Our party of 8 ate at Adobe Deli around 4 pm on a Saturday...visiting family who live in las cruces and they were so excited to take us here for dinner. Upon walking in, the smell was immediately unsettling. It smelled dirty, musky, and nasty, and the main room was incredibly dark (like so dark you may just run into tables if you weren't paying attention!) Honestly they probably keep it so dark in there to hide how disgustingly dirty it is. We sat down at a table, and waited for probably 10 minutes before even being greeted. Our waitress came over to take our drink order, and she seemed like she was very distracted and maybe even on drugs. She skipped over one of us, and we had to wait until she started bringing drinks back to let her know she never took the last person's drink order. We then place our food order and she still seems distracted, keeps looking around while we're telling her our order! Now we're wondering if she's getting anything correct. Fast forward to when she starts to bring the food out...a few of us got the French onion soup (as appetizers and with the steak meals) and she ended up bringing an extra soup and said she'd just leave it for us - we were fine with this as long as we weren't charged for it. I have to say the soup was very tasty! Lots of flavor and lots of melted cheese. The main courses start to come out, and our waitress forgets one persons meal, then says she'll be right back with it. In the meantime, the (medium rare) steak someone in our party ordered was insanely rare (basically mooing)! So he says he will send it back to be cooked more. Fast forward 10-15 minutes later and they finally bring the missing dish out, and then take the steak back to cook more. We are all now basically finished with our meals, and this other lady (who we assume was the manager) brings out the steak and asks "who's steak is this?" Sets it down, and walks away without saying anything. If someone's order was not made correctly, the least you can do as a manager is apologize or ask if she can get anything else! All in all, the food was just subpar (except for the French onion soup), the French dip was dry, au jus was cold, the pepper and sausage hero had maybe 5 small pieces of sausage on it, the steaks were bland, and the fried green beans were bland and flavorless. Pretty sad considering the steaks were $30, and the sandwiches were $11. OH and after paying and leaving the restaurant, we looked over the bill again and realized that we were charged an extra $2 PER FRENCH DIP for cheese! NOWHERE on the menu did it say that cheese was extra, and the waitress didn't even tell us that cheese would be extra. She didn't even offer to have cheese or not, so I guess she assumed we'd want it AND charged us extra for it! The bill was all sorts of messed up with extra things being charged (like that extra bowl of French onion soup that she accidentally brought out and left), and with things missing from it. We just wanted to pay and get out of there, so we didn't bother trying to have the bill fixed. Oh and someone in our party asked for a Pepsi to go, but it was never brought out either! So if you've made it this far in my review, you can see why we gave it a 1 star (and that's honestly probably pretty generous). I would never recommend anyone to waste their time coming here! read more

What a find out in the middle of no where! As we were passing through Deming and looking for a place for lunch, we stumbled upon Adobe Deli. Don't be put off by the name...it's actually a restaurant, cigar, wine and whiskey bar! Very quaint and full of stuffed trophy game...they bring in entertainment and throw parties up to 200! The menu is quite extensive, the portions enormous- and everything was delicious! I highly recommend a stop if you are anywhere near here! read more

DO NOT BOTHER GOING TO THIS PLACE! If I could give zero stars I would. My first time to the Adobe Deli last year was absolutely wonderful. Delicious food and wonderful service! Big plates filled with delicious food! Served hot and fresh. The waitress asked if it was our first time and gave us some history about the place and invited us to wonder and take pictures while our food was being cooked. She was very charming and intelligent. However, today was the complete opposite. Waitress was rude and entitled mannered. She got the orders all wrong. Forgot about us many times. We had to find her to get some service. She kept flirting behind the bar with the help. Took 2 hours to even get our food. Once our food arrived it was crispy burnt beyond burnt, dry and the fries were cold. Food was returned. Last but not least, just as we were leaving the AC clicked on and a horrible smell like cat piss and a dirty litter box flooded the room. Now a few hours later everyone is sick. Ok. I am so happy that this place exists. I have been temporarily stationed in Deming for a clinical rotation, and I became a regular here. This is not a place to go if you are in a hurry. You should plan to spend about 1.5-2 hours here. The food is cooked by one person sometimes, but they do a great job. These are real country people who live in a boarder town. They are not going to pretend to be your best friend, but they will give you a tour of the property if you are interested. This place is so different and so special, so go slow and experience all it has to offer. For food, the portions are giant. It is expensive, but you can easily split all the entrees. For appetizers we have had and loved the fried green beans, the chicken rolls (like southwestern eggrolls), the loaded baked potatoes, the french onion soup, pork ribs, and bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. For main courses we tried a burger, which was inches thick. We also tried the strip steak, as it was one of the smaller portions. All of it was really good. When there you usually see them bringing out meat on skewers that are more like swords. It's awesome. If you want an awesome sandwich, they also do those great too. The place is filled with taxidermy, which could turn some people off, but you are in Deming, NM so there's no reason to be high and mighty. There is an old library in the back and the owner let us borrow any books that we wanted to check out. I'd recommend exploring outside as well, playing some pool, and taking the time to appreciate that this place is here. read more

Absolutely the worst Ribeye steak I've ever had in my mouth. It had zero seasoning. It even tasted as if it wasn't cooked on a seasoned grill. The steak was great, as was the French onion soup, and a generous amount of booze in the drinks, but the place needs a good cleaning. It's like dining in a house that has sat vacant for decades without being cleaned. Dust everywhere. I don't understand how anyone could not give this place 5 stars. From the moment you walk up to it you are greeted with a fun, eclectic vibe. Random animal sculptures greet you outside and a large drunk 49er type and mountain lion partying for new year's greet you inside. The decor continues with stuffed animals including an alligator, obligatory liscence plates from all eras, table shuffleboard/candlepin bowling, foosball, etc. When I arrived for lunch the only other people there were cowboys warming themselves with some beer by the wood stove complaining about the weather. The food was also amazing. The reviews are correct, the French Onion Soup was the best I have ever had. I have never seen that much cheese on top of soup, it coated the bowl. Their deli meats and Boar's Head so you know they are good. I got a pastrami on rye and the meat was piled high and grilled just the right amount. The bread was marble rye instead of light rye which was a little disappointing but nothing major. The first couple onion rings were a little cool but the ones underneath were great. It's definitely worth the little trek out of Deming and I will be back soon to try some of their other offerings. read more

I haven't been her in a while, but from what I remember.....This place was recommended to us by a guy we met on a bus, he warned us that this place was in the middle of nowhere, and he was right (I mean I was thinking cannibals from "The Hills Have Eyes" middle of nowhere). Okay the food was awesome with made from scratch French onion soup that was out of this world, the Porterhouse, aged to perfection, was juicy, moist, and so flippin' boss (the best steak I have ever had). The atomosphere was quaint with kerosene lamps on the tables, the "deli" is an old school-house turned restaurant; the downside of the whole experience had to be the drive to this place, I was freaking out! I came to NM to visit my parents. This is a place they've been to before. They brought my husband and I here for dinner. There were MAYBE a handful of people in the place. No employee greeted us or acknowledged us, so we walked over to a table and sat down. We were told we couldn't sit there. After the 3rd table that we chose to sit at and were told we couldn't we asked if we could sit at the bar. After ordering a cocktail I decided this place wasn't good enough or deserved our company/money. What kind of establishment is this? Is it because of how we looked? That's all I have to go by based on the handful of customers in there. My husband and I obviously didn't fit the "customer" that you'll allow to eat there. Well guess what? This is the reason we came to Deming. Adobe Grill was a "must stop" place if in the area. We were warned that it didn't look very inviting, but to go ahead and venture in. Sure enough upon arriving, we had our reservations, not for dinner but reservations about even entering this place. Where's the entrance? Follow the sign. Is it open? Don't you see the sign on the gate? Dummy! What a curious, cozy restaurant. You walk in and on your left is the deli counter with lots of taxidermy animals ready to wait on us. Then into the dining area, with quite an impressive bar. There are more taxidermy animals throughout...on the walls, in display cases, etc. If you are offended by this, then don't go here. There is no place to avoid them. There is a 10' alligator in the middle of the dining area. You can sit right next to it if you'd like. Interesting place. Now on to the food. FRENCH ONION SOUP: Above average. The beef broth was hearty, but lacking any special uniqueness. Plenty of melted cheese atop the crock. FRIED ONION RINGS: Average. They onions were fairly sweet, the batter was crispy. Would have liked their own type of signature sauce to accompany it. FRENCH DIP SANDWICH: Large sandwich, plenty of good roast beef. The au jus was average. Both RB & au jus were also lacking anything special. PASTRAMI ON RYE: Very good. The pastrami was piled high on a nice pumpernickel/rye bread. The pastrami itself was great. I enjoyed picking up the pieces that fell out of the sandwich and just eating it plain. The bread was smeared with a very potent brown mustard. The mustard definitely had a bite to it and sometimes overwhelmed the sandwich. Lettuce and red onions also on sandwich. Our sandwiches with a side and a pickle were each $10.99. Pretty pricey for a so-so sandwich. 3" of meat does not make for a good sandwich, unless that meat is exceptional. I asked for a box to bring the other half of the large sandwich and leftover potato salad home. I was given a small square styrofoam container. Could barely hold the 1/2 sandwich. So potato salad and sandwich are joined for a new concoction at home. FRENCH FRIES: Below average. Typical frozen packaged fries. They could have been fried a little longer. They almost tasted like oven baked fries. POTATO SALAD: This was interesting. Very good. It had more of a sour cream base instead of mayo. Kind of refreshing. But this too seemed just to come out of a big tub. We arrived at 3:30pm. No one was there to seat us, so we just started looking around at all the animals for a while. Finally we saw a girl at the bar & we were then seated. The wait staff left much to be desired, not only in their service, but the way they were dressed. Both girls although, not really too overweight, both had bellies that could pass for a 4 or 5 month pregnancy. I can not judge since I am very overweight, but and this is a big but (yes, I have a big butt also), the girls were wearing skin tight shirts. We were the only 2 patrons in the restaurant when we ordered. Only two people and she couldn't remember which of us ordered what sandwich. Plus, she was ready to take away my 3/4 full soup because I moved it to the side. I moved it to the side, because my sandwich came and I had to make room for the plate! I told her I was still eating the soup. Looking at the website, we thought the menu was the same for lunch and dinner. But sadly, no. Only sandwiches were offered for lunch. Stopped in for lunch today based on a recommendation from a friend. This place is truly hidden treasure. It's pretty hard to find but google maps let us right to the place. The inside decor is pretty unique. Old signs, taxidermy, and antiques are everywhere. At lunch the entrees like steak are not served but there is a good list of hot and cold sandwiches. I got the sausage and pepper sandwich with onion rings. The rest of my party got a burger (huge) and bbq beef brisket sandwiches. All were absolutely delicious. We've been here several times and have not been disappointed. Order the ribeye as it's delicious! French Onion soup is good too. The atmosphere is unique. I read some reviews that said there were 'stuffed' animals but don't expect teddy bears. There are mounted 'trophies' indeed and a lot of interesting memorabilia. Bring your sense of humor, a good appetite and appreciation for a unique place that's not a 'chain'. The guy has gone over the top trying to make it unique and fun and interesting. It doesn't deserve to be slammed. It's 'out west' and hidden in the desert. A real find! A great wine list too. read more

OMG, what a trip this place is! Driving down this rural road, with very little around, we were leary! When we arrived and saw several cars, we knew it was a legit place. We had difficulty figuring out how to enter, when 2 people exited. The owner is definitely a collector and doesn't seem to throw anything out! There are many stuffed animals, fish, and antique items throughout the entire place. Check out the pictures. We ordered the hamburger and it was large, fat and juicy! It was outstanding! This place endorses TRUMP. If you are a Trumper you will like coming here. If not don't bother. I traveled from California to eat here. I was seated across a cardboard Trump 2020. I asked to be moved. Nonetheless, my appetite was ruined. The waitress moved my group and we finished our appetizer and drinks then left.
