I had a very poor experience with this shop. I went in for a quick state inspection, something that takes maybe fifteen minutes of a mechanics time. I arrived at 10 AM on a Saturday (they are open until 4 pm) and pretty much was refused service. I believe I dealt with the primary mechanic, who said that he had too many other commitments and that if he took me, he'd be past closing time. I understand this, but he was unapologetic. He wasn't interested in helping me at all. I really dislike running into people like this, but unfortunately, this was my case at Totten Pond Automotive. A primary rule in business is not to refuse money. What a clown! Take your business elsewhere, or you may run into a mechanic like the one at this shop who doesn't really want your business or care to have it. :) read more

When I went to Totten Pond Shell to get an inspection sticker, the inspector failed my car for "safety" reasons. The daytime running light was working fine but it was cracked. In my opinion, it's an insignificant technicality. Then, they quoted a price of $500 plus labor to replace the light. That quote sounded excessively high so I declined service. I was right. Afterwards, I found the part at Auto Zone and I replaced it myself for $210 total. When I brought my car back to Totten Pond Shell for reinspection, all of a sudden, the inspector told me the headlight wasn't aligned correctly and he'd fail it again. If there was a problem with the headlight, why wasn't it discovered during the first inspection? I felt like I was being scammed. Enough is enough, so I realigned the headlight myself, took my car to another inspection station, and it passed with flying colors. Sure, I had to pay the $35 fee again but it was well worth it to avoid dealing with Totten Pond Shell. I'll never go there again. read more

So not only do they have the most expensive gas in town, but the mechanics here are also SHADY SHEISTERS!! I took my car here on my lunch hour to get a routine oil change because the gas station sent out a promotional coupon via email to employees at my company--$29.99 for oil change, fluid top off, tire rotation and safety check. I thought to myself, seems like a good deal. Plus they offered a courtesy shuttle service back to the office so I wouldn't have to wait around for my car to be serviced.... Well, a couple hours after I dropped off my car, one of the service guys calls me at work to say that they did the oil change but not the tire rotation because that was not necessary. Everything else was fine--except for the battery. I was told that my battery was failing and I should get it replaced as soon as possible. I was given a quote of $130, but given that I've never had trouble starting my car, I immediately was suspicious and told them I'd have to think about it. The next day, I took my car in to the most honest mechanics I know at Meineke Car Center in Brighton for a second opinion and they assured me that my battery was fine. Can you believe that?? It's really shameful how low people will stoop to make a quick buck. So, lesson learned--ALWAYS get a second opinion on a repair and whatever you do, stay far, far away from Totten Pond Shell! I plan to report them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

While I would probably never go here for gas, since the prices are insane, it was the most convenient option for me as far as getting my new inspection sticker, so I decided to try them out. I mean, the state regulates the price on that, so what did I have too lose? Answer...about 35 minutes of my day. Not so significant, but if they had told me that they were still "charging up the machine" (which is the excuse I got later), I would have gone to my office & grabbed the car later in the day. My office is about a 8 minute walk from here, so I was pretty annoyed, seeing as he gave me a 15-minute estimate when I got there & didn't mention anything about a charging machine. Aside from the huge time-suck, they were all friendly and did have a 2-chair waiting area. It also appeared as though they had some return customers that they knew by name, so that's a good sign. The gas is the most expensive I've seen, but it's in a business district and right off the major highway. However, their repair service is great. The staff is always very professional, I am greeted immediately and I got my inspection done yesterday in under 20 minutes. They will also drive you to your office if it's nearby but I've never had to do that. So I recommend Totten Pond Shell for service and inspections but get your gas somewhere else. read more

I had a groupon to use these folks for a synthetic oil change and tire rotation. It was really nice to speak with someone on the phone who seemed very interested in making the process run smoothly... ie. they spoke clearly and actually took the time to talk instead of just acting like it was a hassle to deal with customers. When I showed up, the people seemed friendly and the service was pretty quick. I guess my biggest gripe comes from the Groupon I used. Since I have an "expensive" car, I figured it would be cheaper to use the groupon than the dealership. I was wrong. They charged me extra because my car used more oil and the filter was special. OK... I get that the Groupon wouldn't cover "special" cars completely. But, then they told me my tires couldn't be rotated (another part of the Groupon that was included). The treads were wearing low, so they couldn't be rotated. All perfectly friendly, but I can't help but feel it was a little bit of the slick-willy approach to car service. I got charged more for the extra oil and the special oil filter, but they didn't discount anything for not rotating my tires. Many Groupons truly do suck and the small print makes them useless sometimes. But I gave 3 stars here because Yelp says that means "A-OK" ... this place was "A-OK". The people were friendly, but I don't exactly feel like it was good service or a good value. read more

Two cars and 5 years later, I won't go anywhere else. They are as skilled repairing American made cars as well as foreign. I trust them explicitly. Ed is kind, courteous and takes time to explain everything that needs to be done. There isn't any pressure to do repairs/replacements that could possibly be done at a later date. Being given the "heads up" or recommendation that your tires will need to be replaced in the next couple of months is welcome. That's just an example. The service center here is awesome. Very very professional guys, very friendly and they offer a shuttle service - perfect. I was quoted 600+ dollars at another shop and they did it here for 300! They also looked inspected my car at the same time and offered to look into replacing a door handle I had problems with - got it fixed in the same day and for a fair price. All of this took just a few hours and I got a call back that it was all ready. I don't have anything negative to say. They did not con me or try to find any problems - they are honest people and did a great few repairs on my car. I decided to go to Totten Pond Automotive for a MA State Inspection Sticker because of the excellent reviews on google and yelp (over 4.5/5). I first went Friday afternoon (6/7/19), but was told by Ed (in a frustrated manner) that the internet was down and they wouldn't have it fixed until the end of the day. So, I came back later the next morning (6/8/19). Ed was still clearly very upset about something as his face had a big 'why the heck are you here and what do you want from me' kind of look on it (the worst thing for a potential new customer). I kindly asked for a MA State Inspection Sticker, and Ed, in a very rude way, told me "keys and registration," then leaves the office. I got my keys and registration, came back inside, and then waited for 10 minutes until he came back. He comes into the office and again says very rudely "where's your car?" I tell him "out front," he takes the keys and registration, and tells me "sit and wait." So I wait for 10 minutes, then he comes back in in an extremely rude way and asks me "who installed your left headlight?" I say honestly that the bulb was replaced several years ago (and had never been a problem). He says "it was installed incorrectly" (whatever that means) "and the light is scattered and dangerous for other drivers." He says "I should fail you technically, but will let you off to go get it fixed before you come back here" (scolding me as if he is the police). We then go inside and I say "thanks" and leave. All I can say now is that I have no idea how Ed and this business has received such excellent reviews, as I witnessed him be rude to another potential customer on Friday when their internet was down. I would not recommend Totten Pond Automotive to anyone for any service. I will be glad to go somewhere else. read more

We needed help with the taillights on my car. We replaced bulbs and that didn't do it. Thought it was probably fuses, which it was, but we couldn't figure out which ones to replace. Most Expensive Gas Station in Boston Area. In 2014 I purchased 3 Synthetic oil changes for $79.00 through Amazon.com. Used two in 2014 and had one left to use. I knew the promotional value for the 3rd oil change had expired but my initial value of $26.33 was still there. I called the Garage and they gave me the price of $76.00 for the synthetic oil change. I was willing to get it done as much as it was quite high because I work nearby. However, they refused to use my $26.33 out of $79.00. Instead they advised me to call Amazon and work out with them directly. I have several friends and family in the area. I would not go back or recommend it to anyone. Customer Service Rep at Amazon immediately refund that amount back to my credit card without going through any trouble at all. These guys really helped me out. It was a relief to find a trustworthy, patient, and fair garage. I inherited a car and barely took care of it, not knowing what it takes to maintain a vehicle. They called me a few hours later, described what they found, gave a price, and even offered to take care of it immediately so I could drive home in just a few hours. The price seemed fair and the promptness is worth every penny. On my way out, someone reminded me to get my oil changed and showed me how to change the windshield fluid. Anytime I come here for service everyone is extremely helpful and professional, especially Eddie. I usually come here for inspection stickers but more recently I had them plug a tire for me and the plug lasted for about a year. Their prices are fair and it is super convenient that you can drop your car off in the morning and get a ride to work! I just had all 4 tires replaced and Eddie called me gave me a couple of quotes to work with as far as tire recommendations and he had it done by the end of day. I had a good experience at this shop. Went in for an inspection and they determined two of my lights were out. The way my car is designed it was a labor intensive job and therefore they had to charge a good amount for labor. I didn't plan on spending so much that day going in for an inspection so I asked the main mechanic guy if they could provide any discount for first time customers and he gave me 10% off. Given he didn't have to do that I thought it was very nice, I will be back here again. read more
