Adding two more stars but there's a quick story behind the change. I again called the offshore call center--who admitted they had no way to transfer me to a supervisor "in the States" so I asked for corporate headquarters phone number. Of course I was given the wrong number which was also the wrong state. A quick search gave me the actual corporate headquarters office in Florida. Called the phone and got myself in the right queue. The call was answered by lady in help center support--customer relations. What does it say about any U.S. based company that they only way to get real customer service IS TO CALL THE US-BASED CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT? A very sad commentary on how low these companies place quality customer service below profits. But the lady did expedite the return of the long lost install tech who finished the job the following week. And thanks to her I got a call from an extremely friendly and helpful tech support guy named Anthony who walked me through the basic features and use of our new security system even though we were over an hour on the phone. Anthony requested that I fill out the survey on him which I'd get after our phone call. Still waiting, Anthony. I mentioned the missing survey to customer relations lady and got no response. But she did make two follow up calls to verify that both tech support and the equipment install had been done. That was nice. So if you're reading this review, Anthony, I'd give ADT five stars if all its customer service staff provided your high caliber of service and were all worked out of offices located onshore. read more

STAY AWAY FROM ADT AT ALL COSTS!!!! STOLE $5,000 FROM MY 80-YEAR-OLD MOTHER. Four weeks ago, I decided to have a security system installed on my mother's house, she is 80 years old. I called ADT and told them that all I wanted was sensors and cameras installed on the front and back doors. I was quoted over the phone that this job would come in around $200 plus monthly monitoring fees. I agree and set a date for install. I could not be there for the install. The installer (ADT Tech) ended up installing motion detectors, perimeter cameras, fire alarms, window sensors (installed on windows that don't open, and you can't even get too) and charged my mom $5,000+. During the install my mom told the tech that she didn't believe her son ordered all of this and that she didn't want all of this. The tech told her oh no this is what you son ordered, and this is what you need. Which was a flat lie! For the last 4 weeks I have been calling ADT to get this corrected and my mom's money refunded to her. I have called twice a week for 4 straight weeks. Each time being told that somebody who could help me would return my call. Finally, I drive to ADT Tacoma off of north 9th street. I was told there by Brad Wheeler (General Manager of Operations for the Pacific Northwest) that he couldn't do anything for me. Really? He proceeded to tell me I needed to contact Nick Gayman a 3rd party installer as he was in charge and who I needed to talk too. I spoke with Nick, and he said I needed to speak with account management to get this fixed, which is who I spoke with already twice a week for the last few weeks. I have never been given the run around so much in my life. I even told them I would keep the equipment I ordered and continue the monthly monitoring service. I just wanted them to do what was right and remove the equipment I didn't order and refund my mom her $4,800+. But apparently nobody at ADT is capable of making the situation right. I am sure this isn't the first time this has happened and wont me the last. I will continue to make this right and won't be going away. Next stop BBB. read more

Shame on ADT Our protection one system was bought out by ADT. Our system was turned off so, they said they would need to send a technician to our home to turn it back on. Equipment was not turned on and line was cut. Tech or really sales person, told us it was an old system, impressing on that fact for hours And, ended up putting in an outrageous way over price system, that we had problems with before he left, that were just brushed off. It was going on 7p m. I called within the large purchase protection period and told them we didn't want their system and two days later a representative called and told us the system would be taken out. They sent out someone who was not authorized to remove anything and he told us we were over sold and system was not installed with labels and false information was given to us. Plus, we didn't receive any copy of paperwork until I called and asked for it a week later. Since then, we have called every week, to ask why we havent received a call to set up an appointment to remove the outrageous system that a technician sold us, after being in our home for 6 and a half hours. Representatives keep saying someone will contact us in 5 to 7 days. A week ago there representative told us again we would be called every day by her to give us an update, until area supervisor called. Two days later they were both out of office. Today, going on 4 weeks, we were told the ticket was closed and nothing was scheduled. they also said one of are contacts has an x by their name, so they couldn't get information from them, so we asked do they still work there and were told they don't know. Equipment cost was way over $6000. Seniors or not, no one should be pressured and lied to. Shame on ADT read more

With every fiber in my body I would NEVER recommend ADT service to anyone. Not even my worse enemy. They train their staff to lie, manipulate and get people in contracts. My equipment NEVER worked and we have warranty on our equipment and they will not fix it. If we want out of our contract we have to pay 1K and stuck with the equipment that we purchased that does not work. The do not even deserve 1 star and it should be illegal for a business to work with this type of business ethic. If I could afford a lawyer to sue I would use my life savings just to save others from being trapped in this terrible service. read more

Sadly I've been with this company for 9 years. Today paid 1400. For some additional cameras. Tech wasn't able to get them in at one per hour. After 3 hours, tech was called off the job by Sam Lee. Sam Lee didn't care that we have holes in our house! Tech left with holes in our attic, days off work. After ADT wanting to come out and rebid the house for a 3rd time. THIRD TIME! COME ON 3 times! First they sent a derive guy, he didn't know why he was here. Then an over the phone bidder. Wow! All under Sam Lees direction, he shows NO management, or customer service skills. Why Sam has a job is a million dollar question..... I want my 1400$ back for a Failed install that left my attic looking like Swiss cheese. After m9 years I left ADT! There's no such thing as customer service here. If this "Sam Lee" was an actual manager / he's rude, loud, interrupting. Sam & the cheap "problem ridden Google cameras" - we left. I've been pricing adding a cell radio to an existing system. I've chatted or called ADT four times. Quotes range from $99 to $315. The prices change each interaction, and when I explain I just want a constant price and for them to beat Ring, I get, "you get what you pay for". How incredibly SKETCHY. I would not even give ADT one star if I could fill out the review with no stars. I started with ADT in June of 2016 with my ex husband. After my divorce I tried to get his name off of ADT and have it in just my name. After several attempts I was told the only way to get this on my name off was to start a new plan and then I was told none of the equipment we had gotten was supported. That was just 4 years. I had no choice but to get the service changed and get new equipment. I just sold my house after having ADT for 5 years. I called and asked what I owed. I was asked if I wanted to transfer the service. Living in a secure building I don't need it. She told me my final payment would be $1,131. That's a lot. But I thought well just pay it off. So I thought all was paid off. I also changed my mailing address during this call. I just received a bill that was mailed to the old address and forwarded, not to the address I gave the agent when I cancelled. A bill for an additional $1825. Because I cancelled early. I got numerous calls when my house went up for sale wanting to have me move my service. During one of the calls I was even told when I buy a house again they could "just continue my service." So I called to discuss this with a customer service agent. Anna. With zero compassion she just repeated why I owed it. Offered to resend me the contract. When I asked to speak to someone else, she said there is no one else to talk to. Seriously, I was in customer service for over 30 years. There is someone else to speak to and there should be someone reasonable!!! She then told me "the only way to WAVE the fee ($1825) is to start service where I live now." So it it can be waved, but only if I spend more money. I am appalled that I was forced to start new service to get my ex off of the plan, and more appalled that I called specifically to get the pay off amount and was not informed properly of the other $1825. They also lied to me about their fire alarm not having false alarms. Three in one day, one from steam from the shower, one from cooking (frying a burger on the stove) and one from my roommates vape in his room. Welp, guess your fucking installer lied to me about no false alarms and only going off at a certain type of smoke! After nearly 40 years of having ADT monitor a system my parents paid for outright they wanted it cancelled. What a nightmare! First my sister tries to do it only to get so frustrated she gives up. I create an online account only to find there's no option to cancel from this account. Even when I search "cancel" in the help section nothing comes up! Imagine that! So I call and the first hold time is over an hour only to be told I have to talk with the cancel service department! What? Long hold time for "cancel service department" and get person that's difficult to understand and tons of background noise. I tell him I want to cancel monitoring service he says he needs to put me on hold so he can see what he can do for me! He comes back and says he can't do it and I he will transfer me to that department. Unbelievable! After the transfer the expected wait time is 56 minutes with no option for a call back. I gave up! I signed up for ADT five months ago and then sold my house. Because of a five-year contract, which was never explained to me by the sales agent, the company is now stating I owe them $2,500 in order to close the service...in a house I no longer live in. They stated the equipment charge is $700, which I could understand paying for, but what is the remaining balance for? They charge you an absurd amount without anything to show for it. When speaking to customer service for over an hour, and learning they WILL NOT transfer you to a manager OR help out in any way, the only option I had was to change to a different service. It was never explained to me within that hour WHY I was being charged the $2,500. The agent only stated that it was for the 'monitoring' charge...but if there is no service, who is monitoring? Basically, the charge is a gigantic SCREW YOU to any customer foolish enough to sign up for ADT. Anyone, please, DO NOT SIGN UP WITH ADT!!!!! The contract wasn't even signed by me, it was my 72-year-old mother the tech had sign. My mother, by the way, is legally blind. If you're on this Yelp page or ANY other consumer review page, you can quickly find an answer to your question - STAY AWAY FROM ADT! They have 1-star reviews for good reason! Terrible customer service, faulty products, and you, your time and money will not be respected! The sales rep we worked with was unstable, yelled at us, lied to us and interfered with the techs doing their job. The management ignored us after weeks of calling trying to resolve a service issue. Like other reviewers, we were lied to/told conflicting information so that our cancellation was delayed (we only had the service for a month because it didn't work). Only after I filed a complaint with BBB and AG of WA was I able to get an traction from this company toward giving me my money back for a faulty system. They required us to have FOUR techs come out, wasting our time off of work - and weeks went by without replies to phone calls from management. One person said we had our account cancelled, another said it was active. No one had their story straight. For what it's worth, the techs (ALL FOUR) were amazing, kind, patient and did their best. The brunt of the issues with ADT fall on the sales reps trying to force you to stay in a contract, a cheaply made prodouct, and management/supervisors completely dodging all conflict by ignoring consumer concerns. I highly suggest you go with Ring, Simplisafe, Amazon, a big dog that barks, literally anything other than ADT. read more

I would give them 0 if I could. Customer for several years but when I moved was charged more than the contract stated. Said I could still access from my phone for no additional charge but then made me call 4 additional times to tell me there will be an extra install fee for something already installed, and an extra monthly fee for the item I was promised wouldn't cost more. When I wanted to grieve that on a weekend so I wouldn't waste more work time, was told you can't do that on the weekend but of course you can sign up or add items on a weekend. read more

They charged me an additional $44 or $47 dollars to add the exterior camera system. The total per month with taxes was about $92. I had completed my contract. After Covid and the need to reduce bills I requested to cancel exterior cameras but keep the alarm system. I went through three people, was treated poorly and offered an $8 reduction. An ADT representative stopped by my home shorty after I purchased it. Between the sweet sales girl and the charming, fast-talking installer, I fell for the pitch. ADT has made it difficult for me to communicate with them at every turn. The installer set up my app and gave me no notes on the password now did he spend more than 5 seconds to show me how to use it. Then I lost my phone and was locked out on my new device. I couldn't get answers on their website. I would request a link to reset the password and they never came. When I finally wanted to talk to someone to cancel, they wouldn't talk to me because I couldn't remember my verbal password. I just got through and talked to someone after waiting almost 2 weeks for the letter with my password in it to arrive. I was given a different number to call and basically told their wait time is usually around 30 minutes and it is best to call at the end of the day to get a shorter time. I have never worked with a company that made it more difficult to communicate to them. I was upsold during the installation. It was a waste of money from the beginning. I cannot recommend ADT to ANYONE. BUYER BEWARE. I wish I had been smarter. read more

I'd rate them at a 0 ! we had ADT at our previous home that we sold and when we moved we cancelled the service. We then got a bill showing a $97 credit which should have been mailed to us, 8 months later I'm still waiting for the refund. Poor security camera coverage with inadequate distance pick up of less than 25 feet, no low light enhancement, delayed notification.

ADT salesperson promised our contact would be for 18 months. I had been locked into longer ADT contacts before so I verbally confirmed with salesperson multiple times, contract was for 18 months. Salesperson came by a few days later to sign contract and did not allow me to read before I signed contract but he verbally confirmed again contact was for 18 months. Of course contract was for 3 years! I called ADT multiple times and they said I was out of luck and have a 3 year contract. Our alarm went off multiple times and the police were called without ADT informing us. Our local police threatened to charge us for false notification if it happened again. Go for a cheaper, non-contact security company like Ring. read more

Totally unreliable & horrible customer service! They were supposed to come out & install the alarm a few weeks ago. First appt got canceled by them & we rescheduled. Second appt, they came out, but the alarm didn't work properly so we had to reschedule. The third appt got canceled by them again & they never called to let me know. BUYER BEWARE: the "early" cancellation fee is HUGE. ADT isn't transparent when communicating contract requirements. If you need to end a contract early, you pay 75% of the contract balance. I cancelled my system 3 years early because I was relocating. I moved to an apartment building with keyed access. I was charged $1,200 for the cancellation!!! Please watch out! I canceled my ADT service in July of 2018 . . . they continued to bill me. In Sept. 2020 they finally refunded me. It's now Novemeber 2020 and they have sent me to collections because my bank declined their attempts to collect. Do not let them automatic withdrawal payments. I really wish there was a "no star" option here! Never been treated so badly in my life. Just spent a full non paid day at home waiting for somebody to show up to install my new system, finally picked up the phone to inquire of his ETA, and was told he was not going to make it. Great. I could not reschedule, because, yes I do work myself, (but my time is apparently not as important as theirs....) I asked to cancel my subscription. The lady on the phone put me on hold 3 times (might have been 4, but who's counting!), and finally assured me it would be fine, no charges would be due. I was good to go. The end. Well, after receiving a bill of $474.78 a week later, here I am again, calling ADT to ask what this was about. Another lady on the phone pretty much accused me of perfectly knowing I was indeed under contract Verbatim "at the end of the day you knew you were under contract"! Apparently, none of these people know what they're talking about. Better yet, their customer service is so poor, they have no other options than to insult you. (And I was for once very calm and collected mind you...) I am soooo disappointed and mad at this company who wants you to think they will protect you! While the installation guy cannot seem to find his way to our house in a 5 hours time period! ADT is the biggest joke there is! Do yourself a huge favor and skip the headaches and the disrespect. Life is too short, go with a company who treats you like you matter, like they really care. ADT systems are complete junk. I've had the system for 2 months and had 7 service calls out here on top of countless hours on the phone. The cameras do not record and have many attempts to fix it. The ADT reviews are horrific enough that I don't even need to contribute, but they're so bad that it's worth bringing their average star rating down as far as possible. Terrible customer service & downright argumentative. This company clearly knows that their business model is outdated & that it's only a matter of time before they're phased out & bankrupt, so they do not care how many customers they push away in the meantime. If I could give anything lower I would. This company does not care about its customers. I have had nothing but trouble with them from the start and when I went to cancel my service 6 months before the contract ends they told me I have to pay the 75% buy out to cancel early. I called and talked to account services and after 40 minutes on hold the person didn't help and said that all the supervisors lines were down then hung up on me. The next day I called and again was on hold for 40 minutes before finally getting a account person on the phone. I told them about my dissatisfaction and asked to cancel with out having to pay the 75% buy out. They said it was a contract and there is nothing I could do. I asked to speak to a manager. They said they were one and persisted to tell me that I will need a tech come out to determine the system doesn't work in order for them to release me from the contract without paying. I reluctantly said fine. After the tech did their inspection they determined everything was fine but the doorbell camera through it was structurally sound wasn't triggering like it was supposed to. So I called account services back and again on hold another 40 minutes before I got ahold of anyone. I explained what happened and the rep said that they have to come out and try to fix as problem 3 times before I could be released from the contract. I told them what I was told my the manager. The rep put me on hold saying they will look into this. After 15 minutes a different person got on the phone. I explained what was going on and my frustration. They said that the first manager I spoke to wasn't a manager but a supervisor and they gave me incorrect information. I explained I wanted out of the contract and they told Me based on the techs notes they can't and explained that they could only do it if a tech can't fix a problem after 3 times. After 3 calls over 2 hours on the phone and a tech visit the manager offered 50 percent off my service till the contract ended. I asked to speak to someone higher. They explained that anyone higher only can be contacted through letter correspondence. I told them I am not jumping through anymore hoops and explained that the discount and the waived technician fee was more then if they just let me cancel without paying the buy out. The manager again offered the 50 percent off. I ended up taking the discount due to not wanting to spend anymore of my free time with a company that rather upset a customer more then take care of them. I will forever tell any and everyone not to go with ADT for the rest of my days or until they finally go bankrupt. read more

I recently bought my first home and received an ADT offer in the mail. I quickly signed up and had it installed for a heavy price, however that night a couple of sensors started going off erroneously. I went online and read the reviews and nearly all were 1 star. Given my contract could be terminated within 3 days without penalty, I decided to cancel the contract given not wanting to go into 3 years of service with them. They scheduled an appointment to pick up their equipment though they didn't show. The contract states they need to refund all payments within 10 days of cancellation, however when the 10 days passed, I called to determine why they hadn't returned my money and they stated they wouldn't because they hadn't picked up their equipment yet. I clearly read the contract details to them and they simply said, "we're not going to do that". They are extremely strict when the contract requires people to remain in contract within them, however the terms are suddenly loose when it negatively affects them. They have now finally picked up the equipment and I've yet to see the returned purchase cost. I've had to report them to my credit card company for investigation. I would be very weary of going into contract with them! read more

I have had a great experience using ADT. The customer service can use some improvement but the over all experience was great. Glad I chose them. A salesperson by the name of Amar Ward came by my house after work and offered me the system. I decided I didn't want it. After a few days I called back and asked if there were any other promotions. He "called his manager" and said he could waive the installation cost. After being installed I have only had one incident but the system worked. The police came by while I was at work. Someone tried to break in through my garage. Glad I got the service. Ask them to waive your install. read more

My wife and I have been customers with ADT since 2012. Prior to a few days ago we have NEVER had a problem with ADT and endorsed it's services to family and friends. Recently my wife called their customer service line to inquire about our contract as we were considering cancelling it because we no longer needed an alarm service. She informed the customer service representative that we would contact them in a few days regarding our contract after discussing it with me. Unbeknownst to my wife the process for a new contract was initiated and ADT locked us into a 60 month term contract against our consent. When we realized this occurred my wife contacted ADT to cancel the contract and/or renegotiate the term and was greeted by a rude and condescending female who rebutted every request and laughed at my wife while stating the 3 day right of recission had expired and we would have to pay 75% ($2000) of the contract that we never authorized or consented to. I also attempted to negotiate with customer service which was fruitless. I subsequently perused several on line reviews of similar circumstances where ADT refused to honor contract cancellations, intentionally delayed the process, and screwed over customers. Had I known that ADT was like this I would NEVER patronize this business. I have never in my life experienced a company that outright takes advantage of their patrons, exhibits dishonesty, does not care how customers are treated, and are unwilling to help. Shame on you ADT. I advise anyone who is looking for alarm service to look elsewhere. I would rate ADT a zero star if Yelp allowed it. read more

Should be a No-Star rating. Just a rip off. We cancelled our land line over two months ago and cancelled ADT a month back. Just received "regular monitoring report" email stating "The recent signals in your alarm history are strong indication that the system is communicating properly with our monitoring centers." Adding on to this horrible review of a company wo should definitely be out of business. I guess its not ADT but Defenders but the way I see it they promote ADT so they go hand and hand. If you ready PREVIOUS review you know it took me over a month to receive a credit of $459.16 for equipment I originally told them to just come get but you want to be protected bit people there are tons of other alarm companies out there so do your research. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVERYTHING! Hell I am not going to get into the fact that I was out of town and my alarm went off and it took the cops over an hour to show up but that's besides the point. After waiting for my refund for such a long time for the past two days I have been receiving calls saying I owed $405.09 and $459.12 and if I didn't pay I would be sent to collections. First off this goes to show me No one has put any notes in my account after I have called several times over that month which I'd extremely sad as I'm having to repeat this same story over and over. Wanted to downgrade my service and get rid of these cameras. Representatives were rude transferred to multiple reps, back and forth. Ended up canceling. If I could give no stars I would. I had my system updated to include Pulse. It has malfunctioned ever since it was installed. I am now on my 5th time with a repairman to repair it. Obviously, it won't be repaired. I was told that I own the equipment now and cannot get my money back even though the equipment has malfunctioned over and over since installation. Obviously the local technicians do not know how to install the equipment or the equipment is faulty. A catch 22. It's like groundhog day over and over again. Do not use the local Tacoma ADT. read more
