We love our new Simonton windows! Everyone was accommodating and friendly. Dusty was a pleasure to work with. They gave us the best quote and product. It's the little things that really impressed us, such as standard brass rollers and hidden screw openings. The installation crew were very hard working. The only dissapointing thing was that we didn't expect to have to paint the crown moulding trim on the sliding door by ourselves. We had all new windows installed last week from action.the installers did a nice job and we're courteous to my wife.i was out of town on business and when I returned this week I inspected the work.windows are nice and install looks good except I noticed that the bottom of all the windows were not caulked.we live next to the national forest in a high fire danger area.i caulk the house every year in case of fire to prevent any embers from getting in cracks that could start a fire in case of a wildfire. I called the office to inquire why they did not caulk the bottoms of all the windows.their response was that they never do and they could not explain why.he said he would call back with an answer.of course 5 days later and no response and no offer to finish the job properly and how they advertised that all windows would be caulked. I would alert everyone who has used this company to check the bottom of your window frames and caulk them yourself as this could be an opportunity in a fire for embers to get in. It is a shame that they chose to ignore my request for an answer or try to complete the job as they promised as I would have recommended them to my friends and neighbors. read more

We have Simonton windows throughout my home which have a lifetime warranty and Action Window & Door is assigned to take care of any warranty needs for us. We recently had an issue and they came out to take a look. Alex came on time and was very knowledgeable and professional. He went ahead and looked at all of our windows and doors and found a few other issues and ordered the necessary parts. I usually don't write reviews, but Action Window and Door is definitely deserving of a great review. I bought my windows from AWD two years ago and I have had no issues. I recently bought my new front door from them as well and love it. Nathan was my rep and listened to what I was envisioning and he pulled up the exact door that I was describing. The installer came to the appointment on time, was courteous and professional, and did an amazing job installing my door. The staff is also very courteous and professional. Highly recommend this company for your window and door needs. On a side note, I am having issues with my door hardware as the cylinder was defected. Emtek replaced the cylinder but will not come out and install it for me at no cost. So now this falls on AWD to replace the cylinder, which is wrong. Maybe choose a different hardware company when looking at your hardware needs. read more

Great experience. We had our windows replaced in August it's just taken me some time to sit down and write the review. David came and did the estimate and was very attentive and answered all my questions and let my annoying dog pester him the whole time with no complaints. Questions after that were routed through the office, which sometimes took a bit to get a response from, but overall all of our questions were answered. They did say they would no longer be scheduling weekend appointments, which is a bummer for future customers, but we were able to get ours in. The installer was great. Finished a sliding door and 4 windows in a day and left the place pretty clean afterward too. I shopped around and I couldn't beat the price anywhere either. Installers arrived on time all three days. Windows were installed with clean finishes. Window to door modification was a lot of work and they finished on time. The drywall, door frame, and stucco matches existing. Only area for improvement would be the communication of the work to be done for the door modification. I didn't know who was in charge of it and had to explain it to multiple people. This resulted in the outside light fixture not being shifted over initially but was fixed immediately the next day. read more

This is a great company. They did all the windows in a rental a few years ago and I was very happy with the windows and their work. Fast forward to a month ago and I couldn't remember they did the job for me but when I inquired for a bid the owner remembered me, came out, talked to me about what I needed and gave me a great bid. The techs were very professional and done with the 9 window install in a day. A couple of windows were a little loose in the frame,so the techs came out and adjusted them today. Action window and Door just gave us lovely new exterior doors. In an older house, it is a treat to have secure doors on. The process began a couple months ago, and they were prompt and took time to really help me understand my options. They made some great recommendations, which we ended up taking, for our custom french doors in our bedroom. The product is great so far. My reservation on giving more stars is with the cleanup. The installer worked alone, which I thought was a lot for one person, considering our French doors were quite the project. I was assured it would be done in a timely manner, and even the installer felt he would finish by early evening. Unfortunately, he was here until about 8pm finishing the install. He had to make a run to Home Depot for molding and that took away from finishing earlier. The time wouldn't have been as much of an issue, but when I went to check it all out after he left, there was a lot of debris, like wood chips, nails, and broken glass left behind outside, and, a few shards of glass in our bed. Thankfully, I found them and was able to vacuum before we slept, but it could've been hazardous for us or our daughter. I felt that he should have come prepared to cover furniture that could be near any debris flying as they removed the old door and window, even though furniture was moved more than 5 ft. from door (per the contractors instruction). Additionally, the caulking job done on inside of door frame was not clean, and there are spots that seem like they need to be refilled. I'd be willing to give them another chance based on their punctuality and product, but would definitely make sure there is ample labor and clean up. read more

Several years ago I worked with David and was told that my Simonton screen on my French door came with a lifetime warranty. Just this past week a friend's dog ripped my screen to pieces. Our old single pane Aluminium windows simply radiated heat, were difficult to open and also had drafts. Initially, I went to home depot to ask how much it would cost to replace 7 of our windows. Their quote was cheaper than I anticipated but still pretty expensive. Also, the reviews for Home Depot windows are mediocre. Fortunately, I decided to get 3 quotes from 3 recommended window companies, Simonton, Milgard and Anlin, for all 16 windows. Nathan and Dave from Action Window & Door came and gave me a great demonstration of their product and gave a good initial quote. They also responded quickly to my requests for adjusting the quote with different options. One great point was that Dave was thinking while doing the quote. He suggested replacing our 'slider' bathroom windows with double-hung windows, which makes perfect sense (obvious in hindsight) but he was the only rep to suggest this change. After finalizing my order they installed my new windows within two weeks. The installer, Alex, was extremely courteous and left everything very clean. There was one mistake in the order, but Action Window & Door quickly rectified the error. We have had the windows for a month now, and are extremely pleased. ps this company serves all of San Diego. Had my windows replaced a couple months ago. Dave came out to give the quote, the owner. He was no pressure and very knowledgeable. Got quotes from 2 other SD area window companies, one pressured me to sign a contract on the spot (never a good sign) and the other one did not seem very honest, told me a couple different stories that contradicted each other.... Dave offered to help me with exisring windows that had gotten air in them and the glass needed replaced. We bought the house a year ago, the original window was made by a company no longer in business. Dave scored some replacement glass and had it installed as part of the original quote. Talked to 3 different window installation companies (AWD being the third). I thought I had made up my mind after the 2nd sales guy came by to give me an estimate because he beat the first guy's price. When Nathan came over, I figured he'd quote me a price similar to what the other two sales guys I talked to gave me. I was wrong. Nathan gave me a price for 7 windows that wasn't even close to the other two companies. And all three companies had the same quality window options. I don't know how AWD did it, but I'm now sitting in a house that is drastically cooler because of the awesome new windows that were installed. I decided that replacing my windows was my first priority in my new house. After getting a couple quotes from other highly-rated companies in San Diego, I ultimately decided to complete the job with Action Window & Door. I first found them on the SDG&E Energy Upgrade website as a certified window replacement vendor and I appreciated the initial presentation by the sales representative Nathan. I had a thousand questions, and he was very helpful. I also was able to reach him on multiple occasions both via email and phone after my initial consultation. I ended up choosing Action because they had the best price for the best product (and warranty). My final order consisted of 9 windows of varying shapes/sizes, 1 sliding door and 1 set of French doors. A second employee came out for a final measurement, who was also very helpful and professional. I was somewhat disappointed with the office once my order was placed. I had to call several times to get updates on the status of my installation since it was taking longer than initially expected. I spoke with Melissa, the manager, who gave me an anticipated timeline for shipment and painting of the French doors and stated that she would call me to schedule my installation a week after the doors were painted. I waited a week and a half and still had not received a call so I had to make an effort to finally get the installation scheduled. It took 7-8 weeks from signing the contract to installation. I think in the future, a courtesy call for customers waiting on installation would make the customer service great as this waiting and calling the office myself was frustrating. Anyway, the installation went great. They sent 3 technicians who projected it would take a day and a half to finish the job, but they worked hard to complete the job within the first day. The quality of the work was top-notch. The job required resizing the opening for the French doors, and lifting the slider to the second floor--both time consuming and requiring skill. The only suggestion for improvement was completing a final sweep to ensure good cleanup. All the framing shards were still in the downstairs bathroom, and I am still finding a couple pieces around the house. I figured the long day compromised the cleanup a little. I am very very happy with the final product...both the Simonton windows and Therma Tru patio doors. My home is comfier, quieter and the windows offer a clean look both on the inside and outside. (I am definitely glad I upgraded to the Craftsman exterior frame on the windows. It looks great!) I am also glad I went with the sound package in the bedroom windows since any noise I can cut down is worth it. Overall, I am glad I went with Action Window & Door and I am glad that my first house project went relatively smoothly. Noticed a window that needed to be repaired and thought I should look up the folks who installed my french doors 3 years ago. I thought I had left them a yelp review, but realized I didn't so here it goes... I often work from home and desperately needed to install french doors to close the open entrance for my home office. It was nearly impossible to find a door company who will install everything for it to work. At one point, I even had an outdoor model installed which was hideous and left my wife in tears. Originally, I was told they didn't install the jamb? This was the case for most companies, especially since the entrance was rather large and not "normal shaped". For some reason, Action Window & Door reached out to me and said they'd have the owner, David, come and look. David was prompt, extremely professional, and was very cognizant of what I needed. I received a very reasonable quote and his team came in and installed exactly what I was looking for! I am so grateful for my experience with them and have been extremely satisfied. I had my windows installed in August and I am incredibly pleased with the product and company. I can't speak more highly of a company from the office staff, to the sales rep, to the installers, and to the owner. The office staff is always pleasant and very responsive to emails/calls. The owner was in my area and stopped by to see how the installation was going. I was impressed by that because what owner ever stops by to see the work being done? Not usually. I had three other estimates and Action Window and Door was by far the most cost effective given the excellent quality of their windows. I was thinking of canceling my appointment because I thought they would be really expensive, but out of the companies that had given me quotes, AWD was the least expensive. Plus, I didn't have to BUY NOW or lose my 15% discount...none of that stuff was an issue. They gave me the quote and that was it...I could actually think about it and not feel the pressure of the "sale" ending. My sales rep Nathan was very knowledgeable with the product he was selling me. He was the ONLY person who recommended tempered glass on my windows because I live in a high fire risk area (and he showed this to me on a map, so it wasn't an issue of him "up-selling" me). These windows had all of the other specs that the other energy efficient windows had (dual pane, argon gas in between panes, blocks UV rays, brass rollers, virgin vinyl, etc.). Furthermore, these windows have a double lifetime warranty, so if I ever sell my place the new owners will be covered. A big selling point! The installers were on time, professional, worked incredibly hard, and got 2 large patio sliders and 5 windows replaced in 1 day. I have had these windows since August. Besides my home looking so much prettier, the temperature in my 2 story home is equalized. The upstairs is only a few degrees warmer than the downstairs, whereas with my aluminum windows there was about a 10 degree difference between up and downstairs. The windows slide nicely and really reduce outside noises. My neighbors were having a small party on their patio and I shut the window and couldn't hear a thing! AWD has already gone above and beyond for me as they have installed two child safety locks (that's what I am calling them) so my 5 year old can't easily access going outside. Additionally, they noticed the screen for my patio door was warped and replaced it at no cost to me. Another reason I like this company is because if ANYTHING goes wrong, I contact them....not the manufacturer or third party. These 5 star ratings that people are giving this company are for a reason. These folks installed retrofit windows for my condo, replacing plexiglass from the 80s. Extremely happy with the new glass! Installation was performed by Alex and Alex who were very quick and did an excellent job. I liked that they noticed that one of the panes had a couple of scratches from the factory and needed to be replaced. They initiated that process with the manufacturer, so all I had to do was schedule the time for the replacement to be installed. read more

Take a look at my NEW replacement window that Simonton delivered. It has some serious issues to say the least. This was a warranty-replacement sash for one of my several sliders that I had installed about 10 years ago. Problem is...the newly manufactured Simonton window has more defects than my 10-year old sash! After several attempts to resolve the issue, since June 2015, I decided I needed to escalate. I sent a communication to Simonton's CEO (no response) as well as several urgent online service requests (no response). Note that it is almost impossible to find an email for anyone at this company to help resolve problems. But anyway, now I have this wonderful exhibit of Simonton's window to display to all potential buyers. Note that I opted for the etched border. Isn't it attractive??...if you can detect the border through the mess of silvering and fingerprints BETWEEN the panes. Oh well, I guess I will just deal with my defective window until I have the whole set of sliders replaced in a few years. Needless to say, I don't think I will be opting for Simonton next time. Update: Action Window and Door is working Simonton to get my window. Update 2: Action Window & Door just installed a replacement sash (on 9-25-15) for my defective window. Excellent and fair pricing. I recieved quotes from bm windows, brothers and anderson windows in san diego. Action was slightly less expensive but not by much. However i was sold on their attention to detail and a positive recommendation from a neighbor. They explained the whole process including material, installation, payment, and clean up with enthusiasm and thoroughness. The Installers were clean loooking and professional. They even laid a tarp down so the carpet wouldn't get soiled. The windows look fantastic and i couldnt be more satisfied. While planning a complete overhaul to all the original 1959 windows & patio/French doors of the entire house, I did the leg work through research & multiple estimates (at least 5 companies encompassing different window manufactures). Action Windows shown through with a beautiful quality/warranty with the Simonton Daylight Max, a great team, & their ability to compete with a different window contractors bid (another high quality, but only a West Coast, window manufacturer with a good warranty/reviews, who also was trustworthy). The job was between the two but Simonton's double lifetime warranty & Actions competitiveness won. My first estimate was through HD, who have their own version made from Simonton but a few steps down in window quality (Simonton's cheapest version) & the warranty was through HD (bad) rather then Simonton (awesome- double lifetime & accidental glass breakage). David Baldwin, the owner of Action, was able to get me the Daylight Max under the HD price, plus we had some new construction not included on that HD bid (5' wide garden window, French doors with side lights, etc). After reading multiple reviews on HD insulation & warranty, thank goodness I did additional estimates. At that point I had completed at least 3 estimates & was DONE with the used car salesmanship I had seen/heard "order today only for this price", etc. David was not that way at all! He was straight forward, not pushy, & the fact he knew he had a great product & installation team was evident. On the Action team, everyone was amazing & everything was run very professionally (which I appreciate more & more as I'm having additional work done on my home). David originally came out to look at the windows & to take estimate dimensions; then returned a few more times during the job to do final measurements & to look at the work his installers did. He was funny, professional, & knew his product. Always quick at returning phone calls, emails, or texts (I did have a lot of questions). From there I met Amy who runs the office & she was very sweet & again fast with any concerns/questions. Throughout the job a few things were modified or added; due to my requests, not theirs hiking the job, or we found construction issues like a vent pipe where the garden window was being installed & David/Amy were able to resolve the issues & with a fair price. Prior to changing a single (2-sided-6' long) patio door w/ a window on each side to a 4 panel French slider, 12' long, David researched the cost through Simonton & also alerted me to possible problems & gave me a top cost if a new frame needed to be done. Through each step a modification for change request was made from the office & sent to me to sign. During the installation, it was pretty easy despite my dogs not liking anyone in our home. The main installation was done by Alex & Demetry. Both installers were gentlemen, patient with my obnoxious dogs, & patient with any questions I had. With all the construction recently I've had done, I have to admit it was nice having English speaking installers, better yet an eastern-European accent, who could communicate the plan or answer questions. Plus, ladies, (I'm married myself), they certainly do not hurt the eyes (I know that's bad!). As it was at least 3 days of installation due to new construction & replacing all the windows, there were a few burps. The garden window is made by a different company (although Simonton's warranty stands behind it). But the installers hadn't realized that window was on hold & started to take down my kitchen window, & as I was keeping my dogs occupied in another area, I didn't note the take down. Alex made sure the kitchen area was secure until the garden window came in, which I appreciated. Since the complete installation (dec '13), I've had 2 service calls. One was the fact that cranking the garden window led to it hitting the side of the house & a 2nd was the screen to the 4 panel 12' French slider, Action Windows was very quick at solving the problems. Alex was out shortly to put a stop piece in the garden window so as I'm cranking the sides open (hard to see what's going on on the outside when reaching over a kitchen cabinet 2.5' & into a 2.5 ft extended window when ur 5'2" tall) it now automatically stops before hitting the side of the house. The second call just took place a few days ago & Paul took the time to fix the double screened slider so it rolled properly without lifting to scratch the vinyl & the screen door handles matched height wise. sounds simple, but it took almost 2 hrs of tweaking different parts to make it all work, including re-painting any scratches, etc. On top of that David called to see how satisfied I was with the repairs. Action Windows does quality work that they stand behind. I have been completely satisfied with every step taken in my window/door upgrade. I plan to again use their service to replace my front door & backyard door. Anyone who asks, I am referring them! read more
