It was Bernice who made this place special. We wanted chili but had to switch to Sagebrush because we got to Taos after many places closed. But Bernice's welcome, kindness and excellent service made all the difference. She gave us a taste of Scottish beer to make sure we liked it. We did. She gave us a taste of green and red chili, which I guess is what Taos means is chili--not the bowl of meat and beans we had in mind. So at 8:30pm, we settled for a loaded baked potato, and black beans & roasted corn, and carrot cake. They were tasty but the corn and beans had the dreaded Canola. Bernice completely understood our avoidance of the "bad" oils. We minimized it on just the one side dish. We were hungry. But please owners, switch to lard! Or butter. It's the trend and you'll get more business. It costs about $.50 a plate more. We"ll pay it. Many will. It was quiet and restful dining. Sagebrush was across the street from our hotel, so we were grateful we had no more driving on an 11 hour day from Flagstaff. read more

As cliché as it may sound, my partner and I are very generous tippers. We enjoy supporting good service and good people--especially when we're out to support our friends, like we were this night at Sagebrush in Taos. But after the experience we had with bartender "Katie Rose", there was no way I could justify leaving more than a minimal tip that accurately reflected the rude and dismissive service we received. She was happy to serve us attitude, and I was more than happy to tip accordingly. I'm sure her regulars will take care of her--what good are two more customers when you already have your favorites? We arrived in good spirits, ordered our first drinks, and sat at the bar. After finishing our drinks, we were ignored repeatedly--Katie walked past us several times without acknowledging us. After a long wait, we politely got her attention with a simple, "Miss, can we get another drink?" to which she responded with an aggressive attitude as if we were bothering her just for asking. When we finally got our second round, my margarita was half full and extremely watered down. I politely asked why it wasn't poured the same way as the first. She rolled her eyes, claimed she "added more ice," dumped it into a smaller cup, made a mess in the process, and said, "This is what we normally serve. Trust me, I make these a hundred times a day." Her entire demeanor was condescending and dismissive. To make things worse, Katie then went and spoke to security, and shortly afterward, we were blatantly cut off after just two drinks--one of which was barely a full serving. Security looked us up and down with attitude, and without any explanation, Katie printed our check before we even finished eating. She started scooting us over to make room for her regulars. The message was loud and clear: we weren't welcome. We were calm and respectful the entire time. We didn't argue, didn't raise our voices, and didn't match her energy. We simply came to support our friends in the band and enjoy our night. But her attitude toward us, compared to how she treated her regulars, was night and day. As someone who owns businesses and is studying law, I take service and presentation seriously. Serving a guest a glass half full of mostly ice is not just lazy--it's misleading. And treating first-time guests like they're a burden is a guaranteed way to lose potential loyal customers. But again, I'm sure Katie Rose doesn't care. We're not regulars, and to her, we probably never mattered to begin with. The food was okay, shoutout to the kitchen staff. It's just a shame that kind of service taints the whole experience. If you're having a bad day, that's okay. We all do. But take the night off instead of taking it out on the guests. read more

We had no expectations when we ate at the Sagebrush on the 4th of July. It was already 8:00 so our choices were few and we didn't want to go towards the Plaza due to the traffic. It's a great hotel restaurant! Great vibe: Live music, people sitting inside and out with dogs. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry. I had the Rellenos and my partner had Enchies. I stayed at the Sagebrush in, so my first night in town it was an easy choice to eat dinner here and I'm so glad I did. I got a chimichanga which was delicious and a margarita that was everything I expected. The music every night was a wonderful addition and really pleasant never overtaking the ambience at all. Recommend for travelers to go check out Sagebrush Grill and Cantina and look around the great hotel and historic yards that it has. The server made a big deal about us wanting to do separate checks, 3 of us. First said he could not and it would be 20% fee. The cantina is very limited on food. Don't expect prompt table side service at the bar, but if you want some cheap $5 beers and strong cocktails then this is the place to come. They have very limited hours on the weekdays, 4-9 I think. They are somewhat dog friendly. You are ok on the patio and maybe inside if it isn't busy. read more

One of the worst experiences in lodging and dining ever! The rooms are old and not maintained. The handicapped room we were given we couldn't get the door to open, had to practically knock the door in to get it to open. The TV didn't work, and there was a party outside our window most of the night. Will never stay here again! The restaurant is slow and the food wasn't good. No coffee or water the entire meal. We stopped in for their prime rib special on Friday night. The food was amazing but the service was not the best and, because of our group size, we were automatically charged a 20% gratuity. It took 20 minutes to get our drink/dinner order placed, another 15 before the drinks showed, and another 30 waiting on the food. We never got offered a second round of drinks and it took another 30 minutes to get our checks and change once we finished eating. Amazing service and food. We fell in love with Sagebrush Grill and Cantina. We were in Taos during Thanksgiving break for six days and we ate most of our meals there. They have a bar next door that gets pretty busy and features local musicians. At the restaurant, the service is relaxed. All of the staff are friendly. The dining room is surrounded by beautiful paintings that reflect the landscape. The food is delicious - the baked potatoes are excellent as is their blackened salmon, beans, salad, steak, and fries. So many great things on their menu to enjoy and they also have specials. It's not a fancy place, but with an open kitchen, comfortable chairs and large tables, it was a place we looked forward to having our meals at during our visit. read more

Server was absolutely the rudest person I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. After being seated we waited a while until she came by and pretty much asked "what do you want". No hello, no sorry about the wait. She then wouldn't seat part of our group that came in a little later than us, but when some regulars came in they got seated. We had some Vietnam era veterans with us that had to go up to the bar to be served and then carry their orders back to the table. We ordered the cheese enchilada plate & fish tacos... it was all yummy!!! The tacos were interesting... two toasted flat corn tortillas with cheese in between then grilled diced fish, lettuce, cabbage & Pico de Gallo on top. It came with a nice salsa and plenty of limes. We had a going away dinner for a friend last night. Big party and everyone was talking. The server Colt got very overwhelmed which is understandable. However, towards the end he became very rude and uncalled for. He spilt water all over one on the guests. Told others when he brought the wrong stuff "you get what you get". I have never been treated in such a way. When cleaning our table he started throwing dishes and broke a few. Very unprofessional. We came to hear Chris Morel & Charlie Woehler out on the patio. Waited by a sign outside that said to wait for host to seat you, but no host in site for several minutes. I went inside to find host, but he was coming out to tell the rest of our party that they couldn't sit down without signing in. No problem, but you don't need to be rude about it. The host name is Simon. He is spending his time telling everyone what they can't do (can't move chairs, even though he took one of our chairs without asking), instead of seating people. Let's just say that they couldn't have picked a worst host, unless they don't want customers coming back. read more

The corn and poblano chowder is to die for! I regretted ordering only a cup. So good! The caesar salad was "southwestern", but I'm not sure how. The store bought croutons were a disappointment. Still tasted great and was dressed well. The truffle tater tots with parm and herbs were a tasty app. Our waitress was attentive and fun. My spouse's drink arrived 30 min after i got mine. some got orders without the sides, and a couple got their steaks served on a desert plate with fries instead of the mashed potatoes that was supposed to be served. I get it its a lot of work but a rush like this should mean the staff falls apart and gives me attitude when I bring up the issues so they could fix them.
