Despite the heat this weekend, we were craving Ethiopian food and decided to drop in in Addis Abeba for lunch. It's right off Hwy 75 and Beltline right across from the McDonalds after the light in the strip mall. It was easy enough to find and we strolled right in. It is self seating and we picked out a table chairs off to the right side when we entered. It's a decent size space with a fair for live music and plenty of seating; half of it on regular height and the other half bar height seating. There was one young lady serving and there were only 3 other families there. She was attentive and served us with a smile. We ordered taste of Ethiopia, which a mixed dish with Doro wot(chicken stew with boiled egg) kitfo(very slightly fired almost tartare beef) beef tibs(stew; all served in a bed of Injera(their traditional spongy oversized tortilla) made from teff. It has a slightly fermented taste for those who have never tried it before. The plate also had collards, lentils(shiro) and Ayib(homemade fresh cheese). This is right up there with Shebelle for the best Ethiopian food in DFW. Now I haven't tried all the restaurants but have eaten at enough to know what is next level. The explosion of flavors; the subtle heat from the jalapeños and chilli powder/paprika. The rich taste of the Ethiopian ghee it's cooked in. The best part is the injera that has soaked up all the sauces as the last fitting bites. The only downside is wouldn't stop eating, it was so so good and I got my share. I was full for the rest of the day and didn't eat until about 20 hours after that meal. Go try this place....the food is so worth it! read more

I came here for a late Sunday lunch with a friend who was visiting town. I have only tried one other Ethiopian restaurant in the DFW metroplex and this one did NOT disappoint. The waitress was kind and very helpful. She explained the dishes and even hand-served the buffet to me. The inside had tvs to watch the euro cup and the mint chairs were comfy. I enjoyed the buffet and the vegetable combo was delightful. The only thing that wasn't for me was the tea. It tasted like a fireball shot without the alcohol. If you like sweet things, then I would recommend. Overall nice experience and I will be bringing friends and family again for sure! read more

It can be on a sunday afternoon for lunch and it was very quiet but very nice. My cousin ordered for my aunt and I like all 3 of us were. Having the same meal, we got the taste of ethiopia, which had three meat options and four different vegetable options. All of it was delicious except the Shiro, which was bland. I want to commend them for excellent customer service. An older homeless woman stumbled into the restaurant and our server gave her a cup of tea and just let her sit in the back corner of the restaurant as she rested. We weren't bothered by it. She wasn't bothering anyone, but it was just the fact of their kindness cause it was a cold day. read more

The awaze tibs and injera were very good. I would've liked the injera to be a little hotter, but this is why I normally don't do take out - Not the same as the restaurant experience. The cabbage was pretty good, but a bit oily and didn't contain many carrots in it. I've definitely had better. Although I liked this spot I would be more inclined to try other spots within the area. $17.00 for lamb tibs and very small portion of cabbage, I think I could do better. The menu on their website - which is the menu they will give you to order from - is their "takeout" menu NOT their normal menu. When we went to pay the bill, they claimed that the online menu, which is priced lower, is not the same as their in-restaurant menu. They never showed a separate in-restaurant menu with updated prices, and as noted earlier, they specifically give you the QR code to their online menu which has their "takeout prices" when you order. We were in the mood to try something different so we headed to Addis Abeba with a rather large group of friends (party of 30), and had a wonderful time. Although I've had Ethiopian a couple of times before, this was my first time trying this restaurant. I can't say I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this type of food but I can say that it was very good and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We shared something called "The Taste of Ethiopia" which was a sampling of different types of vegetables, beans, and meat. The bread that you use to scoop up your food is the best part of the dining experience although don't worry, they do provide forks if you prefer not to eat with your hands. I also tried some of their "honey wine" which is very sweet (think of desert wine), but it's commonly offered on Ethiopian menus. If you're not adverse to really sweet wine, be sure to try a glass. Service was good although there could be a bit of a language barrier depending on who's waiting on your table. The only downside the to entire experience is that once our group was ready to leave and pay our tabs, we asked multiple times (to three different people, including the owner), to bring our bill so we could settle up. Each time they nodded and said OK but never came back to the table. They all just congregated around the bar area. Everyone, (all 30 of us), all had to make our way up to the cash register at the bar to settle our tabs. It would've been way easier and saved everyone a lot of time had they just told us that rather than us sitting around for 30 minutes expectantly waiting for our bill to arrive at the table. Overall the food and experience was good and the owner was so humble and appreciative for our business (especially after struggling to survive during the shutdown). Oh Holy Food Heaven!!! Hubby's plate was cabbage, chickpeas, chicken tibs and beef tibs. My Jr High kids had lamb in a spiced butter sauce with collard greens. I had a spicy beef and chickpea dish with cabbage. The food is served without utensils. Instead, the spongey, sourdough bread serves as both plate and fork. This was our first experience with Ethiopian cuisine. The depth of flavor was so impressive. The outside looks iffy. Inside is simple, but super friendly and quiet. We were the only non Ethiopian diners. The service was patient and excellently attentive. Pricing was VERY affordable (less than $60 for all four entrees). It was all delicious. Gosh, I think I have been coming to this restaurant for close to ten years now! I dream about the food. I've since moved away but any time I find myself back in the area, I always make a stop. This is a family owned restaurant and you can sense that as soon as you walk through the door. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. The food is incredible!! I always order the Taste of Ethiopia with either beef or lamb. Its a little bit of everything on one platter and can be made in larger portions if you are dining with people or alone. We usually just get the Half and Half with Yebeg Wot and Yebeg Alitcha, which means we end up with random veggie sides. It also means we can't really advise on the other meats. Sure, we should probably the chicken, and it would be healthier for us, but...lamb. Mmm, lamb. Of their veggie sides, we love their Gomen, Tekil Gomen, and Fosolia. Great customer service. I typically order misir wot several nights a week from my regular spot but they closed early so I tried this one. That was a painful mistake. My order of Misir Wot was extremely bland and almost a slight sweet undertone that was unlike any I've had! The consistency was also very off; soupy. They stored the to-go order in aluminum tins which was a mess because their consistency was not dense enough to keep lentil from spilling out of the container! I don't know what it is about Ethiopian food - it's just so comforting and delicious, it's like a warm hug. This is a small place in a shopping center at 75/Belt Line in Richardson. It's not fancy but the food is great! Their menu says they are vegan friendly and our waitress (who was very inviting) confirmed that all of their veggie dishes are vegan. We had the veggie combo for 2 which comes with a serving of all veggie dishes which is 8 or 9 (for under $20!!). You get unlimited injera as well. We came here to grab dinner the other day and it was incredible! I have to say this is definitely one of the best Ethiopian restaurants here. The interior is large and the wait wasn't long for the food. The service is extremely friendly! Our waitress did an amazing job recommending dishes to us that were just spicy enough. I have to recommend the doro wot! It was by far the best. It's served on a large plate with injera (a fermented Ethiopian bread). There's quite a few well-known foodie spots in this plaza, but this restaurant is tucked away in it's own little corner. My husband and I never had Ethiopian food before, so we were curious to try it. We ordered the Taste of Ethiopia platter as well as the doro wat (stewed chicken) entree. The Taste of Ethiopia platter was huge. We were told it was meant to feed one person, but I think it can easily feed two. It included grilled lamb with onions and jalapenos, stewed lamb in a green sauce, doro wat, and three veggie items which unfortunately I don't know the name, but can describe as an orange sauce, leafy green, and cottage cheese. With the meal, we were given a good amount of injera, which is like a spongy flatbread that you use as a utensil to pick up and eat the food with. It was a fun and delicious experience. We enjoyed combining different items together. My husband's favorite was the lamb, while my favorite was the doro wat. I wasn't aware that doro wat was already included in the platter, so with the extra entree we had a lot of that! The service was excellent and friendly. This place is a blessing and a curse. After going here, whenever I eat yesmir wet or shiro wet anywhere else, it seems bland and boring. Any other fasolia I eat seems saccharine. Even my old favorite Ethiopian spot back home in Harlem seems like it's missing something now. Of course, when I do come here it's great. A simplistic-looking restaurant with a bar and tv on the wall, situated right off of Central Expressway. Not exactly a place for a special night out, but for any other nights. But when it comes to food, they're really large portions. I had the Taste of Ethiopia, which is a generous sampler of lamb or beef TIBS (cubed meat) with DORO WOT (chicken leg in berbere or red pepper sauce, spiced butter and honey wine, and seasoned with garlic, cinnamon and cardamom), YEBEG ALITCHA (pieces of injera mixed with lamb, slow cooked with mild sauce and spiced butter, SHIRO (roasted and powdered chickpeas simmered in unique, hot and spicy berbere sauce) and GOMEN (spinach cooked with onions, garlic and cardamom). And this is according to the menu. But when I received my plate, it looked like there were so much more. I even believe that my plate came with KIFTO (seasoned lean ground beef, seasoned with kibbeh or spiced butter, cardamom and mitmita or hot pepper). It was a great "walk" around Ethiopia, and I have not had one complaint about anything, not even its spice level, which was perfectly modified to be mild tasting for me. I was warned that the only thing they could not modify was the doro wot, but I found the doro wot to be just perfect and balances itself nicely with the rest of the plate. The only thing I have to mention a heads up is that the lady taking orders the day I came for lunch had a thick accent and spoke haltingly English. She was a great and friendly server, and I enjoyed her service, but just be sure to give time to double check any request for accommodations. SHE: "How do you want this cooked?" ME: "How is this prepared traditionally?" (Hoping it's raw since it's traditional in Ethiopia to eat raw kifto, which is similar to raw kibbeh in Lebanon) SHE: "Little or no cook. No fire." I was a bit too eager. But really, it was a lot of food, and only later did I find out that the Taste of Ethiopia sampler normally does not include kifto was it was not mentioned in the menu. Was it a faux pas, I do not know. But whatever I ate was one of the most enjoyable Ethiopian meal I've had in a long time and I'm already thinking of going back (a first, for me). Finding this place was a treasure hunt in itself. It is kind of stuck in an odd corner of a plaza not facing the road . If you are behind mc Donalds you are close by. Two nice ladies greeted me right away and had me pick a seat. After ordering a beer I asked for the veggie sampler meal and asked the waitress to pick the 5 dishes that I should try. We had two servers, one who was decent and the other was just not good. My brother ordered something he did not like because it was supposed to have the beef tibs in it but there was hardly any. He'd eaten from our platter and was full, we had a full weekend planned so if we took anything to go it would be wasted. The prices are very reasonable, and average of like $13 per plate. The food was out in a reasonable time given that it's a restaurant and not a fast food joint. The food was tasty. We weren't sure what to expect and some had reservations about the food but once we ate, we all agreed that the food was good. I enjoyed the atmosphere. It is a family setting, pleasant interior decor, and conducive for a date or just have a relaxed evening. The restroom was clean and stocked. This was me and my husband first time ever eating Ethiopian food and we are in LOVE! The restaurant was really nice and clean my only disappointment was their enormous big screen tvs both playing sports and one had the volume turned way up. It had potential to be very classy, but the tvs made it have a run of the mill sports bar feel. I've been to several Ethiopian restaurants, and this one is decent but not great. The sauces were extremely bland, to the point that I wonder if they went to the extreme and didn't spice the sauces at all when I asked about mild sauces and mentioned that I'm not a big fan of spicy food. That is true, but I do like SPICED food and can tolerate SOME heat. In general, I tend to be a fan of food that has flavor. Overall, not as good as Zeni's in San Jose, CA (the best I've had to date) or Queen of Sheba in Addison. Also, super sketchy location -- we got accosted by a panhandler right outside the front door. I thought I would hate injera because I'm not a huge fan of sour, but it was surprisingly not overpowering. I like injera, but don't love it as I did get tired of eating it halfway through the meal and it was filling. I dragged my coworkers with me and they asked for forks so this restaurant does offer silverware. I wanted the most traditional experience possible so I forgoed the fork and scooped with the injera and ate with my right hand only. I ordered the Taste of Ethiopia dish with lamb for 1 so that I could get a good variety. The lamb tibs were yummy but a bit chewier/tougher than I like my lamb. The standouts of the dish was the doro wat with chicken and the greens and cabbage. I ordered the cinnamon tea to follow up the meal. I want to try other Ethiopian restaurants in the area now, but have no problem suggesting Addis Ababa to others at all. I'd go back here myself if the craving strikes. read more

It is a small place, but the food is really good and has a homemade quality to it. My go to dishes are the: veggie platter, Doro wot, and the Kitfo. I can literally make a meal out of the kitfo, it is very delicious. If you order it be sure to let them know if you would like it rare (it's traditionally served this way), medium or well done. I went to grab lunch on a Sunday afternoon and I was Highly Disappointed (I grew up with Ethiopians and have been eating the food for years). FOOD: Guys, I had MOLD on my injera..yes a spot of mold. The edges of the injera were all dried up and hard as if it had just been sitting around for days. The injera was puffy and heavy, probably made with a cheaper flour instead of Teff (gluten free). I got the 8 vegetable combo and the meat combo. - For the veggies I got the gomen (collard greens), cabbage with carrots (best veggie dish),and lentil and chickpeas sauces. The lentils tasted odd, not sure how to describe the flavor and the chickpeas were okay. - For the meat dish we got doro tibs (cubed chicken with jalepenos and onion) which were the best part of our meal, great flavor, a little dry though. We also got awaze tibs which tasted like tomato, not spicy at all even though it's supposed to be. There was still a lot of it left when everyone finished eating which tells you something lol. ATMOSPHERE: Decent, not very nice but pretty clean, watered down hand soap in bathroom. SERVICE: Nice, friendly waitress, seat yourself when it's not busy.
