Paid $200 for a four top table to see Theo Von. They then make each person order two items minimum at the table. Everyone is packed in like sardines. There is no room to move at all. I was staring at the back of the stranger next to me head the entire time. I thought by buying a table I would have a table for my party. Each four top table is right up against another four top creating an 8 top of you and four strangers. The strangers on the four top next to me were drunk, loud, and had table talk the entire time. This coupled with the fact I was staring at the back of one of their heads the entire time made it to where I could not enjoy the show I paid $200 for AT ALL. Horrible experience. read more

We went and it was stupid hot inside and the show was starting like 45mins late due to the previous show running long. Addison Improv, July 8th, 7:00 show, table of 8 My friends and I had the most insulting, and frankly un funny experience ever at your establishment. We all decided to do something fun and different for one of our friends birthday. There were 8 of us, so we're talking about $320. Not a cheap outing. When we arrived we were escorted to our "reserved" table that was in the back of the club as far away as possible. I assume that was most likely due to the fact the we appeared to your door person as a group of WHITE, AMERICAN, CHRISTIANS... and must've know that the comics (and I use that term loosely) were offensive to this sector of society. We made it about 20 minutes or so and the opening act did most of his show in arabic, insulted the American way of life (the weekend after we celebrated or way of life) put down american people referring to us as livestock. Compared Islam to America, and credited Vladmir Putin for our electoral system. I understand that comedy is subjective, but this wasn't comedy. This man not funny. This was a soapbox rant. Then the Emcee, I assume a local guy got on and tried to make jokes (again, not a funny person) handicapped, and down syndrome people. It was this point we decided this was not acceptable for the money we paid and we were not comfortable in a room full of clearly Muslim sympathizers. We actually felt very uncomfortable. We asked to speak to the manager. A very young man identified himself as the manager. After we stated our case, instead of doing the right thing and refunding our money (especially since you had no disclaimers posted) He offered us free passes to a future show as long as that show wasn't sold out. So we got passes to a shit show that no one else wants to see either. I used to be a customer and have seen many many great shows at your venue, but not after this. read more

There are some decently big names that come through this place. We came here on a Saturday night for a paid, reserved seating show. We were at a table that was pretty much right when you walked in. They were great seats center and near the restrooms. There is a section that swings out to the right if you are facing the stage as well. Our server was quick to get our drink order and offer us the food menu. The menu was your typical bar food and nothing too special. The service was great all night and did not have an effect on the viewing whatsoever. It was seamless! Things were reasonably priced for a comedy club and the show was hilarious. We were the middle show of 3 during the night so ours was behind schedule, thereby, making the last show of the night late as well. read more

Tickets: We frequent the Arlington Improv but happened to be in Addison for a family event and Gary Owens was in town. My husband purchased our tickets online for the 9:30pm show...Cost = $50 each plus the $10 convenience fee. As stated, we frequent the Arlington Improv so we have grown accustomed to these "processing fees" that the improvs charge but we were surprised at the cost of the Owens tickets. We've seen Earthquake and Tommy Davidson for less $$ but we enjoy laughing and date nights so the extra $20/$30 was not a huge deal. Parking: I was so anxious about finding parking because we arrived late (and we don't do valet) and it was misting/raining but I saw an opening next to one of the restaurants and "flew" in before the other late arrivals saw the great parking space! I suggest arriving early or pay for valet to find a good park...otherwise you'll be footing it for a couple blocks. Uber drop off would have been smart too. Check In: We arrive later than we'd like due to a previous engagement we had but rounded the corner to the improv at 9:05-9:10pm. If you've never been to this area it is part of the entertainment district of Addison so it is packed with restaurants, diners, and dives. The improv is propped on the corner and you can easily miss it if you're not paying attention. It was misting outside but not pouring down and my hair was braided so I was good with waiting in the ridiculously long line. Mind you, we usually go to the Arlington 7:30 shows and there is never a line so when we walked up and the line was AROUND the corner we were like damn! BUT...the Addison staff have clearly done this before...they had staff walking down the line checking people in. Seating: We waited about 5 minutes and the line began to move quickly up the stairs. (the stairs are a completely different conversation). We check in and are seated quickly. The space is tight, as usual, but I don't know what people expect from a comedy club...the trick is to pack as many people into the smallest real estate possible to maximize profit. We had good seats, close to the stage at the end of a table filled with people we did not know, but this does not bother me. You can choose to strike up conversation with them or not. If you can...try to get the front end or back end of a table so that it is easier to get in and out if you need to use the restroom. Drinks/Food: Our server was fantastic! We ordered within minutes of being seated and the drinks were brought out just as fast. We go ahead and put in our 2 drink minimum order as to not have to wait to be served when the show begins...and the bartenders are heavy handed with the drinks and I like that lol! Ordered crown on ice and Dos Equis. Be conscious of the automatic 18% gratuity. We rarely eat at the improv...if we do, we get french fries or mozzarella sticks, as it is hard to mess up on these tasty fried items. I suggest eating before or after the show. Why would you order calamari aka squid at a comedy club and what did you expect it to taste like? I just think the food expectations from some of the yelp reviewers are a little ridiculous...and maybe the improv should rethink certain menu items...idk... I would not go to a comedy show/bar expecting a five star food menu. The Show: The 2 opening acts and Gary were great! We laughed laughed! Best part no old jokes! There was a lady in the crowd that had a little too much to drink and was commenting loudly through the first act but that comedian set her straight will quick!!! Addison Improv hosts some of the best talent out there. We had an absolute blast on a Saturday night (we saw the first show of the night). Pros: The host, opening act, and comedians all know how to work the crowd and give you the best show. Most people were courteous and weren't distractions from the main event (though some were, which I get into later). The drinks were well-made and the staff was super friendly and provided excellent, quick service. Parking wasn't bad at all. Then again, we showed up 2 hours before doors opened to get some food next door so we didn't have to deal with valet. Purchasing tickets online was a breeze and picking them up at will call was even simpler. The bathrooms were clean but beware. In the lady's room, the water was literally coming from the pipes of hell; boiling fucking hot! That's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Cons: I wish the staff was more on top of hecklers. There weren't shit talkers in the crowd, but there were definitely some drunk people who didn't know when to shut up; to a point where the comedian had to say stfu at a person who insisted in shouting over him while he was telling a joke. It ruined the experience for everyone else so I wish the staff handled constant "problem-people." Price. Paying for tickets AND having a 2 item minimum per person can end up being an expensive night out. I get it; that's probably how they make their money, but good god $4 for the cheapest bottle of water?! Drinks average $12, not to mention the 18% gratuity tacked on to your bill and still expecting you to tip on top of that. That's not right. On the plus side, the drinks were made strongly and even though my order was incorrect, the drink the server brought out was still very delicious. The seating situation is no joke. You're crammed in there touching knees with the person sitting across the table from you, touching elbows with the people next to you, and touching heads with the person behind you. It was uncomfortable to say the least. I'm unsure how they pick where you sit, but it would've been nice to sit closer to the stage since we got there when doors opened and an entire row of non-reserved tables was available, but filled nearly an hour after we arrived. inside is very overcrowded and outdated. most tables are set up poorly so you're lucky if you get a good, unobstructed view. my neck is still sore from trying to see the stage around the three heads in my way. parking is limited because of the large, almost empty valet area taking up most of the closest lot. service was ok and our waiter was nice. food/drinks aren't cheap and they add on a gratuity fee of like 18%. i think the comedian (Steve Byrnes) was a last minute add so he was just reading bad jokes from cards, and ALL his jokes were about current events in the news. not everyone keeps up with current events, especially here in Texas, so a lot of jokes went over their heads and fell flat. we ended up leaving before he finished, right after we paid our check. overall it was a total waste of money. read more

I visited the improv last weekend to see one of my favorite comics, Sebastian Maniscalco who was hilarious! But I'm not here to rate the comic, but rather the venue. Can we say that this is the biggest scam known to man all these comedy clubs ? First to buy the ticket online, there is some B.S. "Online Handling fee" of $5.00 on top of the ticket price. The website didn't work so I called in and was still charged "$5.00" handling fee and I wasn't even emailed a receipt! What business does that? Can't my handling fee come with at least a receipt of purchase? Anyway, the thieving continued the day of the show. I showed up 2 hours early to get a good seat my waiter came to my table at least 5 times to ask me what I wanted. I told him I wanted to wait until closer till the show started. This was because they have a two item minimum policy otherwise, the will charge $8.00 for their high-quality air . When the show did start, I decided to get a beverage and some overpriced southwest egg rolls. When I asked for a glass of water to wash down my dry egg rolls and weak drink, I was told that they don't offer tap water, I could buy a bottle water (with Kroger wrapping intact) for $4.00 dollars. That is like what, a 500% mark up?! The final straw came when I received the bill in addition to the 18% I was already charged for my self, they had the nerve to include another line for "extra-tip"...bish where!?! Maybe if my pallete wasn't so parched, I would have been inclined to add some more gratuity, but I was not. Anyways, next time my favorite comic comes into town, it best to just skip the charade, and just show up at the end around 10:30p 11:00p to buy their DVD at least you can get a pic with them without being charged and added 18% and ghost handling fee. read more

Went here on a Friday night to see Tony Rock and had a fantastic time! We were seated at a table with random people which initially I was unsure of but once the show started it didn't matter. The waiters were very good about checking in on the table and seeing if we needed anything throughout the show. Acts are great! They bring a lot of funny comedians out here. Parking is easy to find in front of the building and free if you get there early. I believe there is valet on the side (not facing Beltline Road). I dislike the $10 up charge for VIP seats. Not really considered VIP just positioned closer to the front. Some may oppose to this because of the fear of getting called out by the comedian but it does provide a better, unobscured view. My only complaint is that they require purchase of food and/or drink items. I believe this is standard at a majority of the comedy clubs but still a hassle especially because the drinks taste more like a pre-made machine drink (think like 7-Eleven slurpee machines) and the food is small servings and lackluster. never again... purchased tickets to a show. picked the exact table that i wanted & bought all four seats at that table. when we arrived at the addison improv, instead of ushering us to the seats we had selected & reserved, the ushers led us to a different table in a different section. the management changed their seating policy without notifying us (anyone) of the change. no longer was it reserved seating, it is now general admission. and they fill in the table & seats starting in the front and working their way towards the back. total @#$%^&* completely pissed. we were left sitting at a long table for eight, in the middle of a half dozen knuckleheads, instead of having the reserved 4-seat table we selected asked for the manager. all he could say was "this is our new seating policy" when i voiced my displeasure he replied, "there is nothing we can do. the show is about to start" worthless f'ing jackass if you are going to implement a change from reserved to ga, make the change before selling the tickets for reserved. read more

Just saw Michael Blackson at the Addison Improv. First let me say that this guy is hilarious! Even the warm up guy was good. Worth the ticket price. The issues I have are more with all the additional costs for subpar food and beverages. We ordered a total of 3 mixed drinks and 3 beers. For food we ordered chips and queso and hot wings. The wings were drenched in sauce and I'm pretty sure the were fresh out of the microwave. The cheese in the queso had a velveeta taste with very little spice. 2 beers, 1 mixed drink and the chips were $34 which included an 18% service charge. I'm hoping that was the tip because if not too bad. What a rip! Of course you're forced to order two items per person minimum. By the time you add all their fees and service charges it's a rather pricy evening. I have no problem paying for quality but having to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke to get in the door and sit at a cramped table in a place that's had one too many style beers spilled on the carpet was a little too much for my taste. If you're going to charge you need to bring it with quality food, drinks and atmosphere which this place lacks all three. read more

Went to a comedy show last night. First off, parking. Literally most of the parking spots are taken for valet only so be prepare to pay $5 unless you want to spend 30+ minutes finding a parking spot. The comedy show space. Tables and seat were crazy jammed packed so you're literally smelling the other person next to you and behind you. Wait staff. We got a really nice server and very attentive hence the 2 stars instead of one. He took our orders really fast and food came out at a reasonable time. Food. Overpriced but expected. Minimum 2 items per person. Oh and water is not free. You pay $4 for a bottle water they bought for $0.50. the food itself was okay. Nothing special that warrants the upcharge and the 18% gratuity charge. Overall, comedian was great but venue not so much. read more

So incredibly disappointed in this place! We have been here several times over the years but tonight was absolutely horrible. We saw Terry Fator at 7pm. First they now make you purchase tickets by table and through a separate company. We had a party of 5 but was forced to pay for 6 EVEN THOUGH there were several tables with 7-8 people ! I even emailed the GM and he said that they couldn't accommodate that and that was how they were doing things now- i guess only for special tables. The ticket company charged over $30 for our "transaction ." They also sat several tables after the acts started, one table directly in front of us that reeked of pot and were obnoxious the entire time. They were obviously very intoxicated and they arrived after us and after the show started. The GM needs to take in consideration that we were there to see a ventriloquist- where it is important to see the puppets and performers face. We could not see either from the table in the very back. We missed several jokes because of it. The green tea shots were okay but the cherry limeade drink and Moscow mule were disgusting- they were just simple syrup and ginger beer or flavored syrup. I asked for a water and was given a $4 water bottle instead, no mention or anything. This place has gone severally downhill- the stairs and bathroom are disgusting! It looks like they haven't been cleaned in years. Maybe they should take the "club charge" on each ticket and pay for some janitorial. read more

They offer food and drinks, but keep in mind, if you get a comp ticket, your minimum purchase of beverages is 2! I absolutely love this place!!!! My boyfriend and I had our second date here, our first kiss, and then last night, I became engaged here!! The staff, from the ticket booth to the wait staff, have always been super nice and very accommodating. Drinks and food are good. And the caliber of comics is always great!! We have not only seen great headliners, but some of the openers, in my opinion, have been just as good and on some occasions, even better. Many times we have left the club with our cheeks and stomach muscles hurting so much because we were laughing so hard. Last night was of course very special to me, but I have to tip my hat to the comic Mark Curry; he was just amazing!!! Not only was he hilarious but he was a willing participant, even contacted my fiance, to see how he could help pull the the whole night off. We will definitely be back and I hope that those of you reading this review will decide to go too. I've been to the Improv many times over the past year. I've seen Gabriel Iglesias, Carlos Mencia, Charlie Murphy, Felipe Esparza, DL Hughley, Sommore, Ralphie May and I'll be going back next week to see Arnez J. I've never been disappointed by a show! I tend to get tickets for either the Thurs show or the 2nd show on Fri or Sat. The reason being, if you are on the last show of the night (Thursdays usually only have one show that night), the comedians are not restricted by time. If you go to the first show, they do their set, SOME comedians will stay and take pics, and then they all usher you out quickly because they have to get ready for the next show. If you go to the last show, there are no time constraints. Mencia, Iglesias and May all stayed for WAY past their time, just hanging out and telling more jokes on stage. I think Ralphie May's show was 2.5 hours total. Similar to Mencia and Iglesias. Gabriel Iglesias is by far my FAVORITE comedian. He's humble and FUNNY! He stayed afterwards and took pics and signed anything that anyone wanted him to sign. He didn't charge a fee either! Mencia and Sommore charged a fee to get a pic with them but at least Sommore also gave you a tshirt for the same price. Charlie Murphy and DL Hughley couldn't be bothered to take pics with anyone afterwards. Kinda sucked but overall, I always have a great time at the Improv. Yes the seats are small and it can seem crowded but I would much rather be in that environment and you are up close and personal with the comedians in a more intimate show setting, than seeing someone like Katt Williams at the Verizon theatre where you can't even make him out and you have to watch him on the TV screen (and the tickets were more than double what I would pay to go to the Improv PLUS there's the opportunity usually to take pics with the comedians afterwards!) Yes there's a 2 item minimum but keep in mind, the comedians get the money from the ticket sales. The improve gets the $5 "service" fee that's added to the price of the ticket and so they have to make up their money someplace else. Usually the service isn't bad, and it all depends on the comedian, whether the 18-20% gratuity is auto added to your bill. Watch for the signs on the doors when you enter, to ensure youre not tipping 40% (unless you really want to of course). I do wish I would get the 2 free tickets they always advertise. I never get those at all but I was kind of annoyed to get an email from the Improv AFTER I bought my Felipe Esparza ticket, that they had a 2 for 1 special but oh well, the ticket was only $30 which is doable. Came here to see Aries Spears. It was a great comedy show however, I found the food service subpar. My waiter seemed to get confused with all the orders he had to handle and kind of mixed it all up. The food also took very long to arrive after I placed my order. I had the raspberry Long Island ice tea which was okay. However, the Irish nachos which I ordered were plain old NASTY and definitely not worth the money. I had a couple of bites and couldn't eat any more. I can't speak of anything else on the menu but PLEASE avoid the Irish nachos. read more

Came here to see the headliner, Ryan Hamilton, but the openers (Linda and Barry Whitewater) were worth the cost of admission on their own. Read some pretty negative reviews about the place but didn't see any validity in the criticism. For a night out, the prices for drinks seemed spot on but maybe a little on the heavy side. I had a martini and an Old Fashioned and both were great. Yvonne and her trainee took excellent care of us as they were unobtrusive while keeping us resupplied with drinks throughout the set. I am giving this 3 stars because the seating was unbelievable. Packed in closer than sardines. The tables and chairs were smaller than the table and chairs I bought my daughter when she was 5. For a state that is known- and is proud- to state "everything is bigger in Texas" ( except for the parking spaces", they need to take this into consideration. I'm 5'6 and 145 lbs. and I was packed in closer than a banana still in its peel. The comedians were great! The cost of the drinks( 2 drink min.) was a bit much. I drank water and my bill for the two waters and tip was 23.00. Btw, what is the 18% gratuity for if we are expected to tip on top of that? I will be going back again- but will pay the additional $ 5 for a better table ( and I was in the second row!). First time at a comedy club, did not know any better. I attended an event here with a friend and was very shocked that I hadn't been to this venue before. This small room was decorated for Valentine's Day while a comedian kept you entertained for the holiday. The service was quick and very helpful, but...I hate to do this...but the food and drinks were blah. Nothing fancy and nothing special. I would totally come here and see a show again, but not really to eat and drink. :( read more

I hadn't been to the Addison Improv in over a decade and I couldn't think of why until I got there and remembered why. Tickets: We bought tickets after receiving a 2 for $10 offer on a Thursday evening show. With processing fee, they ended up being $20. What exactly is being processed that requires a $10 fee?? Seating: Completely by luck. My sister got there 90 minutes before the show so we'd have decent seats (we are short). Others still got the stage seats (totally fine, I didn't want to be roped into the show). The tables are small and yes, you will have to sit with others if you don't fill up the table. The chairs are very uncomfortable. At times, I couldn't pay attention to the comedian because I was shifting so much Service fee: There is a two item minimum and an 18% service fee no matter what Food: Ugh. Just ugh. If you order water, make sure you note which one because there is a $4 bottle and an $8 bottle and you know if you just say yes to bottled water, you are going to get the $8 one. Food isn't great. My sister ordered the grilled chicken tenders (appetizer) and it was 4 chicken breast cutlets. It wasn't that bad and definitely big enough to chair. I got the veggie burger and wanted it without the bun and with cheese. Got the bun and my veggie patty was so thin that I couldn't even see it in the bun. When the waitress came by I asked for pesto and pointed out that I asked for no bun, she didn't apologize or offer to correct it, just said "uh huh ok" and moved on. The sweet potatoes were good at least. The comedians all made comments in the lack of size in the crowd; there was maybe 50 of us. Most of the guest sitting with us were there because they received free tickets from attending defense driving at the Improv. I'm reading some of the reviews for this place and I am completely baffled. This is by far the best date night activity in Dallas! Comedians- I've been here 6 times and have only experienced 1 comedian that didn't make me laugh to the point of tears (DL Hughley...terrible) But he had 3 headliners that were hilarious so my overall experience was still excellent Drinks- 2 drink minimum. Yeah this part kind of sucks but if you order bottled water as a drink it should be no more than $8 per person. I want to complain but I've never been to any comedy club that didn't have this rule. 3. Audience- I've met some of the coolest people here. I feel like it's a great place for couples to make friends. I've met quite a few friends from sitting across the table at this club. All types of people from every age and race come out to each show I've been to. It's great to come together and laugh. Overall it's a great place for a date night or girls night. If you are uptight or easily offended this might not be the place for you. They have magic shows during the week ;) We always come to have fun and I've never seen this place disappoint. Good comedians come through here. I have never been to a bad show. Sometimes they have 2 opening comedians before the big name other time they have one. Fridays and Saturdays always get sold out. I buy my tickets days before. The service is somewhat slow. This past Saturday the show ended and it took 15-30minutes to get our bank cards back. The time before that the waitress never showed to give us our check. And always the drinks take sometime to be served. They could do better on service but I'm thankful for what they are doing now. Hopefully they improve. The sitting arrangement is weird. Half of the club watches the comedian from the side. I don't know why they have the stage where it is. Tip. If you are having a party and buying tickets separately notify them in advance so they can serve some sits for you that are close together. read more

Addison Improv - Best comedians. - Comedy Clubs Near Me - Dallas, Texas

I've only been to one other comedy club and the Addison Improv reminded why I don't go to trashy places like this. The food was atrocious and the service was worse than the food. The boys that were posing as security were unprofessional, the servers were slow and inaccurate. Our food was delivered 45 minutes after we ordered it (and we were there early before the crowd), and after they delivered the food, it took them another 30 minutes to bring us silverware and by that time the food was cold. At the end of the show the staff announced that the comedian was willing to take pictures at the front, so we went straight to the front ahead of the crowd. We asked where to wait to get pictures and the security guy (teenage boy) instructed us to wait out by the Improv sign in the hallway. While we waited out in the hallway by the picture area, a line formed at the door just inside (3 feet away from the hallway). Then the security told us to go to the back of the line. Unprofessional and trashy. Again, I'm reminded why I stay away from low class places. I'd rather pay more for a better venue with a better crowd. Garbage experience and I'll never go back and it's my goal to spread the word of how trashy this place is. Hopefully this place goes out of business. read more

My awesome parents gave me a gift certificate to the Addison Improv for my b-day, so I treated my awesome friends to a show on Friday night. This was my second trip to this venue; for comparison, I've also been to the Dallas Hyena several times. Other Yelpers complain that the Improv packs you in tightly, that the ticket and food prices are high, and that they add in the 18% gratuity AND ask you to also tip the servers. All this is true...but common for comedy clubs. It's not a cheap show. We shared a couple appetizers and both were good, much better than anticipated (way better than the Hyena). Our server Michelle was funny and friendly. The comics were great. The room was fine. read more

$100/table (2 persons) is the new rate. Be careful ordering drinks. Always ask how much $$ They way overcharged us $25/drink (gin and tonic). Ouch! I spoke with the manager Billy and he would not make it right. I felt scammed, and we will never go back to the Addison Improv. Hopefully Hyenas will reopen and we will go back there. read more

Small, intimate venue that serves food alongside a comedy show. The comedy show you get obviously will vary depending on who is performing, so pick a night with a performer you have researched or are already a fan of. Regardless of who the performer is though, there will be one or two opening acts. Among my two evenings at the Addison Improv Comedy Club, the opening acts were just as hilarious (if not more, since they have to prove themselves more than the main acts), and a real treat because variety is the spice of life, am I right? The food was surprisingly decent. I came here planning to eat, so I showed up about an hour before the show. I wasn't expecting anything great, but I did want to give it a try. I had the basic tilapia with wild rice & vegetables and my brother & husband both had the pulled pork and philly cheesesteak sandwiches. Of course, I tasted theirs as well, and was delighted. It's obviously not fine dining, but it is tasty and acceptable food. The wait staff is also very attentive and I was very pleased with their service. My only issue with the venue is the seating arrangement. The room is filled with long tables where you sort of "pile in" on a first-come first-serve basis (whether in the VIP section or the general admission section). This is also another reason why you might want to plan to eat here. If you arrive an hour or so early for the food, you will have a better seat than those who show up just in time for the show. In any case, you may end up sitting next to people you have no interest butting arms with. I was a little uncomfortable with this and left an empty seat in between me and the rowdy party next to us. I really wasn't supposed to do that, but oh well. Overall, I love the comedy and am satisfied with the food, so I'll definitely be back here for another friends or date night out. read more
