This is such a pretty, scenic winery. The barn for wine tasting is unique and interesting. Grab a wine or wine slushee in the summer and sit outdoors and enjoy the scenery. Bonus, they have cats that live there, which is fun for the cat lovers. read more

Disappointed. This has been a favorite last stop of the day on our group's annual trip to Hermann. Stopped today and were told that it is now $5 to enter, which includes 8 tasting samples. Half of our group does not even drink wine, a couple don't drink at all. We were told everyone has to pay regardless of whether they are tasting or not. That would have been fine if we were all going to taste the wine, but we are here for the camaraderie. We have been making this trip for over 20 years, so this was very disappointing. So instead of buying our usual 8+ cases for our group of 13 we left. read more

Here's the thing with Adam Puchta: In terms of ambiance and great winery experience, it falls very very short. It is far off the beaten path of the other Hermann wineries, there aren't tours if that's your thing, and the bathrooms consist of a row of port-o-potties lined up around the parking lot. Your tastings are free, but come in little plastic shot glasses, and it's small with very little seating. But the wine, my lord this wine is amazing. I have never had an Adam Puchta wine disappoint. The whites, the reds, the desert wines, all of them are made the way a wine should be made. The Vignole is tangy but sweet, the Norton has that great Norton bite it should, and the Triamonte is as sweet as can be. However, I must give a quick shout out to the Jazz Berry. Served cold, you will be hard pressed to find any wine made in Missouri that will satisfy your desert wine craving any better. This can be poured over ice cream, served with a few pieces of dark chocolate, or just sipped along side some good cookies. If I ever need to make my boyfriend happy, I pick up some Merbs chocolate and a bottle of Jazzberry and I am in business. Adam Puchta wines are hard to find in St. Louis, but can usually be picked up at Friar Tucks and Randalls if you are so inclined. I highly suggest trying them. read more

David is a great wine host. He really knows his wines. I learned so much from him in 30 minutes. The things I really enjoyed about this place is you can have a wine fundamental 101, learn the history of the Puchta and you're not elbow to elbow to other winers. My favorite wine is their Norton, it's more bold, full-bodied and I fell instantly in love when I first poured it in a glass because first, it doesn't have the alcohol odor but the smell of different scents in one glass and second, it pairs well with lambchops. read more

Absolutely the best wine selection in Missouri. The full range in dry to sweet, the full range in light to full bodied, and all of them are perfectly balanced and perfectly delightful. The staff are knowledgeable and can offer wonderful food pairing suggestions for each and every wine on their wine list. I love a good Norton - and the estate bottled Norton at this winery is perfection. I have shipped bottles to those that only drink CA or NY reds... and Adam Puchta Norton has become a favorite among them, as well. The environment is casual and friendly. It's a country winery, so it has lots of outdoor seating. There are fire pits and covered seating areas. The 1855 Bistro has a nice selection and the food was great! read more

I'll grade them mostly on the wines, which were good, and extremely varied. It's $5 for a tasting, but they have a ton of wines. I stopped when they started veering into the sweet wines, but I felt like I got a good value for the tasting. They also have you taste various cheese straws and crackers with some of the wines, which was fine, but unnecessary. There was a nice picnic area where you could sit and enjoy your wine or some food if you brought it. There were also a number of cats running around, which lent a really friendly vibe to the place. It's a bit out of town, but worth the trip to try some good Missouri wines. read more

We came during Ocktoberfest. They have a nice little pizza cellar on sure that makes STL style pizza. The highlight for me was their wine slushies. The weather was warm enough to really enjoy these and they had a guy playing top 40 songs with a country twang. Not usually my thing but it worked for them. This is my favorite winery in Hermann. They seem to be the only one that still serves tastings in actual wine glasses. You get 8 tastings for $5, which is a great deal! I also love that they have many cracker pairings to go with the wines. They have a lot of sweet wines, which I really like. Jazzberry is my favorite! If you like cats, they have friendly strays that hang around the property. They also have a real nice gift shop with lots of cute handmade items. I was there for the third time this Saturday and although they were overstaffed, our group was treated wonderfully and we were not rushed. read more

Lovely tasting room staffed by friendly folks, check. Varied list of wines, check. Cute gift shop and speedy check out process, check. They charge $5 for the tastings now... that's a little hard to swallow when you're telling me that my only restroom options are the port-a-pottys outside. The wine list is a longer one and you can taste them all. There's a cookie or cracker paired with most of them. I guess if this is what your clientele are demanding, that's ok. Personally, I would rather you skip the cookie gimmick altogether and limit me to a few selections. Quality over quantity if you will. I'm not a fan of the extreme sweet end of the wine list but the dry to semi-dry wines are nice. read more

This was the most disappointing winery in Hermann for me. They charge $5 tastings, which isn't bad, but they serve them in plastic clear dixie cups and don't even let you try some of the better wines, like Norton. Correction, after this tasting, they did tell us that we could try another tasting in another room where we could try the Norton, but that tasting was an additional $5 a person (which we didn't do). They claimed they had "food pairings," which they kind of did, but the food was dried cheese straws and such. Maybe my taste buds are off, but they said that one wine tastes like a margarita if paired with a lime cookie (which they did) but I tasted bad white wine and artificial lime flavoring. They also claim they have a Chardonnay, but unless the wine maker at Stone Hill was mistaken, Chardonnay grapes can't grow in the Missouri climate (which is why you see Chardonnels). The tasting room and picnic area had a rustic feel to it which was pretty cool, except that the bathrooms were a line of Port-O-Potties. Love their wines. I have done the tasting a couple of times and every time I love it even more. You do the 8 samples and I seriously loved 5 out of the 8. Other wineries do not compare as far as the taste in the area. The only down side if it is a busy day, there is only a small little booth that you have to get your cold wine and beer from. The lines tend to be long so that is a drag instead of them just selling you a cold bottle right after your tasting. read more

My friends and I have been to Hermann twice in the last year. Both times we declared Adam Puchta to be our favorite wines. This winery is not the fanciest or most refined, but it does have a good, party atmosphere. It seems that people are always sitting out in the common areas enjoying themselves. The trollies run to the winery, making it quite accessible even though it is located just out of town in the country. The staff is friendly enough. I would recommend Adam Puchta to anyone interested in purchasing locally bottled wine. read more

Ambience: Sucks. Port o Potties for bathrooms and tastings out of plastic cups in a shed. Tasting Experience: Fun. I do enjoy that they do pairings with flavored "straws". A good sales tactic for them too. I often am tempted to get the wines I enjoyed as a pair and pick up the straws too. The Wine: I always have the feeling that the fun tasting and straw pairing make me think, in the moment, that the wine is better than it is. It's not bad, but there are better in the area. I know locals LOVE this place, and I still gave it 3 stars, but I think it is a little overrated by locals. I think non-locals give it a pretty fair shake. If someone opens a bottles and invites me for a drink, I'll happily partake, but if I were grabbing a bottles at the store, I'd probably grab another winery's. Puchta is an okay winery on the Hermann wine trail. The pours are free and they have decent live entertainment. Wines are typical for the area. The tasting room ambience is awful, but I think they are redecorating. Like most wineries, they also have a nice little gift shop. One nice touch here is they pair crackers with each of the wines. For some, especially the Vignoles, it's a pretty eye opening excercise and it adds fun to the experience. A worthwhile stop if your in Hermann for wine tasting. read more

This was one of my favorite stops on the trail as they gave us a Puchta-rita as our drink to enjoy with their smoked carnitas. A puchta-rita is their vignoles mixed with margarita mix and chilled and it surely hit the spot on that hot Missouri day. The seating area was under a tent, down a hill there and a bit confusing. Under the tent was hot, the fan wasn't doing any good, they could have used another one with amount of people coming and going. We were not offered any other tastings, nor told where to go if we wanted other tastings. The lady who did serve us though was extremely nice and got us what we needed at her area. There are cats roaming the area so just a heads up on that. Do check out the store, you can find lots of items you may want to take home. read more

Will I go back? Yes. This was the first of many wineries that we visited when recently in Hermann. There is a $5.00 fee for the tasting but I found this to be reasonable. We were able to taste 6 wines for this fee. We were served in a glass wine glass and provided appropriate food pairings to complement the wine flavors. Some have complained that the food pairings are snack type foods. While this is true the point is being missed. The idea is to get the flavor combinations not to feature a specific food. While there take a close look at the buildings. These are the original home and barns of the founder and still in use today. This makes for an interesting historical view and a good topic of conversation with the staff. read more

My wife and I on our 5th anniversary came to Hermann for a BnB and of course the wine tour. This place was our first stop on our Tour de Hermann and it was our favorite! The winery received my highest score of the day of 8/10!! We brought back a bottle of one of their dry reds, exclusive to the location. The location was quaint and scenic and he staff was knowledgable and had little "pairings" suggested with most wines, which was exclusive to this winery. Best wines I. I love Adam Puchta Winery! The wines are delicious, the tastings are free, and they pair crackers or cookies with most wines. They actually DO have bathrooms - but for some reason, every time I've been there in the last two years, the bathrooms have signs on them that say, "closed due to sewer line collapse." 2 years? (at least. That I know of.) Seems like they could have fixed the issue by now. So, yes, they have port a potties. This is the only reason I'm giving them 4 stars and not 5. They also do have cats. Everywhere. I think last time I was there I asked how many and was told "12" -- I'm guessing more though. Problem is; some of the cats look pretty sickly. This has now become my favorite winery in Hermann. We always make sure to stop by Adam Puchta first anytime we do a wine tasting in Hermann, MO so as to enjoy the great flavors that they have! Adam Puchta is the longest continuously family-operated winery in the country. Their more popular tasting is 8 wines for $5, which is incredibly reasonable as they give you decent pours. Depending on how busy it is, you either get to choose your wines or they choose them for you. They do food pairings (e.g., lime cookies, chocolate chips, etc.) with some of their tastings as well. You can purchase any of the cookies that go with their tastings in their shop. In addition to the traditional tasting, they have a legacy tasting where you get to sample their premium and special release wines including their estate Norton, sparkling wine, signature port, and mead. I would highly recommend doing this tasting as well. Each time we've done it, the person serving us was able to answer SO much about Adam Puchta's Winery, as well as winemaking in general. Definitely worth it. There are a few things that really set Adam Puchta apart. First, they have quite the variety of wines, ranging from dry to sweet. Second, they are one of the few places in Hermann that is still doing tastings in glassware, which I LOVE. Third, their service was excellent. It appeared that they were short-staffed when we arrived on Saturday, yet I never felt ignored nor did I ever have to wait for a tasting. Even with all of the craziness, our wine guide still managed to describe the flavors of each wine we tasted, as well as provided crackers along with our tastings. I was really impressed that he was able to service so many people so seamlessly! Fourth, they have a nice patio, some snacks to buy (e.g., sandwiches, pizza, cheese, cookies, etc.), and a fun gift shop. Finally, i think they truly do have the best tasting wines in all of Hermann. They have some really jammy/fruity wines, such as Jazzberry. I also thought their reserve Norton, mead, and high-end port were amazing. As a side note, they seem really concerned with the welfare of cats around Hermann, and even have several roaming the premises. Furthermore, they have two bottles that benefit breast cancer organizations. Not only do they make great wine, but I appreciate their philanthropy! In sum, a great place for wine tasting in Hermann. Not a bad spot. Must have been remodeled since some of the older more negative reviews about how primitive the place is were wrote. It has an updated little shop and tasting area inside. The wines weren't bad. The staff started off not being very friendly but had relaxed by the time we left. They do charge $5 for their tasting, but you get to try like10-12 wines or something like that, so it's not that bad. There's a little outdoor area with picnic tables where you can sit, but it was 110 degrees, so we passed on that. read more

I have spent a little time in tasting rooms over the last several years and I know my way around pretty well. Unfortunately, Adam Puchta Winery was not representing the Missouri wine scene as well as I expected. My husband and I visited Hermann MO for the first time this weekend and I was the most excited about this winery because I had heard the wines were "award-winning". Walking into the tasting room I was very underwhelmed by the bucolic appearance reminiscent of a small barn. We were greeted by very friendly people working at the bar in the tasting room. We tasted eight wines for $5 and compared to most wineries I have visited in California this is inexpensive. However, given the quality of the wines I tasted here it was not a good value. The wines, for me, were unappealing. Among the 8, I tasted a Vidal Blanc, a Situation Red, a "Save a Rack" Red and "Save a Rack" White (both representing Breast Cancer Research). I didn't feel compelled to buy a bottle of anything we tasted because the wines were just not drinkable. The girl working in the tasting room was very nice and friendly but not very knowledgeable. I think this winery is fine for people who haven't been to more sophisticated tasting rooms and tasted world class wines. For a local hangout to just sit outside and drink wines that are marginal I would imagine there is a segment of the population that enjoys this setting. I like the family history of this winery and wish them well with their winery but they need to make some tweaks to bring it up to the standards of what most consumers would expect from a winery and a tasting room experience. In the Hermann area there are several other wineries that do a better job of representing the history of Missouri wine and do a better job making good quality wine. read more

Screaming kids,, cover charge included tasting in a tent structure.. screaming adults in the tents, 11 am. They stamp your hand upon entry after charging 5$. The cover goes against the tasting, but not the Norton's. Kids racing around in John Deere carts, "help wanted" signs everywhere... absolutely horrible place. Tourist trap on a trolley stop. We left in our vehicle after the tasting... nice staff overall. Way too crowded. This was like attending a truck and Tractor pull. Reminds me of chandler hill in defiance Missouri, another rancid environment... it was like visiting Six Flags and Daytona Beach in a single experience. The wines aren't great.. it's the oldest winery in the area...but I'm skeptical of their story overall. In any case , the wine is horrible. If you like honeysuckle peach wine, I'd say go for it. We went to bias winery from here and while their wines are also abysmal, they have great beer and quiet. read more
