The way they handle tech issues will be their downfall. It is way too difficult to speak to a competent person than it needs to be. I had a simple technical problem that required simply replacing my smoke/co detector and linking the new one to my system but it required 5 different times to schedule a call with a tech person. If you have any problems you can't contact someone that knows how to handle problems you speak with an offsite customer service assistant you has no technical ability can only schedule calls for another time sometimes a week out with a tech specialist. Buyer Beware. Had ADT for numerous years. Updated my system to cellular and was told I could put the system on hold as we were planning a renovation. Once the renovation started I informed ADT, but was continuously billed. Every month I called and they issued credits, but continued to bill me. I really questioned the emails stating that my service was fully functional. Found that funny as I now had no walls, electricity or equipment. They tried to make a deal by offering me all new equipment to stay with them It has been quite for about 9 months and now I am receiving call from the collection agency again. This service is dreadful. I have particularly had very bad experience in the past week. FIRST ISSUE: I tried to resolve my technical support through over the internet and through phone with Tricia, but to no avail. Phone tech support advised me she would have someone come over and help. Only after asking, she said there would be a $59 onsite tech fee, (she said as a courtesy, this would be waived). The tech was scheduled to be here this morning btn 8AM - 12N; however, between last Friday and earlier this morning, NOTHING. I finally got a call from Ben, saying he was 15 mins away. This was when I found out for the first time there would be a service/labor fee of $184 per 30 minutes of time spent. I imagine if it takes him longer than 30 minutes, I will be charged $368. I cannot afford this. I can barely afford the services as the prices have gone up since. SECOND ISSUE: Whenever I call to discuss service, I am connected to a series of automated computer voices before I can speak to a live person. When I finally get a live person, their system is so compartmentalized, no one person is able to talk with me. They keep transferring me to others for me to either hold or cut me short of our conversation. The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. THIRD ISSUE: Although I have a contractual agreement to pay a monthly fee of $54.99, my bill has increased to $59.99. The explanation, (paraphrase)"Because it was time since I had been receiving services for over a year". There are several other discrepancies on my bill I am unable to go into at this time. FORTH ISSUE: I want to cancel my contract with them as I'm not receiving the services I'm paying for; unfortunately, I feel like I'm being held hostage right now to have to pay for something I cannot afford that in all intents and purposes am not getting anyway. Attentive and responsive sales rep when I made my system purchase four months ago, but the experience deteriorated after that point. Installation not done properly, with failed equipment and multiple follow-up visits. Secondary IQ panel failed twice and had to be replaced. Audible siren setting on IQ panel was disengaged during install, and never reactivated. ADT was completely unaware and it required a call from me to ask them to activate the feature - which can be done only at their central location. A customer spending thousands of dollars on a security system should be given an in-person orientation of their control panel(s). Zippo on this point also. Good thing I'm technically skilled. A promised refund for the poor install job and accompanying headaches.... took a month to secure. Sad thing is... I like my system... but ADT's install and service techs are not at the level they need to be. And their customer care reps who try to communicate with a customer by email and phone... are equally lacking in an understanding of the customer's account. As of this writing, my main IQ panel has now failed and is completely blank. ADT charged $59 to come out and diagnose the issue. I was instructed to contact my electrician to ensure proper voltage to the outlet powering the transformer. I've done that...resulting in an additional expense to me. And now waiting for ADT to return and get the IQ panel working again. New alarm system, just over four months old, and I am without service again... This time over two weeks. My follow-up appointment was scheduled for today... I moved everything off my calendar to be available, and....thirty minutes before the technician was to be here, ADT calls me and cancels. No one can come for another week.... No priority service for new systems. Too many customers, and not enough technicians and phone reps. Too many disappointments. I've been an ADT customer for 30 years... whatever they've done to this company needs to be reconsidered. I'm glad I originally negotiated a partial refund on this job. This review is about my sales rep, installation, contract and fees. Lets start: First my sales rep Sindiso Mpofu arrives 2 hours late for initial consultation. I still accepted the offer for the black Friday sale. Installation: The installation took 6 hours for 2 outdoor cameras and 7 window senors. Contract and Billing: My sales rep stated i would not have to pay installation fees. Guess what I was charged! Secondly he stated my monthly bill at one price, however the new contract at the day of installation is another price. THEN he followed stating he will have the new contract to me on Monday (installation was on a Saturday) Nothing all week, I call him on Friday he promises to bring new contract on Saturday, he never showed stating he got busy. Then he said he would drop it off on Sunday, again nothing! now he's not answering the phone and headed out of town Monday morning. Ive finally called the main corporate and waiting on the local branch in Springfield VA to follow up. As far as initial installations I do not have any comments, other than very high cost, but for any follow up technical problems or services, I can comment: Very poor service, the contracted technicians are very rude and unprofessional! The scheduling center, makes lots mistakes, the waiting window is too long, one has to stay home all day I order yo get a job done, you are lucky to get a complete service in the first visit, they make you re-schedule for the remaining of the job. Constantly having issues with our system and our lock we bought no longer works only after 8 months of having it. Sensors won't go off all the time when doors are opened which kind of defeats the purpose of even having the service. My husband has tried repeatedly to get the lock that's still under factory warranty fixed and they refuse to without charging us $60. AVOID. I've used ADT at multiple properties for years. my latest contract is ending with them in a matter of months/days. I am counting down the days. FIRST OF ALL, avoid any company that locks you into a contract. ADT locks you into a 3 year contract. Right now there are MANY competitors that have no contract situations. I had several bad situations while with ADT, including being broken into and the local alarm went off but it did not notify us on the app NOR the police. ADT did nothing and had no explanation. And they had very little to no incentive to address the problem (possibly because I was locked into this contract). I have had ADT for 7 years. I have never had to call for service until recently. Of course this happened just after I renewed for 2 years. The first service appointment, the technician was 5 hours late. When I was calling to find out where he is, the customer service rep told me that I should expect to wait many hours for a service appointment because that is just how it is. Can you believe that? The technician was new to the company and was very professional but did not have the parts needed to complete the repair. I get scheduled several weeks out for another appointment. I was told it was the first appointment of the day and that is verified in my online account. Well, he doesn't show. I called customer service and was put on hold and the woman never came back. I called again and was told that he was stuck at his first job. I was supposed to be the first job. She said yes you were with a differenct technician but he didn't come to work today. So now I have to wait for several hours until this technician is supposedly getting here. What scares me about this is what if I have a real emergency? Do they actually respond? Look elsewhere for security services because ADT does not care about your business. read more

Our residence in Great Falls, VA was destroyed by a fire in late June 2019. The system was installed in late 2000 by the original owners and we continued the ADT monitoring service and maintenance when we purchased the home and system in 2004. We were assured by the ADT Security System LLC representatives, who installed the alarm system, our system was excellent and required no upgrades. During their infrequent visits to repair defective sensor zones, they provided repeated assurances and did not suggest any upgrades. They did not suggest installation of heat sensors in the garage or kitchen as recommend by Fairfax County Fire Department, which would have detected the fire that broke out in an electric socket in the wall that adjoins the garage and kitchen vanity. They did not visit annually to physically check the alarm system as reportedly required by Fairfax County code. The single ADT smoke detector was in the main hallway of our house (no ADT smoke sensors on the other three levels), about thirty feet from where the fire originated. I detected smoke billowing from beneath the garage door at 9 PM from the master bathroom window on the second floor. Telephone records provided by ADT indicated they received the smoke alarm warning at 9:17:48 PM, estimated to be 45 - 60 min after the fire started. ADT Central Monitoring Center contacted the Fairfax County Police/Fire Center at 9:19:30 PM. The ADT panic button I pushed at 9 PM to alert ADT failed to work (the land line telephone was operating). My spouse and I watched the fire destroy our house from an ambulance while fire fighters from multiple county fire departments attempted to extinguish the fire. Copies of the installation contract and the monitoring service contract were destroyed in the fire. ADT Inc. nor its subsidiary, ADT Security Systems LLC, Springfield, VA, would not provide copies of the contracts, likely because of their concern to avoid a lawsuit. My letter of complaint to the ADT President, Mr. James DeVries, was also ignored. Although our insurance company paid for the loss of the house and a portion of the personal property, the latter coverage was insufficient to cover the total loss of personal property. I view the ADT television commercials as very deceptive, conveying a false sense of security to prospective clients. My best advice is for prospective clients to avoid ADT Inc. and its subsidiary, ADT LLC (dba ADT Security Systems LLC), at all costs and obtain services from more reputable companies that provide fire and burglary systems and monitoring services. read more

It is going going on 5 hours now. We have had ADT for a long while now. Had issues on and off but this is the worst. Our panels are going off every 20 seconds with loud constant high pitched noise. And we have done everything adt has suggested. Nothing is working and they have disconnected from us repeatedly as we try to fix this-and also not called us back-we keep needing to call them when They disconnect. We have 3 teleworkers in the house and many animals, plus very noise sensitive individuals (migraines). Nothing, so far, has been done to truly help us disconnect. At this point we will need to stay in a hotel. Very irritated. And still no real adt answers and no real urgency on their part at all. The current estimate is 4 days from now for a tech to get here. Will be canceling adt at this point. It is literally mind-killing. Work meetings are needing to be canceled and those who are sensitive to sound and get migraines from them, are getting them. It took him 45 minutes inside my home during a pandemic to complete the service. Magically he finished just at 5 pm?!!! He had gloves in his truck that I saw but didn't wear them. I don't know who I just spoke to but they have horrible customer service! Just moved into a new house and was calling other home security companies to compare prices. But the guy at ADT gave me no information about their plans and insisted I have someone come to the house. I said I did not want to waste anyone's time and have them come out for no reason... We have been ADT customers for about 10 years - We recently had some trouble with a sensor and key pad and when I called the 800 number the woman on the phone talked me through the problem and scheduled an appointment wit a tech just two days later. So, I called ADT to inquire about their home security systems. The representative was very courteous and explained what they can provide base on my requirements. Later during the conversation he asked my for my full name , DOB and last 4 of my SSN. He explained that he needed the information in order to run a "soft" credit check and determine what plans I qualified for. I told the rep that I wasn't comfortable giving this this information at this point , let alone running a credit check for a service that I was just trying to get familiarized to see if it meets my needs. Next, he said that a tech can be at my house the same day to discuss the available plans and equipment needed to be installed on my property. It sounded like the right approach at first, but then he asked me to provide with my credit card information to cover the installation. I was contacted buff ADT to have a new security system installed..lady was very nice and said it would only be $27.99 a month...with $104 charge for installation/equipment. The guy came and tried his BEST to sell me more expensive equipment...I explained, but I was still pushed to buy up...I did NOT...he left after installation, and I found out I had two different keypads..one at front door, a different one at garage door...I called, 45 minutes later, they said they could get someone out here in a week...he had only been gone 1 hour...so I have to take another day and get this straightened out..and then my credit card is charged another $88.45 on top of the $104.94 I knew about..I called...20 minutes later, I was told OH THEY OVER CHARGED ME..they had me down as a $49.14 a month...NO $27.99...so another screw up...now she told me that I would have an adjustment in 7-10 days on my credit card...why 10 days when they did the screw up...I just do NOT trust ADT...feel very bad about having it installed, and what more can go wrong..OH..they smoke detector kept beeping (brand new) needed new batteries...HONESTLY, what is up..I thought they were the best..but now I would not recommend them to any of my friends or neighbors, and will make sure they know what I have gone through. Just feel like they are trying to ambush me to buy up...and how safe I will be...so I am NOT safe with the one that was promised...and now they are charging me $49.14 a month instead of $27.99...their mistake...what if I had not caught this.
