After a short explanation of my needs he just said "OK, let's take a look at the space and talk about it." He explained every step of what they'd do to install a tankless water heater, he looked at the whole area to check for pipes, electrical access, spacing inside and out for a condensation line - making feel very comfortable that it would be planned before the installation to avoid last minute issues. A big plus, he told me he'd be part of the installation team. He also told me I should go ahead and get another few quotes. I felt some resistance, and before I could stop, I punched through whatever it was. I pulled out the drill and saw black plastic shards on the drill bit. Had the immediate "oh sh*t" moment. I cut some of the dry wall away to see what I had just hit, and sure enough, it was a pipe. I called the number on this listing and spoke with Ijaz. He was very professional over the phone and said he could come by in the afternoon and quoted a ballpark price, ~$500, over the phone. He ended up arriving a couple of hours late and explained he had an emergency call, and his clothes showed it. He said he'd want to get changed before working on my house to not get it dirty and asked if he could come by the next day. I appreciated that he actually drove over to tell me this instead of just canceling on me or no-showing. I asked if he could at least take a look, and he did so gladly. He confirmed it was a vent pipe and not a waste water drain. I was pretty relieved, and he said that it was a DIY job I could do myself by just using ABS glue. He walked me through how I could do the repair myself. As he left, I offered to pay him at least for the inspection and his advice, and he declined and said it was okay. I insisted and gave him a small amount of cash. Shortly after, he knocked on the door and said he had some glue in his van. He came in and completed the repair free of charge.
