The attendant, Rashid, was incredibly helpful, friendly, and patient from start to finish. Truly great customer service. What really impressed me happened after I left. Rashid contacted me to let me know that an important piece was still attached to the old battery I turned in for the core charge refund. He wanted to be sure I had it, since it's something I might need. He even offered to hold it for me or leave it somewhere secure if I couldn't get back before they closed. Came in looking for some machine screws and they were absolutely no help and didn't have what I needed

1. Didn't have the bulb I needed in stock. 2. Sold me an LED version of the bulb instead, for like 5x the price, and claimed it would work fine with my car. 3. When I got home I saw that the package said "for off-road use only", so they should not have sold it to me and claimed I could use it in my car! 4. I tried it anyway and it didn't work in my car. 5. I went back to the store, had to tell the story to two different people, the second of whom made me stand there for five minutes while he typed on his computer before even listening to the story. 6. After telling the story to that person he said I would have to come back tomorrow for a refund because only the manager could authorize it and he wasn't there. I went here today to get a specific brand item to clean my car this weekend, was directed back to the shelf where it was not. Then they told me they had a big shipment out back, check back Monday, and then ignored. Not even "sorry", just who can I help next. It wasn't that crowded, about 5 people working behind the counter. CHECK BACK MONDAY, you have what I want inside the store today. Auto Zone does not carry it, so the saga continues at the Somerville store. Unpleasantly. I am fed up with this whole chain, conveniently located, but inconveniently situated on its street, hard to park, hard to get in and out of, traffic backed up hard in both directions. read more

I arrived at the store at 6:54, an hour and 6 minutes before they close (according to the sign on the door they close at 8, as well as google). The door was locked so I called. After the second call they picked up to tell me I couldn't come in, that they are closed. When I said you don't close until 8, it's 6:54, they said we are closed we have to clean. I understand in the current environment additional cleaning is needed, but on the list of COVID matters on the door new hours are not listed nor does it state that hours will change for cleaning. I was then put on hold in the middle of my sentence and left on hold for 20 minutes until I left the parking lot and gave up. So FYI this store apparently closes one hour and six minutes before they are supposed to for "cleaning." read more

I needed new wiper blades. I used the computer to get the ones I needed for my car. The guy working there, "Jonathan T.", checked the database on his computer to make sure they were right. Well how about that they were wrong. He made sure I got the right ones. And then he put them on my car for me, FOR FREE!!! If I had any cash on me I would have tipped the man. I am clueless about cars. I went in before work one day because I needed new windshield wipers (mine were essentially non-existent). The guy there asked me the kind of car, helped me pick them out and then installed them for me! So I leave and try them out but one side seems clearly too big as it was wiping well off the side of the windshield. I assumed I was given the wrong size.But I had to go to work and couldn't go back. I stopped by again after work with my receipt and there was a different guy working. So as I was telling him my story, the morning guy came out from the back and was about to go home for the day (he clearly already punched out and was ready to leave). He recognized me and said he'd take over. So I showed him the wipers and he said they were the right size but it had to do with the wiper holder thing and went back inside to get tools. Keep in mind this is my car's problem, not the wipers he sold me! He fixed it for me free of charge. He was already off the clock and spent time to fix something that wasn't even his fault! I wish I knew his name but if that isn't great service, I don't know what is! read more

pretty typical in terms of inventory and price, but the service sets this place far far apart from the pack. i don't know if they go out of their way to only hire really nice and helpful people, or if they just get lucky, or what, but if you don't have any close friends who are mechanics, this place is just as good. special props to fred cuz he's always more than willing to take a walk out to my car with me, pop the hood, and show me exactly what the issue is. even if he has to look up info in books or online so he can give good advice. i hope ownership or management is reading this because they should know that i actually spend more money at their shop because of him. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of someone (let's call him J) who went here the other day to ask about a car code reader. There was only one employee, and he was just hanging out by the door. When J went to ask to use the car code reader, the employee brushed him off and said he couldn't get it because he was the only one in the store. ??? I don't understand. J went early Sunday morning, it wasn't busy, and all he asked the guy was to use some item for a couple of minutes. I wanted to ask if they would help me install the new bulb but I didn't get that vibe from the two working there. Oh well... I was able to install it pretty quickly. This a good auto parts store. Except for the small cruddy parking lot there's not much to complain about. I come here to grab spare parts for my car ie. wiper blades, light bulbs etc. on a really cold day my battery died and I brought it here and they charged it up for free. Took my car here because the battery (which had been purchased a year and a half previously at a different AAP) kept dying and wasn't charging. The guy came out and tested my battery and explained to me that I should replace it and that it was under warranty so he could do that for me. I'm always cautious when dealing with people working on my car because they tend to try to rip me off since I clearly don't know anything about cars. I never felt this way at all when the guy was helping me. He gave good suggestions but never pressured me into buying something I didn't need. He replaced the battery for me fairly quickly and helped me get on with my day. Not overly pleasant, just nice and honest, which I really appreciated. Great experience read more

If you need a battery replaced and like to waste hundreds more dollars for no reason, then come here!!! When my battery was replaced here, the tech snapped off a piece near the positive battery terminal that was a couple of inches away when trying to pull/hammer/pry the battery terminal off. Unfortunately this piece requires replacing a larger piece that costs $$$. My mechanic discovered this 3 days later when renewing my car sticker and checking the fluids in my car before a trip. Long story short, Advance Auto Parts did not accept responsibility for breaking that piece and blamed my mechanic who noticed this when changing my sticker and checking fluids. Contacting the district manager was of no help either because she just backed her employee that he didn't do anything and it was my mechanic that broke it. I am still waiting for a response after I sent her photos days later. I will tell everyone that I know of not to shop here especially at this location. I have recently had a power steering belt rip on the way to work. I managed to get to the garage where I park my car during office hours (Cambridgeside Galleria) and called your store to find out if you have a belt for my car. Jonathan Thatcher not only found the right belt for me, but volunteered to come out to where my car was and put it on at no additional charge. I was able to drive my car home the same day. I am creating an account just to review this place. I don't usually feel the need, but this place far exceeded my expectations. I stopped in just to get a new bulb for the little light over the license plate on my car, which I had let stay broken far too long. For the life of me I couldn't even get at it to see what kind of bulb to get because it was stuck behind this awful plastic plate! I nearly broke my finger pulling on it in the cold. Without me even asking, one of the employees (Josiah?) spotted me outside and came into the windy cold in his tee-shirt with tools and helped me to get at the bulb, and eventually another came out because it was so stubborn! They must have been outside helping me for twenty minutes, all for a $4 sale, and were polite and helpful throughout. I'll be going here for all my auto-part needs, meager though they usually are. read more

Extremely helpful. Our car battery had a lot of corrosion that needed to be cleaned off, and also needed to be exchanged. We were told initially that no one would be able to assist with installing a new battery, but Jose was more than willing to help us with the entire process despite the freezing cold temps and also having to ring up customers due to being understaffed. Went to Advanced Auto for oil this afternoon during the serious heat wave. The experience was excellent, Jodi was the young lady assisting me. Jodi made sure i got the perfect synthetic oil for the right buck. She then came outside in the brutal heat and helped me funnel the oil into the engine...But that wasn't all, she then recommended an oil removing spray to remove the oil drops on the engine. I was headed to the competition having never been here, and noticed it while I was driving by. I went in for some lubricant and first and foremost they completely stopped their conversation and both gave me full attention. Let me just say, that great customer service (an area where their competition had failed) was noticeable. Furthermore, they asked what I needed it for --- and then give me a few ideas and things to check. All said and done, #1 Good experience, #2 Good price (and better price next time due to speed perks), #3 My problem was completely fixed based on their advice! THANK YOU! I can't expect them to solve all my problems, but their level of customer service and effort was huge mood booster for me to tackle my problem - it was clearly a bonus that they also solved my problem.
