This location has the oddest placement, however, it is convenient for those that live within the neighborhood and those that frequently drive along Chicago Ave. If I were not familiar with the area I would not think that there was an Advance Auto Parts in this area because it is just not fitting. The location does have its own parking space which is well enough for its customer in-and-out flow. An empty, lifeless vibe is what I felt prior to and once I entered. It is like a gas station placed out in the middle of the desert to give you an idea of its atmosphere. If it were not one customer who had the hood of his vehicle up in the parking lot I probably would have thought that this place was closed. My visit was solely to purchase a rear brake light bulb because I was pulled over by an officer for it being out, so my visit was quick. Their system was down, so the associate required me to bring in the bulb in order for them to look up the part number to better assist me. There was no enthusiasm whatsoever during our interaction; the encounter was straight to the point, but professional! Can't say enough good things about Mariano (the manager) and the way he treats customers. For example: I was going to replace my battery myself, but he jumped in to warn me that changing the battery on my Yukon Hybrid without hooking it up to a memory saver would potentially screw up my settings according to his system. He then called three different places in the area to find out who could accommodate me quickly and economically, and while doing that, also went out of his way to ensure I'd tried all the potential discount codes available if I preordered via Advanced website. The discount code he made sure I got more than covered the cost of the battery install by a tech who had a memory saver, and I still saved $$ over buying the same battery from AutoZone. I'm not down with indifferent, lazy first impressions, nor am I inclined to give them my business. But that's what I received at Carquest when I came in and inquired about the "free battery check" advertised online. :::Cut and Paste Alert:::: ""Free Installation FREE Installation with battery purchase, on most vehicles, in most locations. I walked in knowing that my 3 year old battery probably needed replacing but wanted another opinion (i'd gone elsewhere a few weeks ago where it was tested at 75% charge capacity and at 3 yrs, nearing the end in terms of battery life). I walk in, the place is empty, and this a place i'd driven by a hundred times on that stretch of Chicago Ave bc I've lived in the area for over a decade but never paid any attention. I asked if they could check my battery and reluctantly they said, sure, where is the car? Right outside. Takes tester out and checks it as we discuss their ability to do the battery swap. In short they could not do it. Meaning, they literally did not have the ability to change my battery. In their defense, the car in question does not make it easy when switching out the battery. It's in a frustrating, tedious space where the battery is located but nonetheless, it's been changed by "someone" at least on two other occasions (I can't recall where but it was done, ohhh, about THREE years ago). A side note to lend some insight to their knowledge...when he asked the year and make, I said 2007 FX 35, Infiniti. When he first looked at the battery under the hood he says, oh, looks like the original.lol Umm, the car is almost 10 YEARS old, no don't think so (car batteries are good for 3-5 years MAX. There is no way a car that's almost ten years old still has the original battery). So there you have it. No new battery. No knowledge, no interest. I've had nothing but positive experiences everytime I have been to this store. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. They will order parts without hassle. There is a guy there whom I believe is named Tom. He knows old VWs and has helped me immensely in ordering the correct parts and even given me installation tips. The only negative is that the hours are a bit limiting. They close around 6pm and I think they are closed on Sunday. read more

Just went in to replace battery on my truck. Cashier told me he had one battery in stock that fit my truck. It's a 2010. Fishy. Of course it was $194 and the most expensive battery they had. With no option but to get a battery since I needed my car for work and afraid of it dying again, I had to fork over $215 for the battery. He installed it and so far so good so that's why they get 2 stars. When I got home I looked up my make and model and it showed 5 different batteries in stock! Ranging from $70 to $194. Crooks. Buyer beware. They're trying to hit quotas or something. Never returning. read more
