I think I forgot to ask for his name but the older gentleman gave top notch customer service and helped me with my glasses search for quite possibly 40 minutes. Johnny is a master with eyewear and was able to fix my frames after multiple places wouldn't even try. This is probably one of the cheapest place you can find for eye exam, glasses and frames. They have a lot of high end brands and you can always negotiate the price for frames. The contact exam here is $70. It is not cheaper than online but it is always good to try the frames or sunglasses on before you purchase them. read more

I found this place through a coworker and they rock. Most eye doctors rip you off with lenses These guys are very reasonable and fairly fast. I usually get my lenses within 1-2 days of dropping them off. I keep my frames (they're Versace and will be with me for a long time) but I swap out the lenses every year or 2 when my prescription changes. In the 3 years I've been going there, they have not raised their price. My lenses cost me $120 and right now they have a yelp deal. When you check in there you get an extra 20% off glasses and sunglasses(sweet!) so highly recommend. read more

These guys were supposed to get four stars. Their prices are certainly low. But always be wary when something is that low. I needed to get prescription lenses in my original Ray-Ban Wayfarers. Another store said the turn around time was one hour but their price was higher. These guys while charging less, guaranteed that it would take four days. That was fine - I was in no rush. They asked me to return four days later. I live quite far from the store. When I went to pick them up, they were not ready. Three hours wasted. Finally when they were ready a few days later and I went to pick them up, turned out that the had discontinued the tint I requested. They had used a different tint without asking me. Big NO! Had I known, I would have canceled my order and gone to the other pricier place. Lesson learned. read more

Came in for a contact lens fitting. Instead, they gave me a routine eye exam. Sounds alright, no? NO! Not only were they not equipped to dilate my pupils, they also did not sanitize the machinery before I put my face into them. Like what....? Okay, on with the actual exam. Right before I went into the room, they measured my astigmatism and the lady who did so gave an unpleasantly surprised, "whoa..." I am here to have my eyes professionally checked, not to be judged by the likes of you, you horrible person! Another huge tick off: I signed up to see Dr. Julia Kim and SPECIFICALLY Julia Kim and guess who shows up as the doctor? NOT Dr. Julia Kim. Instead, they gave me a male doctor who, after a crude, "sit down", gave me a pretty tiny set of letters to read and when I couldn't, he gave another unpleasant "whoa..." Like...why? Am I paying your bitch ass to judge me? Granted, the exam was very efficient and quick and he answered a lot of my questions. HOWEVER, that was all he did. Answer questions as if I was a professor and he was a student. No reassurances, no helpful tips...NOTHING. I left the place feeling more scared than when I went in. So my advice to those reading this, DO. NOT. GO. FOR. EYE. EXAMS. I'm sure their prescription glasses are WONDERFUL but their eye exams are horrible. Good luck. read more

There was an open time slot and I had the exam and the Rx printed with the OD signature. It was hygienic, and staff and the optometrist were both helpful. If only I can give 0 stars. This place does not know how to operate. It knows nothing about eye wear, and most importantly, the eyes. The salesman truly dissed me. They have a good selection, but not as good as the one down the block, the one on the corner of Mott St. called 88 Optical. Eyesmate Optical has no clue what glasses are, and how it fits on the face. Glasses are an alien thing to them, even though they wear glasses themselves. They know how to sell the glasses because of their smooth talking though. I got a pair of Nike flexons, and they said that a year from then, I can get them replaced, due to warranty, even though if it's not broken. Well, a year later, my mom made me come to this shit ass place to get a new one. I'm not the greedy type, but my mom is a bit, so she made me get a fresh pair. They said that it would come in a day. So the next day, I went to get it, and it turns out that I have to pay an extra $10 for the "shipping" fee. I later found out that the glasses that they said they replaced were the same ones that I gave them to replace. I know this b/c there was clearly some paint rubbing off on the right side, and this was exactly what I saw in the supposedly new pair. So basically, they freaking jipped me. If there was no warranty available, then they should have said so. But instead they just cleaned up my glasses, and pretended that it got replaced, and even took my 10 bucks. They are a bunch of f*heads. Not only that, but I realized when I went home that my glasses were crooked on my face. So I went back a week later, and guess what? The retard of a salesman tried to fix it, but couldn't, so he said that my eyes are crooked! I didn't say anything b/c I was young then, but seriously?! Are you fukcing joking me? Blaming my eyes for an easy job you cannot do?! That is just f*cked up. There is nothing wrong with my eyes. So I went to 88 Optical to get it fixed. Don't ever go to this place. They probably will jip you, and blame you and your features for a job that they screwed up on. Just walk down the block to 88 Optical. They have excellent service, and they will adjust your glasses for free, w/o any questions asked, or better yet, w/o dissing you. read more

I have been going to Eyesmate for the past five years. The staff is really kind and accommodating. I usually get contacts here twice a year (six month supply) and glasses 1-2X per year. There is also a great deal on eye exams, which are done right in the store. I have never had problems with Eyesmate, and furthermore, they have helped me out when I was really broke in-between jobs-- giving me a sample pair of lenses to wear for 2 weeks until I received my first paycheck. Even back when I was attending college out of town, the staff would personally mail my eyeglasses/contacts/etc free of charge up to the tundra of New Hampshire! GO HERE IF YOU WANT YOUR EYES RED and SWOLLEN. I really regret coming to this place. I came here yesterday looking to get daily disposable contact lenses. I told them My eyes are dry I want to get the most moist one. The young female optometrist gave me an eyes exam and she gave me a pair to try she claimed it's good for dry eyes. I put it on, paid $65 and left. Today I woke up with my eyes swollen and red like a rabbit. (Yesterday after wearing it for half day my eyes was a bit red and discomfort but I thought it's normal because I have dry eyes) I've been wearing CT many years,I never had any problems with my eyes before except dryness. I went back, the women who works there was very rude and irresponsible. She blamed everything on me. She said that it's just because my eyes are too sensitive. Then another female optometrist checked my eyes and said that I am having allergy reaction to something so she gave me a prescription. I went to CVS right a way. She gave something that my insurance don't cover and it caused almost $300. I called them back. The Cantonese women raised her voice over me and keep saying " it's your problem, your eyes are sensitive your don't want to pay $300 it's your problem not ours, Doctor is off work now.Come Friday if you want another prescription " (We were speaking in Chinese ) She was repeating and not allowing me to talk. T.T I am a very nice, reasonable and soft heart person, I don't like arguing for things that had already happened. Just want it fix and over. her attitude really made me Angry and I won't let them cheap me like this. Tomorrow I will go again and get my $65 back. I rather give it to homeless. Amazing customer service! My friend has been coming here for years & introduced me during a recent trip to NYC. Seriously, I've been wearing glasses & contacts for a long time & I've never gotten better service. Dr. Lee was incredibly patient in explaining what might be causing dryness in my eyes. I got an updated contact prescription a few months, but it never felt quite right - my regular optometrist was stumped & I've just been dealing with less than clear vision in one eye. Dr. Lee recommend another brand (monthly Cooper Vision) and just like that, vision problem solved. The owner Kitty gave me a fantastic deal on the eye exam & contacts package - along with free samples of the peroxide contact cleaning system for the monthly lenses. I've never even gotten such great care with my own regular optician of 20+ years. I'll be recommending family & friends and coming here myself anytime I'm in New York. read more
