Our story is similar to the many other 1 star reviews-we wish that we could give zero stars. We've had the system for 9 months - 3 smoke alarm batteries have failed, not a big deal. The BIG deal is that when you change an ADT smoke alarm battery, THE FIRE ALARM BLARES THE ENTIRE TIME THAT YOU ARE CHANGING THE SMOKE ALARM BATTERY. OMG, it's AWFUL! The 1st time, ADT said to call them before we change a battery so they can put it in TEST mode. OK, fine. Well, the 2nd time we needed to change a battery, we called them to put the system in TEST mode. They did. We started to change the battery and THE FIRE ALARM WENT BLARED AGAIN DURING THE ENTIRE PROCEDURE! I called them while it was blaring and they said that the fire alarm blaring while changing batteries is "standard". Wow, really???? They said that TEST mode is solely so that ADT doesn't alert the local fire/emergency departments. THE ALARM WILL STILL BLARE. No way to turn it off. OMG, we have over 4 more years of this nightmare or we pay for the remaining four years ($2,995 for the equipment + $2549 for the contract) to completely get ADT out of our lives. I wish I could give a big fat ZERO! I wasn't even upset when I called. I just called to cancel my service because I switched to another carrier. I feel my account was mishandled in the very beginning and never rectified. I had to fulfill the contract before I could leave. When I called to cancel, the person wouldn't cancel my account. She continued to try and "save" me. I told her I'm not savable, I switched! She continued to repeat herself and try to finish her script!!! WHAT!!! CANCEL ME! I would give zero stats if it was an option. I just had my system put in yesterday. already the door sensor doesn't work, and after asking for an outdoor camera to view a particular place of concern I was given an indoor camera facing out a window. At night the camera can only visualize the relation of light from the camera itself and during the day it does not capture the area of concern leading up to my house. I have now called ADT 3 times. I am being told the might can get someone out here next week!!! Next week? really? This is a safety issue the entire reason why I had to purchase a security system to begin with. It appears once they have your money they simply just don't care and then you are roped in to years of service. What will happen when they finally do come to fix the door alarm and put the camera I originally asked for will it be done and how much are you going to squeeze me for? I have had service issues since day one, & finally stopped paying for this garbage equipment, so ADT takes over $1500 out of my account, instead of the past due amount of $450, just 3 WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS! I am a disabled Veteran, & this could potentially cause me to lose everything in bankruptcy. Any company that would do something this rotten to a person, right before Christmas, should be called out for what they are, ROTTEN! I have yet to hear back from anybody at ADT concerning this issue, & have filed a dispute with my bank. ADT and Vivint are the worst security companys to do business with. When you call for sales rep, they answer instantly, but when you call to cancel, they will leave you on hold for literally 40 minutes. Additionally when you move, the equipment you "paid off and now own" apparently cannot be used by them again, as they consider it "part of the house now" so you are forced to get new equipment. Not only that, the equipment you paid off in your old house will no longer work on the security apps as they are removed once adt isn't monitoring them anymore. Do not use them, it's unfortunate how many people default to using them since they are a large company. As an update to an earlier review. ADT finally Reached out to me and informed me that judging by the damages to me home, they have no strayed away from their business rules. They had informed the better business bureau that the holes left in my wall were standard drill holes, judging by the photos, an uneven 6 + inch hole isn't standard, and retraining your technicians may benefit you. Update 3/23/21 - called in to cancel all services & guess what? My service contract had expired years ago but when I got the camera, the whole thing went back on a 5 year contract - pay off being $2500. What a racket!! So they took the monthly camera monitoring off for an $8 credit. So big of them! Beware! End of update. I bought an outdoor camera for my home 1/12/21. It cost $369 with $15 a month monitoring fee. It didn't work so they sent a tech 1/15/21. On 1/27/21, the camera wasn't working so I called in 1/30/21 to have it "re-booted" from their location. Since that time, I've called in several more times to have it "re-booted". Today, 3/22/21, the camera is not working so I called to have it removed. They told me I could not get money back if I did that. So, they're sending another tech out this week. This is crazy! I guess I'll just have a tech come out every time it goes out until someone does the right thing. I also have paid for their security system for 8 years & may cancel that. They use to be the only game in town but not anymore. I could get an entire system from SimpliSafe for the price of ADT's useless camera! read more

My experience with ADT Security has not provided me with a great deal of confidence in their service, or that they would actually provide the home security and medical emergency services that they claim to provide. They "mistakenly" actually cancelled my security service, then backtracked to claim that I had upgraded the service when I did not. Then they billed me twice "by mistake" once for almost $3,000 once and $700 a second time, when my payments are made automatically billed to my credit card and I have written proof that all payments were made in compliance with my ADT contract. All of this does not inspire confidence that I can depend on ADT for competent help in an actual home security or health emergency. Does anyone from ADT actually read these reviews? Is ADT going to wake up and provide the level of service they claim to? Does ADT actually care about anything besides taking your money from you? Do not ever trust this company! I got roped into a 3 year contract of which I cannot cancel or change without being charged 75% of my remaining balance, but in the final year of my contract I get a letter stating that my monthly rate is being raised. What???? I thought we had a 3 year contract that cannot be changed but YOU can just decide to change it whenever??? That's messed up! Also, the monthly rate is already twice what my neighbor pays with a local company. They also sent a salesman on the day of installation and tried to upsell me more than $2,000 of equipment. Cannot stand dishonest, deceitful companies such as this! Also, don't fall for the false advertising! The tech told me to call him first before I call the support service because they don't know how to help customer before he left. I text him the next day about what was going on. And when I called about the problem, they made an appointment for someone to contact me a few days later. I spoke to different rep. on another service call, I was told that there wasn't any notation about the complaint's I made earlier. I have called several times about something being wrong with the wiring the tech had put in. A support rep. said that I needed to get an electrician to come checked it out because the ADT tech are not electrician. I guess they don't know to be careful when they are going up in the attic. I have a crack in the ceiling. Smelled smoke in the house. It was the power strip the tech used to plug the camera into, it was burning. Since the first evening, I have been having problems. Started making loud noises like zapping, waves sound, dong and chiming. This was going off all night and day. It was very stressful. Felt like I was in some type of zapping/wave like box. I was up till 5 am due to the loud sounds. I asked the tech about this, and he said that he didn't know why or what it could be. Also, I told him that the driveway camera he put in was not working. He had to rewired it because he had wired it into wrong outlet. The cameras are always timing out and the camera color pixel is fuzzy and has a scramming like picture of colors across the screen. I am paying for a system that does not work. It has not provided the service according to ADT advertisement since day one. I have used this alarm systems for years. It was under Brink at first. That was in the 80's. Then ADT bought the company. The system that I was told that needed to replace by ADT, it was installed in 2008. The old equipment would be replaced free of charge. The additional cameras that I want, it will cost. I was told that the two control panels, one camera and the key fob had to be upgraded and that was a free service. When the tech came, he told me that I did not need a fob but if I still wanted one it will cost me $50.00. When I went back to check the list that evening. There was a $50.00 charge for the fob. I was told that they have to send my case to the regional supervisor and I should hear from them. That was around the Feb 8th. I have not heard from them. ADT gives you a lot of FREE stuff! It probably only cost them a few bucks. But hey, we love free don't we? After that they have you sign a (insert sarcasm) 65 year contract, which you of course do. We just moved out of state, I called ADT in April to cancel my service. The cancellation fee was about $800 or I could continue to pay my monthly bill until my contract was up in May 2018. I told them that was not okay with me. I asked to speak to a manager. But there was not a manager who could talk to me. I argued for some time and they finally said that they would cancel my account. I then told them to put in my notes that I wanted a manager to call me back, so that I could verify the cancellation. Well, let's just say that ADT is not top on my list of things in life to remember and no manager EVER called me back. ZERO stars for customer service. Fast forward to July 2017. I noticed a charge on my CC from ADT, so I looked into it. I have been charged every month since I called. My next phone call started out pleasant, but then it got nasty. I called ADT again, finally got a manager. She was a nice robot. Polite and apologized several times. But (and I do understand a contract is a contract) nothing was resolved. I'm still having to pay on a system that I no longer use until May 2018. Or I could transfer my ADT service to my new home. She was kidding right? I told her that there was no way I was using ADT ever again and that I would be giving no so good reviews on every site I could find. She did say that if the new tenants signed a contract with ADT, that I wouldn't have to pay anymore. I then said, "So if the new tenants go with another security company, which I hope that they do, I would still have to pay until May 2018?" She said yes. I heard such great things about ADT. So I decided to have them install their equipment in my home. The previous owner of our home had their system hooked up and running. And she turned it off two days prior to us having it turned on in our name. They come out and they only put in half of the equipment extras we ask for! Everything that they touched that was here previously; Quit working to include;the stuff that they added new which was two keypads and a doorbell camera; there was supposed to be a second camera at our front gate, and they never installed it, and they didn't even bring it! We were told by the first technician that he would be back tomorrow... to put it in. No call no show ; we wasted a whole day waiting for this guy to come back! We called the next day and we was told we have to reschedule because he didn't have the authorization to reschedule it; like he said he was going to! An this individual's name is Jose! He gave us his personal number supposedly called it several times he never answered he was here for eight hours the first day the second appointment he was here for 6 hours and couldn't get the system running so he said he was going to send his lead technician out the next morning because he just got promoted to be the supervisor. never heard from him no-show so we called the next day again needless to say; yesterday the lead technician came out he looks at the system he walks around and says this isn't our equipment; I've worked for this company for seven years and I've never seen this equipment he said we can't run but 10 cameras off of one of our systems and you've got way more than that he said if I touched your system I would only make it worse! So I'm going to tell the office to release your contract because we can't fix it. ..here's the corporate number let them know what my name is and number is if they have any questions to call me; I did this very thing this morning once again they returned me back to the local company the local company "defenders "said we will not release your contract will send the manager out and then he can say whether we will release your contract ;but oh by the way ...you will need another appointment and that's going to be another week! He said my first payment was going to be in November and that was a lie, they charged my account 2 days after he installed and they want me to pay again in 10days. Dealing. With this firm was one of the worst experience s of my life including the time a renter left a dead body in the bathtub set the house on fire and wanted their deposit back or the time I was on a plane and the engine was on fire! I had a service man come out after I made arrangements on the phone and he could have completed the alarm system that day and complete the camera's another day since he had to come back anyway! Then he did not show up on the day he had an appointment . I could not get ahold of him.SoI called the national call center and they told me I would still get the bundle with the cameras if I wanted to add them later. When the new service man came he wanted to change the plan and said I could not get the cameras for free later as was stated on the phone. When I would not agree to this bait and switch he stormed out and slammed the door very hard.God only knows what lies he told to cover himself but they will not install my alarm system. ADT is a huge joke!!! Me and my fiancé recently had their camera system installed at our house. After getting them we learned they do not record! You literally have to watch ADT app to check the camera and see what is going on. Called to complain they told us they was motion cameras, however the cameras would go 3-4 days without picking up any motion. We had family members ring the doorbell Camera to see if they would pick up that motion. It did not!!!!! When we called to find out what it would cost to break our contract with them they stated it was gonna cost $1090. Got the bill in the mail it's $3500 dollars!!!!! I got a alarm system from ADT early November 2019. Upon getting the alarm I told them I will be moving in December or early January. I called yesterday 12/16/19 for a service transfer and was told I needed to purchase a new alarm, even though I just paid $215 for one less than 30 days ago. They also told me in order to have service I needed to pay what I originally paid to get another tech out to my house... I asked why and they said it was my credit!! which is a bunch of BS because if that was the case I would of never gotten one. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was left on hold for over two hours with no one ever returning. I was robbed and called ADT for a alarm system and then ADT robbed me again. Why would I pay $215 dollars for a alarm and then turn around and pay the same thing after moving, had I been told that up front I would of just waited to get the alarm once I moved.. When the tech came out he did not drill any holes in my walls because I was moving he taped the cords down the side of my front door. And stuck two sensors above my front and back door ( which I removed myself) but they want to charge me another installation fee. They NEVER INSTALLED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE... their customer service sucks and they are very unprofessional and rude. I paid for 2 months of service up front and couldn't get anyone to help me. I will be calling back today to cancel my service.. I will never recommend this company to any friends or family. I was actually warned about them before even giving them my business and lets just say I should have listen to what I was told. CAUTION!! Although ADT website states 6 months no hassle refund guarantee, they utilize subcontractors. Everything the subcontractor has shows "ADT Authorized Dealer" so you think you are getting the same privileges as an ADT customer but you are not. The authorized dealer that came to our home has a 3-day cancellation policy or you pay 75% to cancel. So now I am stuck with a security system that costs more than what I was told it would and cannot cancel it for 3 years unless I want to just give them $1600. ADT does not stand behind their 'authorized dealers' We had an glass break 'tamper' error and received a robo-call saying it was detected. Not a live person at all- so if we were having problems, we would have been SOL. I called monitoring and they show this tamper 6 times in their system- not once did anyone call to ask if we were ok. Just to keep the alarm from beeping, we've had to override the glass break until they send somebody out to look at it- and we haven't had the system even a month yet. DO NOT USE ADT!!!! read more

I recently called ADT for a security system and it was a terrible experience! I was wanting to have security cameras installed and they said no problem and scheduled a tech/salesman to come out. They ran a credit check which dinged my credit and charged my credit card a hundred dollars which is really on me so my bad but it still pissed me off! Next they showed up and stated that they couldn't install outside cameras on my home which was the whole point to using they're service!! They will mislead you at every corner and install the cheapest equipment they can get away with. The installer will also tell you that you can cancel with in 30 days and it's really only 3 days. Do not get stuck like I did - I have been less than satisfied with the customer service that we have received. From being over charged for installation to being over charged on 3 months bills. We have called and been given the run around. Initially we were told that ADT billing was not responsible since their subcontractors Defender did the installation and contract. We were sent to the Defender customer service to fix it. They promised reimbursement for the installation, hasn't happened yet. ADT is a scam. They are like a thief in the night that claims to protect your home. Their response times are long. If your alarm goes off, you'll be lucky if they respond within 5 minutes. Customer support doesn't have a clue. Their contract is extremely long (3 years.) The contract is automatically renewed if you move. The agents and technicians will lie to you about the contract being renewed. Also, they will ask you to sign a document on their tablet. They will say this document only confirms that the work was complete. All you see on the tablet is a place for your signature. However, this document is actually 7 pages of screwing you over. The cancellation fees are outrageous (75% of the remaining contract). The cancellation fees are so bad, there is a class action lawsuit against ADT in California. read more

Chose adt because of the discount they give to veterans but was sadly mistaken about how bad they wanted me as a new customer. I paid a hefty deposit 450 for new smoke detectors and alarm panels. I was ok with that, until they came to my house after knowing I had a wireless system and tell me they can't work with a wireless system and if I want their service I have to dig up my yard and bury a conduit with their cable. No thanks, salesman said a wireless system is no problem, unhappy with the anything to make a sale dishonesty. It has been a disaster. Mislead numerous times. Came to do install and they knew exactly what I wanted. The tech didn't even have the outside cameras so they gave me inside cameras and told me 2 weeks til the outside cameras would come in. It's been a month and I still don't have any outside cameras. I set the inside cameras on the window seals. Can't see picture at night because of glare from the window. I was told there was a 99.00 installation fee and that they would give me a 100.00 gift card to reimburse me the install fee. Well, I have to wait 6-8 weeks to receive the gift card and I had to send in a 4.95 money order to get it!! Of course I wasn't told that at the time either. There is also a 300.00 install fee if you want cameras. They knew that I wanted cameras and was never told that til after the tech had already been at my house for 2 hours. ADT does not do their own work in Oklahoma City it is another dealer called defender that uses ADT for the monitoring only but advertises as ADT. I am locked in at 59.99 a month for 3 years and don't even have the equipment that I wanted. I have made near 25 phone calls to ADT and Defenders spent numerous hours on the phone.
