Wall to wall floor to ceiling Fiesta goods from fiesta dresses and shirts, pinatas, dolls, flowers, everything bright and colorful and handmade by south of the border artisans. Some prices are super affordable, like paper flower hair wreaths and Lele dolls. Other items like embroidered fiesta dresses are pricier. I paid $38 for a child's fiesta dress but she looked so cute in it that it was worth it. There is also a Dia de los Muertos museum and large area of items to purchase. If you can't find it here I doubt it is available. The whole place is a bright color explosion and the staff is helpful and available. There is a little eatery inside that I will review separately. All said and done this Fiesta at North Star is a bright visit to a fun place with that Tejano vibe that makes SATX fabulous.

Fiesta at North Star feels like a celebration or party! Talk about sensory overload...your eyes see nothing but bold colors. As you scan the room, you see bright embroidered pueblo dresses hanging from racks (still own a couple), strings of papel picado flying overhead, and shelves overflowing with decorations with the spirit of San Antonio's Fiesta. The store is bold, busy, and totally festive. The space is larger than it looks from the outside...deep and wide. There is virtually no dead space. Everywhere you look you find a new discovery...handcrafted items that reflected a deep connection to Mexican and Latin American culture. The store has a wide range of authentic Fiesta merchandise and cultural goods. In fact, I saw the tissue paper flowers, large and small, throughout the store. I have fond memories of placing one the flowers or a band of flowers in my hair during the Battle of Flowers or Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA) parades. The decorations, music, and overall layout are designed to immerse visitors in the culture of Fiesta. Most items are pretty reasonably priced. However, the larger pinatas and more intricate items could cost more. In addition, staff is available throughout the store to assist you. This place is an overpriced shop for things that you might've forgotten and need something to get you through the layover at the SAT terminal. They sell things like newspapers, the Express News and other national publications. There's a few magazines, which include Texas Monthly. But other than that, it's way overpriced colas, bottles of water that are crazy expensive. Candy that's going out of date and food that offers almost zero nutritional value. The only nice thing about this store is the set of tables outside of the place where you can chill and enjoy that candy bar you got for a fistful of dollars. I don't expect anyone is going to be standing outside of this store shouting "Extra Extra Read All About It!!!" This is a bit disappointing. They didn't have any coffee when I went.

I love their magnets selections as well I purchased a mood ring that had a cat face on it. I was able to find hot sauce for a friend. It was sauce made in Texas too! I got a sassy fun notebook for a friend, stickers. I can't wait to buy more stuff online. If you purchase more than $75 - you can save on shipping. Sombrero hats, shoes, Mexican dresses, toys, the list goes on. Be careful about the stairs; they are rather steep. I love how the signs tell you to keep your children with you. There is also another sign telling you that you cannot try on the shoes. I asked the salesgirl about it, and she said that they had lots of people coming in to try on the shoes, but not buying any. And then people who actually bought the shoes would come back saying that the shoes smelled like feet from all the people who had tried on the pair of shoes previously. True story, swear to God. I guess tourists have stinky feet! I was looking for a souvenir for myself. Warned about the shoes, I actually was looking to get either a Mexican blouse or dress as I had seen several gorgeous ones during my stay in San Antonio. The salesgirl was great in helping me pick out one, and even better yet, offered a discount if I paid in cash. Done. Best yet, after visiting Market Square, I noted that this store's clothes prices were indeed less expensive than the stores on Market Square. Same merchandise, different prices. I don't know how the other merchandise stacked up, but it does pay to shop around.

One notable difference, in my humble opinion, is Mission Espada's El Cantico is a bit more tourist-friendly. Both stores are worth a visit, both have plenty of religious stuff ... El Cantico just has a better balance with more tourist-friendly gifts. The real set-apart are the t-shirts ... plenty of 'em, plenty of sizes, plenty of colors, all pretty subtle with the beautiful, understand Mission Espada logo on them. I was there in early February, it was nice to see a Valentine's display that focused on their signs and cups more focused on love than religion. And yes, miles and miles of crosses, plenty of Prayer cards, tons of "I love Texas" trinkets, reams of religious figures, several scenes from important religious events, many mass books, gobs of gift sets, and .... well ... you get the idea. I liked the pin map, where all visitors can put one for where they've come from. It's cool to see the scope of this tiny, beautiful, unassuming church. Don't forget to visit!

Yvonne was so kind and welcoming. She told us that we could try on clothing and jewelry and that she would sanitize anything for us. She asked where we were from and we let her know that we'd come from Dallas for a few days. She gave us tons of great restaurant recommendations and even called a restaurant for us to make a reservation. I will definitely be coming back to shop here in the future!
