Cigarette and spilled beer smell, expensive! This place gave me an impression I didn't expect. Based on the reviews on google I was thinking it would be pretty good. First impression - I walk in at around 6 pm, it's still light out and at this time you want a nice quiet dinner but their music is so loud, luckily we found a table in the back where it wasn't an issue. The table where we settled had a stain and I asked the waitress to clean it, she gently swiped that spot but it remained, I asked again and this time with some effort applied she got it off. As we were waiting for the order I noticed the main scent of the bar is spilled beer smell which suggests it's not the best place but the food was on the way and there was no way out of it. The appetizer (sweet potato tamale I believe it is called) was truly amazing, hence I'm leaving 2 stars and not 1! Then the tacos arrived: I had a bite of the chicken one which was so bland and flavorless, a mushroom one was average. While eating I started smelling tobacco... Turns out the patio door was ajar and people were smoking out there. Maybe to some folks out there outdoor smoking on the property of a bar is ok but not to me. Why is that door open and everyone inside has to tolerate that disgusting smell. Also worth mentioning their prices! They are a $$ restaurant but the prices are as if you're at a $$$ one. A plate of tacos $22?! I thought they were gonna be special for that price but they were worse then the ones at a cheap truck place. Disappointing experience! read more

The hotel lobby is awesome with live music, and the locals all fill the space. The aesthetic was cute with fun seating. We loved our seats upstairs to enjoy the music. Unfortunately, the bar was a total bummer. On a Monday I waited to be acknowledged for about 20 minutes, then when I asked a white long/curly-haired server where would be the best place to order, he looked at me and walked away. I found a spot at the bar and while I waited another 10 minutes, I heard the same server laugh to the very overwhelmed bartender how awful a customer was, calling him a "douchebag". A couple customers had to flag down the bartender since he served numerous people ahead of me. The drinks finally came and were awful. Two stars are for the other staff I saw diligently working hard while said bartender roamed aimlessly...and the ambiance of the hotel lobby. We were super excited to come to this cute little hotspot and we still enjoyed our time in the balcony seats listening to music. However, we hope they get their bar staff some self help books or a support group for grumps... and "bartending & hospitality for dummies". My recommendation... order a beer... bottled would probably be best. Update: changed to 3 star because we ordered from the server with a dread-bun (Emilio) and he is awesome, quick, and super hospitable... and so is Gregorio... But same bartender so we got beers and they were significantly better than the cocktails. read more

Nice place! We stayed at the Inn and the bar and restaurant were both wonderful. Great service! Carne Asada was beautiful. Steak was outstanding. Margarita was on the small side but packed full of quality and a great punch. Didn't need another! Great stop for some local flare and food. read more

literally just got to Taos and the first person I encounter is Tony when I went to go put in my order. I asked him if this was the only place open that served food and he looked at me lile I was an idiot and said umm yah and then I told him sorry I'm from denver I just got here and he said ohhhh like there was an issue with where I was from?!?. I sat at the bar and just told him I wanted to place an order for pick up and he said ok and I saw that he was busy and didn't want to bother him so I just told a server that was standing next to me I wanted to place an order and Tony started to yell at me that he was going to put my order in and that he was busy in such a rude manner everyone turned and looked at me. It was so embarrassing I couldnt even wait inside for my meal I walked out to wait for my dinner. I will never come back here. read more

We have visited this little bar before and enjoyed ourselves back then, but today, 5 stars AND a review because Issa and the clientele visiting made our day! The drinks were absolutely delicious and please do yourself a favor and order a mimosa-I know-simplest of beverages-but truly, order one from Issa and between his expertise (and perfect 'secret' ingredient), awesome energy, and the relaxing ambiance...you will have the perfect way to enjoy the rest of your time in Taos! read more

We have loved the Adobe Bar for years--good food, great music, fair prices, friendly servers. Friendly servers and good music are still there...BUT...no vegetarian green chili and the regular chili no longer comes with a setup (sour cream, tortilla, salsa)--it even looks different and the price is NOT reasonable. I asked for a shot of cheap rye (thinking $7 or so) but got a $12 shot instead. And heard the bad news that even Old Overholt, if they had it, would be $12 a shot. Even though we were in Taos for a week, we didn't go back. I'm not quite sure what my 'complaint' is--the whole experience was just 'off,' cutting corners, going the cheap route (no tortilla w green chili--please). And good music and friendly servers just can't overcome the impression of a 'thin' experience. read more

This place reminded me of a ski lodge. Came here with my host to check out some live music, get some beers and see what Taos nightlife on a Saturday night was like. This is part of a hotel as you can see from the name so I'm guessing half of the people were tourists and the other half local. I have no way of determining this though. Just thought I'd point that out. It was pretty funny. All the beers that they had on tap here are from Oregon. I live in Portland for those of you that might be reading this. Popular hangout here in the heart of Taos. They have music every night of the week. Eclectic crowd. Good times. read more

Friendly barkeep, great margaritas to be be had. The bar is stashed inside the Taos Inn, a classic location steps away from the plaza.

We had a really lovely time at the Adobe bar. Doc Martin's restaurant shares entrance to the Adobe bar. Unfortunately, we were one of many others who decided to enjoy Flamenco dancing with our dinner and the place was packed. These women come in from Sante Fe twice a year and the crowd reflects that. We saw people arguing about seeing the dancers and strong words were exchanged. Despite that, it was really lovely, the staff was quick and thoughtful, and the setting was beautiful. I bet this spot is wonderful to go to on it's own without a show. The food was good but it was higher priced than the taste - but I also am a diehard fan of TexMex. We had a couple of Pacifico beers and the original margarita was delicious. Maybe one of the best margaritas I've ever had. Due to the ambiance, the staff, and the lovely dancers, I'm giving Adobe bar 4 stars. I'd like to give this place a shot without a crowd and see the difference. read more

This is a tough review because it is really the average of 5 stars and 1 star. Hubs and I had drinks at the Adobe Bar. One server was awesome- unfortunately, she was not ours. The one table our server had (us) she could barely manage. We saw her twice. Their legendary margs must be lengendary because they are ridiculously overpriced and not even good! I had the El Ultimo ($9.50) and it sucked and it was tiny. Seriously. However, we came back later in the evening and the Monkey Feeders were playing in the lobby (Taos Inn) and it was rockin'! People dancing and having an awesome time. The band was great. FYI- they have live music every night of the week so definitely go and check out whoever is there. This time we had vodka tonics ($5) and they were fine. Come and dance and skip the margs! (Go to El Camino down the road for those!!) read more

We stumbled across this spot to get some light fare for dinner. Outdoor seating in lovely downtown Taos. Boyfriend ordered 3 tacos, I had nachos and our friend ordered green Chile. The food was just average and the service was not that great and people lit cigarettes by our table. Servers did not even refill our waters. Oh well. I like the atmosphere. And a few years ago, we visited and enjoyed the limited menu. But I won't return again. The nachos were good. The burgers, the main thing of the limited entree choices, was really uninspiring...$20 for a small basic patty served on a basic store bought type bun. I seem to recall on our last visit that the burger was really solid.... And it was maybe $14. We also tried the taco platter ($22) and had to return it. I want to like this place, and would give it somewhat a pass for it's good atmosphere, but the owners seen to be taking advantage of their customers with this food.... Decent food...green Chile burger and spinach kale salad. The fish tacos were swimming in watery dressing, tho. The service, however, was terrible. It took 15 minutes to even get someone's attention. 15 minutes more to get glasses of water for three guests. Our waiter disappeared and our waitress was preoccupied chatting with other guests, presumably regulars. There was no ambience to speak of. This place is lovely and located in the heart of Taos, right next to the plaza. We ate lunch here and the food was awesome. We had the best vegetarian chile relleno and delicious huevos rancheros. They have a vegetarian green chile but not red. Our server was super sweet. They let us bring our little dog on the patio with us. There is a front patio with a view of the city action but we prefered the quiet patio out back. Be sure to visit the historic fountain in the lobby. I'm so glad I finally visited this place after several trips to Taos. read more

If you want the best margarita AND chili relleno in town this is the place to be! Chill atmosphere and prompt service. This is a great place after hitting the slopes. They have a charming fire for date night, high top bar for hanging with buddies, or two-four tops. The nightly live music is a great plus the band was excellent. read more

They say The Adobe Bar (we all call it Doc Martin's) is "the living room of Taos." It may not have the world's best drinks (though if you like margaritas they do - all fresh ingredients!) and the service can be a little spotty... and sometimes it is a bit loud (thanks to the live music every night), but, you know, it is all worth it.... Because I've seen it all here. From concha belts to boleros to some of the best cowboy boot watching in the Southwest, you'll find it at the Taos Inn... Hippies, Hipsters, Cowboys, Lowriders, Tourists and Locals, young and old (sometimes very old) all hang out here, eating the nachos (pretty yummy), watching the music or ignoring the music, and drinking to stay warm on the cold winter (and cool summer) nights. I don't think there is better people watching...anywhere... than the Taos Inn. Definitely a go-to spot for friends and family or a celebration of any kind (even if you're just celebrating 5 o'clock, or celebrating being in Taos!) In summer, the patio is nice as long as a monsoon doesn't creep in on you - though those are actually so much fun you might not mind getting wet. And you'll dry out pretty darn quick at this altitude. And a side note : I may be acclimated to the altitude, but one Baby Buddha margarita makes driving home a dicey proposition... Delicious, but don't plan to drive home too soon after one of those puppies. And don't forget to order the nachos, they help with the tequila... and are delicious besides. Oh, and because it is in Taos, don't be shocked that last call comes around 9:30. read more

Love! Delicious and fresh margaritas, great atmosphere, amazing nachos. We stopped in on a Friday night with friends who own a cabin on the mountain - they told us Taos Inn is a family favorite and I totally understand why. This place is a disaster. Everything is inconsistent. The layout is non functional. The bartenders are slow as molasses. And everything takes an hour. Order your drinks, meals, and the check all at once and remind them of that every time they go darting by overwhelmed with the other three customers they are trying to help. I've ordered drinks at this place... The first one tastes a certain way the second one tastes completely different. And they also have that Taos attitude. Like you should feel lucky to be there. I love going to the Taos Inn's Adobe Bar in the winter to snag the table by the sunken kiva fireplace.. that is.. if they have a fire going! Great place in the summer as well.. Enjoy a margarita outside on the front patio and watch Taos interesting combination of traffic cruise on by. Tip for the patio, supposedly they only allow smoking on the left side of the patio, so, check which side the ashtrays are on if you don't want to sit next to a table-full of chain-smoking 20-somethings. Was in Taos for 3 nights and went here for all 3 nights, so clearly I didn't hate it. Great margaritas. Just watch out for the potentially hazardous shit bands that may destroy your happy drunkness. The aging hippies who still thinks Pink Floyd rock need to have their floor length beards soaked in tequila and set on fire. Normally I'd say this is a waste of tequila but if it's Jose I think thats OK. On the other hand the band on Saturday night was really good and only enhanced my drinking speed and general demeanour. The bar itself is small with a fun relaxed atmosphere if somewhat bright in the table area with some dubious bits of plastic posing as art. This place only gets 3 stars because it closes so early. Thursday night and it closes at 10:15 - wtf! Friday and Saturday not much better. Conveniently we stumbled over to the Alley to find further drinking. read more

The food was delicious. Service was awful and disorganized...the worst service I've encountered in years. We sat on the patio, which had all of 11 tables and 3 servers. After waiting 25 minutes without so much as our drink order being taken, we asked all 3 of them who our server. None of them knew. One finally took our drink order, but after another 20 minutes no one had taken our food order, so we started asking around again. When the food came, there was no silverware and no promise to retrieve any. Given the other delays, I went to retrieve silverware myself. All told, the kitchen seems well managed but the servers seem to have no manager, direction or experience. One might expect his in a tourist town at the beginning of the season, but by Labor Day you would think these things would be worked out. read more

Just to pile on from the other reviews, this place has nice live music and great drinks. Seems that it's jammed with people every night, and many are locals who hang out here on a regular basis. A super-diverse crowd ranging from hotel guests to your average Taos citizen to burned-out ex-hippies. We were staying at the Inn and decided to sit outside to enjoy the weather while having a beer. Nice, extensive selection of drinks. Seemed to be a nice bar menu (we didn't order food). Attentive staff. We were there during happy hour and the prices were ridiculous...tourist area so expected but still felt gouged. They are located on the main drag of Taos and the traffic is just crazy. Everything from big semi trucks, dump trucks to regular street traffic to people showing off their LOUD motorcycles and cars. Not very relaxing which is a shame because it is a cute spot. read more

Part of the Taos Inn and Doc Martin's complex, simply a must-visit when in Taos for any reason, regardless of whether you're a guest of the hotel or not. Given the somewhat geriatric skew to the tourist crowd who flocks to this area of about 6,000 population, this joint really is "as good as you're going to get" in terms of nightlife and live music in the 'downtown' area. Music is done at 10:00 p.m. and it's understandable why, since it would probably hurt their hotel business to go much further. The music is right in the lobby, with rooms above nearby. But a beautiful seating area, very well done, the music is not "too loud," and the service was very good. The live music here was of higher quality (and service) than at the Alley Cantina, but that may have just been our luck at the time. In fact, we left the Alley mid-set to come back here to experience better music, and weren't disappointed. Get a drinky-poo and have some fun. When it's packed, yes, it may take longer than normal to get a drink at a table, but if you're in a hurry to down drinks, you should be sitting at the bar. More importantly if you're in a rush in Taos... you're probably in the wrong state of mind in the first place. You're on vacation. Lighten up, Francis... and enjoy the good times while they last. read more
