Lo and behold, I needed contacts immediately alongside new examinations for my wife to refresh her prescription. Called Mott Street optical the day of the late morning time - the individual gentleman who talked over the phone was very accommodating, patient, and took our appointments right away. Ambiance, Inside & Vibe: The layout of the inside is extremely spacious with plenty of seating as well as separated into clusters that are clear for their purposes. Inside the lighting was very amp with clear visibility. The staff greeted me immediately, and therefore the vibe was very friendly and accommodating. Service: Dr. Law was the optometrist who did my contact eye Examination. This is by far one of the most holistic and comprehensive reviews I've ever had. I highly recommended this place 15 out of 10 purely because of Doctor Law. Quality of Service & Products: Doctor Law - first name Albert - addressed all my questions, and I'm someone who has a lot of questions really quickly - with patience, professional, professionalism, and extreme clarity | Pun intended. I genuinely wanted to support a locally owned Chinese optical business, and there were definitely some positives to my visit. They have a large selection of frames, with many styles and price points to choose from, and they seem to have enough staff to help multiple clients at the same time. The eye exam process for my daughter was quick, smooth, and professionally handled by the female optometrist, which I appreciated. However, my overall experience was disappointing due to the unprofessional behavior of one staff member, Reymond. I first visited on a Sunday around 2:30 PM and asked for help finding large frames. Reymond assisted me, but he seemed unfamiliar with the inventory--he had to ask coworkers about basic details like where a frame was made and whether larger sizes were available. I assumed he might be new, so I appreciated his effort. When I asked how long he'd worked there, he said three years, which made the lack of product knowledge surprising. Later, I returned for my daughter's 4 PM appointment. After her exam, we began selecting frames. His coworker brought out a Chanel frame as a suggestion, but we declined since this was for a 10-year-old. Eventually, we found a house brand(MB) frame for $198 that my daughter liked. At this point, Reymond, unaware that I understood Cantonese, turned to a coworker and said, "I want to die," to which she replied, "Then go die." He added something like, "I already helped them earlier." This exchange was shocking and very unprofessional, especially coming from someone helping a customer in front of a child. He then turned back and completed the transaction as if nothing had happened. This behavior completely changed the tone of the visit and made me feel disrespected. Dishonest service I had credit from a previous visit, where computer glasses and regular progressive lenses were prescribed. The computer glasses were unnecessary. However, with the regular progressive lenses, I could see my computer without any problem. I was allowed to receive credit for the unnecessary glasses, but they didn't want to give me the frames (the frames had the wrong temples.) Instead, they asked me to order the correct frames the next time that I needed a new pair of glasses. When I returned to use the credit two years later, the price of the frames increased several hundred dollars. read more

Highly disappointed in the deliberately misleading way they do business. I came here because of the reviews. That was a mistake. I gave him my prescription. The usual up sell began. I said yes to everything. Including the protective coating to avoid fog on the glasses. He tells me he can add it for a fee and it will help while I wear a mask. Go to pick up the glasses. Test for fog. Instantly, they cloud up. I explain to the salesperson that I've purchased the protective coating. He assures me that it doesn't exist and I must have misunderstood. Also the person that sold it to me was off that day. Several conversations between them in their native language. Including, some smirks while I just waiting to be told what was the extra $40 for. They never came up with an answer. They wouldn't reimburse me either although I had a receipt that said the coating was paid for. It felt uncomfortable to stand their as they all switched from English to another language to discuss the issue. And then obviously decide is just have to deal with it. I just had the WORST experience with Dr. Andrew Law, they gave a trial pair a couple of weeks ago which broke inside my eye, so I came back today after making an appointment he he comes out on a rush all shaking shouting to me I need an insurance or I need to pay for him to see me (obviously I have insurance and I don't mind to pay) he was all shaking he throw the new trials on the counter, just for me to find out they are not the right prescription and they wouldn't work. I had my brand new glasses brought in here to have a nose piece added. They managed to do the ugliest job, the nose piece was visibly VERY crooked. So they took it back to fix the shoddy work. I picked up the following week, to find it in worse condition than before their "fix" - their so called professional drilled the nose piece on one of the sides so many times that it left a huge visible ugly mark on the frame. They had claimed that they cannot protect the frame of the glasses on this kind of service, and I was aware of that warning. However, what they did not say is that the job might not get done right and that they would NOT back up any mistakes from their part if that were to happen. They also do not warn on any potential damages to the lenses. One of the BRAND NEW lenses has a deep scratch. It's now garbage and will cost me $100 to replace. They never warned about potential damages to the lenses and honestly, if their "professional" had simply put a temporary film on the lenses while working, the scratch would not have happened. They refused to provide any refund, so my losses now are huge. This is not the way to do business. They lack pride in their work and fail to take responsibility for multiple damages they have caused, leaving their customers without support...STAY AWAY! This place needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Hey guys, don't ever go to 52 Mott street Optical!! The place is a rip off , bunch of Chinese con artist. The incompetent optometrist gave me the wrong prescription and they charged me for the lenses, when I asked for refund back. They purposely tried to deceive me , by claiming that they will redo the lenses, Instead , they switched the lenses to "distance" instead of "Progress" lenses which I paid for. They got the nerd to tell me that they did a favor "free of charge". I told the idiot that my insurance covered "distance" lenses in the first place. I wanted "Progressive lenses" so I could use it to see both distance and closed up. The idiot so-called eye doctor prescribed the wrong degrees for me eyes which I have to swallow the lost by having to pay for these unusable lenses. When I told the Crooked Chinese men that the degree are incorrect and it was giving me headache and asked for refund back for the lenses. They refused. Not only they did not owned up to their mistake , they tried to keep the lenses as well as charged me. Their explanation was it was my fault and that they even did a favor by replacing with "distance lenses" as free of charged. Did they think, I am a dummy, my insurance covered that in the first place. The sad part was that , they were charged me and try to keep the lenses as well. Not only I did not get my merchandise, I paid for, but I was being charged for it as well. I was not having that. Finally the Pathetic little man, gave me back my lenses that I paid for, but are useless( that okay). But I didn't let that asshole rip me off and got off that easily. Don't ever go there!!!!!!!!! Mott Street Optical is the ONLY PLACE that always reliably stocks a good selection of LINDBERG frames. I came across Lindberg frames in Europe and was amazed by the quality, but I had a lot of trouble finding them stateside when I needed a new frame. Every few years, I trek all the way from NJ just to get my glasses at Mott St Optical (and they can custom order it for you too if they don't have it in stock or if the ear piece is too long/short). If you're not familiar with Lindberg frames, you don't know what you're missing. They are light as a feather compared to other expensive brands and are so worth the money (oh and the Queen of England wears Lindberg frames too) I've tried so many high-end luxury brand name frames (Gucci, Chanel, etc etc - they're all mass market garbage with just their names slapped on them). Lindberg are by far the best frames in terms of quality and weight on the nose. I'm blind as a bat, so the weight of the lenses and frame always gave me a headache and would leave indentations on my nose, despite paying a premium to get the lenses as thin as possible. Although Lindberg frames cost a small fortune, they are so worth every penny and I'm so happy Mott St Optical carries them always. I still have yet to find a place that carries a good selection of Lindberg frames in the NJ suburbs... so thank goodness for Mott St Optical. Oh and hi Jake! Thank you for helping me on 1/11. I found a great pair of Chanel frames at a fancy uptown optical store that didn't take insurance, so I called Mott Street Optical to see if they could place a special order and help me use my insurance benefits. They confirmed over the phone that they could get the exact frame I wanted and that I'd get about $600 in savings through insurance, so I came in for a quick and painless eye exam and placed my order. Because it was a special order, it took about three and a half weeks to be fulfilled, which was actually faster than they had promised. I was quite impressed with the service here. I called the morning of to make an appointment that evening, and they were able to fit me in. I can't remember who the doctor was that I saw (if I figure it out, I will come back with the name) but I truly appreciated his service, and the way he didn't try to upsell me on things- actually, the opposite! He definitely had my best interest in mind, I told him I had a contact exam in the summer but I needed new glasses, and I was open to doing a contact and glasses exam but he told me we could just do the glasses, which I appreciated! He was very informative during my visit. The lady who was showing me frames definitely brought out the most expensive ones first, but hey, that's fair haha. I found this optical shop online as a result of searching for an in-network optical place that carried a PARTICULAR Dior eyeglass frame. I must have gone through about 15 places before I found this place...Not only did they agree to hold the frame for me, they also saved the frame under MY name and I was able to deal with the same person I spoke to on the phone. When I arrived, they were busy, but someone still spoke to me and made sure to get the salesperson that I asked for. My glasses were ready the next day, as promised AND since I paid cash, I was able to negotiate the price for about 30 dollars less. My first experience was so positive that I have recently gone back to get another pair of glasses. Not only was Joe a great salesperson, he also helped me pick out the pair I am picking up today. Okay, let's talk about Doctor's appointments during COVID. This was my first appointment since the world shut down and I have to say, I had a great experience! The office is appointment only which can be scheduled online or via phone call. I was temperature checked when I walked in the door and given hand sanitizer immediately. Everyone was wearing masks which made me feel at ease right away. The equipment was cleaned and the exam room was pristine when I walked in. Dr. Albert Law was willing to take the time to listen and answer questions before the exam began. He took his time and was very through with his explanation for all my concerns. After the exam I was lucky enough to receive assistance from Jake Lin (such a cutie!). He showed me glasses covered under my insurance plan -which weren't my style. Jake then asked what I was looking for and went searching! He brought back several glasses (which he sanitized before and after try on) and was extremely attentive to the little details about each frame that I liked. After trying on the several frames he came back with a pair of glasses that checked all the boxes! I loved them and I said YES to the glasses! Overall a great experience.
