Was refused service on Christmas weekend when I tried to use a Living Social deal that expires on 1/1/17. I was told you can't use the deal on ANY movie in its first two weeks of release. This is NOT stated in the deal fine print. Two specific films that were released more than 6 months ago are mentioned, but nothing stating all movies two weeks old or less are off limits. I took the ferry from Vashon to go to the movies, and now I won't even be able to redeem the voucher before it expires. The theater itself is nice, but that's just plain TERRIBLE customer service. read more

While some might call the Admiral creepy or dilapidated (both kind of true) I like to think of it more as "seasoned" or "vintage." You can't beat the price although I think they just raised it from $5 to $5.50. Boo. The candy and popcorn is still ridiculously overpriced, but my friend and I were able to smuggle some treats in (not very covertly) and the staff could care less. The theatres are surprisingly enormous and there's so much leg room! Bring a blanket, put your feet up on the seat in front of you and relax - there's no pretension here! read more

review regarding ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and the NON-WITTY, AWFUL, PITIFUL, unfunny group that RUIN (yes! ruin!!) the movie once a month at the admiral theatre. i have seen the movie dozens of times, able to recite all lines by heart, proudly own a VHS of the movie as well as vinyl for the original stage version and movie version (sadly have misplaced the book i use to have), and have worked a professional stage version. i provide this info to say, i am not a prude raining on this groups parade! review of ryan p. was spot on - and sadly that was 2 years ago. why ruin you ask? a nurse stripping to opening credits (save that for a midnight showing of 'showgirls' please) - she wasn't even wearing red lipstick! endless F-bombs flying (with no obvious context), the majority of 'performers' didn't seem to know the words to the songs or what was going to happen next .... and the same endless droning on about 'rules' prior to the start of the show (most had nothing to do with respect to the theatre). these are just a few highlights. am posting because i have spoken with many who feel the same. to be fair, the live cast magenta & brad seemed to know the show. I love this place. The staff is awesome and the decor is breathtaking. I highly recommend this place.

Renovations are a welcome refresh for this theater - a truly neighborhood venue. Now showing movies in all four theaters, adds to potential movie choices which include movies for adults and kids. Concession choices are plentiful, including their "deals" - their kids deal for $6 which includes popcorn, a drink and a candy choice is perfect to share with your kiddo. Always plenty of free nearby parking and many places to eat before or after to catch dinner and a show. read more

Clean, nice, the seats comfortable. I have always enjoyed my experience even when I didn't hit the taste of their popcorn.

You can't beat the price! Even though the inside is kind of dingy and the bathrooms smell gross, I'm going there to sit in a dark room and watch practically new movies! The drinks and snacks are fairly priced as well which I appreciate. My favorite part is the ghetto wine bar upstairs on the weekends, it really gives it a fun funky charm. read more

Nice neighborhood theater running second-run movies. It seems a little bit run-down but before our movie last night the owner came out to announce the restoration of some of the original murals, installation of new cushier reclining chairs (with cup-holders), and a new resin floor. He's still keeping the concession prices low and the movie prices at $5, which is awesome. I love not paying $10 to see a film, and I'm glad to have the Admiral in West Seattle. read more

My husband and I went to see Public Enemy here. I felt that the theater certainly added to the experience of watching a movie set in the late 30's as it's decor is from a long while ago. I often manage to miss the big films when they first come out and was thrilled to discover that Admiral Theaters shows them late in the game. I appreciated that they had the lighting low, but not totally dark before the movie played and also liked the fact that they didn't play the looping reel of ads prior to the previews. I forgot that theaters used to do that. Can't beat the prices and parking either. Not for someone looking for high end cushy seats with cup holders and bathrooms with auto flush toilets, but certainly worth the trip from Magnolia for us. Plus, I have not seen such insightful graffiti on stall walls in ages. I was tempted to add my own! read more

The pricing is pretty good the quality is not the greatest but it's super convenient for hubby and I when we want to watch a movie that we missed on the big screen at amc or reginal theaters. read more

I live around the corner from the Admiral. I was given a gift of Fandango for Christmas. I was thrilled thinking I could catch a few movies locally. My friend and I planned to go and checking what was playing saw the "we do not accept Fandango" across the options. How dissappointing. I would have loved to given them my business. read more

I love the concept behind Admiral Theatre but the seats are pretty uncomfortable and the screen is second quality as well, but you get what you pay for in this case. Also I'm not too fond of the movies they show here, wish they had more comedies. Maybe I'll go see Thor there tomorrow, its playing there right now. read more

Good for an inexpensive night 'round town. I'm always cold and the seats are not comfortable...but it's the only theater in west seattle.

The admiral is charging more yet the quality of the theater has gone down exponentially. As one commentator said below, the drapes are falling off the walls, there are groups of seats that are covered in plastic and unusable, the smell of paint (or some other chemical) is strong and takes a while to get used to. I normally don't complain but I was pretty disappointed that they would charge $5.25 for an environment quite a bit worse than the $3.00 Crest theater. Probably won't go back until the 'renovations' are done. Thanks! read more

This place is not even trying. They try to push it as an old school theater but they haven't even tried to remodel it. The movies usually come out at the same time they are on redbox. There's a giant pole that absconds the view if you sit in the wrong place. The popcorn was 'ok' but this was a terrible movie going experience. They should just shut down! There are old refurbished theaters in seattle - Cinerama, a theater close the University, one in Ballard, and Columbia city has a century old building which was completely redone with new seats, flooring, beautiful wall upholstery, digital projection and 7.1 surround sound. They show first run movies and are CHEAPER than the Admiral. Just Close down! The only reason I didnt put zero stars is because yelp would not allow me to. read more

I have also been going to the Admiral Theatre since I was a very young child and yes I remember Pearl she is my grandmother. She is not longer with us and missed very much. Those were the best times when grandma (Pearl) owned the restraunt next to the admiral. The Hi-U parade use to start about 6 block north of the admiral so we would sit out front of the restraunt next door and watch. West Seattle was a great place when I was a kid! This theatre definitely serves a purpose in the community with affordable film-going entertainment, but they really need to invest in refurbishing this place. The movies shown here are the same ones you can watch on Netflix and the setting is a little worn out for the price ($5.75 per show), plus concessions. These guys need to realize that they are not just competing against other theatres, but home entertainment as well. I do hope they get a clue and invest in making this place a bit nicer, or it may not last. read more

This is a WS staple it's where all the locals came when we were kids and in high school lol. It was pretty stained and run down. But it has been renovated in recent years and is showing newer movies. It's definitely a well functioning theater. No frills or fancy stuff. Haters don't forget that WS was blue collar AF and ghetto until the great gentrification was initiated about ten years ago. This place is a historic landmark and a testament to the community that was here before rich folk busted the community blew out our housing options and displaced everyone down South. read more

We've been long-time Admiral residents, so we've been excitedly anticipating the remodel. Just went to see Passengers last night. I have to say we were heartbroken. We really really wanted the remodel to be cool, but has fallen way short. For us, a lot of the experience is in the seating. The new seats are very narrow and we found ourselves feeling like we were crammed onto budget airline in seats that leaned way back even if you didn't want them to. We were expecting something akin to Factoria - especially given the neighborhood. Two of the three employees working last night were unfriendly and the sound was just a little under volume. People and audio can improve, but I just don't know that they'll be able to come back from the choice of seating furniture. We were looking forward to The Admiral being our exclusive theater, but it seems Factoria and it's reclining, spacious seats will continue to be it for us - unless we do a rental at home (which sounds better and is more comfortable than the Admiral). So sad today. read more

I've been coming here for 25 years. Shoes stuck to the concrete... fine. Billowing smoke coming out of the projector... fine. Busted seats... ok. But the ol' jack-hole taking tickets goes out of his way to be a jerk and completely ruins what should be an enjoyable evening. I am updating my review, not because of the renovation (which is a success), but because of several negative experiences with customer service. For example, the man who often sells tickets, who we have facetiously nicknamed "Mr. Friendly," seems like he doesn't enjoy people. Also, we recently missed out on a movie because they had only one person (Mr. Friendly), selling tickets to a long line of customers. By the time we made it to the counter, the movie was already 10 minutes in. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I didn't mind the frayed carpeting, musty smells, torn carpeting, and seats with no arm rests or cup holders when it was a second run theater and movies were only 5 bucks. But now they've gone to first run and the prices are the same as nicer theaters but they've made no improvements whatsoever. Oh, and during the movie last night a rat (yes, you read that right) ran right past me down the aisle. When I told the manager about it he just shrugged, smiled and said "well, it's a 97 year old building." Ummm.... Ever heard of a thing called an exterminator ???? read more

I would normally support the Admiral. One of the few older theatres with comfortable leg room. OK the seats are not high backed rockers and the arm rest s do not go up....but this is not the new Regal Cinemas. However the other night my girlfriend and I attended a screening for a SIFF film here and it was awful. The film was not great but the negative part was that the AC did not work and it was miserable. As the movie wore on the temperature kept on climbing. This could have been forgiven with a simple not taped to the box office window, the entry door or an announcement before the film started. When we left early dripping sweat and panting I spoke to the manager who essentially refused to apologize. After a fairly uncomfortable confrontation the SIFF volunteer on-site offered us two vouchers for another film and the most important of all corrective measures...a simple apology. I think that I will try the Admiral again but only in the winter when surely the heat will be out. read more

This review is about the disrepair of the Admiral Twin itself. The walls are crumbling. The projected movie was stopped twice last week duing the single movie. The seats are falling apart. The sound is too loud. If feels like a funeral parlor. Outside of these challenged, everything is great! read more

i think it would be a great deal if they weren't charging so much, especially when the theater looks like crap! the matinee was $8.50 so one can only imagine how much the evening charge would be. it's way too much for admission, with the shabby inside, with torn curtains etc. i can go with those admission fees, if the theater looked updated. i think it's great to have first run movies in our local area. read more

This has been my neighborhood theater for 20 years and I sadly assumed they would go under someday, giving way to the competition from big chain theaters. If I could give this place 0 stars I would! They constantly have films messing up, films stopping midway, sound issues, video issues, the projection is always misaligned, run the gamut whatever you can think of going wrong they have it here! Mice problems, they have rats, they have roaches, the bathrooms are falling apart, whole rows of seats are missing, seats falling apart, the screens are damaged, if they have to run the heat it warps the screen, everything you can think of that is messed up at a theater goes on here. And management are jerks and the refuse to be nice when things go wrong nor do they even care. This place is so run down it really should be condemned. And to top it off they charge $6 for the "experience" when you only have to pay $3-$3.50 for Crest in Shoreline or Regal 13 in Renton, which are great 2nd run theaters with excellent screens and service. Admiral Theater is straight garbage and the "convenience" just ain't worth it. read more

love this theater. We went there in High School all the time about 35 years ago. I think my Grandparents went there. I was there a couple years ago watching "The Help" and I got the feeling I was being watched. I was in the middle of the theater and I turned my head and behind me in the right isle I saw a woman in a long white outfit from the 20's staring at me. I asked my mom why that lady was staring at us and we looked back and she was gone and my mom said "what lady?". I've always believed in ghosts but I have never seen one until that day. Fantastic local movie theater. I think they have the best popcorn of any Seattle Theater although the soda often has a strange taste sort of like soap. For $5.50 who could complain. For $9 you get popcorn, soda, and candy- beat that anywhere else. We go often, check the seats before sitting as they are old. They hope to replace them soon. We love it! read more

I worked across the street when it was renovated way back when. Took my son there tonight - wow. What a dump. I don't think it's been painted or cleaned since the original renovation. Women's bathroom? The faucets that weren't running already were beat. Get your regular sized self in a stall & then try to figure out how to get OUT without running into the toilet paper dispenser. There's a gap in between the seating in the theater that had POOLS OF LIQUID. Water? Who knows? It's falling apart & it's a damn shame. Take some pride in your business! read more

I missed Hunger Games at the 1st run theaters so I made an evening in Alki Beach and West Seattle, ending up here for the 8:20 show. First time I had been here. This place is filthy. I've been to other budgets and art theaters like The Crest, Harvard Exit, etc., but this building is in horrible shape. You feel like contagion is happening on your seat, on the carpets, in the bathroom, yuk. I grew up on a cattle ranch and cleaned out the dairy barn so dirt does not bother me. But years of uncleaned human filth is disturbing. The tattered moldy drapes on the walls should be torn down, just go with concrete and plaster. It doesn't take much to rent a steam cleaner and clean the carpets once a month but these have not been touched in many years. The fact that at 8:00 pm on Saturday night there were just a few of us tells a lot about local perceptions. read more

I grew up in West Seattle, and remember going to the Admiral when it cost a nickel for Saturday matinees. Ice cream bars and popcorn were ten cents. On Saturday afternoon, they played Keno on the screen, and once a year we had Royal Cola auctions (paid for with bottle caps). There was a small diner next door and the bakery was across the street. Fresh, hot loaves of bread that couldn't be cut until they cooled down. I know that the Admiral has been remodeled, so I don't know if the balcony is still there. My Mom worked at Virgil's drugstore, on the SE corner of Admiral and California, and I used to buy turtles at the pet store next to Lafayette Elementary School.\ My first movies were Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry. We also watched newsreels of world news. Really brings back memories of the 50's and 60's. Does anyone remember Robert's grocery on the corner of Walker and California? read more

We love the Admiral Theater! Yeah, it is old and dingy, but it has great character and charm. AND big, comfortable seats. And friendly owners. And great prices. We are glad to see that the movie selections are becoming a little more current and less kid focused. The Admiral is one of our favorite places. Just be sure to wear an extra sweater--the theater is drafty. read more
