Buyer Beware! Bait & Switch experience! Called ADT to obtain information about changing from my current monitored system to an ADT system that could integrate my existing Google (Nest) products (cameras,doorbell, thermostat) with their alarm system. Salesperson Anthony was very helpful and answered my questions. I would told multiple times that my current IQ Panel would work with their systems only to learn from the installation tech that my panel would not work with their system and that I would need to purchase their panel and new window/door contacts!!! To the tune of over 2K. I called their customer service department and spoke with John who was for lack of a better word rude and extremely unprofessional. Even after speaking with a supervisor, I was left with a significant additional expense that would have factored into my decision. ADT refused to honor my contract. They were unwilling to make things fair and equitable. I cancelled my install and the service agreement. This was a complete waste of my time and I'm extremely disappointed that I wasted my valuable time this morning having to deal with this obvious bait and switch! ADT do better!! 8/2/18 Absolute bait & switch attempt to force customers with a three-year contract to PAY for updates and replacement of ADT owned alarm eqpt (repair of four cameras, etc.). My Contract ends on 10/30/18, and I will switch to an honest alarm company. BUYER BEWARE! After negotiating an equipment upgrade, I was informed it required a 3-year contract at $49.99 plus tax per month. Early cancellation demands that the remaining balance for the 3 years be paid in full, PLUS a *75%* PENALTY. So, if you cancel after 1 year, you owe ADT $1200.00 for the remaining 2 years plus an additional 75%, which I assume is only on the remaining balance, but, considering their other questionable tactics, could be on the entire contract. If only on the balance, that's another $900.00 which totals $2100.00 you owe ADT if you cancel after 1 year. Additionally, the high-pressure tactic was presented when I said I wouldn't agree to the outrageous penalty. The representative then told me "the price is valid for 24 hours and then it disappears". Whoa! This from a national service corporation? Considering my own experience and all of the other negative reviews here, I'm going to look elsewhere. read more

We are long time customers (20+ years). Unfortunately, since moving to a new house and getting a new setup, we've only been beset with problems dealing with ADT. When negotiating with the sales person, we were promised a certain price including Taxes. ADT did not uphold their promise and refused to refund us. Later, within our initial 90 days of service, we requested a piece of equipment removed (as it wasn't working well for us). We requested a refund for the equipment and kept getting the run-around. Somehow, no matter how many times I got transferred, I always ended up at the same beginning point having to reexplain the issue and re-request the refund. ADT is great at accepting money, but they are not great with their promises or refunding money. It's a broken process. read more

I wish I had read the reviews here before going with ADT. I called up ADT and i thought i am getting ADT technician. Now when i am following up, i am learning that it was not ADT but their reseller who did our job. Exactly like someone else mentioned, from seemingly 'free', i ended up paying close to $3000 for equipments. Its only a week and we are having issues but the technician is not responding ... Absolutely horrific experiences with this company - to the point we've already cancelled our contract and are STILL dealing with issues. Here is a summary of everything that has gone wrong: - We moved to a new residence in August 2019. As prior ADT customers, we signed a new 3-year agreement with ADT, purchasing an upgraded service with a bunch of high-end equipment. At that time, and by way signing a new agreement, we obviously intended to cancel service at our old residence. - Problems started early - equipment was failing constantly. We had techs over constantly to visit our home in the span of 6 months to fix equipment that was having faulty triggers (usually overnight). - We kept receiving calls from ADT (again, middle of the night) for alarms going off at our old address. We informed ADT MULTIPLE TIMES that we moved. Each time, ADT assured us that they updated the account, but we spent months thereafter receiving calls about the old address. - After our FOURTH attempt, it turns out the ADT representative cancelled our current address, so we lost service entirely. - Come to find out, ALL THE WHILE, we are being DOUBLE CHARGED by ADT. It appears they never cancelled the first contract. - By this point, we had had enough. We spoke with multiple ADT reps to voice our concerns, and ADT eventually agreed to let us out of our contract for $289, which we paid. We still had a balance on the contract of $264.24 from the double charging. We asked the representative to apply the credit owed to me for the overpayment BEFORE we closed out the account, but because it was after 5pm that day, she demanded that I had to call back the next day to collect that refund and that I must pay the $289 immediately if I wanted to agree to the compromised deal. So we obliged. - Relying on the information that our account was closed, we then signed a contract with a new security company. - Since cancelling, we've called back 6 times to get the $264 refund, and each representative and their managers agree it should be fixed, but it keeps getting denied by processing. The reason it keeps getting denied is because if they open the account back up to process it, supposedly the full contract cancellation balance would apply. I really wanted the representative to apply the refund BEFORE closing out the account, but we didn't because of her decision. Because of that decision, the ADT representatives at the call center and processing cannot fix this issue. - We then received an email today that not only was our request for refund denied, but that we owe ADT $1,605.01, which will be going to collections. I have NEVER experienced anything so ridiculous. How can ADT be trusted with home security when they can't even get billing and customer service right? This has been going on for months with no resolution. If this is wrongfully sent to collections, we will have no choice but to take legal action against ADT. read more

If you like giving away money for poor service and proprietary equipment (can't use with any other security system), then ADT is your answer. Finally done with my three year contact. Then had to wait on the phone for 30 minutes and cancel. They tried over six times to get me to sign another contact or not cancel with them. They even insulted me by saying that I am failing as a parent because I am not protecting my family. They asked me three times how I plan on protecting my home if I cancel Also, through out my three year contact they tried to charge more three different times and we had to call and be on hold for over 30 minutes to get them to bring the agreed price back down. We have had an ADT alarm service in our home for over 20 years that needed very little service but received good service when needed. BUT THAT HAS CHANGED! WHAT HAPPENED? IS IT UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT? OR NO MANAGMENT? I have called to schedule a service appointment multiple times and I always get a message that the wait time just to talk to a representative will be up to 30 minutes so I waited, and when the girl finally came online, she spoke such a broken English I could not understand her. I finally asked where was she calling from and she said she was in Costa Rica. Really, I could not understand her, so I finally hung up. What happened to giving Americans jobs? But they also boast if you go online, you can talk with a service rep within 10 minutes, so I tried that and it said I was number 31 in line to talk to the service representative. So I finally went back and call the number again and now it said there was going to be a 50 minute wait to talk to a representative. This is ridiculous. I still wasn't able to talk to anyone and my system is still broken This is UNACCEPTABLE! I don't call this service. read more

ADT representatives are absolutely misleading. They will mislead you until you purchase and then it's too late to get out of the contract. One the phone they will tell you all equipments are free and they will cover the entire first floor but once you start the process they only allow you to have a certain number of equipments which are not enough to cover the entire house and they want you to purchase extra. I was mislead by phone representative twice and in the future I would never use ADT again. It's a very frustrating experience. I hope all buyers be ware and talk it through carefully about exact what you need and if that will cost you extra. read more

We are purchasing a new home and these idiots say we need to re-qualify and they need to run our credit again...well my credit is where I need it to be, but if only they knew during the closing process this is strictly prohibited. Transparency aye? Well your installer tried to dupe us into equipment that we really did not need nor want, so that statement is a joke. I would have happily paid your ridiculous installation fee to move our service that we've already paid hundreds of dollars for. My main issue is that I was transferred 6 times and spoke to 6 different people who didn't know how to approach the situation. The last gem was the absolute icing on the cake to confirm our need to find another provider, she not only tried to scare us with a "$1300 disconnect fee", but left us on hold for what would have possibly been an hour. This was the letter I sent to ADT and that they received on 7/30/2018 as of 8/30/2018 I have not received a response: Your system was partially installed on April 17, 2018 and has never been completed even after 9 text to the installer and two phone calls to 800 689-9554 that were never returned. Clearly this is not as represented. Therefore I wish to cancel our agreement. Awful experience! The fact that nothing has been done after seeing the rest of these reviews is baffling. I moved in with 2 roommates for a short time and had the stipulation that we didnt want a contract. I called and was repeatedly told that there wouldn't be a contract and I could cancel anytime. When the installer came out I was told the exact same multiple times. Rushed me through the paperwork and here i am finding out the news of a 3 year contract. I tried to call to discuss and was argued with and dealt with a rude rep. ADT really should take more ownership over their 3rd parties and have an honest message from the start instead of misleading their customers. I will be filing with the Better Business Bureau. So dissatisfied with #ADT. I've been waiting over 2 months for them to refund me for the purchase of a inoperable camera that they removed from my home. They're slogan the home defenders is a joke. They're supposed to protect my family from criminals yet they're the one's who've been holding my $200+ hostage. I've called numerous times and was told in September to wait 30 days in October to wait 10 days Tuesday and Thursday this week I was told it would be resolved in 24 hrs and today I was told it would be another 10 business days. I know this wouldn't take this if I wasn't a minority. This is disgraceful period never mind around the holidays. This is the worst alarm company in the world, the advertisement says ADT and they answer as ADT until you have a problem and then they tell you they are a contractor and they installed the Ring Door 2, but if it doesn't work right you have to figure out why it won't work, Tech installed it on November 28th, couldn't get it to work, so he said would be back on December 1st, exactly 3 days to finish and get it working. You only have 3 days to cancel the contract without an early termination buyout on a 3 year contract and the early termination is $1,600.00 for something that doesn't work right, they said once the alarm is installed the Ring doesn't have to work because it is a 3rd party piece of equipment and they are not responsible to make sure it works right and therefore I have to pay the early termination. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General Office Consumer Protection division. This is absolutely terrible service read more

Each month I must dispute this charge as it says I tiny grey font on the five page contract, I must write a letter to them and my bank 10 before they elect to charge me again....without my permission. To start, let me say that I have been with ADT since I was a child. My parents had them, and when I looked for an alarm in my 20's, I didn't look any further than ADT. I am now 51, so after 30+ years of personal loyalty and over 50 years of family loyalty, it is kindof sad to write this review. ADT sent me a letter saying that my cell module had to be updated. So I called and scheduled them to come out yesterday between noon and 5. I told them it had to be closer to 12pm, since I had to leave at 5:30. I then asked about the Pulse system which included a camera and made arrangements to have a camera installed, as well as fixing a window sensor and motion detector. They informed me that my smoke detectors had to be changed out (at a total cost of $250, though I think they did not know just how many smoke detectors I have) to be compatible with Pulse, though did not explain much more about Pulse. The tech arrives at my home at 4:30pm. I ask if the work is going to be completed by 5:30 because I have to leave. The tech explains that since my entire system has to be changed out, no, he will not be done at 5:30. I was never told my entire system had to be changed out! I start fuming, and call a trusted friend over to babysit the house while the tech is working. Great. All set. Nope! First of all, the tech makes me sign a contract before he'll start on anything. The contract has not been explained to me, but I assume it has something to do with the extra $5 per month I'll be paying. Next, the tech starts talking about an indoor camera. Huh? Why would I want an indoor camera? By the time the camera goes off inside, you're already pretty much screwed, so no, I wanted an outdoor camera. With some scurrying to uncover a plug and some calls to hubby to see about connecting the camera to our wi-fi, that is finally settled. The tech then explains to me that he cannot install the new smoke detectors BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE BATTERY OPERATED SMOKE DETECTORS IN ALL OF THE ROOMS. What? Are you kidding me? How does this make ANY sense in anyone's reality? Why would I have battery operated smoke detectors installed in all of my rooms when I paid hundreds of dollars to have the ADT smoke detectors installed to begin with? I was never told about this ridiculous policy when I arranged the replacement of the smoke detectors! Then I tell him, fine, don't replace the smoke detectors, just fix the motion sensor and window sensor because I do not have time to go to Home Depot and buy and install the required smoke detectors which I don't really need. I explain to him that the motion sensor is setting off the alarm even though I have it turned off on the keypad for alarm use at night. He offers to move the motion sensor up a little. REALLY?! How the hell is that supposed to help? I tell him I am not that stupid and that I know the motion sensor going off when it is turned off on the keypad is not something that can be solved by moving the motion sensor up a little. Duh. I can't even believe he suggested that! Turns out, he cannot replace the motion detector because he doesn't have the parts. Then I ask him to fix the window sensor, and he tells me that he cannot fix it without replacing every window sensor in the house. This is actually not true. All he would have had to do was take the window sensor off of the window pane, spread on a little bit of silicon, and reposition it. By this time, it is 10 minutes before I have to leave, and still nothing has been done. Now I am downright furious and cursing at the inept tech. I call ADT, tell them everything that is going on and how my problem is not getting fixed, and they offer me a piddly 2 months of monitoring as recompense for my frustration and wasted time. Whoopee-shit. For all this frustration? For all the time wasted? Now I have rescheduled them and had to cancel clients in order to get this done. They have cost me time, money and probably an ulcer by the time all is said and done. Now I am about to call them yet again to make sure they have the parts to fix the existing equipment when they come back. That'll be a song and dance, I'm sure. In the meantime, I am shopping around for another alarm company, and will have to start over. Thanks ADT, for repaying more than 30 years of loyalty with this ineptitude. read more

Since purchasing 4 ADTsurveillance cameras and live video and recording service in September, I have had constant difficulty with the surveillance malfunctioning , both ADT live camera video and recordings of clips. The ADT cameras stop recording and also stop working live. They have been off more than they have been on, and I've made more than 10 calls to ADT to report this. I have complained about this to ADT customer service they do the same thing over and over expecting a different result which is to reboot the system, send out technicians to troubleshoot and fix the problem. And it continues to happen over and over. There have been two events that I wished to have captured on camera recordings, but the ADT cameras and recording system failed. ADT has a very ineffective camera surveillance and recording system. Per the technicians, my internet is fast enough, and clear up my memory space each time. they can't find anything wrong. I have also asked to get out of the contract because of the ADT's system's inefficiency. I have been refused to get out of my contract. I asked this prior to my 6 month money back guarantee.. A technician came out just 4 days ago AGAIN and deleted ALL my recordings for the sake of running out of recording space and 2 days later So, I still can not see out of 3 /4 cameras for live view and only ONE has an occasional recording. So as of now I am paying for services that aren't being rendered by ADT. I feel I'm being robbed and stolen from by force. ADT is unwilling to satisfy and resolve my complaint. They ask me to reach out and call in, I have , about 10 or more times...in the end, don't help and force me to keep in a contract... I'll apology but otherwise nothing is ever done differently. Isn't that the definition of insanity? To do the same thing over and over, expecting a different result? I have reached out to corporate and corporate has not returned my calls. I have escalated it several times, upper corporate department has never reached out to me to fix my problem or give me a refund. I have paid well over $1,000 for an ineffective system and pay monthly almost $60 a service that I am not receiving. ADT has not resolved this. And for this I give ADT a ZERO. read more

I have been an ADT customer for over 20 years. The sales reps have generally been great until my last experience. This rep is nothing but a fast talking used car salesman who lies and then uses another lie to cover his first lie. I moved, I couldn't take my equipment because , well you can't do that. I reestablished with ADT, used the same sales rep and boy did he do a number on me. The bottom line is when the customer service rep said the 734.00 fee ( the remaining balance on the equipment)would be waived since I reestablished and bought new equipment this guy hit the roof, he argued with her and said oh no, she ( me) owes that money. The rep argued right back and waived it. So this jerk says he is going to call his VP and has them take $734 out of my account on the autopay without my knowledge., this also after the customer service rep said she was disabling the autopay. I should not have believed either one of them. He said if they needed to take it out, after he looked into it, they would notify me first. Less than 24 hrs after that conversation that piece of work had that money taken out of my acct. I tried to call ADT corporate in SA but it goes right to customer service with the sales pitch recordings. I would love to say his name here but not sure of liability. This company is a rip off. They sold us a warranty on our camera's that would cover everything including vandalizing them. Our sales person Lisa Zilly lied about the coverage. It was only good for mechanical failures. Ms. Zilly also told us that the cameras we purchased would allow us to read license plates and name tags. WRONG! When we were robbed the camera's caught a fuzzy picture of the thief the police said was worthless. Stay away from this company!!!!!!! read more

The ADT that stole Christmas Twas a month before Christmas and my great security company called me to break some bad news! The owner stated that he decided to sell his business and wanted to let me know so that I can decide if I wanted to stay with the new owner or find another home security company. I thought about it for just for a short time and I let hm know that I will be looking for another company since the reason I stayed so many years with his company was due to his excellent customer service, quick response to alerts and more....so then I thought...hmmm who should I try. Since I wasn't familiar with many companies, I thought...I know I will go with a name that is recognized, advertised by my favorite twin real-estate/home make over brothers and touted as the best in the business. Boy was I excited especially since I just received a coupon from that company - ADT - and it stated that if I go with them, I will get a neat package, a $100 visa gift card and free installation - Wow! I was in and only a few weeks before Christmas! I called them on the telephone number provided with the coupon and don't you know they answered quickly. I was excited and yes, a little jolly! I began to let her know why I was contacting them, the reason for the sad departure from my previous home security company (I may have even had to stifle a little emotion...but I'm not sure...it could have just been what I just ate) and if she could help me obtain similar, or maybe even better service with ADT. She immediately began to tell me all about what I will get with ADT, what the coupon entitled me to and even if I was to consider upgrading to the $59.00 a month deal even more! Wow! Maybe there is a Santa Claus! When I began to ask a little more clarifying questions relating to the $59.00 a month package and the free installation and the door camera, she said she was going to get someone else one else on the phone that can answer my questions...I thought...wow...team work! They are awesome! He came on and assured of the coupon, the $100 visa card the $59.00 package and more...I was so excited that I was full of glee and maybe even laughed out loud while my stomach quivered like a bowl full of jelly. He immediately transferred me back to the other young lady that immediately took my information and scheduled me for installation on December 9, 2019 - wow that was quick and I was excited. Now here is a short synopsis that happened. Installed on the 9th of December but added more bells and whistles. December 10th and on nothing worked. I called and they said they were sending an ADT tech on the 14th of December between 10 am and 2 pm. December 14th ADT Tech called after 3:30 and said he was running late...for real! He arrived a few minutes before 4 when I was scheduled to be picked up to go somewhere. He asked if he can still come in for a few minutes so I let him. He ran to the box (literally), then went to the panel and said - I don't see anything wrong but I will have to get my equipment to check. My ride arrived so I told him I have to go. I called ADT and explained the problems I was having, the ADT technician that showed up hours late, and let him know that I received a form from another company asking me to fill it out, cut on the dotted line, attach the ADT contract and include a check for $4.95 shipping and handling so that I can get my $100 Visa Card! ADT said that they have nothing to do with any of that because it was a 3rd party contractor they sent to my house therefore I must work with them. ADT also stated that they will not credit my account, give me a Visa Card or even help me at all because...here is the kicker...my contract is not with them but with the 3rd party contractor that THEY SENT TO MY HOUSE TO INSTALL my NON-WORKING SERVICE! ADT make this right! MY service has not worked since the installation, you have not been able to fix it, I not have to pay $4.95 to get my FREE VISA CARD, and to add insult to injury I was told that if I wanted to cancel my service (since the 3 days grace period passed) I had to pay an additional $1,500! Please help this veteran trust in your companies integrity, honor and value! Call me please and make it right! read more

Absolutely atrocious! Please do NOT use ADT for your home security needs. Once they have you as a customer and locked into a contract, ADT no longer cares about you. They don't educate first time home buyers on the consequences of not registering your system with the local police department (I found this out the hard way when I received a $135 fine from the city for operating a home alarm system without the proper permit), won't reimburse you for the fine, will treat you like you are stupid for not knowing this and customer service will be been exceedingly rude every time you call. Not only this, but if you sign a contract and want to get out early due to their poor service, they charge you 75% of the remaining balance. And you can forget about them giving you a heads up as to when they are going to charge you for services...it will just very pleasantly and unexpectedly show up on your account. They will come to your house and sweet talk you, I remember asking how long the contract was before signing and he said one year, I SHOULD have had him point it out in the contract because a year at three month later I tried to canceled just to realize it was a three year contract and I would have to pay over $800 to cancel. RIDICULOUS. Not to mention they are stupidly over priced. I understand I should read EVERY word of a contract I sign but of course it was in the middle of the fine print paragraph. THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. So now we are stuck over paying for something we really can't afford with a company I now LOATHE. I only wish someone would have warned me. Buyer Please Beware.........I signed up for ADT 3 years ago and wrote a review about that experience which was a nightmare where when you call and negotiate your service at one price they come in and install a totally different set up at twice the price without telling you and have you sign one set of papers then transcribe your signature to documents you never got to see. They also start drilling holes before you sign any documents which was the 1st sign they don't operate in good faith. Now on Sept 2 I call to cancel after my contract is up they make it as difficult as possible but after 10 minute of tell this man there's nothing he can say or do that would change he finally start the process and at the end tells me it will take effect 1 month from that Sept 2. On Nov 26 I get a call from ADT saying my system is down and I tell the person I disconnected it because I didn't renew the contract and the person said it was still active and told me to call Account Management which I did the following day. They tell me they have no record of my call but they will cancel me effective Dec 27 to which I said it will be effective Oct 3 and I will spend every free moment telling anyone who will listen my story. As it stands I'm currently seeking every site that does reviews and telling my story about there deceptive practices. Can someone tell me how can they have a A+ rating on WWW.BBB.ORG. read more
