixed it. As a bonus, the drain on the tub now works again! And as far as the hole in the ceiling...I got a guy for that! I replaced the sump pump a few years ago. I asked Larry to look at it and let me know if I need to replace it again. How many other companies would view that as an invitation to overcharge for work that isn't needed? Larry said he examined it and it was fine. No problems. Timely, great work, fair pricing. Garrity is great. My dad was a plumber so I think sometimes I have some kind of genetic predisposition to being able to fix anything with pipes. I can't. I'm terrible. This does not stop me from trying. I recently tried to install a vanity with a nice bowl sink that sits out from the wall a little further than your standard vanity sink. After three days of wrestling with it and staring at a wall of parts at the hardware store and then rigging up some kind of Dr. Seuss looking ten part contraption, I discovered that since my original sink was installed in 1937, that after all my highly creative plumbing to reach the wall pipe, the wall pipe was welded into a recessed steel fixture that wasn't going anywhere. Game over. So I called Garrity. Garrity came in while I was at the office. A friend of mine let him in. When I came home, not only did my new killer vanity work just fine, there was the the entire highly creative ten part Rube Goldberg plumbing contraption I'd put together laying on the table with the bill. Across the top of the bill was a note: "Nice try." He'd fixed the wall fixture AND replaced my own mess with real plumbing. I won't go anywhere else. read more

There are two Garrity plumbers on yelp. This is the good one imho. We have used Garrity Plumbing for over 10years- following a referral from my Dad. We have used them for stopped drains and faucet installation. They are great. Get things done, clean up and are in and out quickly. One final thought....anyone that has tried plumbing on their own can testify that a 30 minute job may take 90 minutes; and that Chicago traffic can be as unpredictable as the weather. Larry, the owner gave a very fair quote and stuck to it, even though he had to come on three visits. The first for most of the work and then another day because the new toilet I had purchased had a hairline crack and I scrambled to find a replacement for him to install a few days later. Then, he was very gracious about returning on a third day when I noticed a very slight leak in the toilet water line connection. It just needed tightening but I didn't want to tamper with it myself. Cannot recommend anyone higher than I do Garrity Plumbing. You won't be disappointed in the price or the quality of the work. Believe me, I have been doing renovation projects for over 40 years. MISLEADING......came out to give me an estimate, had emphasized on the phone that they "only" charge $90/hour. I guess this IS cheap for a licensed plumber. However when he arrived he told me he would work with one other man (this is a simple installation of a faucet) so it would cost a total of $180 an hour for the two of them. I Asked why he would need the other man, he said to hold the faucet on top while he is tightening it on the bottom, and to run out to his truck to get things he finds he needs as the job progresses (remember, this is just installation of a faucet!) Yikes, the assistant sure isn't doing much highly skilled "plumbering" to earn $90/hour !. I asked if I could hold the faucet for him and he said "no no I'm only insured when my people are working on the job". When he left I watched him go back out to his truck and there was a young kid (maybe 19 or 20?) waiting for him. My guess is this was his assistant for whom he charges an extra $90/hour. Tom Garrity was a very nice man but I found it misleading to say he charges $90 an hour when he is really charging $180 an hour for the work. Also, beware: He does not charge for any units of time less than an hour so if he/they work for for 10 minutes over one hour you will be charged for TWO hours (for two men). He gets an extra star for being nice, but this plumber will cost you a lot more than you think. read more

Tom will gouge you on the price. He will hand you a bill for $3k easily after just 2 hours of work without shame.. (2 faucets replaced, I provided the faucets, and a new cold knob on a shower for $3,000?!) Recent work has been shoddy or half done and then overpriced for the quality. He's a nice guy, sure he will smile and be just as sweet as he can be, while he charges you triple the price for the work. Wish i read Yelp reviews before hiring. He did the same thing to us that he did to others. Quoted $95/hr and showed up with another person to fix a bathroom leak. The other guy stood around while garrity worked. After 20 minutes of only garrity working, we stepped out and returned 25 minutes later and he was done. He was there a total of 45 minutes, it was a simple one man job, we knew this going in. He said the bill was $420. When we complained he said a third guy mysteriously appeared, worked, and left because we never saw him, and that 3 guys worked to solve the problem and they all need to be paid. He further said "we weren't there the entire time and couldn't prove anything." DO NOT USE! The worst experience we have ever had! He will do everything he can to take your money. feel bad about writing about a following parishioner, reason I used Tom in the first place. Saw his ad in Queen of All Saints flyer so I thought he would be a good choice. couple of years ago hired him for some pipe upgrade and new water heater. Later found out charge me more than other plumbers. Charged more than the estimate he gave me. OK, what is done is done. Fast forward to last summer with re cord rain and flooding. I could not for the life of me could not ignite my water heater. Call ed Tom could you please come by and look at it, don't have hot water....sorry.. busy with other calls.. can come out in a couple days. Really? overpaid for water heater, simple task of 10 mins would have solved problem, We go to same parish, neighborhood. Next door neighbor's plumber came over within the hour, took a look, started it and did not charge me ANYTHING! Couple days ago, basement sink not draining, kitchen sink not draining, cannot use toilet, call Tom my fellow neighbor and parishiner, can you please fix? Sorry, really busy, can come out in 2 weeks.
