What a fun experience! I don't even know how to give a proper review for Activate other than saying, it's a very active place to be! Very interactive and fun! I went with one other person and we had a blast. It's a little pricey at about $30/person for 60 minutes, but be on the lookout for discounts! Some tips: - Wear loose fitted clothing - you WILL be moving! And if you're competitive, even moreso a reason to bring a hair tie if needed! - look for discount codes out there! - make a reservation! Lots of fun and a great workout without having to be in a gym. There are different rooms where you can play different games. They provide free lockers to store your things. You get wrist bands that you scan to play before entering the room. If someone's hogging a room, you can queue up and kick them out. Not all the rooms were air conditioned so it got hot being in some of them. The mega grid room was well air conditioned as it should be because everyone's running around. Make sure you're dressed to workout because you're going to sweat. Highly recommend good shoes that support lateral movement. Be sure to wash your hands after. read more

Super fun experience! Came on the weekend at a random time. It wasn't too busy which was nice. I would definitely advise people to try to come when it's not busy. During busy periods, there can be a lot of kids running around and longer wait times for rooms which can heavily impact the experience. The games were overall pretty fun! They were not always the best explained but it's easy to pick up once you're in there. My groups favorite ended up being the Mega Grid Tile Game. Also, you will get such a good workout in at this place. It truly felt like a long HIIT workout haha I was sweating! My one comment would be the air. Some of the rooms were a bit warm. Love Activate!! Not only is it fun to play the different games, but you also get quite a good workout in! There are lots of game options to choose from, and generally pretty easy to understand with how the game works with instructions on the screens before you go into a room. To play, it's easy with just scanning the wristband from each player and also nice that it displays how much time you have left. It can get busy depending how many others are at the place, but you can generally always find one to play with a short wait. Games go by quick but if there is no one waiting after your group, sometimes you can just keep playing! I had such a great experience at this games center at the Culver City Westfield Mall for a friend's birthday! The types of games here reminded me of Squid Games such as the multicolored floor games. When you arrive, the staff gives you a bracelet that will be used to open the multiple game rooms, track how many points you earn, and also show how much time you have left to play. They have a lot of different games from hide and seek to hoops. The games are interactive with the room itself. There's up to 5 people in each room at a time I believe and you can play as a team or against each other. Great for team-building activities. For parking, since its located at the mall there's plenty of free milk parking. They have lockers to store your belongings. They also have a bathroom and water fountains. Prepare to run and sweat! My thirty three year old gay self walked in thinking it was going to be light cardio and suddenly I am out here climbing, running, jumping, calculating, sweating like I'm auditioning for a music video. And honestly it was everything. The rooms are so well designed and each one feels like a level in a video game. Joshua deserves a crown because he treated our group with so much patience and hype energy. We came with seven people for a birthday and let me tell you now it is best in groups of five because that is the max for each room. Ninety minutes is a full journey. Ninety minutes is a novella. Ninety minutes is you questioning every time you skipped the gym. If you are a beginner or you have friends like me who think walking to the car counts as cardio I suggest starting with sixty minutes. And let me say this with love and concern. Go outside during your breaks and breathe. Touch the air. Touch the sky. I do not know if the AC was on but she was fighting for her life. You will sweat. You will sweat so much you will come out looking like you just finished a marathon. Everyone in my group was drenched. Some people were laying on the floor trying to recover. This is not a cute little warm up before the mall. This is something you do and then you go home and rethink your decisions. The restrooms are clean which is a blessing because you will want to splash cold water on your face and ask yourself why you thought you were still twenty one. Activate was so much fun! I went with a group of 3. We found an opening promo and got 1 hour of play for free. It wasn't crowded when we went, so we got to play all of the games that were open. There were a few that were in maintenance. The entrance is outside the mall next to Best Buy. The check-in process was pretty easy. You can sign the waiver in advance if you want to save a little time. At check-in, they gave us wristbands which are used to tap into the games. We then went to a row of tablets to activate the wristbands and link them to our individual player accounts. If you don't do the waiver in advance, you sign it here. There are also free lockers to put your belongings, a few tables to sit down, and bathrooms. The lockers are really helpful because they don't allow water in the game area, and it's easier to play if you aren't carrying things! They give you a separate wristband for an assigned locker at check-in. The game area is dark and each game room is outlined with neon lights. There are 11 different rooms, and each room has a selection of collaborative and competitive games. You select the game you want to play and the level, which starts at 1 and then unlocks as you pass each level. Then each person taps in their wristbands and their player names appear on the screen. Then you press Start. If another group is in the room, it will tell you to wait. As soon as it is your turn, it will tell you to go in. Once you're in the room, the game starts very quickly. For some of them, we needed a trial round to understand what the game entailed! If you pass, you get points added to your player account. If you playing collaborative games, each individual gets the same # of points. Each game lasts about 2 minutes. If no one is waiting outside, the room tells you that you have the option to replay/play the next level of the same game. If someone is waiting, then the room tells you to leave the room within 5-10 seconds. It's a pretty efficient turnaround. I'm curious to see how many groups they let in at a time once they officially open. For us, it wasn't too crowded - we were always able to find a room that had a group inside and no wait outside. Hopefully they keep it that way! The games are really fun, and they are also a workout! We were running, jumping, ducking and throwing balls. The light-up environment was cool. There's a good mix, from throwing basketballs into hoops to running/jumping around a grid and mega grid, to spot the difference and memory games. It's fun for all ages. We saw a few families with younger children there. One of the rooms malfunctioned while we were in there, and there was a staff member waiting for us outside to offer us 10 extra minutes of play time to make up for it. The staff were very helpful in showing us how the space works and kindly checking in to make sure we were good. One thing to keep in mind is that the play time included all of the time spent there once we activated our wristbands, not just play time inside the rooms. Their normal prices are 60 minutes for $30 and 90 minutes for $40. When our timer went out, we checked our wristband status and it said we got 1 more game. There are also prizes you can redeem with coins that you earn (ex. stickers, water bottle, more play time). I would bring hand sanitizer with me next time. I didn't see anyone wiping down the surfaces, and these games are all about touching screens/lights/buttons/balls, not to mention the game selection screens outside each room! Activate is a new kind of arcade. I like that there are collaborative and competitive game options, and I think it's cool that a group is inside a private room to play. There's no one looking over your shoulder, and it's impossible for anyone to hog a game if another group is waiting. I saw this on social media and wanted to check it out since it was relatively close by. I couldn't quite figure out the concept, but it was easy once you went inside. The pricing is pretty fair and this is great for all ages. Wear workout clothes, you can get sweaty. Also if you're slightly germaphobic, bring hand sanitizer and wear a mask. It gets warm and sweaty and with a ton of people running around, it wouldn't be too hard to get sick there. So you sign up for your time slot, you check in the front and get wrist bands and one locker band for the group. It was plenty big for 4 of us. Once you go inside, there are multiple rooms and I think roughly 5 games for each room. You can play as a group or against each other. You select what you want and you go in. It's very fast paced so you never feel like you're waiting too long for any games. We had a lot of fun and will go back. Hoping they open up more of these even closer to the westside. read more

Family of four on a Friday night had an absolute blast here! Armando checked us in as the "game master" and did an amazing job. We got checked in quickly with the waivers, our locker, nice clean bathroom and we're on our way for the games! He explained on one of the screens infront of the first game room how to see the instructions / explanation of how the game works. He checked on us several times throughout the 90 minutes we had there to make sure we were doing well and accessing all they had to offer including checking the score board and seeing our individual points. Definitely an experience! We had such a great time at Activate and would love to do it again. Located at the mall but entrance is outside and closest parking is by Best Buy. I've been here with a group both on a weekday and a weekend and can say that its much better during the weekday. It can get busy during the weekend but still have plenty of time for the rooms. Check in was easy, we signed the waivers ahead of time and chose our names before heading over! The username is linked to your account and is the name you use every time you go. They have lockers for free, just make sure to ask. Games are great. There is a wide variety of the types of games. The rooms are dark with neon lights. Just be aware because it can be a little over stimulating. You can select the rooms, each game is about 1-2 mins, depending if you'd like to go to the next level and if no one is waiting. The games are fun, there can be up to 5 people in a room, so if you have a big group, just team them up! Games are scored and you will see your rank and score on the score board. It can be played competitively, as a team or individual. We loved competing against each other! Overall, a great experience! Would definitely consider going back again. read more

Bring a water bottle! Or 2! They have complimentary lockers that use a wristband to lock and unlock it for added security. It's a really great place for a workout. I would recommend not taking children under the age of 8 because the rooms require a bit of logic that can be difficult for younger children to understand. If you do decide to bring children under the age of 8 there's only about one or two rooms that you could do over and over with little to no problem. The staff is really great, super nice and accommodating. But again, please bring a water bottle. They have a public water fountain and clean restrooms, but with the lockers you can bring your own water bottle and take breaks to come out and have water without waiting for the fountain line. The system is pretty simple you come in and check in at the front desk. They give you a wristband that is assigned to you once you sign your waiver. This wristband is what you use to scan under the monitor for entry to each room in order to keep track of your score. Your wristband is associated with your phone number or email and then you have an allotted amount of time on your wristband which is typically one hour. You can extend the time by 30 min increments once your time runs out. But usually you're pretty wiped out after an hour. Great as a play date option or birthday parties because the rooms are basically mini games so they only last 2 to 3 minutes so you can split up larger groups and regroup later. They do require minimum two people in each room at any given time. But it's a lot of fun and a really great workout. There is little air conditioning, but good airflow so you will feel the heat, but it's not unbearable at all. They have iPads with scanners where you can check your progress using your wristband and there's a projected leaderboard with live updates. Each room gives an explanation of how the game works before going in so you don't have to really waste time figuring it out. And you have to master each level before going up to the next level so you can't start at level 10 you have to go through levels 1 through 9 in each room. Each room has multiple types of games within the category that you can do so essentially there's about 50 to 70 levels in each room. There is no way you can complete all of the levels in all of the games in every room in one afternoon you will most certainly need to come back. read more

This place is absolutely amazing!!! we came across this place when I was in Atlanta, Georgia moving my daughter into college. I was looking for something fun to do with her and found this place. and oh my God, unbelievably fun, unique and just all around exceptional experience. You could do a 60 minute or 90 minute we did 90 minutes. You have the way to go into a room until the group before you is done you use a wristband that they give you to activate the room. There's different levels that you can use or proceed through. There's many different rooms that you can play in with your group or with others. Sometimes the game ended too quickly when we may not have done too well however what we did, we got to climb different levels . From basketball, shooting to numbers and lights on the floor to lasers to numbers and letters to spelling words were put in a ball in a hole. I mean it's second to none. Only thing I was a little disappointed about was that there was no private room for hosting a party at the Location in Atlanta nor the Location location in Culver City. I must say I'm totally shocked. I looked it up yesterday to host a 12th birthday party for my son in Culver City and I see that the location is temporarily closed please can someone tell me what happened? Why did this close? And so soon. I noticed there was one in Ontario however that's way too far from where I live. Guess I have to wait till another location for conversation opens up again matter which course that will probably be the time. Try to find an activate if you can, it won't be disappointed. read more

I recently hosted a birthday party here for 20+ kids. During the Planning, I found the activate team to be extremely attentive and patient with all my questions. Both in person and on the phone, and locally and even through the nationwide main number. (yes I called both numbers) The service alone is proof positive that you should have a party here. The manager at the Culver City location, Angel, was very kind and accommodating, and you can tell that the employees look satisfied working there. Some tips to know when booking ; Call in advance to find out when the least booked times will be. It's not a guarantee, it will help though. I booked my party at 10 AM hoping that there would be less people but guess what they were several birthday parties close in the next timeslots. There is a limit per reservation slot. Definitely have your party sign the waivers before entering the facility. It will save at least 10 to 15 minutes. Bring a water bottle as I have found that even after 45 minutes the kids come out looking for water. There is a water fountain FYI. Recommend duration: 60 minutes is a good amount of time. But 90 minutes is even better, especially if you have kids who are just super active. With my group of kids, several of them got hungry halfway through it and one of them stopped after 45 minutes. The rest of them did the full 90 minutes with two water breaks. I also recommended doing 90 minutes if you are booking a popular timeslot --this way, you are getting some cushion , because there will be other people queueing up for the game rooms. There is no food or drink allowed except water in the facility. All the kids were starving afterwards having worked up a good time in the game rooms. Thus, if you need food and you are having a party, I recommend Super Dumpling, which is next-door that can accommodate large parties. I went on opening day. This was a really neat place. I like how each room has a totally different setup (hoops, guns/lasers, buttons on the wall, grid on the floor, etc..). And then you have a choice of so many different games in each room. You will definitely get a workout for a lot of the games so come prepared! I just did went with my wife but we had a lot of fun doing both the communal games and the competive games (with or against each other). And for $30 an hour of $40 a hour-and-a-half, I would say it actually is very fairly priced. read more

Check-in was smooth overall ...we had one small hiccup, but the staff explained everything clearly and resolved it right away. One thing that could be improved is having more employees available in the back area to help explain how the rooms work. I have come with my friends a good amount of times and have enjoyed it every single time. Unfortunately, this evening we had a very brutal time due to how hot it was. I'm not sure if the A/C was broken or what but it was so unbearably hot we had to leave 40 minutes early because of how hot and musty it was and it wasn't even enjoyable.
