The strawberry matcha was nice and could taste both. Enjoyed just wasn't enough and an actual cup instead of plastic would be nice. The shot of espresso, I prefer more viscous and there was no spoon to break the crema but honestly wasn't much to need one. Still it was ok just a thin tasting shot with no flavor or life to it. Love the stainless glass though. They don't have a price difference between single or double shot. The service here was ok it was a little bit slow considering the amount of people that were there. I liked the unique items on the menu. The difference beverages you don't find at every cafe shop. They had some pastries and other "snack" items. They also sell wine but starting at 11 am. The inside is a bit small so it's more of a grab to go place. They don't have that many tables. The parking in this area isn't free you have to pay for parking at the meter. I tried their simple avocado toast with cream cheese and that was good as expected. It's a little pricey for something like this at $10. For the drinks I tried the Les fleur which is an early gray matcha drink and that was by far my favorite. The creaminess from the earl gray salt foam really blended well with the matcha. The drink was even aesthetically pleasing. I would come here just for this drink. The other drink I tried was the Uji city fizz. I would say pass on this drink if you don't like yuzu in your matches and lattes. It didn't suit my palate. It had a refreshing taste but the flavors didn't mesh well for me. The cafe is really cozy and vibey with large windows for views. They use Rocky's matcha here, which I heard is a popular American matcha brand. The perfect coffee shop for your matcha fix! I was craving matcha this weekend and wanted to try a new spot. While in the downtown area I spotted fifth vessel coffee and I'm sooo happy I decided to check it out! It's located downtown so naturally parking can be a pain, but I was able to find street parking not too far away. I ordered the strawberry matcha "Ichigo" and LOVED it! Perfect texture, creamy + smooth and right amount of sweetness from the strawberry portion to balance out the umami flavor. I also tried the blueberry scone (served warm) and it was delicious! The blueberries were tart + sweet and the actual dough was so soft and not overly sugary. The only shock factor was the price. The total price was $28 for two matcha + the scone which I was a little surprised by. However, I just knew for those prices, they must back it up with excellent quality (which they did lol). The ambiance of the coffee shop was quite nice as well. The large windows in the front of the store were open allowing for a nice fall breeze. This is a cool, quaint spot off the rain in downtown Houston. I was thirsty so I stopped to get a matcha to quench my thirst and it was great. My boyfriend and I try a new coffee shop every Saturday, and this past weekend we checked out Fifth Vessel. It's a small cafe tucked into a corner off Main Street, but right now there is a lot of noise from construction happening directly in front of it. We arrived around 8:30 in the morning and there was only one other person inside. People came and went pretty steadily but not a lot of them stayed. We had planned to hang out and play cards, but we forgot to bring them. With all the construction noise it wouldn't have been the most relaxing spot anyway. I ordered an iced chai with almond milk and I really liked it. It was sweeter than I usually prefer, probably because of the almond milk but the flavor was so good that I didn't mind. My boyfriend got an iced coffee and said it had a great taste and strong brew, just the way he likes it. I've been wanting to try Fifth Vessel for a while and I'm so glad I finally did - it was delicious! The interior was beautiful as well and I ended up staying to study for a while. I got the Momo (matcha and peach) and it was amazing. I drank it in just a few minutes and wanted another drink, but I will say they were quite expensive so I refrained. There are several matcha and coffee drinks that I'm excited to try in the future though! Quite possibly the best place to get your pick-me-ups. Fifth Vessel Coffee uses Rocky's Matcha, a popular brand hailing from LA but importing matcha from Japan with some above-average quality of teas, so I was excited to try some different types of matcha lattes that aren't made from clunky, bitter, oxidized, and/or overly-astringent matcha. The drinks, as expected, were delicious. The recipes are really interesting and makes you want to try to make some yourself. The Kaede Matcha was pretty good, but the limited blueberry matcha was even better. The espresso-based lattes were also a knock out of the park. I tried a few food menu items with my drinks to properly spend some time there as I worked on things in the cafe. I don't think you can go wrong with anything there, but the food is good enough to be dangerously addicting. I noticed that they're pretty active in the coffee and matcha community around Austin, so I'm excited to see them around more whenever I visit Houston. read more

Cool lil coffee shop on the edge of downtown. I think what I ordered was called cardamom matcha. It was very cute layered drink. Now I'm not an avid coffee drinker so I could be wrong. So take my suggestion as a grain of salt lol. Maybe infuse the foam or include a spoon so the guest knows to mix it. The goodness was at the bottom. The top was just bland so first few sips were confusion until I got the bright idea to combine everything. Ten stars. This is one of my favorite coffee shops I've visited in awhile. Find them in the heart of downtown Houston. They are tucked at the end of a street, right before a big bridge/ramp. The outside has a huge colorful mural that is fun and welcoming in itself. I then saw the Bible verse on the outside by the front door that explained why the staff was beyond lovely and clearly working to not only serve great food, but love people well too. They are legit. The woman behind the counter had the warmest smile and I wanted to give her my full attention but my eyes were also distracted by the amazing-looking pastries, the detailed coffee menu, and items marked as their specialties. My design-loving soul also was soaking in the stunning wood-paneled walls with the curved shelves, mod light fixtures, and incredible natural light pouring through the windows. I wanted to take photos of everything. I saw on their Yelp page that folks love their homemade sausage rolls. Since my husband is from England, he was delighted to find an American spot that sold those and ordered one immediately, along with an espresso. I ordered the sourdough toast with scrambled eggs for our baby and a breakfast burrito for myself. I looove matcha and saw that they're known for their peach matcha and couldn't resist. When you're in the south and you see an item with peaches, you order it. Everything was amazing. Even the simple toast and eggs seemed made from scratch and had delightful herbs and a buttery texture. My baby loved it but I definitely ate as much of that as I could. I swung by this spot on a crisp Sunday morning and decided to grab a cortado with a slice of coffee cake. I'll admit, I've never spent so much on a single slice of coffee cake, but hey, there's a first time for everything. The café's interior gave tremendous modern vibes with large windows that flooded the space with natural light and sleek, wood-paneled walls - I did not expect for the indoor space to be slightly cramped. I also couldn't get enough of the Harley Davidson wood benches out front. Fifth Vessel Coffee Co. truly shines in Houston's buzzing coffee scene and I found it to be a laid-back yet refined atmosphere that definitely made me want to stick around. What an amazing place for folks who nerd out on coffee. They source exceptional beans from roasters around the world and have an extensive pour over menu. All three pour overs that I had were very well made, to boot. I had a coffee from Nomad, a quite well known roaster in Barcelona that I'd never been able to try before, and also two coffees from a roaster in France. They have beans from some US based roasters, quite a few from Australia, and several other countries. They were running out of beans for one that I ordered, so they made me a small batch with the last of the beans on the house. Their espresso is also excellent. I had two house espressos and one super espresso (this was across 4 different visits, I should point out in case my doctor ever reads this). I also had a seasonal drink, an espresso tonic over ice with a peach jasmine syrup. It was awesome. The staff was friendly, engaging, indulgent of curious nerds like me, and really know their stuff. It is also a nice spot to hang out and get some work done. Had probably 5 or 6 tables for two plus two long communal tables. Can't recommend this place highly enough. read more
