I took my car in and was given a receipt saying it would be ready at 5 pm. I only asked for a diagnostic. At 5 pm- I show up to get my car and no one is there. I call the number and was told by the manager "to pick up my car in the am." I explained that is NOT an option because I have to pick up my son from daycare. The manager tells me that "your car will be back in a hour" and hung up on me. He informs me "they have a legal right to test drive my car"- but he previously told me to pick it up in the am. Where is my car? I threatened law enforcement, and at 6pm- the owner delivers my car. My car was on half tank when I dropped it off and on empty when I picked it up. I was late to daycare and the owner said " there's no issue with my car, the diagnostic showed no codes"- then why was it gone???? BAD BUSINESS! read more

Had the worst experience. My car 96k miles and started to consume to much oil. Went to check if everything is okay. And wanted to change oil and tires as well. Arseniy(one of the guys there) said that to ship tire to them will take 2 days and Saturday in the evening they will try to finish. I called Saturday, Sunday, Monday. No response. Tuesday when my friend called them Arseniy told that got to accident and right the way called me back and said that he will call me back in the evening when they will finish. Wednesday - no response. I texted that I will come in the evening and will call police if the car is not there. He called back and said okay at 5pm. In the evening I was waiting 20 more minutes after 5 on the street for Arseniy to come down. As a result: I've got my car. They did not do any work AND I found opened bottle of wine on the back sits off my car on the way home! I hope that they did not take any pieces of my car. SO DISAPPOINTED! Excellent customer service! I've an emergency with my BMW. Some plastic part of my BMW was touching the ground, and it was around 6pm. As you know, most auto repair shops are closed around 5pm and it's so hard to find one. I've called them and they asked me to come over. They have fixed my car and also fixed scratches on the car. I haven't written a review on Yelp in like years but I feel so compelled to give kudos to the guys at Advance Auto Repair. They went above and beyond repairing my vehicle twice in a roll. Dennis the manager of the shop has been very transparent about the process and timeline from the very first phone call I made and keeping me posted with updates while my car is in their shop. With parts shortages and the amount of vehicles they have in the shop they even ordered parts for me before they received final approval on my claims from the insurance to save me as much time as possible. They really look out for their customers. Everyone I talked to is so cordial. When I first dropped off my car a staff member even helped me transfer my belongs to the rental vehicle. When I picked up my vehicle it literally looked new! They cleaned up my car from inside out and even fixed scratches on the side outside of my claim coverage as a courtesy. Their attention to details is impressive. They did a perfect job repairing the damaged area and even conducted a holistic exam on the overall maintenance status of my car. Unlike the dealerships that often times want to charge a hefty fees just to conduct diagnosis and make money off unnecessary services, these guys do it out of courtesy just to save me money on future maintenance. I can't be more pleased when I get my car back from them and really glad I've found my go to bodyshop in the city. Unlike some bodyshops in the city, they are so flexible with drop ins. I came across Advance Auto only because I'd ordered tires from the Tire Rack and had to pick an installation shop. When I entered the office, I noticed all the BMW posters. The owner, Igor Stolper, told me he was a BMW certified mechanic and had worked at the dealership for several years before opening his own business. This guy really knows what he's doing, he is super polite and respectful, and honest about what needs to be done. I was a loyal customer of Phaedrus, until I discovered Advance Auto. Picture it: A Saturday night of a long holiday weekend, heading into the city, a girl in a mini cooper. Sputter, sputter, lunge shake, rattle, roll. Panic. Park it in the city. Leave for forty eight hours, because businesses are closed on Sundays and Holiday Mondays. Ride my bike. Do some yelp research. Call Igor. Says yes, bring it in. These guys are honest and know their trade. Although the location of their shop is not in the best part of town, it has its advantages. These guys are awesome! This was my 3rd visit over 2 years and I could not be happier! Last visit was for a clutch change for my Evo. Arseniy went out of his way to make sure I got the right clutch for my driving style, which I ordered on Amazon and got delivered to the shop. I got my car back very quickly, but because of late Amazon delivery, Arseniy made sure to estimate the time and let me know the car won't be ready for the weekend far ahead of time (so that I get a rental). Igor is accurate and very fair in his pricing. And I've objectively tested this: I bought an SUV on Craigslist and took it to a nearby car mechanic to have it inspected before I purchased it. The guy found a few things wrong with it and quoted me a price for repairs. After I bought the car, I took it to Igor at Advance Auto Repair. I didn't tell him about the prior inspection. He found the exact same things wrong with it and gave me a repair quote -- only it was a few hundred less than my prior quote! I was delighted. Then my car got hit by a drunk driver after I'd had it less than a year. So I bought another used SUV on Craigslist. I again had it inspected (this time by the Honda dealership). When I brought it to Igor for service, he identified exactly the same issues that the Honda dealership found, but charged me hundreds less. After these two awesome experiences, I've taken my car to Igor for all of my repairs and maintenance. He is professional, fast, and trustworthy. He never promises something he can't deliver. I trust him and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else in SF. read more

Wow, that place is awesome!!! I found them through a friend on Yelp, and I can say that I've been really really satisfied with their service and work, to say the least! Arseni is the guy who takes care of everything. He is very nice, polite and professional. I brought my car in to get my doors painted. Someone key scratched my car on both driver and passenger door. The work involved wasn't easy, but they did it perfectly. The paint matches perfectly the rest of the car. You can't even see it has ever been scratched. Arseni even gave me a ride back home because I didn't want to rent a car. Tell me about which other garage would do that??!! I ordered tires from TireRack.com to be installed at Advance auto repair. The next day after the instillation my tires were completely flat. I had to go back to them three times because the tires kept losing air every time they "fixed" it. They are unknowledgeable, unprofessional and rude. I had to pay extra for them to "fix" what they broken in the first place and even after all that I ended up re-fixing their fix at a different place that actually knows what they were doing. I was told by Tonys auto repair in San Bruno that my 03 MINI needed a new transmission, for 8 thousand dollars.When I came by to pay the $ 160 bill for their five minutes of labour the receptionist would not let me speak with the tech who diagnosed my car. If I had I would have at least found out that he never actually looked at the trans, but based his info on a two minute road test, and check engine light code. I found Igor later that day when I was attempting to get the information online that they could not provide at Tony's about MINI's, and their transmission issues.I originally called Igor, because I found out that he knows how to rebuild a MINI CVT , something that everyone else just replaces for a higher price .Even on the phone Igor was very kind, and took the time to explain what he could do, and was even able to give me a rough estimate on what a transmission rebuild may cost, and how long it could take.. When I took my MINI in I was positive that it was the tranmission, because that was what I had already been told at Tony's, so that was the info that I passed on to Igor. I was relieved when he called me the next day to tell me that while the problem was transmission related, my trans was OK, and did not need to be replaced. To make a long story short the two repairs I needed ended up being a little over $1200. Igor is a very honest person, he could have easily sold me on a trans rebuild, and I would have never known the difference, but that is clearly not his style.. This is the place to go If you drive a MINI that is no longer under warranty . Igor really does know his MINI's, and his prices are very fair. I feel that he put far more effort in to making sure that my car was diagnosed, and fixed correctly than any other place I have attempted to go to.I really admire the way this place does business.It is great to see that honest, and knowlegable auto repair really does exist. My 2002 Mini Cooper suffered an untimely end after CVT failure. The first shop I took it to quoted me $6K for a new one. Way more than the car could even be sold for at that point. Luckily, the shop sent me to Advance Auto Repair, where Igor quoted me about 1/2 that to repair it. Igor was patient while i sorted out the possibilities, for which I am grateful. In the end, I decided to sell it to a salvage yard. Igor boxed up my things from my car and set it aside until I was able to get back to retrieve it. Honest shop, honest people. I came here for a 90K service since I work around the corner & they quoted the lowest price. But I feel like they just went online to do a standardized testing. 90K is a major service, but all I got was an oil & air filter change for $285! I've gone here twice for some routine repairs and maintenance, and I find them very honest and prompt. I came here orignally because of (then) 2 positive yelp reviews and their ability to take in my car quickly. Of course, more positive reviews might change that situation since a couple of places I tried calling the first time based on yelp here were completely booked up. The woman who ran the counter at a place I used to go (Auto Motion) made the jump over here when that owner sold her business. She was on vacation the first time I visited this place, so I was surprised at how familiar she seemed on the phone when I called to come in the 2nd time. I liked the fact at Auto Motion, she seemed to enjoy the coordination efforts her job required, and it seems fitting she found a new home here. As comfortable as I should be around the auto repair world (my family has a repair shop in another town), I have been hesitant to go anywhere "new" if it wasn't necessary. I'm a chick and it's difficult to be taken seriously in these kinds of places. It sucks. Well two weeks ago, I pulled into my garage, turned off my car, and had something break and spew gallons of coolant on the garage floor. I yelped for a nearby repair shop- Advance Auto came up with some pretty good reviews, and I kept my fingers crossed as the tow truck hauled me and the 323 to 16th and bryant the next morning. As my car was coming off the truck, I looked into the shop and saw a well-kept place, parts delivery, plus a few other BMWs and busy people- all good clues that this shop had decent business. I was greeted by the mechanic (Igor, I think) who is the NICEST mechanic I've ever met. He got all of my info, we shared a couple stories, and I was off to BART. He called me over the course of the repair work, making sure I understood the diagnosis and the work and estimated all the costs (needed a new coolant reservoir, sensor, etc). Rob did amazing work on my 2013 Tesla! I was referred by a good friend of mine because Rob had experience with Tesla's. He handled the insurance claim, was prompt at returning texts, and met the due date he promised. Rob not only fixed the trunk my husband dented from backing into the garage but fixed all the other minor body work needed and repainted my dull hood so that it it shined like new. Thought I needed a starter so I went to these guys based on yelp reviews. The owner drove me to my car to see if it could be jumped. When we got there he figured out (in about ten seconds) that my battery connection was loose. Fixed it with his hands and then had me drive to the shop where he then tightened it. I did the drop ship on a set of tires from Tire Rack to this place, which ended up being super fast. I placed my order with Tire Rack on Friday, and my tires arrived Monday. It makes no sense that a one day ship on four tires can cost $40, but retailers charge $10 to ship a pair of pants UPS ground in 7-10 days. Whatever. This shop called me when my tires arrived and I let them know I'd show up at opening time the next morning. I dropped my car off at 830am, went for a bagel and coffee across the street, and came back an hour later. The car hadn't been touched yet, but they started working on it as soon as I came back. I was out by 1015 and on my way to work. Not as slow as Wheel Works where I usually get tires, but not as prompt as I'd hoped by being the first customer to show up in the morning.
