I needed to move a power outlet in the laundry area to accommodate the new cabinets I was installing around the washer and dryer. When cutting into the drywall, I grazed the hot water line. I quickly noticed the mistake and turned the water off at the main (under two minutes). When the plumber came over to fix (solder) the pinhole in the hot water line, he advised I have the wall checked for moisture. I kind of laughed it off. How much damage could a pinhole leak cause? After thinking about it, I decided to follow the plumbers advice. I did some research and called a couple restoration service companies. The first couple companies I called had employees that were rude, unprofessional or didn't answer the phone. When I called Restoration 1, I talked to Kevin, who was professional, understanding and offered to have someone come out the same day. When the guy from Restoration 1 arrived, he used a moisture meter on the wall to confirm the wall was soaked. He opened up the wall a little, set up some industrial type fans to dry the wall and then picked up the equipment a couple days later. I happened to stumble across Restoration 1 on Yelp and saw all of the 5-start ratings. I called at ~11 PM one night and was told I would be contacted the following morning. Kevin did call the next morning and was quick to schedule something quickly. During the appointment, Kevin was very professional and just gave you the sense very quickly that everything would be OK and that he would take care of our issue. While signing the paperwork for his restoration services, he gives you a list of what he is going to do and the cost. This is great so you know exactly what will be done and the how much to expect it to cost in the end. We also worked with Marcos, his project manager, who was very professional as well - always pleasant and showed up on time every time. Another gentleman, Jerry, had to come and check on the equipment every once in awhile. He was always prompt and did a great job too. We recently had a major flood in our house and reached out to Restoration 1 to help us dry out the mess. Within the hour Kevin and Jerry were at our house to assess the damage and start the dry out process. Marcos, the project manager, arrived the next day to further assess the damage and get us on the road to decontamination and rebuild. They connected us with another team to help clean out all the furniture, clothes, etc. so we wouldn't have to sift through the mess. We had water damage in our kitchen. Marcos was the project manager and he was great! He was very accessible and responded immediately throughout the entire process via text. He was able to tell me within 5 minutes when he could come out and actually came about an hour after contacting him. He measured the area and the moisture level. He setup within a couple of days, took photos for the insurance company, and had damaged material removed within 1-2 days (due to waiting for insurance approval for removal of additional damaged areas). The insurance company asked them to keep as much of the cabinet facing/doors etc as possible that wasn't damaged and the crew sprayed the "salvageable cabinets" that were removed with "organic" material that would prevent mold growth. The whole drying process took 5 days (he said 3-5 days initially- depending on extent). The containment plastic held by poles (floor to ceiling) kept exterior areas clean. I thought I had to remove our stuff from the cabinets so I went ahead and did that, but I later found out that he said their people usually pack things away into boxes. With that being said, the things (pans/bowls etc) they did remove (due to additional cabinet removal) were left in the contained space and got dusty. I had to wash everything which was more work than I wanted. One of their guys also left our sink outdoors which I brought into the house (maybe they figured it would be replaced anyways). However, all of these things can be rectified and serves as a point of discussion for future clients. (I was told by Kevin that a discussion was had with his employees, and so I don't foresee another situation like this occurring.) Marcos came in at the end to measure the moisture level, remove the containment, vacuumed the area, and put tape around the cut wood floor edges for safety. Marcos did a great job of communicating with us and the insurance company to make sure he did what was required by the insurance company so we wouldn't have out of pocket expenses. That was important to us! Thanks!!! {Update: I was nervous when our insurance adjuster initially told us we chose the restoration contractor and would have to pay the difference as we didn't even get an estimate from them before we hired them as we trusted their word (in hindsight, mistake learned as we were lucky to get a company that cares about their word). Kevin was true to his word and worked it out with the adjuster for his reimbursement. Excellent, honest, professional people who care about their customers and their work from beginning to end. I was extremely impressed with Restoration 1 of Central Orange County. I worked closely with Kevin Stout their General Manager and Marcos their lead water damage technician. Both individuals were extremely competent, easy to work with, patient and clearly took great pride in their work. Had a significant 1" copper pipe joint leak in our laundry room wall that flooded our laundry room and adjoining garage floor. Dealt with Kevin the General Manager and Marcos who led their actual repair team. Both Kevin and Marcos were highly professional and a dream to work with. We have two young granddaughters in our home and their safety is of primary concern to us. The fact that they used only nontoxic solutions composed of organic thyme and salt water to clean all the areas was very reassuring. Yes they used several large blowers and dehumidifiers for 4 days but it was the fact that they used child and pet safe cleaning liquids that made us feel comfortable throughout the process. Also the did not use a "set it and forget it" approach with their equipment. My health was getting worse & worse and the doctor suspected mold in our house. The problem was that we couldn't see any. After a moisture inspection, the reports showed elevated moisture in one room. Restoration 1 came out to look into it further. They listened to my concerns and took into great consideration my health problems (CIRS). They uncovered mold in three rooms and looked for the root of the problems. They also took great care in protecting the rest of our house from the spores while remediating. The workers were all great and they really went above and beyond in their work and communication with us. I felt like they took their work personally and a good job mattered to them. I've waited to write this review (3 months) because I've wanted to see what the final results would be from their remediation job. Did the mold come back? Did my health improve? I'm excited to say that the house is clean to live in. Everyone is feeling better! We are so thankful.
